Clayton Kershaw (0-2, 7.29) vs. Jake Peavy (2-3, 5.74).
COMMENTS: So a 7-0 home record to start out this season ain't good enough for you, eh? We now need to challenge the record for the franchise's longest home winning streak to start a season (nine games, in 1946)? Looking at Peavy, the signs look good for the Dodgers, despite his historical dominance over Los Angeles; we beat him and the Padres 4-1 to open the season on April 6, and Peavy has given up 11ER in 11 IP over his last two starts (both losses). On the flipside, though, Kershaw hasn't had a win in any of his four outings this year, and his last two starts aren't anything to write home about, either (15ER over 9IP, both losses).
Accuscore is giving the Dodgers only a 53% chance of winning tonight's game. And by the looks of the guy on the ESPN video preview, he's not happy about that whatsoever.
He must not know about the Viva Las Vegas postgame fireworks. We'll alert the lone Dodgers beat reporter to print a story on that, stat.

Furcal, SS

Ramirez, LF
Loney, 1B
Kemp, RF
Martin, C
Blake, 3B
Kershaw, P
Pierre, CF
Great, like going from the penthouse to the basement with the defense in centerfield.
Is this Ethier's first day off? At least Kemp is batting higher in the order. Not sure about Loney batting cleanup, though.
Can Blake DeWitt play right field? He's got to have a better arm than Pierre.
So long sons, I won't be with you for the night
hopefully this is a scheduled day off for Ethier.
Im starting to worry that he will eventually be afraid to be on camera during the games.
Andre Is having a day off?!?! what a rip off. does joe torre not want kershaw to get a win ever?
i better hear randy newman at the end of the night.
53%...
so he's saying there's a chance?
Nic, is that a "Dumb and Dumber" reference? If so, I like it.
I'm heading out for dinner at my hotel tonight (happy to be out of Old San Juan--it was time for a change of pace), but if I'm lucky I'll be back in time to watch a glitchy MLB.tv feed of the game and talk to you guys.
And I hope we kick Peavy's ass.
I hope Kemp doesn't get hurt playing right.
I just have the worst gut feeling about having one of the best center fielders in the game have to play right because we have Juan Pierre begging for playing time.
maybe we are showcasing pierre for a trade. i wish.
Erin, it sure was a dumb and dumber reference.
im out, ill try to post some from the game on my iphone. We need a win!
Dusto, I think you're being paranoid (knock on wood). Kemp did play right-field for much of last year.
Ugh with the Ethier day off. I hope this has something to do with his poor record against Peavy and not Torre just being stupid.
Anyway, why not just put Manny back in RF and have Kemp play CF? Minimize Pierre's arm exposure.
Dusto - I am not as worried about Kemp getting hurt in RF (I actually was at the game where Loney got knocked out playing RF) as I am about degrading the defense. Kemp isn't that good of a RF, other than his arm. He is actually better as a CF, probably because of his weakness in reading balls.
Alireza,
Today is Ethier's first day off of the season.
I don't know about Kemp having a "weakness" in judging flyballs. Sure there are better but Kemp has looked pretty good this year fielding (and better than last year). And besides, wouldn't that "weakness" translate into worse performance at CF since he has more ground to cover there?

Kemp's biggest documented weakness is at judging straight on fly balls. That becomes even worse in RF where such balls are also coming at an angle. I am sure his new contacts have helped, but Kemp's main issues are related to depth perception.
I'm tryng to stare down pierre. Maybe he will pull something and ethier will have to play.
Damn wasn't food supposed to be cheaper at the ravine this year?
Watching matt kemp and pierre play catch is hilarious.
So much for roughing Peavy up in the first.
The lady behind me keeps calling him cosmonaut.
Kershaw rockin' the chinstrap tonight.
Funny, Nic!
I wonder if next Thursday's radio giveaway only tunes in to one station, like last year's helmet radios.
Martin smoked it but right at Burke. When you're down, you're down.
Awesome!
Carrow's is having a $10 prime rib dinner!
I blame Martin's struggles on his Smokin-HOT girlfriend!!
Siddown, Peavy!
We should all have such troubles, Booger.
Vin is giving props to Nancy Bea. :)
Beautiful barehand by Blake to a nice scoop by Loney!
Batting tall, Tall in the lineup, swinging bats the size of toothpicks.....
Nancy Bea is kind of underrated. I wonder if all stadiums have in-house organists?
I imagine organists are a rarity now. She definitely doesn't get enough props. She does things people don't even notice. I remember going to a game last year against the Pirates, and she was playing a Pirates Life for Me before the game. I got such a kick out of it, and I wonder how many people noticed.
Peavy's got our # so far. 7 in a row retired.
