Ted Lilly (9-12, 3.71) vs. Rodrigo Lopez (7-15, 5.03).
COMMENTS: Like a teetering opponent on Mortal Kombat waiting to be finished, the Dodgers enter today's final game of the season eagerly anticipating their dispatch for the winter break. And while the hearty Dodger fan might be heading out to the Stadium for Fan Appreciation Day, hoping to bag one of "15,000 giveaways and special prizes" (you know, like like a Dr. Phil Prize Basket or 4 tickets to the special "Petros and Money Show" at Medieval Times), most baseball fans will want to be close to a television or reliable wireless connection to keep tabs on the Padres @ Giants game (Mat Latos vs. Jonathan Sanchez), which could decide the NL playoff teams (the other important game, Phillies @ Braves (Cole Hamels vs. Tim Hudson), should be starting right about now, funk soul brother).
So enjoy Fan Appreciation Day if you're going to the Stadium, and enjoy Scoreboard Watching if you're not. Either way, the Dodgers' 2010 season comes to a full and complete stop today. And then, feel free to exit the freefall ride.

I only go to Sizzler after watching Matlock.
nice Lord Finesse quote, by way of Fatboy Slim
Bills got their old old white helmets with the red buffalo on it today. I miss the white ones with the blue buffalo on it
Lord Finesse hates Sizzler.
as do I.
and hi, everybody.
FB sad that this is it.
Does FB smash?
Lord Finesse prefers TGI Fridays
Saw The Social Network last night. Quick review:
If you can get past the exhausting dialog in the beginning, it turns out to be a very entertaining movie. Justin Timberlake channels his inner weasel as Sean Parker. No one gets out of this with a decent reputation in tact.
If you love Facebook, this is like seeing sausage being made. Lots of twenty-somethings in the audience didn't get the humor; intended and unintended.
FB smashed last night
My daughter used to wait tables at TGIF's. She said they use the microwave a little too much.
I prefer Red Robin.
@rb why wasn't the humor received by the 20 somethings? can you give an example?
I'm a Souplantation man myself. Healthy living.
Lord Finesse is cool with Red Robin, he goes there when he's in Jersey
Red Robin....YUMMMM
sorry that stupid commercial gets stuck in my head
@MLASF why godzilla? Hoping we sign Matsui for next year?
I was posting in Japanese yesterday because the translations to English amused me.
ohh yeah I saw some of that - it was appearing as funny boxes for me :)
"I won the monkey, I have to win, Mr. F would have failed in the only! I have victory! I can only for you and I. If the monkey with a monkey."
super karate monkey death car
MLASF: Sorry about my surly factor yesterday. Feel free to post in the language of your choice. Preferrably Esperanto.
The giants v padres game also will determine if I get to wear a giants shirt to work and bring dinner to the giant fan. Go padres!!!
Epale Y'all
It's a bittersweet day as the Dodger's season ends.
On the bright side, it is an absolutely gorgeous day and both Karina and I are leading our opponents in the SoSG league. We sisters have to stick together.
Epale everyone!
@Karina,
How are you? Is Coper sufficiently blessed and any prospects for him?
Good news, we sisters are currently leading our opponents.
Furcal-SS
Carroll-2B
Ethier-RF
Kemp-CF
Loney-1B
Blake-3B
Ausmus-C
Johnson-LF
Lilly-P
How would the sisters not stick together, hypothetically speaking?
@Alex Cora I'm crossing fingers you don't have to wear a Giants shirt to work.You're gonna feel dirty, believe me. Go Padres!
@Meaniebreanie we're like sisters from lost mothers.I saw your comment about retail therapy and towering heels well, heels because to me, anything below fous inches are flats ;)
Mr. LASF
If you met my real sister you would understand.
hey there, K and MB!
Hey everybody.
Folks I'm taking one for all of us and heading out for Chavez Ravine. I'll represent SoSG well. Whatever well means to us.
