Eric Stults (4-1, 4.29) vs. Ryan Dempster (3-3, 4.99).
COMMENTS: The Curse of Marisa Miller: It's on. You don't get to make bodily contact, however fleeting, with a Victoria's Secret/Sports Illustrated swimsuit model and not pay the price. And today the crows come home to roost. Whatever that means. You've been warned, Ryan Dempster.

Hey, I'm gonna need you guys to step up for me on today's Game Thread. I am in prison today.
Community service?
If I don't end up watching the game at the Angel-fan den, aka Angelo's Burgers in Anaheim.
Go Blue!
Pierre, LF
Furcal, SS
Hudson, 2B
Loney, 1B
Ethier. RF
Martin, C
Loretta, 3B
Kemp, CF
Stults, P
Whoa! Kemp's way down in the line-up.
Loney has the first 0-for-4 in his career, and he's rewarded with a cleanup spot.
Dempster would have to get shelled pretty badly for the curse to not be worth it.
EK, are you already accounting for the chlamydia?
We are underway.
Dodgers 1-2-3 in the first.
Stults: 1 pitch, 1 out.
Dodger game on a Saturday and I still haven't had a beer.
Must remedy.
Stults K's Theriot.
Early on, it looks like Stults is dealing. K's Theriot.
O-Dog can't get it.
Bradley with a shattered-bat flare just out of the reach of a diving Hudson.
It's about time for a Bradley meltdown.
Pierre perfectly positioned!
Pierre with a shoe-string catch. Inning over.
Zambrano told Bradley, "I got this one."
12 pitches in the bottom of the first. Nice inning.
Good inning for Stults, that shattered bat Bradley single was out of reach.
I heard Bradley gave him a 7 out of 10 for his tirade.
Orel, you might be kidding, but i saw Zambrano last year as a civilian and he's really very scary looking.
Damn, I thought I would have seen a flashback.
Are these guys in a hurry to get back to Rush St.?
According to Tim McCarver, pain going through your leg is not a good feeling.
What does McCarver know? No brain; no pain.
Big Russ with a stand-up double.
RISP!!!
bag aided double, would be nicer if there weren't two outs.
Loretta Time.
"Orel, you might be kidding, but i saw Zambrano last year as a civilian and he's really very scary looking."
I don't doubt you for one second, Karina.
get back loretta, to the dugout.
The bats continue to slumber.
Loretta sends one right back to Dempster. Inning over.
Nice to see Reed Johnson got rid of the right attached to his chin.
Soto is due to hit into DP.
Surprised Johnson didn't try to challenge Pierre's arm and stretch that single into a double.
KK
KK!
A lower throw would have gotten Johnson.
Damn. Fontenot RBI. Cubs 1-0.
Dammit. Fontenot doubles. Johnson scores.
i dont know, im not really feeling this game.
It was a great throw by Martin, Johnson just got out of base too fast.
Fontenot 2 RBI HR
Wow! What a catch by Martin!
im feeling that play though
I meant Fontenot doubled.
WOW Dempster bunted it behind Martin, who tried to barehand it—ball bounced off his hand and he caught it with his glove. Imagine the backspin.
the hope we can improve the offense today, its been a little sluggish this series.
Did they get tired from the slumber they gave in Colorado?
it kinda seems like it
Kemp still has trouble with that slider.
Damn, Dempster strikes out the side.
should have saved some hits for the national game.
Dempster strikes out the side. Whoopee.
So much for the Miller curse.
Maybe James Loney's NLDS GS took care of that.
Stults K's Soriano!
HBP and the fun continues
A grazing HBP.
Crap.
Stults hits Theriot. Theriot's pants.
Who said it was always a former Dodger? Orel? Steve?
gonna need a DP to get outta this one.
Hit & run for the Cubs. A taste of our own medicine.
Milton tagged trying to go to second
Nice, son!
alright, well thanks milton. now we just need an out.
"Who said it was always a former Dodger? Orel? Steve?"
Chappy brought it up in yesterday's Game Thread.
2-0 for Lee. He's on a slump but he's a dangerous hitter anyway.
oh come on, that curve looked good to me.
Russell Martin getting some national exposure!
The third ball was a a beautiful curve that should have been a strike.
Dammit. Johnson bunt single.
wow, the crap continues.
The Dodgers look awful today. Not the best way to play on a nationally televised game.
I think we left our offense back in Colorado.
Quasi-squeeze! Stults falls down fielding the bunt.
This doesn't feel good.
where's my bat? i have to pay a visit to the gatorade bucket.
It's ONLY 2-0 in the 3rd.
Soto grounds out. Inning over.
I'm sure lots of baseball fans are asking themselves how the Dodgers still have the best record.
This game hasn't been a good showcase so far. However, remember the game is on the 4th.
orel, i think your impending doom post got to me.
Orel, those were words of wisdom.
"orel, i think your impending doom post got to me."
My bad!
wow, raffy frozen.
Damn, Raffy caught looking. 4 straight K's for Dempster.
Dempster 4 K's in a row.
O-Dog walks. Finally a base-runner with less than two outs.
Dempster is distracted by O-Dog. Loney as to use that to his advantage.
Showing Zambrano's greatest hits on Fox.
Funny.
I'm sure Zambrano won't ever be spokesperson to Gatorade.
Fox showing Big Z's greatest hits.
Pray for Mojo.
Right where Dre wanted it.
This is getting ugly.
Soriano showboats the catch.
the dodgers offense looks in worse shape than that gatorade machine.
Nope nope nope.
OK, time to turn it around.
Beer opened: check
salt and vinegar chips: check
Dodger runs: left them in Denver.
Crap.
4 pitch walk, stults seems to be handing that 5 spot to milton.
