Well, that was bullshit. Constricted by a strike zone tighter than Prince Fielder's waistband, Clayton Kershaw imploded in the fifth inning, giving up five runs (including a Carlos Ruiz three-run homer) while issuing three walks and throwing three wild pitches. But Cole Hamels followed suit, as Manny Ramirez parlayed a Chase Utley error into a three two-run homer.
It was a game until the eighth, when the usually reliable George Sherrill walked two and then gave up another three run homer, this one to Raul Ibanez. The Dodgers had a glimmer of hope when Matt Kemp led off the ninth with a single, but Casey Blake GIDPed and all of a sudden it's 2008 again.
The Dodgers outhit the Phillies 14-8 but also gave up seven walks and left ten men on base. To rub it in, former Dodger Chan Ho Park pitched a scoreless inning for the Phillies, and Brad "Is Back" Lidge got the save. We do this again in 15 hours, so it's time to move on.

Manny's was a two-run dinger.
Let's stick it to Pedro tomorrow.
I'll Give that Jheri curled dinosaur Pedro a knife edged chop.
Woooo!!
Can Torre post a list of former Dodgers and Dodger killers to either throw at, throw around, or at least be particularly mindful of, our our players can take appropriate action? I never ever ever again want to see Can't Throw Park get ANY of our batters out. Ever. Do you hear me?
The evil bearded red Chan Ho is way better than the clean shaven blue one.
Wooo!!
I'm going to be a total jerk and take approximately... lessee, carry the one, plus two ... four of the next five work days off (actually I'm cheating a bit because some of those will be half days). Tomorrow spent at the park AND THEY'D BETTER WIN DAMMIT.
Not a totally embarrassing loss, but jeez. They really looked lame there.
I won't be on until late tomorrow, so I just want to say it now:
SHUT UP ABOUT FUCKING BRAD FUCKING LIDGE
Anyone else hate Carlos Ruiz as much as I do? He's harder to get out than Pujols for us.
did anyone happen to notice that the announcer totally ripped off Vin when manny hit his HR?
tomorrow will most certainly be a pitching duel instead of HR derby. after all, today was supposed to be a nice pitching duel, not an O explosion
I expect Pedro to give us the Cy Young treatment.
I also expect Padilla to get lucky. Like the hitters barely missing HR by like a centimeter off the bat
i wont be able to watch it or listen to it. hopefully i come home to a nice 1-1 series tie
The Phillies are bearable, I'm not worried. Let's getthegame tomorrow and keep hitting up a storm.
We just have to figure out how to get Carlos "Babe" Ruiz out.
Drove down from SF this morning, sat in the RF Pavilion, will sit in the LF Pavilion tomorrow. Will drive back to SF tomorrow night. Only a split will make the drive tolerable. . .
Dammit! I was hoping to go into Philadelphia leading the series 2-0. I guess a 1-1 tie is better than 0-2 deficit.
We know the Dodgers can still win this, they weren't over matched by any pitcher today. Park was good but still hittable. Sherill didn't pitch a good game but he'll be back tomorrow. One good thing about this is the guys kept fighting and were tough outs. If they do the same tomorrow but with better pitching on their side...well we'll see.
I'll be around.
i am still mad this morning
i am sad this morning.
Nic,
I like that avitar.
Can you feel it?
Ah Wooooooooo!
Oh, and I'm slightly hungover this morning.
I need 1 o'clock badly.
So the real Randy Marsh has the same grasp on reality that the South Park Randy Marsh has.
The game was frustrating as hell, especially since the offense technically did what it needed to do to come back from the 5-1 deficit before Sherrill put it out of reach. That said, it's a new day, I've got my Ethier shirt on at work, and I'm ready to watch the boys smack Pedro into next week!
And by watch, I mean listen.