*raises sad toast*
^ I mean a drink, not slightly burned bread
Hey Fred, glad you're here and the rest of the crowd. It's our last game thread and we have to make the best of it. I think I will crack a bottle of wine now in anticipation. Hopefully there will not be need for Slivovitz today.
@Karina
You don't know the sheer joy and ecstacy of having platforms and spikes back in fashion. This girl barely made it past 5 ft. I need all the boost I can get.
@Meaniebreanie I'm fine thanks. how's your weekend so far?. Coper is a star this weekend, you couldn't believe how many people asked for pictures with him, he was filmed for a local tv station, etc. Today, he walked around 6 km, he couldn't finish, but he was happy walking around with so many dogs and cats. Sadly, I just could find just one girl for him :(
Now he's laying on my bed, head on my teddy bears, so cute!
@Mr.C welcome
@DB Thanks for the sendoff from the rest of us. We have no doubt you'll make it a good one.
Bill showing some life!
^^Bills
hey DB and Mista C
have fun at the yard, DB. Get a good story for us!
Coper. HaHa
@MB the slivovitz is deep in the freezer today. I will save it for next season, or if it's the Giants and Yankees in the world series
@Karina
You will have to change your avatar with a picture of him in his shoes. Was he willing or did he hate your mom for it? My dogs would hate me forever. Only one girl? That's all it takes.
Your comments regarding the religion quiz hit me. I met my family for church/brunch this morning as I figure my twisted soul needs all the help it can get. The pastor must have gotten the memo about that quiz. He's starting a new series on Credo, what we believe and why we believe it.
FB
If the Gnats and Yankees make the series we will all be drinking it with you.
DIE DIE DIE
@Meaniebreanie I don't have a sister! my brothers do have provided me with awesome sisters in law.
Regarding heels, it's not only helpful to look taller, but how they improve posture and walking, legs and butts look better, too (I could say more but there are too many guys around and those secrets can't be spilled that easy).
There's a kitten heel trend since Spring/Summer 10 'till Fall/Winter and there are signs it could survive to next year. Just say no, it's not flattering at all, imagine if you pair kitten heels with mid calf skirts, everyone is going to look like grannies!
you are not alone, MB
i would pay a premium to watch all sports events without announcers and just the regular stadium/arena sounds
@Karina
No need to spill secrets. This girl knows exactly what you are alluding to. I'm guessing that the guys do too. We probably need to give them more credit than we actually do.
Heels and Spikes are good ;~)))
JOE BUCK IS THE BEST ANNOUNCER OF ALL-TIME
Right
I love Joe Buck. He's such a terrific broadcaster, and so objective too.
#BizarroWold
@Meaniebreanie he's a good boy. At first he walked funny but he got used to them easily. Their shoes are very practical: for example they don't bring the dirt from the streets into your bed, if you happen to allow them into your bed and sofas.
They don't have to step those hot roads but they do have a protection and believe me or not, it's more difficult for them to get fleas and alike. I think Coper has 4 years wearing shoes. My sister in law took a couple of cute pics this morning, when I have them I'm gonna change my super lame avatar.
MB is watching the Saints/Panthers game and she is depressed. Daryl Johnston used to be sooo hot. He has not aged well at all.
@Karina
I have a Siberian Husky and a German Shepherd. Neither one would tolerate or be caught dead wearing shoes. My Shepherd is a big boy weighing in at 117 lbs. I don't think they even make them big enough for him.
Atl 5-Phi 2
Go braves! Go Pods!
Werth looked horrible fielding!
The braves just need the one win, no? If They both win, I'm going to need a personal moment.
Packers D has been a nice surprise today. it helps that they're playing the Lions.
Is there any way the Giants don't get into the playoffs? Because the standings on MLB.com say that the Giants have not clinched a playoff spot yet.
Thanks MB.
A winning manager like Bobby Cox needs to retire in the post-season and the Giants can do without post-season, it's not like they go there often, right?
Sadly, there is no scenario that eliminates the Gnats today.
