SoSG's Initial Thoughts On The Dodgers This Post-Season

Our press room is working overtime to get you the up-to-the minute analysis and insightful commentary on the Dodgers' postseason play, consistent with the caliber of material you've come to expect from Sons of Steve Garvey.

That, or we're still hung over from Saturday night's clinching, and desperately trying to get the champagne stains out of our clothes (sort of like that panicked adrenaline-fueled rush before your girlfriend is about to show up and you've just noticed a bad albeit damning smear of lipstick on the collar of your dress shirt after a office holiday party gone awok (not that this has ever happened to us)). Either way, we have content coming, true believers.

As an opening salvo, might we direct you over to Yahoo! Sports' Big League Stew, which recently asked Orel and I to pen our thoughts on how the Dodgers will do in the postseason, based on their 2009 body of work as an application for the playoffs. There's a lot to our full application, but we'll excerpt this piece as a teaser:

Personal statement: Postseason admission for the Dodgers is a no-brainer; we're basically the kids who don't try all that hard but show up every day — at least those of us who haven't been suspended — turning in a solid performance on the oral report and final exam and at the football state championships. There's no real reason why we should be top of the class, not with a star who's only played two-thirds of the season and a solid but not stratospheric supporting cast. But we've plugged along, quietly and methodically working our way to the best GPA of our class despite a late bout of senioritis. You may hate us because we're Hollywood, or because our success seems effortless or because our manager is a former Yankee, but the truth is, with over three million in attendance (again), there are many more who love us.

Orel and I don't team up for posts all that often (probably because the pseudonyms get us totally confused and we can't tell what name to address each other), so it's an interesting combination of sarcastic perspectives. And thanks, 'Duk, for the opportunity to submit the Dodgers' application.

Go Dodgers!
