Post-Game 157 Thread: Does Champagne Travel?

PIRATES 11, DODGERS 1

If ever you needed proof that baseball is also a mental game, look no further than this morning's shellacking. After a humiliating ninth inning yesterday, the Dodgers elected to watch the Rockies game in the clubhouse for a possible delayed celebration. "As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter how it happens as long as you make it happen," Jeff Weaver told the LA Times.

Of course, the Rockies won (they're off today), and the Dodgers came out this morning flatter than Kate Moss. Former Dodger — and it's always a former Dodger — Andy LaRoche did most of the damage, going 5-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs.

Then again, maybe this is the Dodgers' crafty way of bringing their playoff celebration closer to Southern California. They start a two-game series against the Padres tomorrow, and you can be sure Dodger fans will flock to PETCO Park en masse. Pretty sneaky, sis!

You know I was pretty pissed this morning, but I thought about it and all the teams at the top seem
to be just treading water. All with just records of around 5-5 in the last ten. We could be In a worse situation than our players phoning it in till October. Phillie has Major bullpen issues, and the cards are having just as much trouble scoring runs as we were a few weeks back, and I think yadier Molina is having a bit of injury trouble.

So, I guess I can understand my team holding back till the playoffs, as long as that's why they are doing. Rest up gentlemen the season is going into early november.

Nic, you're taking me on an emotional roller coaster, man! ;-)

Watched Phillies stink...has some wine...whined and cried...broke up then made up with Dodgers...wine...now I'm feelin better.

Also, look at the bright side, no more Eric Collins for the year.

Nic, you brightened my spirits!

Was just checking in on the angel game and they showed a fan holding up a "Git R Done Angels" sign.

What kind of person takes the time to make something so stupid?

NicJ said...

Damn, I just realized that tomorrows game Is on kcal so there will be no extensive post game show if we do happen to clinch. The rox play early too so we can clinch before we even end our game.

Maybe prime will do a post game still.

While watching baseball tonight they were showing dodger highlights and they showed the bobbleslam. Kruk felt he should add a snarky "no comment" over that highlight.

WHAT AN ASS!!

Side note, they've shown that damn sign so many times on the angels broadcast.

Well, at least we get to hear Vin Scully say "And the Dodgers are division champions!" I'll be damned if I have to hear that from Collins or Steiner.

Kyle Baker said...

Would Steiner even notice it? Or know the score?

If I get one more Tweet from local sports writers, local sports channels, MLB, etc. re Angels clinching, I'm going to rip somebody's fucking lungs out. You god damn better well do the same, and with the same gusto, when Dodgers clinch. I'm watching!

Other than that, I'm very calm.

NicJ said...

Silly Angels, playoff victories are for Red Sox.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

My bike tires, the NL Western Division championship celebratory champagne, and the Dodgers.

What are three things that are getting flatter by the second?

NicJ said...

Hayoooooo

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

But seriously, we have a really big show tonight. Really big show.

No, that's not right...

Kyle Baker said...

I thought Kate Moss was one of the three.

NicJ said...

The angels dousing adenharts jersey with champagne makes me a little uneasy.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Moss is already as flat as can be. My bike tires have more in them, and their flat as hell.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

@Nic - That's a little morbid.

NicJ said...

Fuentes just went to throw an empty bud light can in the trash and it was hit over the fence for a three run jack.

Oh come on Aybar the best short stop arm in baseball?!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Oh, and before I leave, I had the chance to listen to a little 710 today. A Martinez is such a jackass. I could literally hear him grin from ear to ear about how this weekend's series with the Rox might actually mean something.

NicJ said...

Yeah what is up with a Martinez, all he does is whine about not having an ace.

Kyle Baker said...

Why do you guys watch that and do that to yourselves? I ran into my bedroom and shut the door, pulling the shades on my way to a darkened corner with just the light of my laptop to keep me company. Can't handle the celebration.

MLB Tweet just now:

"1 LA team scored 11 & clinched West. 1 LA team had 11 scored ON it & has clinched berth but waits to clinch West."

Can't take this.

NicJ said...

There only is ONE L.A. Team.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

@Nic - That and anyone who compliments the Dodgers just wants to hand them the World Series trophy. I think he's pissed he got fired when KABC took over.

Kyle Baker said...

One team in LA,
There's only one team in LA,
One team in LA,
There's only one team in LA...

Another upside of today:

The loss makes a 99-win season impossible, saving us from yet another Manny-related marketing scheme.

*blows noisemaker*

NicJ said...

Besides, the angels have to worry about ONE Boston team.

(I do hope they beat them though)

NicJ said...

A Joe Beimel win season maybe?

warning: what you're about to read may make you so angry you WILL break something. just be careful everyone

Matt Kemp, biggest Dodger dolt

sorry if it was posted already

NicJ said...

Yeah I saw that one. Let me link you to the story I wrote about Jason Repko having the potential to hit 10+ homeruns in the post season and he will be the world series MVP.

Oh sorry by reading that article I thought it was make shit up day.

Phew, thank god we don't have to play the Nats or Pirates in the playoffs. I'm more confused than ever about what our playoff starting rotation will be.