@Meaniebreanie that's why my mama makes Coper his shoes. She just made my sister in law's Yorkie a brand new "pair"
MB has a heel to my neck and is showing no signs of letting off.
Spank
Don't be mad. Bradford was a spare I just recently picked up cuz Big Ben is still suspended. You could have gotten him a long time ago.
SF can only be eliminated via tiebreaker.
I'm going to make sweet,sweet love to DeAngelo Williams
The Bills playing like the Bills today
*cries*
@Spank
That heel is a spike. Be careful or I might go for the jugular.
Neeeb's Mom just overtook Karina.
Just to let Dusty know, his high school compatriot Peyton Hillis just scored a touchdown.
@ MB
I'm not mad about Bradford. I'm just conflicted cause I want my Rams to do well and when they do you get all the benefits.
The time has come for me to take a good, hard look at myself in the mirror and come to grips with the fact that Kyle Orton is the best QB I have on my roster.
(!)
oh man
Neeeb's mom and Karina in the same sentence. Should I go there.
*cries more*
Guys, I have two important questions:
a) are we drinking for this last GT?
b) I got this around: tequila, tangerine Absolut, Cacique Rum, two bottles of wine: Argentinean Cabernet Merlot 2007 and Merlot 2008, what should I choose?
I could dry hump Mark Sanchez right now
Though admittedly, it would have nothing to do with his performance.
Karina
Save the tequila for when we meet. Other than that, drink what your heart desires ;~)
Drink the Merlot
I fucking hate the NFL. Can't pick a winner to save my life.
FB,
Sorry, checked out before I saw your question. Can't think of anything specific, just lots of back and forth that went over most heads.
*all cried out*
@mb
A tequila in the hand is worth two in the bush. Seize the day.
coming into today, my football teams, college, pro and fantasy are a combined 2-12 (soon to be 2-13 unless the Bills ca come back from 38-7 in 16 minutes)
MR. C - I'm still seizing from encounters of the Patron kind. A friend blew into town and we went out for a drink and capped it off with a shot. I went with her to her family's house and the caretaker who is our age was there to greet us. He asked what we had been drinking and we told him. He pulled out a bottle of Patron from the freezer. I said no because I had to drive. He said no worries, we have a room for you and my friend was egging me on. We killed what was in that bottle. It might be a while before I venture down the tequila path again.
Just wanted to drop a quick hello and thank all the SOSGers for the Dodger companionship during another season.
There was no dramatic end this time. Just a slow painful death in August. That being said after today (or when the Giants are out) we can be born again and hope Matt Kemp and Dre are the future of this organization.
See you all when we make hot stove party and don't get knoffed in the robs you dutch bags!
It's too quiet in here for me on the last day of the season. I need some chaos and disorder. I feel like starting some shit.
FUCK YOU DISH NETWORK AND FOX!
Paul and the Professor are in the tightest race. They have been slugging it out.
@MB
I'm feeling your pain. I met some folks on Friday at a bar right near my office. There were about 3 hours between when I got off work and when We were supposed to meet, so I got good and liquored up with some co-workers before the party even started.
It went downhill from there (in all the right ways)
@Mr. C
The key being in all the right ways ;~)
I think I am falling in love with Sam Bradford.
KILL KILL KILL
@MB
It was a Faustian bargain, however. The Devil had his due the next morning.
You should have left T.O. in MB
He has 26 points.
@Spank
Another bad decision. TO still has flashes of brilliance. I based my decision on the fact that he has had limited play time. I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't.
@Mr C - The devil always claims his due.
I'm about ready to jump off a building. Knowing my luck, I'd probably survive.
Almost 100 comments before first pitch! Not too shabby!
I blame football.
And booze.
Not too Shaggy? Well of course not, Weaver hasn't pitched much this season.
well said, Paul. Thank you, too, for making it fun, even though there wasn't much fun to be had :)
That's what I love about this place. We make our own fun.
Sorry MB, But I'm going to make sweet, sweet love to Sam Bradford
Clausen's in a pickle trying to make this next play. GO SAINTS!
