Hiroki Kuroda (6-6, 4.00) vs Kevin Hart (4-6, 4.86)
DODGERS' MAGIC NUMBER (vs Rockies): 11
COMMENTS: Pie rates are going down! They went down yesterday. They went down Monday. Then went down the Saturday, Friday, and Thursday before that. In fact, they've gone down 16 of the past 18 games! And if the experts are correct, there's a 78% chance they'll drop again today.
Let's hope the Dodgers use their brooms to help keep pie rates, like mortgage rates, around their historical lows.
And one other note. With yesterday's win, the Dodgers made it to +28 over 500 for the first time since Oct 1, 1988. Anyone want to guess when the last time they were +29 was?
Answer: Oct 5, 1985

The magic number for clinching a playoff berth is into single digits now. I'm feeling good about going into the post-season on the upswing, but I'm feeling bad about the inevitable productivity dip this afternoon.
I'll be splitting my attention between Dodgers/Pirates and Liverpool's Champions League opener. How can I be expected to work under these conditions?
I'm leaving for the Ravine in about a half hour. Dodgers are 3-1 when I'm in attendance this year. It's no Erin magic, but it's not too shabby either.
Looks like the B team today. Not that there's anything wrong with them! Understandable after late night game.
Pierre LF
Belliard 2B
Ethier RF
Kemp CF
Loney 1B
DeWitt 3B
Ausmus C

no Manny on bobble head day again
we need to reverse the curse.
finally Raffy gets a day off. when was the last time that happened?
Yeah, I hope they aren't trying to get too Hollywoodish and try to manufacture some Manny Bobblehead heroics Part II.
So do Ethier, Kemp, and Loney look around the field and say, "Who are these guys. . .oh, wait. . .Wassup JP?"
Shortstop opens in approx. 30 min.
Headed out now. I'm in 112 Loge, Row D, Seat 2.
Absolutely no truth whatsoever that I will be hanging around the Loge Lounge area beforehand
Drop me an email to my BBerry if you're in the area: bakerkm45@gmail.com
1988 was a damn good year.
I am done pulling for the Giants. They can lose all the rest of their games now.
I'm at the stadium, sitting in Mannywood for the first time. Gotta go get my free t-shirts soon. It's hot out here.
I agree with Paul.
They've done their job. The Dodgers should reward them with a drubbing when they get here.
@Paul
I can get behind that. I don't want the Giant's rotation anywhere near the postseason.
What will be interesting is if the Giants need the Dodgers to win that final series.
Josh, is Luke making his first trip to the stadium? I hope you've warned him that tailgating is banned there
Florida already putting the beat-down on the Cards 3-0 after 1/2 inning.
Rbnlaw
Have one for me @ the shortstop. I will be there come playoff time and the Rockies series.
@Paul @Rbnlaw you are very right! the Dodgers could indeed trash them so they realize they're not that good.
Following the 1988 theme, today is Orel Hershiser's birthday, so happy birthday to him wherever he is.
@Paul,
Hopefully we'll be at the all-repko-all-the-time portion of the season by the last series. I'd be willing to take a meaningless loss or two if it meant giving SF the boot from the after-party.
@Mr Customer feel your pain...we all should be paid to be sports fans :)
happy birthday Orel!
@Paul
I wish I was at the SS today prior to gametime. I'm stuck at work.
I thought DB was going, but looks like he settled for the lounge on loge. I will, however, hoist a few for you on my next visit. Hopefully one of the games on the last stand.
At the game. It is hot. Dodger dog done. It is a sellout but only one third filled.
how bad was that "double". Did the sun really get Juanny?
Something's cookin in the first!
Anyone watching on TV? Did they explain why there's no second base ump today?
Arsenal down to Standard Liege 2-0 after first 4 minutes.
London in flames, er, inflammed.
Rangers down to Stuttgart 1-0. Rangers' fans asking if third place in group stage go to the Europa Cup. Funny because it's true.
blah
it was cooking, then burnt and thrown in the trash. Matty's K hurt
Unlike the Dodgers in the first, Arsenal scores!! Waiting on details.
Liverpool threatening.
Kuyt scores for Liverpool.
Bendtner for Arsenal.
Dodgers play RISP bingo come up with B-zero.
Buckys score. I saw this last night.
OK Hiro, no hits for opposing pitcher
Erin,
Vin said Jerry Davis wasnt feeling well
good job, Hiro. I predict you will be batting this inning
Karina, your avatar is making me hungry.
Jerry Davis is "not feeling well" but Scully said that if he "feels well enough" he'll show up later to do some umpiring. Dude is too hung over to wake up for a noon game?
Also sorta related, anyone notice the two guys decked out in full umpire gear sitting behind home plate?
Oh no, they're at Dodger Stadium now?
@Orel i changed avatars when i saw the game thread picture, so it is EK's influence. My avatar is a pecan pie, which is one of the reasons i like the USA so much :)
Love the pie pics when i'm on my week of detox diet, i can't have pie but i can stare at them.
Come for the baseball, stay for the pie!
damn, bad luck there
*does scuffle shuffle*
gotta be more patient against this guy

