Randy Wolf (10-6, 3.22) vs. Zach Duke (10-14, 4.02)
DODGERS' OFFICIAL MAGIC NUMBER: 14
COMMENTS: Some random Randy Wolf facts:
- Their mating season generally runs from January to April.
- Both his win total and ERA have improved in each of the last 4 seasons.
- If the female wolf is not sexually receptive to the male's advances, she will repel the male with growls and snaps of her jaws.
- Of the 10 major leaguers named Randy, 8 are pitchers (how many can you name?). Only one has a better ERA than Randy Wolf, and none has more wins.
- Wolves often have long-standing and monogamous relationships, and after mating, a wolf will continue to be affectionate with his mate.
- He was born on the exact same day as Jeff Weaver.
All wordplay gags aside, chew on this: yesterday's win put the Dodgers at +27 games above 0.500 for the 4th time this season. A win tonight would put them at +28 games above for the first time since...October 1, 1988.

ok, Randy Wells has a better ERA. I know that
-Randy Wells
-Randy Johnson
and now i blanked out
and here's the line-up via inside the dodgers.
Furcal, SS
Martin, C
Ethier, RF
Manny, LF
Kemp, CF
Blake, 3B
Loretta, 1B
Hudson, 2B
Wolf, P
Choate, Flores, Wells, Johnson, Winn, Messenger, Ruiz, Williams,
Winn and Ruiz are the only position players,
Loretta? Well, I guess there's no reason for me to watch tonight.
Well done EK. That picture made me laugh loud enough for my boss to wonder why I am not doing any work.
What are those two wolves looking at, and why has the one wolf climbed on the other's back? Is he trying to get a better view of whatever it is they're looking at?
I think Loretta is as useless offensively as Thome is defensively.
"What's Santa's Little Helper doing to that dog? Looks like he's trying to jump over, but he can't quite make it."
@Andrew: "I think Loretta is as useless offensively as Thome is defensively."
By your powers combined...
I am...
...a halfway decent baseball player!
Zack Duke's last three starts:
CHC 4 innings, 12 hits, 8 runs
CIN 6 innings, 9 hits, 5 runs
MIL 3 innings, 11 hits, 7 runs
Mlasf, you are correct. Correcter than me in fact, as I think there are only 9 mlb Randys, not 10.
yikes
cmon Randy, tighten it up
walk to Milledge, HR by Pearce, then a double to the walk by Cendeno, only 1 out
slow grounder to Orlando, Cedeno to third, pitcher to bat L vs L
please get him out Randy
crap - Duke singles past Orlando :/ Cedeno scores, Pirates 3-0
That inning looked bad live, did it look any better on TV?
flyball gets him out of it, but the damage is done.
get 2 runs back here
Nic, that looked bad on my computer
Manny with a hard out to right
another hard out, Kemp lines to center
It worked last night, so...
Scuffle scuffle scuffle...
yeesh Casey Ks swinging. We weren't very patient that inning
wow nice catch by Matty on a long ball hit by LaRoche
Randy's not fooling very foolable hitters
oh Randy, that wasnt a strike
throw one now
double for Doumit
I wonder when James McDonald gets up
Lastings helps us out with his own impatience and flies out easily to Matty
I'm a little jealous of the giants offense right now.
please start taking against this guy
our boy Garret Atkins errors to help the Giants jump to their own 3-0 lead
Zach Duke is perfect through 3
ZACH DUKE HAS A PERFECT GAME GOING. TELL A FRIEND.
It's a good thing it's blanket give away night here at the stadium because the dodgers are putting the crowd to sleep.
*does the scuffle shuffle*
Rox score, 3-1 vaGiants
Why are the Dodgers losing if i'm not watching the game?
because i'm watching :/
Matty with the rip, time to get him in!
I thought you were going to shut down your eyes!
Bison doubles, beard triples...not too shabby, right?
Casey with the triple, his 6th?!
Loretta ripped one, but Milledge somehow caught it. Casey scores anyway. 1 run game!
hehe I did but I couldnt take it anymore - I had to watch the boys in blue!
Meanwhile it's SF 5, Col 1. I'm watching that game, maybe i'm a lucky charm for the bad guys.
The Rockies can't do anything well tonight, which is good for the Dodgers.
haha Vin is calling Randy's good curve "a soap bubble"
@Fred's Brim such a promise is the same as to promise not to breathe anymore
whew! Pearce hits one to the wall in center and Dodger Stadium holds another one. Randy through 6 innings
@karina - so true!
SF 7, COL 1 and the bad guys are still batting, 2 outs
Aren't they both bad guys?
hahahahahahahahaha Fanerman. You've got a point there, i guess the Giants are evil nasty guys and the Rockies are just bad.
I figured the Rockies were the "less bad" guys =).
wow *re-mutes GBA*
I can't believe we're making Zach Duke look like a stud here, but on the other hand every dog has his day.
