What, no Dodger game? No Rockies game at which we can channel our jeers? Alas, all we are left to watch is a Giants game in Arizona, featuring Barry Zito (10-12, 3.94) vs. Doug Davis (7-13, 4.01).
With yesterday's Timmah-tutoring, Lincecum-losing setback, the Giants are now 4.5 games behind the Rockies with 13 games to play, and the Marlins only a half-game behind the Giants (and the Braves, who play the Mets at 4p PT, only one game behind the Giants). As such, San Francisco should be hearing a lot of footsteps as they suit up for tonight's game. And Brad Penny, Pablo Sandoval, and Bengie Molina are all hoping it's the team caterer.
The only other NL-relevant game worth tracking this afternoon is the Cardinals @ Astros (Kyle Lohse vs. Wandy Rodriguez), at 5p, but I'm not going to start weighing in on the other divisional leaders' races until we get deeper in the season. Over in the AL, the only pennant-race-relevant game is the Twins @ White Sox (Nick Blackburn vs. newbie Daniel Hudson), at 5.11p; the Twins have almost been eliminated from wild card contention but are only three games back from the Tigers in the AL Central.
Snark away, SoSGers!

I just flipped over to the main page with the intention to make some shit-ass remark about wanting to watch the scoreboard. And the fine people of SoSG were way ahead of me in making that dream come true. Looks like another perfect (off) day.
Oh the Snark has such teeth, dear
And he shows them, pearly white.
Go Twinkies! Although if they make the playoffs, their time there will be short-lived.
One of the major headlines of the evening on MLB website:
"There isn't much that Kemp can't do for Dodgers"
The way any Twinkies would be short-lived around KFP, B. Molina, and Bad Penny.
I will be going to the Burbank Central Library today, where Ross Porter will be hosting a panel discussion on the Dodgers/Giants rivalry. If anyone's interested, here's some more info.
@rbnlaw,
Here's hoping the snakes twist The Knife on the Giants tonight.
I'll second that emotion, Mr. C
I was in England in 1982 when Joe Morgan kept us out of the playoffs.
Every time we can clinch against the Gnats or see them eliminated from the post-season is like manna from heaven.
I heartily endorse all jabs (and fierces) at Penny.
Arsenal were mid-table that year, too.
Braves all over Mets early.
Braves now up 11-1. Little League rules - call the game and get everyone a snowcone.
The Mets are rolling over for Atlanta. We could have a 3 way tie for second in the wildcard race tonight [fingers crossed]
Magic postseason number would be 2, then?
@Dusty - The entire Mets team is a little league team.
Is that why David Wright's helmet looks so big on him? Does he just need to grow into it? Is it a hand-me-down from his older brother's league?
Cards already up 3-0 over Houston. Not enough bad guys are losing for my taste.
Astros have had a bad day, so take it easy on them okay, Cards?
@Dusty - Just look at this photo.

@Dusty,
Wait, I can't keep track.
Do we want St. Louis to win or lose? If the Cards finish in the 2nd (or 1st) slot, we play the Phils.
It's hard to keep track. Might we want to play Phils first anyway?
I don't even know any more.
Hah! Nice on, MLASF. Can I order package C that includes 16 wallet-sized photos of that one?
Cards up 5-1 now.
But the Astros with they had some Colt 45 to help them forget.
Braves 11, Mets 3 (T6)
Cards 5, 'Stros 1 (T3)
Twins 2, White Sox 0 (B2)
Giants-Snakes, t-minus 1 hour
Love the Mack The Knife references, guys!
^ Sax, there's an error in that comment. You didn't employ a derisive nickname for Gnats.
Feel the hate, brother, feel it!
Snoopy says, "Feel the hate! kill Kill KILL!!!"
Your hate can make you powerful.
Anaheim Angels of Anaheim up 2-0 early on Yank-mes.
D-bags up 2-1 on Gnats in the third on a Mark Reynolds HR.
@Dusty, you're right, I went easy on the Giants hate. But that's because as a wise man said, "fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate...leads to suffering."
I don't want to suffer.
On theother hand, maybe it's the Giants who will be suffering! Wait a minute, that changes everything here.
On Angels home broadcasts, why do they always show the inside of the Angels team store? And the commentator talks over the shot and acts like it's breaking news. Every broadcast this happens.
Giants still down 2-1 btw, and AZ has a runner on with none out in the third.
Breaking news, we actually sold two rally monkeys today, film at 11
It was a tiny, frog of a man who lived by himself amongst snakes and mud, so I'm not sure one could say that philosophy ever paid off for him.
^ And I don't want to see that happen to you, Sax.
SOMEBODY BOUGHT A FREAKING FITTED CAP! Get the widow on the set!
Red Sox let KC score 11 on them so far tonight? They were way ahead and had the game under control until something happened.
Is there something wrong with fitted caps? I don't keep up with the latest trends.
Fanerman-
Naw, that wasn't what I was meaning to say. We were goofing about the non-newsworthiness of the "live" cut to the Angels store. So read that as sarcasm not as a take on fitted hats.
Frisco up 4-2 but D-bags threatening w/ two men on one out in bottom 5th.
4-4 and D'bags still threatening more.
Yanke-mes lose!
Frisco up 5-4 in bottom 8th.
Giants sill up 5-4. Uribe is really annoying.
By the way, after a busy day, i've been staring the puzzle for hours and i haven't been aware of another new content at SoSG but the puzzle. Sigh.
Final score 5-4.
