Injury and Rest Update

Russell Martin hits an RBI-double in the fifth inning of tonight's game against the Angels.

From Eric Stephen at True Blue LA:

Andre Ethier left the game after the bottom of the seventh inning with a split nail on his right big toe, as a result of getting hit by a Lackey pitch on his foot, and is day-to-day. Torre said Ethier would likely sit out tomorrow, along with scheduled days off for Russell Martin and Rafael Furcal.

Straight from the horse's mouth! So Andre may be nails, but his nail is split. And unfortunately, Ethier (2-for-3 tonight) and Martin (2-for-4 with 2 RBIs) happen to be heating up right now. Which is probably why Joe Torre said about tomorrow's starter Chad Billingsley: "Hopefully we can give them some runs to work with."

I hate to see Ethier and Martin resting just as their bats are beginning to heat up. Furcal on the other hand, looks like he needs a couple day off.

"I was already missing half the nail," said Ethier. "It's been a problem all year. Since Spring Training, half the nail's been dead and now the whole thing is pretty much dead. It was throbbing."

That's nasty.

That is nasty. It's amazing how an injured toe can completely take a player out of a game.

Props to Andre for hauling ass around the bases to score.

i've had that happen to me and it's not fun. best thing to do is rip it off and start new. he should be back to 90% in a week, barring any more foul balls off that toe