Wanted: Throwback Days at Dodger Stadium (SoSG)
Wow, Juan Pierre breaks up the no-hitter!
Another liner right to a guy.
Robbed again.
Pierre is a joke, Kemp would have caught that.
Seems that Pierre had a chance to catch that.
I think kemp would have caught that.
Aflac: Who holds the Dodgers record for pinch hits in 1 year?
Kershaw is off tonight.
Manny on the track!
Dave Hansen?
Aflac: Dave Hansen, 18 in 1993
Nice job, FB!
The rain is really starting to come down
mlb tv and gamecasts just arent working for me tonight :/ trying to follow things on here
yay! Dave was the Andy LaRoche of an earlier generation. never knew why he never got a real shot.
If CK can keep it close, I think we can wear down Peavy and beat these bums
I agree Fred. It might be a while before we see runs.
Kemp. Breaking ball. Forget it.
Well, it feels like we should be losing but there's no score. So that's good.
these gamecasts are wack right now - i cant follow the game. i'll come back and check the score later
You can take Matt Kemp out of center field, but you can't take the center fielder out of Matt Kemp! Or whatever!
8-pitch 1-2-3 inning for CK. Nice.
We've got a pitching dual.
Nice grab of that Peavy flare by Kemp. Man, he is taking great routes this year.
I also loved how Pierre was in the picture from the start, and Kemp ran his way into the camera shot (and the play).
Let's get our second hit, Dodgers!
Still raining.
Can we haz some hits?
Jake Peavy says: no.
Still, he's not owning us like Lincecum did. At least we're making some contact.
Nice try, Hairston.
Hairston can't believe he was just rung up by Kershaw...
Hey Orel, natalie, you guys still here?
With regards to your earlier comment about Nancy Bea, not all stadiums (stadia?) have in-house organists.
If the Dodgers wanted to be generous, I suppose they could become an organ player donor.
Anyone have a pitch count on Kershaw?
Orel, it raining out where you are? I'm feeling a couple of drops.
NicJ, where are you sitting? Are you soaked?
Shoot, that was a tough play for Furcal/Loney. Padre on second with two out in the sixth.
Tough error for Furcal. Loney could have had that.
"kershaw's in the 70s as far as his pitch count." --Vin
Much better throw by Furcal.
It's dry here, Sax.
Orel, meager minds never differ.
Thanks Steve
Vin's way off, or MLB Gameday is off--they say 90 pitches for Kershaw.
Wow, Kershaw already at 90 pitches.
I don't know why they're television advertising the Serie Azul, when the press release came out today that they're canceling that game (I think) due to this swine flu hysteria.
I'm still here, Steve. Threw this together for our 6th inning rally. Not my best work, but we'll see it if works.
Pierre, Furcal, and Hudson are due up.
We can get some runs if Peavy has a hiccup.
With Clayton pitching so well, we can win this game.
At the end of the night, "Dodgers Win," Vin will proclaim.
Vin just corrected himself on the pitch count. Peavy at 62 at the start of this inning.
Penos, you thanked me for the bad information...and Vin just corrected himself by stating the 90 pitch count.
Peavy's at 64, including two pitches to Pierre so far (0 and 2 the count)
Nice, Natalie!
Slappy grounds to Scrappy.
And I'm not happy.
I thought you're info was correct Steve. Clayton looks much better tonight than he did in his last start. I wish the Dodgers could geta run here.
Isn't Furcal due for a day off?
Furcal is matting .242 now.
Martin is right on Mendoza.
Ugh.
C'mon Manny!
I love Furcal's D and speed, but I think he needs a day off...at the Slam-O cages over by the 405.
O-Dog with the two-out single!
Come on Manny, stick a dagger with a home run!
Russell Martin could join him
COL 0, SF 2, top 6th
AZ beat the Brewers 5-2
Come on, Manny (0-2 count).
We should run Hudson
1-2 count to Manny. We should still run Hudson.
Manny Ks
Wow. Peavy is on is game.
100.
Blast!
Does Kershaw come back out for another inning?
Crap, you aced me out there PC --> Nice.
You don't see Manny strike out more than once in a game often.
This menopause Jack in the Box woman is going to give me nightmares.
Thats the cue for someone to begin warming up
I like how Juan Pierre grabbed the ball in front of Manny, like he was saying, "Here, let me throw it! I've got a cannon!"
It looks like it stopped raining
"So Henry and his tattoos go back to the dugout" --Vin, as Blanco is called out on strikes
Nice catch
Juan Pierre looks like he's riding a unicycle out there.
what the hell route was that for Juan Pierre? "The breeze just lifted it," said Vin. Come on, Juan's routes are insane.
At least he made the play, though!
Way to hold it together, Peavy.
I mean Kershaw, oops.
