Game 135 Thread: Sept 3 vs. D'bags, 7p

Jon Garland (8-11, 4.29) vs. Billy Buckner (2-5, 8.63).

COMMENTS: Tonight, the former D'back and current Dodger goes against the current D'back with a former Dodger's name. And really, if the Dodgers can't beat a pitcher with a 1.770 WHIP, then it's going to be a long September indeed. If the Dodgers don't get the split, I'm going bananas.

And yet regardless of what the offense does, the pitching (and somehow Billingsley) will get blamed if we don't win tonight.

NicJ said...

Keep in mind that he only has two wins, just two.

Oh, one of them was against us?

Uhhhh....

Go Dodgers!!!!

NicJ said...

Buckner that is.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

I liked Buckner better when he was an outfielder.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

And Los Dodgers better win tonight because I finished my book.

Eric Stephen said...

A long September, and there's reason to believe that this year will be better than the last!

Paul said...

The last time this team won 4 in a row was Manny Slam.

I begining to think the Dodgers subsequent acts of making such a big deal of one game in the middle of the season against a bad team have now cursed the Dodgers and Manny.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

We're the Dodgers, Paul. We don't believe in curses. That's an East/Mid-Coast thing.

Nostradamus said...

@Eric Stephen

Counting Crows! That's a ride in the "Wayback Machine"

Neeebs (The Original) said...

Mr. C: Not even close to being as far back as "The Minstrel in the Gallery." I'm surprised a Minstrel like yourself didn't know that.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

*Mid-West

Neeebs (The Original) said...

That was way too random.

Paul said...

MLSF

okay then the glorifying of Manny Slam might just be bad karma.

Nostradamus said...

@Eric Stephen

I had to laugh at myself just now, since nearly every reference I draw is older than that album. The gist was that I hadn't listened to it in a while.

Nostradamus said...

@Neeebs

See above.

rbnlaw said...

KK has a great point. Bills let up a 2-run jack, but the other two runs were the result of some opportunistic seeing-eye ground balls and shaky fielding.

The offense is, as they say, mired.

Nostradamus said...

@Neeebs,

...Lord knows I love me a Jethro Tull flute solo, though.

Jints and Phils tied at one in the 6th.

Kyle Baker said...

I'd like to revise and extend my previous remark:

Phils now lead 2-1.

karina said...

@Paul that's Green Day's "Wake me up when September ends" from "American Idiot"

karina said...

@Neeebs it's awesome how you can reference Baroque music and Counting Crows.

Kyle Baker said...

Mrs Dusty just told me that there is a new Green Day musical that will be playing in San Francisco when we're up there next month. I damn sure want to check that out!

Gagne's lucky glasses said...

Alright, Super Strength Gagne is in effect for tonight's game...let's do this boys!

Paul said...

That is correct Kiddo!

Dusty

i think when you post the lineup you should just leave the lead off spot blank or insert a non sequitur. Wait is Furcal leading off already one?

Kyle Baker said...

Gagne's Lucky HGH

Kyle Baker said...

@ Paul

Or maybe they can just start the game with one out and the 2 spot up to bat.

Steve Sax said...

Brad Lidge does not want to winthis game

NicJ said...

upton out of the game? we better win this game.

NicJ said...

who the hell is that douche yelling?

Orel said...

Furcal grounds out. Alert the media.

NicJ said...

maybe we should have traded for buckner.

Steve Sax said...

Has Jon Gatland gotten the memo yet that he isn't playing for the Dbags anymore?

Steve Sax said...

@Eric Stephen, great Counting Crows reference. When I think whiny lead vocalists, I think Adam Duritz.

Believe in me, cause I believe in anything
and I wanna be someone who believes

Steve Sax said...

At least the Giants and Rox both lost.

NicJ said...

At least loney still has his glove.

Fred's Brim said...

looks like we're off to a great start...

I can't hang, but would like to wish everybody a good game tonight. I am tired of this sub-500 play, to the point it makes me angry. I hope the team show up tonight with that same attitude and punishes Arizona for just showing up on the same field.

Steve Sax said...

Didn't Loney just have that same play a couple of days ago, except his throw didn't allow the tag at second? Nice job, FJL.

NicJ said...

i know dodger fans are frustrated, but i dont think booing manny is going to help the situation.

Martin and furcal have been bad all year and nobody boo's them.

Steve Sax said...

No no-hitter for Buckner!

NicJ said...

mini manny comes up clutch again!

NicJ said...

hooray for errors!

karina said...

I'm against any booing when you support a team. It lacks logic, instead of stimulating them for a better performance, people insult the players, lower their self-esteem and it doesn't change whatever happened on the field.

Besides, aren't they fans of the game? if people make mistakes when playing the game as a video game, you don't have to be a genius to realize human beings would suck at one point or another, specially on the big stage of professional sports.

karina said...

James Loney scored from second with a single!. He isn't that slow, afterwards :)

NicJ said...

Le sigh

karina said...

Drew HR, Culebras 2, Dodgers 1

Steve Sax said...

Garland! You. Are. A. Dodger. WTF? HR to Drew???

NicJ said...

to be fair sax, his play is fitting right in with how we have been playing.