Leadoff walk: check
Double crap.
dont worry guys, mota is warming up.
Oh no. Mota ?
Mota up in the pen: check
Triple crap.
Stults has been very good, in the case he had a bad outing, even the best have a rough day.
Mota sighting on the bullpen and suddenly, a chill run into my spine.
whoo, that was close.
Maybe Torre has Mota warming up as incentive for the Cub batters to start swinging in hopes of chasing Stults.
Just sayin.
That dude owns us today.
mota coming up, stults gone.
time of death 2:20 pm
One of those days. 3-0 Cubs.
With Mota coming in, this will only get worse.
OK, I'm going to lunch to watch this crapfest continue.
Think I'll call in to Dodgertalk after the game and call for Torre and Colletti's firing.
I kid. Those callers are funny though.
The bats were left in Denver.
3 pitches; 3 strikes?
Who is this guy and who got him the steroids?
Mota: 3 pitches, 1 K.
Mota just struck out someone...the pitcher...
Nice defense by Loney.
seems like mota is getting squeezed a bit. thats cruel
Lot of French surnames on this cub team.
there we go, thats more like it.
4 runs=insurmountable.
Thats the Mota we know and hate.
the cubs gave bradley a 3 year deal?! wow, you cant blame that on the curse.
ill take it.
At least Russell is putting on a defensive clinic.
It was a cheap inning and they still can get into the game.
not out of the commercial and kemp got a strike already
A HIT! A HIT!
we need to start getting on base with less than two outs.
And Kemp's hit knocks Mota out of the game. Good for us, bad for the bullpen.
i dont know how good for us it is, weavers up.
a little ironic that the lead into todays game was how the dodgers offense hasnt struggled since manny was suspened, and the dodgers follow that with a goose egg through five
This is getting out of hand. Hope we can get the split tomorrow.
hopefully this is at least sending a message to Ned that we need more reliable pitching. Sooner than later.
They will wait and see what effect Kuroda's return has.
i like hero, but we definately need more. Our Bullpen only has like three guys that are reliable.
come on weaver all you need is a triple play.
Can't throw strikes + can't hit = loss.
"come on weaver all you need is a triple play."
Nice.
well, almost.
Is this the first time this season where BOTH the pitching and hitting have been a dismal failure in the same game? Or am I just blinded by how good they've been lately?
This game is over. Time to look forward to tomorrow.
This doesn't bode well for tomorrow. If Milton doesn't go deep into the game, the bullpen will already be gassed.
in that case im looking forward to monday.
"Is this the first time this season where BOTH the pitching and hitting have been a dismal failure in the same game? Or am I just blinded by how good they've been lately?"
Not the first time, but certainly one of the few.
so this is what the rockies feel like?
When the team is constantly winning, and does everything right, these kind of games feel extra painful.
So this is what Earth feels like
sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the other team, then call them cheaters when they leave earshot.
The Rockies don't know pain yet. Let Jim Tracy settle in as manager, run his type of baseball.
haha, technically arent they already playing his kind of baseball, sub-500?
Could things get better with Jim Tracy?
All inning Buck & McCarver were talking about how good the Dodgers are. Meanwhile, the Dodgers were going GO, GO, K.
Orel, does that mean we're the red sox?
the kings got a mean hook
Larry King's sons wearing Dodger gear. Way to represent!
"Orel, does that mean we're the red sox?"
GOD FORBID
Great story by McCarver. That's what I want to hear from him.
Erin wouldn't mind if the Dodgers were the Red Sox.
Come on! One run at least! Dodgers have yet to be shut out this season. Let's keep the streak alive!
he should talk to 'dre
alright everyone, good vibrations.
(sad trumpets)
DRE!!!
Loney tags it but right at Bradley.
Damn TiVo lag.
its already the 7th?!
time flies when you are getting pwnd
Let's hit everything to Bradley!
So, Cavs or Magic tonight?
Camera work fooled me for a second on that Loretta flyout.
bradley could have been siting in a lawn chair that whole inning and made those catches.
Magic?. You guys are making me miss basketball again.
i dont know, id like the lakers to have home court. but they match up better against the cavs.
howard would destroy bynum, and the lakers have had trouble guarding the three pointer all year.
but then again, the magic cant stay this hot from three point land for this long, can they?
Ugh. 7-0 Cubs.
Solo HR by Johnson. 7-0.
I bet Steve is happier on the whatever prison he's in.
Home court is pretty crucial in the Finals.
the game is officially over, the seagulls come to pick at the carcass.
yeah, the lakers are the best road team in the NBA this year though.
Doesn't it pretty much come down to: Do you want to face LeBron or Howard?
well, if you look at the season series i would take lebron.
howard has a more complete team behind him
Wow, that's a lot of birds.
Orel - not really. If the ECF have proven anything, it's that the Magic have the better all-around team. Guys like Turkoglu, Alston, and Lewis can support Dwight Howard. Mo Williams is good, but he's overrated, same for Anderson Varejao, Zydrunas Ilgauskus, and Dolonte West.
Darn you and your carefully balanced thinking.
Who forgot to pack the bats?
hi everybody
i guess we were due for a dud like this. i just hope we can find our bats before we head home. I hope we can get feeling good these last few innings and take it into tomorrow. It seemed like we got some good swings last inning, just hit into some bad luck
A total of three runs over three games at Wrigley Field. This sounds awfully familiar.
The good news is we come home to the Diamondbacks!
should of went for a bird double
Kemp singles. First lead-off baserunner in the game.
I have the feeling the series against the D'Backs is going to break my heart, one way or another.
Who the hell sells a striped Dodgers jersey?
damn you jamie
nice takeout at 2nd there
Well that DP definitely took any air out of the tires that was left.
at least it a quick death