Kudos to Kershaw.
Much better version of GBA tonight.
Kershaw at 99 pitches. Does he come out for the eighth?
99 Pitches for Minotaur through 7. Well done, Clayton.
Now get him the win, boys!!!
I would hate to see the Belisario or Ohman ruin this great pitching performance
PC, when you said "that's the cue for someone to start warming up" back there, I hope you weren't referring to my comment directly before that about the freaky menopausal woman.
Thats funny. No, actually I thought Torre would get someoneup in the bullpen after Kershaw gave up the double
95 pitches for Peavy
Has Martin's BA dipped under .200 yet?
Thanks for answering my question Vin.
Boy, this Peavy kid is pretty good.
And Vin just noticed that Martin is at the .200 mark.
I hate MLB T.V. I wish I had cable/satellite. :(
I'm growing weary of this Peavy fellow.
And now Martin is at .198.
Sad. Very sad. I feel bad for Russell.
Very impressive outing for Clayton.
That's a brutal ND for Kershaw. Good work, Clayton.
Now come on, Belly.
WillohMan warming up in the bullpen.
Hairston HBP.
Belisario up to his old tricks?
Whose bullpen can collapse first?
The Dodgers look like they want to blow it first
Whoa, Vin says Kuo threw two warmup pitches out of the bullpen tonight.
Kuo must be ready for his annual elbow surgery.
Ohman K's Adrian Gonzalez. Nice.
Big out.
Well done, O-Man.
NIce job Ohman.
Hey, I just learned about that DirecTV Score Guide by pushing the red button. Wow!
Cool feature. I'm glad they prompted me on screen.
Nice. Now come on boys. I KNOW you can score!!
Bud Black's riding Peavy.
Ethier sighting!
Someone run out on the field and get their picture taken with Andre!!!
Andre HR, I called it here first
How hilarious would it be if the Padres catcher, Blanco, stood up and put his arm around Ethier to pose for a picture.
"Peavy and Kershaw, they figure out to battle each other many times through the years." —Vin
Not if the Padres trade Peavy to an AL team.
The ball just isn't carrying tonight.
We need Morganna the Picture-Taking Bandit.
The Dodgers' best chance was with Ramirez on first, letting Loney swing on a 3-0 count. That was in the fourth. Since then, I can't recall a threat on base.
Ethier tags it, but it's just short. No worries, here comes JP for the Slap HR.
slappy
On to the ninth, 0-0.
We lost NicJ a while ago. His iPhone must have run out of juice.
DO NOT BELIEVE THE COMMERCIALS
Serie Azul has been postponed
Just another example of McCourt throwing his ad money away...
I don't know about you guys, but I think this swine flu thing is a little out of control.
Look at those side burns and tremble.
Brox overcame the ump and struck out Kouz
You mean the H1N1/hybrid flu*.
*This message brought to you by the Pork Growers Association of America.
Well done, KC Blake
Joe Biden may have single-handedly killed the airline industry
Brox gets him
Jonathan Broxton: Fear My Sideburns
Sorry, Jody G.
But not too sorry.
Bottom of the ninth! NOW you play "Don't Stop Believing"!
When is Lakers/Rockets Game 1?
Yeah, MrLASF, the airline industry was doing great these past eight years.
Why do I feel worse for Peavy than Kershaw?
finally, Peavy is gone...
former Dodger Duaner Sanchez is in!
Hey, when the vp says he wouldn't let anyone in his family fly, that kills a lot of progress
Orel: Monday
Now they can break out against the Friars
Good Start, Raffy.
Yippee ki yay, mini sirloin burgers! Leadoff single for Furcal.
Raffy singles! Here we go! Again! Again! Again!
thanks Nat
Blast!
Argh, that hurts
O-Dog forces Furcal. Why the bunt?
Now Hudson's gotta steal second.
Risky play by Sanchez pays off. It'll be moot, though, when Manny homers.
Sanchez might have hurt his own case by getting Furcal—no place to put Manny.
Come on, Manny.....
He was going to walk Manny anyway.
Hudson goes to second. That just creates an excuse to walk Manny. The universe has balanced out.
There we go, Hudson at second...
...and exactly your point Orel, they're walking Manny.
Come on Loney.
Natalie, your last three claps are syncopated differently, right?
Orlando looks like he's upset that he took second.
Or are they steady-paced claps?
Show me the meaning of being Loney
Loney's got some weight on his shoulders
Thanks Natalie. I'm clapping along with you.
0-1 count. Well at least we know James won't swing on a 3-0 count this time.
NO WAY was that a strike. 0-2.
I sense GIDP, sadly.
200
New page of comments!
If James had swung at that third pitch, I would have gone nuts. 1-2.
Loney's working the count. 2-2