Arsenal stage a thrilling comeback
3-2 to Standard Liege.
Rangers draw even to Stuttgart.
Dodgers yet to catch comeback fever.
Cmon Hiro, bear down with 2 outs
attaboy Hiro!
All over in Liverpool. 1-0 home side, bring on Fiorentina!
Is it me or McCutchen is on a very good moment?does anyone know if he's good all the time?
Good day for the Empire.
Liverpool and Arsenal victorious; Rangers gain a tie at Stuttgart.
Glasgow safe for now.
Kuroda asked to help his own cause.
*yawn*
Yeah he is pretty good Karina. He was the pirates #1 pick a few years back.
Not to brag or anything, but Milan won 2-1 to the Marseille!. Pippo Inzagui became in the highest scorer in the history of the Champions League.
Arriba la brigatta rossonera!
@Fred's Brim thanks! was he promoted on september 1st? he's making contact all the time from what i've seen on gameday.
@NIC J: sorry, it was you who knew! thank you very much!
Hiro through 6! Nice work!
@karina
Good for the Red and Black, and they did it without a certain English midfielder.
MATTY!!!
2-1 good guys!
That' the good stuff right there.
why thrown something that over the plate on 0-2?
oh well, thanks anyways.
Does anyone know if Hart was a first round pick?
Oh man. BISON!!!
Don't you love the Bison?
BISON.
Lets get to 30/30
musta bought a $5 footlong for lunch and had an extra meatball
bad luck hitting into guys covering on steals and hit and runs :/ lets get them out of our system now
Private First Class Jeffrey Bison.
OK guys i have to run - can you lock this down for me?
@karina
AC really controlled that match. Add to it that Inter only could manage a draw today, it's even better!
Holliday GIDP ends the game for the cards. 5-2 and the marlins take the series.
I'm glad we got our slump out of the way earlier.
@Mr Customer exactly! they are making me very happy today!
p.s i love the way you talk!
@Rbnlaw and press praised the work of those midfielders who aren't the blond English one.
Well, when you have a team with Seedorf and Pippo at a Champions League match, it's heaven on earth.
Hiro pitched beautifully
@karina
"i love the way you talk!"
Well, shucks [blushes];)
Another run here would be great, Juan.
or not.
Three more outs to a magic number of 10. Is Torre going to send Broxton again or let Sherrill go two?
@Mr Customer: now i'm blushing!. See, i like when people state that the AC is superior to the Inter. It's a shortcut to my heart, as pies.
Another HR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That takes a little pressure off.
This is Erin's and Josh's magic!
A home run to the first pitch!
@karina
My list of things superior to Inter is very, very long.
Brox it is, then.
@Mr Customer you have just won yourself extra points with me.
Gotta run! see ya later to talk about a Dodgers win.
woop! got home in time for the last strike!
I like it when we sweep teams!
Sweep!
victory party at Marie Calendar's!
Way to go, Dodgers. Bison roars!
By the way, Scoreboard Watching post for the Rox @ SF game goes up in about a half-hour...
SoSG, giving readers something to do all day long
So the last time we were this many games over .500, I was about a month old.
Let's play two.
If everything goes their way, and my math is correct, the Dodgers could clinch a playoff berth as soon as Monday.
Qualfier: My math is usually at least suspect, and 5 straight losses for SF is not very likely.
@Fanerman:
Are RBN and I the oldest people on this site???????????
I have underwear older than you Fanerman.
@Neeebs,
I was going give fanerman a little grief for being a young punk, but the same could be said about me by some (I'm only 32).
That said, I'm a cranky old geezer at heart.
Don't worry Neeebs. I'm old at heart.
Neeebs, are you still giving people grief about being young? Are we making you feel old? ;-)
Neeebs remembers when Ford became president, and when being president of Ford was something to remember.
How the hell do you make the avatar pictures big? Mine are always little after clicking the link.
Can someone help MLASF make his bigger?
Wait, I think I received an email advertising that service. Let me see if I can dig it up.
@Dusty - I was trying to phrase it so that innuendo would not occur.
okay so the timeline is:
Summer of 1985 Neebs buys new underwear.
Aug/Sept. of 1985 fanerman is born.
October 5, 1985 the Dodgers get to 29 games above .500.
What a season it was.
@ MLASF
It's funny b/c sometimes I'll be typing some masterful insight/insipid snark, and then I'll do an editing pass to make sure I haven't left myself open to some smartass like me responding to innuendo, a mother joke, etc.
It was dang hot behind the right field foul pole today. My arms are scorched.
Sorry DB, I don't have the kind of phone that I can use to check SoSG while I'm out, so I missed that you were also on the Loge level.
I'll be uploading pics in a bit. I'll post 'em here or in the PGT if it's up.
Sorry I missed you Josh S. 'Twas a great afternoon at the Yard. Will post some game notes in the HFYPGT when it's ready.
@db
"I'll do an editing pass to make sure I haven't left myself open to some smartass"
I've started leaving them in just so I have an excuse to come up with a clever riposte.
I'll star leaving myself hanging out there, too, Mr. C. It's only fair.
@db
Excellent! You'll find you have more fun, and you'll always know which way the wind is blowing.
Exactly! You caught my drift, so to speak.
@Mr. C:
Damn you are an old soul. What kind of 30 something year old masters the history of European Monarchs?
@Paul:
LOL
@MLASF
Ah...the dog days of President Ford. My first real memory of a presidential assassination attempt.
@neeebs,
I skipped everything between 21 and 61.