Steve Sax said...

@karina 7:51p: yeah, but if I screw up on a videogame, I just hit "reset".

I agree with you that FJL showed good speed to score on the BelliYard single.

Too bad we're losing again.

NicJ said...

Why Andre?

karina said...

@Steve Sax You're right, but booing is not the answer anyway.

karina said...

I have an awful headache and the Dodgers are not helping me.

NicJ said...

damn, manny got all of that one.

NicJ said...

Offense, clap clap
Offense, clap clap

karina said...

Game tied. Tell me the crowd frenzied enough about the Manny's HR.

NicJ said...

haha, everyone gets a hug from manny when he hits one out.

NicJ said...

yeah, the place went nuts.

Paul said...

My buddy Sue just got a Manny hug!

NicJ said...

hey look at loney with the productive out.

NicJ said...

i know this is off of billy buckner, but this feels great.

NicJ said...

and martin pulls it into a DP, some things never change.

lets keep it going next inning though

karina said...

This game is too fast.

Kyle Baker said...

Whaddideye miss?

NicJ said...

nice slide by loney.

NicJ said...

i forgot Russ already used his one hit for the game earlier. Oh well, one run with the bases loaded and 1 out is progress.

Kyle Baker said...

Russ already used his kill shot, so to speak?

NicJ said...

gotta call it, i was just going over that at practice today.

Loney and martin take a lap.

NicJ said...

It Rhymes with Mulva.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

@Nic - Delores?

NicJ said...

there wasnt a decent hitting shortstop we could have made a trade for?

Damn Juan Pierre for being left-handed so we cant at least try him out there.

NicJ said...

then again, can he really throw any worse with his right?

Kyle Baker said...

Beto Duran just sent a Tweet saying something to the effect of newspapers not being dead and that several different LA Times sports writers are there at the game tonight, incl. Plaschke. I Tweeted back "Plaschke = douche" so hopefully that message gets out there in the Twittersphere.

NicJ said...

@db, im sure there is more than one of that exact same message floating around the twitterverse

Kyle Baker said...

NicJ, I'm sure you're right. Just want to promulgate this message far and near, by all means necessary.

NicJ said...

by all means, dusty.

Paul said...

Rusty Ryal goes to sleep by falling down on his face

Steve Sax said...

4-2! Nice.

Gotta get back to my dinner...

Kyle Baker said...

Nice, Paul!

I like your Boutique, by the way.

NicJ said...

id like at least one more run.

NicJ said...

i guess two will have to do.

NicJ said...

a 1-2-3 inning would be great right now.

Kyle Baker said...

Pressure is on, Brox.

On behalf of Karina, I believe in you.

On behalf of me, don't fuck up, pin head!

NicJ said...

guess not.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

One away

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Two away

Orel said...

I'd like a pony.

Kyle Baker said...

All Brox's pitches so far have ranged 96-99. None over, none less.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

We win!

Kyle Baker said...

Tau dau!

Steve Sax said...

Done and done. +1 game on both Rox and Giants.

Gagne's lucky glasses said...

How did Garland look? I missed the whole game

JuanLove said...

ground ball machine

lead off hit and walk right after lead to a run. and gave up a solo HR, but he was solid otherwise

Kyle Baker said...

GLG:

Shaky at the beginning (understandable, given...) but he hung tough ("But he hung tough? Naw, Buddy bauled out!") and ate up a ton of innings for us, as was most needed. Wasn't Cy Young, but solid. Glad to have him, and glad the crowd gave him his props as he left the game.

Went 97 pitches.

Gagne's lucky glasses said...

Thanks Dusty

Gagne's lucky glasses said...

Happy Gagne is back after the Dodgers win

NicJ said...

was anyone watching the oregon boise st game right now?

Kyle Baker said...

Are those Lucky Glasses in your pocket or are you just happy to win, Gagne?

Kyle Baker said...

Naw, what happened, NicJ?

NicJ said...

haha, one of the guys from oregon sucker punched a boise st player. Right on the chn it looked like he dazed him. Its hilarious they keep replaying it in slowmo.

MR.F said...

I applaud that brilliant nickname. D'bags indeed.

Kyle Baker said...

"Ladies and gentlemen, Glass Joe!"

NicJ said...

the dude sort of deserved it, he clearly said something to him.

JuanLove said...

dang, i'll see that later

JuanLove said...

finally, bochy admitted that yes, he used to doctor the radar gun when brad penny started against his clubs. He claims it’s the only pitcher he’d do that against, knowing penny turns and catches a glance after every pitch.

“yeah, i guess word got out,” bochy said with a sly grin. “the funny thing is, i said, `take 5 mph off to mess with his head.’ and he was throwing 94. I said again, `take 5 off.’ they said, `we are.’ “

NicJ said...

i heard he also does that with the clubhouse scale when Doughval gets on it.

Kyle Baker said...

Just saw that sucka punch. I'm sure that Smurf St. dude was talkin some smack, and it was a funny situation when viewed on Sportscenter. But damn, Boise, are you really gonna let some knicklehead come in to your house and let someone do that to your boy? That's YOUR house (Smurfy as it may be)! You shoulda cold swarmed.
