Eric Stults (4-1, 3.82) vs. Jorge De La Rosa (0-4, 4.27).
COMMENTS: Yeah, losing a series to the Angels at home isn't a fun way to start the Memorial Day weekend. But look on the bright side: the Dodgers still have the best record in the majors at 30-15; we have a cavernous 7.5 game lead over the second-place Giants Padres (the NL Central, by comparison, separates first from worst by a total of only 7 games); and we have an otherworldly +70 run differential (the next-best team in the majors, Toronto, has +40).
The Dodgers finished up the homestand 4-2 (including a sweep of the Mets) and are 9-7 since Manny Ramirez' suspension. As we take our show on the road for the first of a seven-game swing, we hand the ball to Stults, he of jammed thumb; the Dodgers are 6-1 when he starts. Meanwhile, De La Rosa is coming off a pounding that Atlanta gave him Wednesday before he gave a water cooler the same treatment (check the 1:18 mark of the video). Let's set De La Rosa up for round 2 versus the Gatorade jug today, shall we?

I was expecting a more Zambrano-like treatment of the water cooler. Someone needs to give this guy some lessons on how to take out his aggression on the water cooler. Maybe Zambranco and de la Rosa will make the All-Star team together.
What did the Gatorade jug ever do to him? It looks like he's playing the bongo drums.
Yesterday was a terrible day for Chad Billingsley. After the offense gave him a 4 run lead, I thought he would cruise through the rest of the game.
Next time he should take the Kevin Brown approach: punch a wall!
I like the uplifting game thread message today. I was pissed at the team for the Angels series but now I feel ready to move on and look at the bright side of life
Mr LA SF, thanks--corrected
It will be nice not having to play against Torii Hunter in the outfield. It seemed like he was singlehandedly (gloved-ly?) stopping us all series long.
Steve Sax - Agreed. That Torrii Hunter guy was a pain in the butt. It's gonna be nice to play the NL West again.
Last homestand ended in a similar fashion, only for us to go on the road and take a series from the Phils and the Phish.
Losing a home series to the Giants was far more annoying than losing one to the Angels.
Cabell: great avatar. I was at that game and remember saying to my friend "did chan ho actually just karate kick him? Did that really just happen?". I was laughing so hard after that.
Pierre, LF
Furcal, SS
Hudson, 2B
Blake, 3B

Loney, 1B

Ethier sits again? Is the foot sti;ll bothering him, or is it the lack of hits?
Dodgers wearing red hats today.
Ach! Es regnet!(Rain delay.)
I woke up from my nap for this?
Nothing doing in the first inning.
Crap
Stults is having some trouble.
These red hats look ridiculous.
This is an awful lot of pitches for Stults, who can't seem to get his pitches down. Maybe it's the altitude?
All four of those pitches were high.
Come on, Stults. Get it together. Our bullpen has already been burned the last six games.
When I turned on the tv, I thought the Angels were pitching. These red hats look so discordant with the Dodgers' colors!
Atkins ropes it but flies to Kemp, leaving the bases loaded. Stults got away cheaply enough. Lucky.
Okay, I'm going to nap. I'm tired after that marathon this morning.
That was a bad at-bat for Kemp
Loney steals second after singling.
Castro strands Loney at third to end the inning.
I feel so alone.
Just woke up from my nap.
Alex Cora - Thanks for the kudos on my avatar. I thought Dodger Chan Ho Park karate kicking Angel Tim Belcher was appropriate for the freeway series.
Lazy day.
Apodaca
BACK TO BACK TO BACK HITS.
1-0 Dodgers.
Apodaca!
1. Vin made me guilty about enjoying my Memorial Day off... which consisted of watching Godfather Part II, playing with DeBaby DeShields, eating leftover meat, and playing catch with DeDog.
2. Tulowitzki was more "tool" in that play than "key"
3. GO RED!
Jump on this De La Rosa now.
Another base hit
bases loaded. no outs.
Delino -I love Godfather II. Enjoy you're day off.
Rancho Ardiendo! sorry, but i'm at work...
Hoffmann with a sac-fly.
2-0 Dodgers.
2-0 Dodgers
2-0. But that's not enough in Colorado. KEep em coming.
Squeeze attempt!
They're gonna try a squeeze
Damn Castro messed up the squeeze.
The 17th single (unofficial) of the inning plates another run. 3-0
I'm ready to see some crushed gatorade dispensers.