Pirates 3, Dodgers 2 going to the stretch.
That lady singing god bless America sounded like she had a sinus infection...where do they find these people?
I'm totally in favor of the Giants winning their series against the Rockies, and just keeping it close enough to tantalize the Giants and annoy / bother the Rockies
@GLG: sinusinfectedgodblessamericasingers.com
yeah that was rough
They either need to hire someone that can actually carry a tune to sing the song every game or abandon the whole thing. I think it's cool they are doing it but I have been to 12 games this year and I can only think of 5 times that the singer was any good. They even had a dude with a saxaphone do it one time
they can't lay of that low breaking ball, and the ump is calling the ones that are even remotely close
There's no offense here. Where's the offense?
I think that hit pierced a hole in the fabric of space and time just because it was so improbable.
Sweet Loretta! Get back home!
we could
use a timely hit here
i don't have a good feeling about this game.
But at least the Rox are getting squished!
Hey FB,
Sorry to leave you to do the heavy lifting tonight.
I'm still behind on the DVR.
Ethier rocking the scraggly beard.
@glg 8:53: Agree, they should drop GBA altogether. I'm sure Steinberg will become even enamored with GBA again during the playoffs, esp watching the Yankees play it at each postseason game (and the Yankees will probably go deep in the postseason too). Steinberg doesn't strike me as the type of guy to question his own decisions after the fact. I think he thinks pretty highly of his own decisions.
As for the guy with the saxophone, I thought Kenny G was done performing.
Still catching up. Loney pinch hitting.
Hang a backwards K for Broxton.
Loney grounds out. Is this what Sax was talking about?
okay, remember that timely hit I had asked for?
dammit manny
kempy kempy kempy!
delivering where manny could not!!!
BISON!!!!!!
Go Big Jim!
darn it, that would have been a great time for THome to get a hit.
Oh well, at least it's tied! 3-3
SF up 10-2, top 8
So for those of you watching, how key was the Thome out? Did he almost have a hit?
@Sax - Very close to a hit. Line drive up the middle that Cedeno smothered.
Now I know where I heard Hanrahan's name. He was the guy that won a game a month after he pitched in it and was with another team.
The later this goes, the more eclectic tomorrow's lineup will be.
Magic number is 13. Let's hope it drops to 12 sometime before midnight.
@Josh - What about after midnight?
Manny grounding out to LaRoche makes me very, very sad.
Mr. LASF: That's fine too, but I needs my sleep!
I'm falling asleepasf;af;dkas
If jp was this clutch when he first started I never would have hated him.
The bench suites Pierre. Unfortunately, Pierre does not suite the bench.
O-Dog Fail.
Dammit! O-Dawg does that EVERY TIME there's someone at third with 1 out.
THIS IS GETTING RI-GODDAMN-DICULOUS
Leave Juan in and we may eventually win this.
He should have just kept on running home.
AAUGH
You win it.
No, YOU win it.
KCAL better cut straight to the weather when the Dodgers win this game!
This game is made of fail.
I think Belly just said "Ah forget it, I need some sleep".
PGT up yet?
It took them 9 innings to score 3. No way they're scoring 2 in one.
" Mr. LA Sports Fan said...
I think Belly just said 'Ah forget it, I need some sleep'."
I think he's been asleep this whole time.
Dr. Geek - I think it was Blake who was already asleep.
It was almost like Vin went "4-3...Pirates!?"
If they are going to lose, they could at least do it at a respectable hour.
If Bootcheck gets the save, then we really deserve this loss.
He got his bootie checked.
oh shit, please tell me it isn't a dodger who is injured
Hang on to your hats. Russ is bunting again.
Oh, thank goodness, Martin's bunting.
I tried to make that as deadpan as possible.
It isn't, Sax. Raffy's line drive hit Bootcheck in the hip.
what was the injury delay, guys? I'm stuck on gameday access only here (turkish prison)
@Josh S, thanks.
Just got my bread and water for the week, too! Whoo hoo!
These bunt attempts are pa-thetic.
Yes, two strikes, that means no bunting.
Well then.
That thing just carried. Almost for Martin.
I can't take this anymore. I'm going to bed.
Man, I should get a blanket for sticking with this game.
Oh well, at least tomorrow I'm getting a bobblehead to commemorate the moment that Manny Ramirez exhausted all of his remaining baseball mojo in one swing against an irrelevant opponent.
DRE!!!!!!!!
THANK JEEBUS!!!!!
THANK THE GOOD LORD I HAVE A TV IN MY BEDROOM
And I just left. Damn you dodgers.
BOOOOOM
Oh my God, Nic! That sucks!
ON DONNER
ON BLITZEN
ANDRE
And the magic number drops along with the hearts of the Pirates.
Wow
DREDAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damn my little brother needing to go to school in the morning. What the he'll do you learn in the fifth grade anyways.
Post-Game Thread is up. Sorry for the delay!
hehe those humpin wolves still make me laugh
