Off-Day Puzzle #17: LA Logo

Here's today's puzzle:

Hint #1 (11:22 am): If you've figured out the verse, it speaks the truth. Literally.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Puzzle Rules: The solution to the puzzle is a current Dodger. Comment freely in the thread, but if you have the solution, please don't give it away to everyone in the comments section. Instead, do the following:

  • Email us the first and last name of the player, along with your reasoning. Submitted answers without the reasoning, or those submitted with the incorrect reasoning, will count for participation only, even if the answer itself is correct. And please include your screen name somewhere in the email; and
  • Post a comment simply saying you have emailed your solution attempt. We may not be able to reply to your original email promptly, so please be patient and check back on the comment thread for the latest news; we may confirm correct answers there.

You have until midnight PT tonight to submit your answer. Answer will be posted tomorrow morning. Good luck!

I woke up early because I remembered there was a puzzle today! But I'm going to have to think hard about this one.

All i see is BLOOD.

Eric Karros said...

Well done Josh! I know Lucas was really the one who figured it out, but I'll still count it:

1. Josh S.

Josh S. said...

Crap, was it that obvious?

Eric Karros said...

Yikes Karina...I knew you were a born assassin.

Answer sent.

karina said...

Eric, i think the Assassins' Circle was a training similar to the Ben Stiller character in Zoolander, It's ok, you all are safe!

Eric Karros said...

Good work LL Cool L:

1. Josh S (Lucas)
2. LL Cool L

rbnlaw said...

Is it that easy, or ar those guys that smart?

Either way, I have to find time today.

LLCoolL said...

Phew. Guess I'll take the rest of the day off.

Steve K said...

Woo hoo! I now get the rest of the day off, too!

Having unraveled the "poem" (which seems to stop in the middle), I have no idea what to do with it. One or two possible clues don't actually seem to indicate anything useful at all.

rbnlaw said...

I'm with berko on this.

Eric Karros said...

J steve is in:

1. Josh S (Lucas)
2. Ll Cool l
3. J Steve

Eric Karros said...

I'll post a hint once I get back to the office, hopefully within an hour or so. I don't think this one's too bad though...

OK, I got it.

Real answer sent. The first was just a ploy that didn't work as neebs sent an answer.

drewdez said...

Answer (finally) in!

ubragg said...

Man, I feel like I'm really going to kick myself on this one. Still stumped. Any more hints coming, or am I on my own from here on out?

MR.F said...

Answer sent!

MR.F said...

Josh S's first name is Lucas?

Neeebs (The Original) said...

@fanerman:

Josh's Avatar is named "Lucas"

aka the newborn

Josh S. said...

Nope. Josh S.'s first name is Josh, but EK correctly deduced that my 3-week-old son Lucas fed me the answer to the puzzle.

Eric Karros said...

I'm still tied up but will check answers in a bit. Maybe a hint too but not for awhile as don't have access. Can't believe ubragg's stumped...

QuadSevens said...

I think if there were 4 more steps for this puzzle I might be able to solve it. =)

Still stumped as well.

ubragg said...

Well, I'm glad to hear I'm in good company, Quad!

Nostradamus said...

@Ubragg, Quad

It's funny how differently people are wired. Some of the puzzles come really easily, and some are an utter mystery, but it's never quite the same way from person to person.

QuadSevens said...

New answer sent.

You are exactly right Mr. Customer. Some puzzles just kill me, then I see the answer and can't believe that I didn't solve it.

MR.F said...

Ah. Thanks Neeebs. Lucas, Dodger fan. Maybe he can be friends with Dreson!

QuadSevens said...

Third time's the charm! Answer is sent for real this time.

Steve Sax said...

even the ubragg can have an off-day

Alas 10 answers thusfar prob means no more hints...

Eric Karros said...

Quad you are #11!

Eric Karros said...

Sax - yes, the trifecta of sustained dominance - Tiger, Federer, and UBragg - seem to be faltering in unison.

rbnlaw said...

Damn your quick mind, neeebs.

ubragg said...

Dang, this is killing me... I should be able to focus on it a lot better after work when I get home. Not giving up yet.

ubragg said...

And this is definitely the first time I've ever been compared to Tiger and Federer, EK. ;)

rbnlaw said...

Ubragg,
First go back to your puzzle and rearrange the batter order so that the players go from earliest to most recent.
Next, take out all Dodgers who played for hated rivals.
Then, replay the game so that the final score is not a tie.
Finally, throw away that puzzle because it will only lead you to talk to yourself and distance you from those you love until you find yourself wandering the loge section at the stadium with your used scroebook in hand, transistor radio pressed to your ear, muttering expletives about Irish Meusel.

Not that anything like that happened to me or anything.

Seriously, you'll get this.

Nostradamus said...

Wow, it sounds like rbnlaw may be carrying around a little pent-up frustration from the last PCS episode.

Nostradamus said...

For the record, any puzzle that does not lead to muttering under your breath like a delusional maniac is just not good enough.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

@RBN:

Quick mind,eh? You should have read my first failed response. Of course, I like the failed response a whole lot better than the winning response.

Eric Karros said...

Where's bwrightson?

Eric Karros said...

Over 4 hrs of inactivity leads me to believe nobody's working on this anymore.

Btw I just read thru the comments and based on yours Berko I don't think you have the poem totally correct.

Well I'm off to bed, I'll check email in morning. Good luck to anyone who may still be working on it.

Matt said...

Just got home from the field and saw the puzzle. "Answer" sent.

ubragg said...

Home from work now and giving it my full attention.

LOL @rbn's advice :)

ubragg said...

EK, you sure go to bed early. Now I understand why the puzzles come out at 7 am!

ubragg said...

I got it!! Just a couple hours to spare.

My quest for getting them all for the whole season is still alive...

rbnlaw said...

I knew you'd take it the right way, ubragg.
You were very helpful when I was tackling your puzzle; I just ran out of waking hours.

Good job keeping the streak alive, Tiger.

ubragg said...

Thanks rbn. I promise that if I ever have occasion to write another puzzle here again, it will be a little less involved. :)
