Cartographic Stylings of SoSG Readers

If nothing else, that last puzzle showed us there are many ways to make a map.

There's the tree-branching method (from Karina):

  • Pros: gets me excited about March Madness.
  • Cons: requires a lot of tape.

The MS Excel method (from Fanerman):

  • Pros: very organized and easy to correct errors
  • Cons: no visual representation of doors between rooms

And again, the Dusty Baker method (from Dusty Baker):

  • Pros: includes Norwegian phrasebook and invaluable compass
  • Cons: none I can think of

And finally, here's SoSG Sax's:

You've seen the various styles. Now, who would you most want to be lost in a hedgemaze with?

Actually, don't answer that.

In related news, UBragg has selected the Furcal Bobblehead as his prize, which means you can look forward to a puzzle from Josh S sometime next season. Email us your mailing address UBragg and we'll get the b-head out to you.

As a geographer in the map making profession, these maps make me smile and weep at the same time.

I think Karina's is meant to be three dimensional! if you turn the middle piece crossways, it expands into some kind of magical tower

Wait, you're a geographer Wicks? Let's see your map!

@FB That little groove at the end looks like a perfect place for the Eye of Sauron.

I love fanerman's "die" notations.

I used the Excel format map, but didn't resize the cells.

I think I'd want to be lost in the hedgemaze with Dusty Baker and his map. Knowing how to say "Where can I get a beer?" in Norwegian can be very useful.

Hey why am I teal in Fanerman's map?!

Sadly I didn't have time during the workday to make a map EK. If I would have though, I'm sure it would have been a work of art!

Sorry to be a pain, but will you guys be posting a SWGT for the Rox/Phils and Yanks/Twins or would that dilute our focus too much?

I'm pulling for the Rox, oddly enough. (NL West represent!) Now that they're not breathing down our necks, I can appreciate their accomplishment and root for them over the EEEVIL Phils.

I want Fanerman.

His organizational skills and my devil may care attitude will get us to our destination.

For the life of me I can't remember why you're teal, Fred's Brim.

Phiwwies not looking confident with the leather so far.

Fanerman's spreadsheet is awesome. Only thing I would have added, as icing on the cake, is a mouseover function that reveals each cell owner's avatar.

And I never pictured FB as a teal. You're so much more of a Fall, not a Spring.

Ah, so the Rox announcers have cutesy names for the players ala the Angels. Hawper?

Wicks,

You're a cartographer? I want to be like you when I grow up!

He was safe by a mile!!!

"He was safe by a mile!!!"

Baseball gods balanced out that catch call from Saturday.

rbnlaw said...

Holy shit! The game is on?

BTW, couldn't get over the Twinkie announcers calling Ron Gardenhire, "Gardy."

Kyle Baker said...

@ Josh-

Natural order is restored now that those two calls cancel each other. The Guss is safe...for now.

Kyle Baker said...

RB-

Yeah, the "Gardy" bit is just plain lame. Not only is it cheesy, but it's totally unimaginative. Can you imagine Vinny calling Joe Torre "Joey" or "Joe-Joe" ?

Josh S. said...

Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabbadoo?

rbnlaw said...

It's all part of the "Small Market" charm, I guess.

Vin could call Torre, "Big Toe."

BTW, karina's map failed because she did not have my room included.
FAIL!

APODACA.

I also want to be like Wicks when i grow up!

I know my map sucks but it was intended to proportionate every tidbit of info, it's more like an infographic, though mine doesn't have the Norwegian touch of Dusty's map.

Fanerman, i like the order of your map. However, i like Sax's map the best, you have to respect anyone who uses golden proportion, grids and primary colors ;)

karina said...

@Rbnlaw of course your room is there, look on the upper side! i wouldn't have ruled out, as Fanerman said "for the life of me"

Kyle Baker said...

@ Josh

"Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabbadoo?"

It wasn't intentional, but I guess Simpsons references just flow subconsciously from my fingertips.

Also, above, I meant "Guff."