De La Rosa looks like he lost it.
"Took care of me? You're my baby brother. I'm smart. Not dumb like everyone says. I'm smart. And I want RESPECT" Fredo Corleone, RIP
70th ball of the inning (also unofficial stats)
When the wheels come off, they come off fast. Apodaca.
I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse."
-Don Corleone
Love that little pause before the fling of the bat. DeLa Rosa is gonna be DeLa VISTA!
"You broke my heart, Fredo."
Rancho Ardiendo again!
(Followed by kiss on the lips)
"If history has proven anything... it's that any man can be killed."
If anyone quotes Godfather III, you're outta here!
Come home Shane.
Delarosa looks like he needs a trip to the analrapist.
Try tobias fünke.
BEAST MODE!
JP, with a big-time bases-clearing triple!!!
PierreWood strikes again
Juan Pierre coming through!
BEASTLY TRIPLE!!!
Wow, that was a sweet hit on which to wake up!
Now, back to sleep.
Nic J - LOL!
Water coolers instantly go on the "protected species" list
Adios, De La Rosa.
"I don't feel I have to wipe everybody out, Tom. Just my enemies"
Michael Corleone
"My father? I'll give you one hint. He's Italian" (and with that, I'm outta here)
"Never, ever, go against the family."
Nic J - hilarious.
Delino - Why?
The Beast doesn't stop to amaze me.
"When they come, they'll come at what you love."
Russell, add to the hit parade.
Frank McCourt couldn't have gotten luckier with the weather here in LA today for the marathon. Moving the race from March to Memorial Day seemed questionable, but this morning's overcast skies were perfect weather for a race.
What's up Delino? Long time, no see.
I think Frank said the marathon is moving back to March next year.
Trapped ball. Pierre scores.
7-0 Dodgers
Wait, that wasn't a shoestring catch, Vin! Okay, you corrected yourself. Martin with a RBI.
Still one out...
The hit parade continues. Thank you Rockies' pitching staff
PC, re: the marathon moving back to March--might you have a link for that quote?
De la Rosa - 3.1 innings, 7 runs, 7 hits, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts, 3 severely damaged coolers.
7-0 is nice...but no lead is safe in Coors Field...
Steve Sax - He said it in yesterday's pregame interview on FSN.
Mr LA SF, nice comment on the coolers.
Reminds me of the Dodgers' own Carlos Perez, back in the day.
Wow, Torrealba's throw to try and get Martin was about as bad as Martin's throws to try and get basestealers.
PC, thanks. Only 10 months to get back in shape, then!
Martin was almost picked off.
Steve Sax - did you complete the marathon?
I don't know how I feel about that "Marathon Challenge," either (in which the women start ~16 minutes before the men, and the first person to finish the race wins extra coin.
On the one hand, it's exciting (the lead man overtook the lead woman at mile 23). On the other hand, it seems kind of sexist, doesn't it?
PC, in all honesty: I completed watching the marathon.
PC, but, again in honestly, Ms. Sax and I did the Acura Bike Tour early this morning at 5am.
It was awesome. Super-fun, great to do the empty streets of LA on bike, and a wonderful time.
If Rex Hudler was watching this at-bat, he would be going insane.
Steve Sax - At least you ran. Thats awsome.
9 pitch at bat for O-Dawg.
Not exactly sure why Martin was stealing third, leading 7-0 with a 3-2 count on Hudson and one out...
Jeez, I can't ride my bike to the McDonalds down the street, and Sax is riding his for 5 miles.
PC--thanks for the kind words, but I didn't run. I biked.
Much, much easier.
11 pitches. It gets better.
Congrats Steve! that's awesome
Mr LA SF--23 miles, baby!
Going for the jugular.
Thanks Sax, that makes me feel even worse.
Steve Sax - Still impressive.
He took 12 pitches, well done!
Though I have to confess, when I passed a Jack in the Box along the way, I had a strange urge to get some Mini Sirloin Burgers.
Anyway, it's a lot easier to bike the streets when they're roped off to motorists and there are cops every two blocks or so.
Wow, Casey just missed taking that one out...
7-0 Dodgers, mid-fourth.
Flashbacks of Torii Hunter!
Missed it by a facial hair.
Damn that Dexter Fowler and his Torii Hunter-impression.
Gameday shows Blake's fly ball as being caught at the wall.