We also make our own liquor.
@Spank
In this instance I will share. Don't expect it all the time.
@MLASF
Wait…what?
Lord have mercy!
Jack Wagner with the natl anthem. Interesting touch.
I'm characteristically weepy at the prospect that this is the last game. In Spankspeak:
Boooooooooooooooooo!!!!
Make our own liquor, you say... I wonder if we could have our own self-sufficient commune. What else do we have in the group? Anybody here a doctor or nurse? Any carpentry skills? I could provide food from my dad's farm. What else would we need?
@FB I'm no Giada or Rachel Ray but I can find my way in a kitchen. You will have to limit my consumption cuz after a few you might not know what you will get.
@Mr C - Is that just me?
@FB
I can handle the shelter part of the equation, but I will consume far more than my share of the white lightning, so it's a trade-off.
(revised for incomprehensible grammar)
Jack Wagner? Seems to be 80's week on the SOSG
@MLASF
Someone's got to do it.
No merlot, pls Karina.
I'll have one of those natural drafts from your neck of the woods though.
In the meantime, supporting the divorce w An expensive stadium beer.
The 80's were good, especially the music. I'm more New Order than Joy Division.
Got the radio on and listening to Vinny one last time.
(cries)
Atlanta trying to give it back.
I really hated New Order because my sister burned them out back when we were in high school. Depeche Mode too. And don't get me started with the Cure.
Those bands bring back memories of very happy times.
Well, if we can grow our own vegetables, I can take care of the salads and since I'm my mom's daughter, I'll make sure everyone eats them :)
I wonder why Mr C "will consume far more than my share of the white lightning". I could help you there, Mr C
I came late to the emo party, so I didn't get burnt out to quite the same extent. I still like a little Robert Smith from time to time.
@karina
My reputation as a lush is well known. The key is to drink it AFTER you lay out the walls of the buildings.
Thanks Rhianna
Scoreless through 1 in SF, latos shaky
We score, we make party!
I will laugh my ass off if the Eagles lose, just because I'm tired of hearing about the McNabb bowl.
Runs!
What McNabbery is this?
So Spank, you like Joy Division and not like New Order.
You also do not like Depeche Mode or The Cure (!!!!!!!!!)
They all belong to my top 10 bands, I think.
In my defense, I'm sort of young to love those bands so much, to me Robert Smith is even a fashion icon! ;)
I cover all genre's. 80's Iron Maiden,Rush and The Beatles are interchangeable top 3
Why did I stop scoring?
Hello Everyone!!
Kind of feels like the last day of school.
@Karina--I'm looking forward to seeing Coper in his shoes
Sending shoutout to Mrs Dusty on our 12th anniversary. Thx for celebrating with me at Chavez Ravine, as usual!
Congrats, La familia de Baker!
awesome, Bradley!
Congrats, Bakers!
@ Karen
It does.
Cheers to the Dusty's
howdy, karen!
12 years of wedded bliss--Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Dusty
Atlanta holds up their end of the bargain.
Go Pads!
*vomits*
did Fernando have a bottle of white-out at his desk?
Congrats, Mrs Dusty and Dusty!
may be many more years of bliss!
Congrats to DB and the Missus. May you have many more happy years.
@Karen - welcome
@Spank - wonder why I have stopped scoring too.
Vin sounds like he'd rather be calling the SD-SF game
@MrC--"Go Pods"...it does leave a bad taste doesn't it
@Mr C I don't get the "lush" part :(
he is calling that game!
Vin and Nancy Bea are the smartest people in the stadium
I went for the Cabernet Merlot. I wish someone else is drinking too, because I'm gonna feel like an alcoholic.
@ MB
Colts are not doing anything and those are my receivers. BTW I left a little something for you in the box score chat.
Giant broadcasters are such homers
@Karina
Not to worry. Is anyone on the thread ever sober?
@karina, this doesn't count but can I join you with a black cherry soda?
