Jeff Weaver (0-0, 0.00) vs. Max Scherzer (0-2, 3.48).
COMMENTS: Look out, 1911 Tigers! The 2009 Dodgers go for a major league-tying record of 12 consecutive home victories tonight. And all without their Opening Day starter Hiroki Kuroda, who's still weeks away.
The Diamondbacks send Wunderkind Max Scherzer and his 8.71 K/9 rate against old friend Weaver, who earned this start based on his four scoreless innings against the Padres last Thursday.
A win tonight would give the Dodgers series sweeps against all four of their division rivals (if you can call a two-game series a sweep. Hey, why not?). Tomorrow the Dodgers leave the comfort of their NL West nest for only their fourth inter-division game...against the 7-17 Nationals.
Life is good. Enjoy it while you can.

No change from last night. I therefore expect back-to-back jacks in the first inning from Manny and Andre.
And a triple play in the second inning.
+- 2 hours and 20 mins!
I'm scairt of the Weaver...
Jeff Weaver = 2009's Chan-Ho Park
At least I am hoping.
that's not setting the benchmark too high.
Weaver, eh? Eh.
he was rocked in every spring training game, i know that was the spring but its the only sample i have o him hitting off major league hitters.
Lets just say i'll beWeave it when i see it.
I can't watch here in Vegas when it's on KCAL (only prime ticket)and they have the blackout going on MLBTV sooooo I guess I'm relegated to audio.
have fun everybody...
only 75 pitches for weaver tonight, hope that gets him to the 5th at least,
Weaver, then who? Do they have somebody in mind for the 5th through the 7th? McDonald maybe?
Im guessing tonight it's McDonalds.
I'm Lovin' It.
I miss my cigarcow foil.
Nic j, have you always been a pun lover or is it the influence of the writers of this site?
hmm, nervous about Weaver and the streak...
not a bad arm rick garcia.
I hate that KCAL means no Vin Scully and I am stuck with the Arizona homers. They are awful...still pimping that triple play for what it is worth.
well, one of my favorite shows is MASH, so that should tell you.
Hi karina!!
lets hope the offense and defense is on tonight.
start warming up that pen
Why do I already feel depressed?
One thing you can say about the Weaver Brothers. They can really fool a batter.
Gameday says Weaver is getting squeezed by the ump.
K
Knock on wood. Gameday suggests Weaver is sharp tonight.
impressive
andres off tonight
Is Ethier asleep out there?
Ethier looks sloppy.
Let's take this game by pitch after pitch...sort of twelve steps...
were gonna need good fielding tonight.
Weaver looks good. Ethier gave up that double to Ojeda, and nearly a run if it weren't for the O-Dog
i think ethier was playing for the lakers last night.
Weaver actually looked pretty good after giving up the leadoff double.
Sherzer is a young stud. Lets see if the offense can jump on him early.
i hope Scherzer doesnt tear us up again.
not a great start
yay o dog.
Hi Nic j!
Epale everyone!
i switched channels, and now I see the O-Dog on second.
O dogg hit a double at the very first pitch, Manny is up!
IBB to Manny
Ethier looks much better at bat than in the field. 1-0.
manny at third thanks to the bad throw.
ill take it.
That was the perfect way to make up for the top half of the inning, Andre.
No pictures, please.
Good play by Loney to drive in the run.
RBI loney, could of waited for a better pitch but good still.
Fingers crossed Martin can do something.
I could get used to this brand new Dodger baseball, how about you?
Dodgers up by one.
This is pretty exciting.
haha, score alot of runs and hope the pitching holds on karina? its fun to watch at the very least.
lucked out on that one martin.
everything is going our way!!
Whew, a close one. Error.
We'll take it!
E-6 to Wilson.
wow martin needs to buy a lotto ticket today.
Martin goes to third
Wow. What an inning.
This is fun to watch
aw, Kemp grounds out. 3-0 Dodgers
damn kemp.
nice inning though
3-0. Good start.
Looks like we'll be threading till late again. Erin - might want to nap.
