Post-Game 144 Thread: Giants in for a Penny, Dodgers in for a Pounding

GIANTS 7, DODGERS 2

The Dodgers won this series but couldn't give their fans what they wanted most: A well-deserved shellacking of Brad Penny. Instead, the rotund starlet-dating Oklahoman found further refuge in the NL, holding the Dodgers to five hits and two runs over seven innings. Chad Billingsley threw another worrisome four innings, allowing three runs (two on a Juan Uribe two-run homer) while striking out six. Joe Torre yanked him after only 70 pitches. As Vin said, the Billingsley story will not be lost in the shuffle.

The good news? Russell Martin hit his second multi-run homer in as many games, and the Padres beat the Rockies, 7-3. The Dodgers' official magic number drops to 16, and the Pirates come to town tomorrow. See you then!

Tony Shalhoub failed me.

Our plan was to give the confidence to set them up for a series sweep of the rox, yeah that's right.

With that being said I now consider a Bills start a loss
until he proves me otherwise. That boy ain't right.

Some moron on DodgerTalk wants to kick Bills off the team.

@Mr LA SF: Is Plaschke calling into DodgerTalk again?

No way, I chock this loss up to the power that is Brad Penny. He's awesome! Do you hear that, Brian Sabean? AWESOME. You've gotta bring him back next year, maybe for a seven-year, Zito-like deal. Do it! Do it! Doooooo ittttttt

The Dodgers can't win! They have no ace! It's physically impossible to win without an ace!

Careful Sax, Ned might be reading

Steve Sax said...

NicJ, Ned would only be interested in Brad Penny if he was retired for two years.

In all seriousness, I think Penny was one of those guys that McCourt decided was not good for the team (see: Lowe, Bradley, etc.). He'll never be a Dodger again.

I have this sudden urge to build my empire and conquer the world.

Will you guys start calling me "my lord"?

Here's what I think I missed:

Karina wants us to grow or keep moustaches. [What are we, the Cardinals squad?]

Karina also recommends that the ladies wear nor pants.

We hate Uribe.

Tony Shaloub = Fail

Fred's Brim and Karina jinxed us by actually watching a game.

And oh yeah, we lost to Bad Penny but took the series, and took the road trip 4-6 (just like the last road trip, if I recall). Not too Xabi.

Cards were codswalloped, thus swept by the chopheads.

Ichiro gets hit #200 on the year, and props to him for his greatness and class.

Pods actually score more runs than the opposing team, which happened to be the Rox, so our magic number shrinks like George Costanza in a cold swimming pool.

For us, it's on to the Somalian Seafaring Profiteers. Please don't turn in to Cy Young, Nolan Ryan, and Bob Gibson, you pitchers.

Back in town Tuesday night, just in time to get out to the Yard for Wednesday's day game. Anyone else out there that day?

It's obvious that the team suffered from the absence of DB and me. Had we just been around to make our insightful and poignant comments, the Dodgers would have rocked Penny's world.

This loss does not bother me as much as losing to the Reds or Pods. In fact, I hope it gives the Gnats confidence going into their series with the Rox.

Hurry back, DB. Sorry I can't go to the game Wednesday.

Josh S. said...

DB: I just scored two tix for Wednesday's game thanks to Sax's Miller Lite code that he posted way back when. (Thanks Sax!) I'll be out at the yard with my bro-in-law in Loge 168.

Roll call! RB in the heezy! I'll crack a Bud Fat from the hotel mini bar in your honor.

What time does Short Stop open on Wednesdays? 6am or 7?

Kyle Baker said...

Josh S also in the heezy! My boss actually snagged the tickets for Wednesday (makes taking off work a tad easier!) so not sure where I be at, but I'll post the stats closer to then.

Technically speaking, we're flying home earlier than normal so we can make the game the next day. Devotion!

Is Margaret moving in on Helen's turf?

@DB, I have had my my eyes sewn shut until sometime in mid-November. karina, I expect the same commitment out of you...

Steve Sax said...

@Dusty, I just took care of Margaret. Mega Millions spam, wonderful.

karina said...

@Dusty Baker actually i made that comment because you inspired me, you complained you didn't know what was trendy, remember? the guy with the 80's haircut?. It was pure "public service" and i don't you want to do anything with your appearance, that's your prerogative gentlemen! (and i like you just the way you are)

About the no pants trend, it's awful and i promise i won't wear that (i don't care what other ladies wear either but the less no pants i see, the better).

karina said...

@Fred's Brim i won't promise that though i could promise to turn off the tv in the minute of a pitching meltdown or they get behind in the score. I'm a graphic designer and i need my eyes to work!

Don't worry, on early October venezuelan winter baseball starts and therefore you'll lose me on occasion. I also want my eyes for my early November birthday.

@Steve Sax what do you prefer: Lord Steve, Lord Sax, Lord Steve Sax? Lord Sax has a certaing ring, you know...

DB,
I know for a fact that the Shortstop opens at 11 am for the "Businessmen's Special" games.

I went twice last year for the mid-week day games.

Kyle Baker said...

11am?? That's practically game time! I'll need a stronger foundation than that.