Was it almost out, or just at the track?
Sorry, got my answer.
Vin is easily distracted by babies.
395 ft double
Crap, I think Pierre could have gotten that one.
Let's not give it all back stults.
Anyone notice that vin keeps calling first pitch strikes, balls. To be fair it does sound like the ump is saying ball while making the strike motion.
SAN DIEGO Losing.
5-1 Arizona
Stults lets 'em get on the board, 7-1 with Hawpe plated.
347 ft double by Barmes.
7-1 Dodgers
No lead is safe.
Stults has only 71 pitches. Come on, dude.
Second-place SD is losing 5-1, with the Snakes threatening in the fifth.
The Giants are up 1-0 on the Braves in the bottom of the fifth, though.
Wow, Martin gets his man stealing third!
wHY would they try to steal 3B, down by 6?
Nice throw by Russ
Padres streak threatened.
These red hats remind me of Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst.
Man, Loney is locked in at Coors field. Third single of the day.
King James is 3-3 today. Nice.
Another hit for Castro
Castro singles. First and third with two outs for Stults.
Stults strikes out.
7 run lead and you can't get the win. Sad.
Rancho Ardiendo because of walks, this is worrisome.
Okay, here comes the double play.
95-pitch outing for stults...
sac to loney, `7-2 dodgers
I knew I hated weaver for a reason.
well done weaver.
7-4 Dodgers, man on second, two out in the fifth
And that's why you don't leave the bases loaded in coors field.
(arm falls off)
Stults had nothing today.
7-5 but they'll win this game, even in Coors Field.
Weaver just blue himself.
Some runs to pad this lead would be nice.
Don't worry guys our bullpen will hold the lead. They have been awesome lately.
(denial)
I go down to the pool, the Dodgers have a 6 run lead. Come back up, its a 2 run lead.
WTF?
Damn, 1-2-3 inning.
Haven't you ever heard the old saying PC. never go swimming on a 6 run lead.
Alright I can't watch this anymore.
Throw a freaking strike already, Weaver. How hard is it?
This is really getting ugly.
LOL Nic J
Damn you WillohMan!
i hope we pull this one out, the pitching matchups for the next two are not great for us, Milton tomorrow is an L, and who knows what clayton is gonna give us.
I love the optimism Nic.
Youre right though, Clayton in Denver is a scary thought.
the walk to Stewart was most likely unintentionally intentional.
milton anywhere is scary.
Boy, talk about a delayed call.
wow, that called strike had so much delay it could be in a U2 song.
i had time to go get a beer and come back before the ump finally called strike three.
The Dodgers need to score some insurance runs
Kemp had to make sure there wasn't another delayed call.
haha kemp. waiting for that delayed call,
Nic j, that U2 comment was clutch
Epale, all! We need some Geico!
i was wondering if anyone would get it.
thanks karina.
Apodaca
Do the people at Coors know there is a game going on, or is the wave too preocupying?
SD 7, ARI 7, bot 9
Hawpe misses the catch! Kemp scores!
Hoffo is boffo with his second RBI today! 8-6 Dodgers!
does jamie just do that on purpose? that the second time he has got a double like that.
Castro with a two-RBI blastro! 10-6 Dodgers!
Two-run single for Castro! It's 10-6 Dodgers!
wow, its all happening so fast.
The lead is a little more comfortable now.
Ethier is good-naturedly giving Hoffmann a hard time in the dugout, "as if to say, 'You're taking my job, kid!' " (Vin).
looks like the pitching staff on both teams is buying dinner tonight.
Wow: SF 8, ATL 2, top 8.
We have 13 pitchers and Ohman is batting. No lead is safe.
awesome camera work and commentary to show that ethier/hoffmann interaction.
Good bunt.
ohmans staying in? well i guess the bullpen is a little thin after yesterday.
who is going to hit a HR first? martin, pierre, or the pitchers spot?
Hoffman and Castro are en fuego.
Pierre, too.
Martin gets a cheapie RBI single!!!
11-6! Exhale.
lucked out on that one.
Martin's speed helps him out there.
11-6 Dodgers
I'll take my son's RBI single.
dont look now, its dinger again.
A wild pitch moves the runners up.
Nic j, i've been listening to No Line on the horizon, Pop and Acthung Baby a lot lately.
The Rockies are playing like the Mets! 13-6 Dodgers!
O-Dog with 2 more RBIs! 13-6