My Gameday and Safari weren't working, when I started drinking, they fixed themselves :)
damn Giants
Evil ones score 1 run B3
@Spank @Meaniebreanie that chat of yours is so endearing...I want to be the flower girl, if you reach that point ;)
Sure, Fred's Brim! thanks!
@karina
White lightning is southern slang for home-made liquor, and a lush is one who drinks a lot, but isn't quite considered an alcoholic.
You need not even ask if anyone else is drinking, I'm right there with you. (beer only, to placate my poor liver)
damn Latos, get another T
It's almost time for Vin to sign off on the radio. This sucks.
@Karina
Flower girl? Heck no. If it were to ever lead to that you would be my matron of honor.
Having one divorce under my belt I am not going to go through another. If a commitment is ever made the only way out is in a body bag.
Bison is on fire, go King James!
Wow another HR from Kemp. Too bad it doesn't matter.
Am I the only one who is thinking Yeah Matt, NOW you start hitting??
@Karen
No. No you are not.
what the hell was that? that landed 5 feet to Johnson's left
I need typing skillz
@Karen
I dated one for 2 years and another 7 years post divorce. I finally feel that I'm at a point in life that if I met the right one I would take the plunge. It's taken a very long time to get there.
Why couldn't Matty play this way when it really counted?
How did Spank sneak up within 3 points of me? This is unacceptable.
Starting our season with Vicente Padilla, finishing it with Ted Lilly. Our starting pitching has been the only reasonable part of our team this year, but I really don't like depending on guys like that. I really hope we try to get better in that area
I'm a sneaker not a creeper
hehe
I have the Dodger game on the TV, the Padre game on the iPhone, and a heaping plate of Dodger Stadiumesque nachos in front of me.
Tragically, I am beerless.
@MB--Sounds like if you got there then maybe there's hope for me. I dated one 3 years and one 4 years post divorce and the the thought of marriage still scares the holy crap out of me. Right now, my dogs are my family.
@karina how's the merlot going down? my cherry soda is almost gone
I bet BenJahrvus -Whatever is the deciding player in our game MB
i get so fucking ANGRY when people even mention Pat Burrell's name
@Karen
Time is your friend.
Seems like the Padres rode the Mat Latos train about five stations too far.
@Fred's Brim this cabernet merlot is good to my untrained taste.It's surprising because I like Chilean wine way better than the Argentinean wine.
@Josh I'll drink for you too
BenJahrvus - isn't that the tallest mountain in Britain?
Anyone notice how i am all quiet about this Marriage/Divorce chat.
@Meaniebreanie @karen you guys are my heroes, how can you start dating after a broken heart?
@Josh--Yeah, what was up with that? He was shaky from the start and Stupid Bud Black stayed with him.
@Spank
That's BenJarvus Green-Ellis to you. He was the best RB of the slim pickins available. I know nothing about him but hope he does me proud ;~)
No one got my Slim Pickens homage.
The actor.Get it.
It had to be Parra with the RBI, I hope he does the same a lot with Aguilas this winter
what in the wild, wild world of sports is a-goin on here?!
@Karina
They say the way to get over a man is to get under one. Just kidding. If you've got a broken heart you have to give it time to heal. Otherwise you just carry the baggage with you when you meet the next one. I didn't have that problem when I divorced. The love was long gone. The 7 yr relationship was a different story. That took time.
@nicj
Gates is an effing beast.
Hey Pods, you can do much better than that!
@Meaniebreanie thanks for the advice!
I want Smonk to be my best man.
@Meaniebreanie "They say the way to get over a man is to get under one" hahahahahahahahahaha, I'd really wish you were my sister :)
Though I won't try that mock advice, but it is very funny
@Karina and Karen
We are sisters from other mother's.
*Going for a glass of wine to offer a salute.
I'm right behind you MB. HaHa
What is wrong with Tim Hightower and Santana Moss today?
(cries)
@MB and Karina
I'm offering up a salute with my diet Pepsi!
Sorry MB.
*blows internet kiss