I'm thinking about a mid-game nap, Delino. I'm listening to the radio broadcast on the computer, so there's always a chance I'll doze off briefly. But I'll still be here.
man, the cavs are just going to skip to the finals.
Oh well, i meant the hitting part of the equation, pitching has worried me for months. Besides, with Weaver on the mound, we need all the possible offense.
Dodgers = a Hitter's Park. Unless you suck like all our opponents.
Sheesh nic, you know baseball is a game of failure correct?
I love the way the D-Backs' website titles yesterday's game. "Triple-play not enough for D-Backs." Because you could also use some hitting and pitching to go with it.
I love first inning runs!
Upton is the new Alou
i would of liked the run parade to keep going, i have a feeling Max is gonna lock down.
K!
Apparently 0-fer's up.
Not be confused with 30 Rock's Two-Fer.
Boy, Weaver looks really good. That or the D-Backs are really bad. I'd believe both.
K again! Go Weaver!
Random thought inspired by that last at bat - Can we start a petition to change the term choking to "Andruwing"
I wonder how many strikeouts the D-Backs would have if I were pitching.
Andruwing really doesn't roll off the tongue. How 'bout Browning?
Does anyone in LA who has been to games understand why every field level seat is empty? It seems particularly empty.
probably not too much difference erin.
rumor is you have mean knuckleball.
Glad Weaver's haircut didn't have Samson-like results
its a weekday, and there are lots of things to do in LA.
It might fill up more later.
I like Weaver's side-arm delivery. He's got a Fuentes-thing going.
Reason it's empty - Front-running Laker fans think the Lakers are on.
I said it.
Hey, this isn't Philly.
haha, the lakers have been in front all season.
i think its the front running cavs fans, who knew LA had so many Ohio transplants.
pitcher gets a hit
cheapie single
Weaver's got some trouble.
Blown DP.
did that even bounce or was it low?
It bounced
alright weaver is starting to scare me.
That 1-2 pitch looked like a strike on Gameday.
Whew, Weaver got out of the jam.
Not quite, Mr. LA.
weaver is changing his arm angle on almost every pitch, its shrinking his strike zone.
aw nuts, WP
One run would be cheap here.
Erin, you are relentless.
man, weaver is not giving an inch on the inside of the plate.
Good job, Weaver.
52 pitches through three. We'll see if he can get through five.
Whew, Weaver got out of the jam that time. One run is alright.
i guess it worked though.
weaver has a limit of 75 tonight because he's not stretched out, so i doubt it.
It'd be interesting to see a Weaver-McDonald tandem.
that was a pretty low strike,
Weaver at 52 pitches.
max is talking to himself.
His tribute to Fidyrich.
Why do we score only in the first?
Daniel Cabrera pitches for the Nationals now? That should be interesting to watch. The Dodgers should be patient with that guy.
i havent seen him manicuring the dirt yet, maybe thats the next inning.
Bang-bang play from Weaver to Loney!
another double.
Lucked out there. That could have been a triple if it stayed on the field.
Weaver's gonna hit his limit.
Cavs destroyed the Hawks tonight. This could be LeBron's year.
the nba sure hopes so.
Weaver on the tightrope...
outside of the top three teams the east is pretty weak, the hawks are good at home.
What first-round draft pick?
wow, the defense saves weavers ass once again.
Steiner just had a heart attack over that catch by Hudson. Damn you MLB.tv for making me wait for the Gameday highlight!
we will get it back when o dog leaves after this season.
Weaver at 64 pitches. One more inning for him.
theres doug with his shoulder sling, what a trooper.
O-Dog makes up for that poor throw with that amazing play
second broken bat, russ is still trying to pull the ball.
Steiner says the Dodgers are 13-0 when they score in the first inning this season.
beer and skittles?
That can't be right. I thought the Dodgers scored in the first against the 'Stros and then lost.
Vin said "beer & Skittles."
see the stadium has filled out a bit.
beer & Skittles = fun & games
Man. Scherzer isn't just a flamethrower. He has some nastiness and also pitches to poor contact.
haha, nice casey.
whoops Upton
"a glove full of empty": another Vin-ism
Yeah, I thought it sounded weird. You're right, Mr. LA. No idea what Steiner is talking about. He said if they score in the first inning, they're 13-0, but if they're first to score, they're 16-3.
scherzer doesnt have a great pickoff mov, he just lobs it over there,
Nic - You have to pull that ball inside. It came in on Martin's hands and I think he was trying to foul it off. Think Mariano Rivera to a LHB.
Weaver with a knock.
Good job Weaver to help the cause
Alireza -i was just stating the martins main objective at the plate is to pull it no matter where the pitch, check his spray chart. He is too good of a hitter to limit himself to one side of the field.
Weaver still looks good.
What is going on out in right field?
Ouch, the O-Dog shouldn't have gone for that.
they both had it.
has Weaver always pitched from the stretch with nobody on?
Hudson owes Ethier dinner.
Like Vinny said, that was Ethier's country. He doesn't even deserve the error.
E-9? the scorekeeper must of wanted a photo.
So, I just checked, and Steiner was just plain wrong about that 13-0 thing. The Dodgers have in fact scored in the first inning in thirteen games this season, but they lost two of those games.
They scored once in the first on April 15 and lost to the Giants. They scored three times in the first in Houston on April 21, and lost that one.
Ganeday is so slow that is almost killing me, if it wasn't for your comments...
Manny playing basket-ball!
a ball to left always scares me a bit.
i think vin knows something.
Nice basket job by Manny.
Terrible E call by the scorer.
Damn it. Don't pull Weaver. If you didn't pull him for Tracy, you don't for Reynolds.
It scarier when Slappy starts, at least Manny doesn't have a noodle arm.
Nice research, Erin. Guess Charley doesn't have internet.
meh, manny is more prone to dropping balls. JP can catch at least.
Wow, Weaver pulls it out.
way to finish, Jeff!
Even the best of them get it wrong occasionally. Weaver K's Reynolds, solid five innings for him.
but then you give up sacrifice runs.
Weaver was nasty tonight. Probably his best work since 2006.
i think we found our chan ho park replacement.
was Tron-Tron up to pitch in the 6th or to get Jeff out of that jam?
am i the only one who hated chan ho park?
probably
why did you hate him?
By the way, props to Weaver, he made a great start and nobody believed in him.
really, he was good in the start of the season, but tapered way off after the all star break.
not his whole run with the dodgers, just the second one.
That was fast, 3 dodgers down quickly in 7 or 8 pitches.
Tron in.
We can't give the snakes an 8-pitch inning from our 2-3-4 batters in the lineup. Come on, boys.
Troncoso is a nice change in style.
Which rare feat would I want to witness live? Triple Play, Cycle, or Inside-The-Park-HR?
I definitely have seen the first two, this season in fact. I think I've seen them all, but will have to go back to the record books to check.
"Oh, what a great pitch"--Vin, as TronTron Ks Montero.
I'd rather see the cycle. That goes down in history.
Troncoso has decided to go Bugs Bunny.
As for hating Park's second run (last year) why? He resurected his career and was great for the Dodgers.
i like Tron's fastball that tails back over the plate
the wave while we are pitching? really?
Stop doing the wave.
yeah, in the first part of the season, the second part he was terrible, and look at him now. Well i like him now because he is losing games for the Phillies.
Furcal lucky to dodge an error there.
Crap Raffy. Didn't we just see that same error by Wilson last night? (Except this time they're giving Raffy a pass--it's a hit.)
damn - we make great, run-saving plays and then we can't make the normal plays
I hate the wave.
Yeah, yesterday they did the wave too during one of our rallies and it was really f'ng annoying. I think we scored, or got a good hit, and it shut everyone up.
I never stand for the wave anymore.
Martin did not throw that ball in the zip code of second base.
Let's play GET TO KNOW YOUR COMMENTER!
So Fred, are you local? Been to any games this year yet?
I was at a game where people were doing the wave in extra innings. While the Dodgers were up.
Nicely done, Troncoso.
Snakes, 0-for-10 with RISP
good inning, Tron. having to get four outs now makes getting three next inning seem that much easier
200
MLASF with the scoop!
