Hiroki Kuroda (7-6, 3.86) vs. Livan Hernandez (8-11, 5.22).
DODGERS' MAGIC NUMBERS: 4 (playoffs), 7 (division)
COMMENTS: Irie! Lively up yourself as the Dodgers get ready to roll the Nattys like a big fattie. Kuroda continues to shake off the effects of that nasty knock to the noggin and whip himself into playoff shape while Hernandez, released by the Mets last month, is finding a home with the bottom-feedingest group of rude boys in the majors. As for the Rockies? The harder they come, the harder they fall. What I say now!

Lucas is ready to roll over those clowns in Washington. What. a. bunch. of. clowns.
Livan, Livan likes his money
He makes a lot they say
Spends his days counting
In a garage by the motorway
Phils up 1-0 in the second inning of the first game of a doubleheader, against the Fish (whom you'd think would be trying here, but maybe not).
teek toc toe, we beat'em all in a row!
Rock me Hiroki, rock me Broxton
Talk of the country, soooo
Ring the alarm, another batter's dying, woooah-haaay!
Furcal, SS
Ethier, RF
Manny, LF
Kemp, CF
Loney, 1B
Blake, 3B
Belliard, 2B
Martin, C
Kuroda, P
Livan was born a pauper to a pawn
on Christmas Day, when the New York Times said "God id Dead?"
He shall be Livan.
It's only appropriate that JuanLove lay down the lineup today after the GT theme.
@Dusty, JuanLove: True true. Thanks JL for the lineup, thanks Dusty for ceding it.
Phils up 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth. These Fish have no backbone, and they've got a whole 'nother game to play after this...
I can't wait until 4p.
Agree, Sax, I'm seriously not sure how I'm going to make it until 4PM PT.
I keep hitting FF but it turns out my life is in real time, so I can't Tivo ahead to skip the commercials (work).
@Dusty: Wait a minute, commercials pay you to watch them (like work pays to to be here)? Sheee-oot, that changes everything!
Just tuned into kabc a little too early I guess. I was trying to figure out why Charlie Steiner was calling President Obama a sadist. I guess the pregame isn't for another 15 minutes or so.
Dusty, NicJ: what fields of work are you guys in, such that you can tune in at 3p to a game thread? I'm just curious, if you don't want to answer then that's cool too.
@Sax
"...These fish have no backbone..."
The Florida Jellyfish?
Is it 4 yet?
Audio Engineer at a recording studio. That and it's my day off.
Or secret agent, yeah that sounds cooler.
@ Sax-
Director, Government Relations in a LA County agency. The lobbyist part of that means information management when I'm not in Sacramento or DC, which means I'm always in front of a computer. Or two, as the case may be. I take my own to work, and have a mobile broadband card so I can pull in the audio and/or video for MLB games during the say. I listen to baseball games like others listen to music. I also am able to work from home a lot which takes my multi-tasking mastery to new levels.
It's 4 o'clock somewhere, RB.
AM 790 has some right wing drivel right up until the pre-game kicks in. I cannot listen to that station any other time than right when the game is about to kick in. I know it's the historic home of broadcasts, but I sure thought AM 980 was a better fit these last few years before they switch (or switched back) to 790.
Phiws up 6-0 now. Marlins are boned.
9-0. Filet o' Fish.
9-3. A little tartar sauce at the end.
They are just tiring the phillie offense out so they can make their attack in game two.
Turn down the Spanish mic please.
Is it going t be one of those games?
Doesn't kemp have a terrible avg in this park?
1 pitch - 1 out.
damn I thought we were on to something there. i didnt think Guzman was that mobile anymore
Epale, all! Glad to be able to join you today.
Unfortunately it's a Collins/Lyons telecast instead of Vin. Couldn't Vin just watch Gameday and broadcast from that?
Let's take it to these Natty Bumbler-o's.
ah Marquis Grissom is their 1st base coach. i liked him for us in 2002
TBLA via a Tweet lays an interesting stat on us:
"Dodgers are 26-8 when Furcal starts out a game on base."
howdy Orel!
i am getting the Nats coverage, featuring Rob Dibble :/ he has already criticized our starting rotation
That 1 pitch, 1 out comment seems like a long time ago.
How can we compete with the nationals rotation of......
Strasburg next year.
26 pitches ago!
strike 3, inning over, though
Whiff! How many pitches did Kuroda throw?
That took a while.
@Nic j "Audio Engineer at a recording studio"
few things are cooler than that.
26 pitches
at the time of the draft, I was scared they would bring him up just in time to face us while we were in a dogfight with the Rox and/or vaGiants in the last weeks of the season
yes, I am a Dodger fan
Hi FB! I had wondered where Dibble ended up. I wonder no longer.
15 strikes, 11 balls. Oh well, it's only one inning...get it out of the way and no harm done.
What up peeps?
End of one, no score.
Guzman is angry at us for stealing Belliard
"few things are cooler than that."
Nic impressing the lay-deez!
Who's the wise guy who said Guzman has no range left?
Gameday is blazing right now.
Remember when we were swept in wash last year?
What's up, Rbn? We probably have more people in this Game Thread than are at the game.
Time for a Belli-Yard shot.
Does anyone ever find themselves arguing balls/strikes based on the GameDay graphics?
*sigh*
I personally thought secret agent was cooler.
good job, Ronnie
Guy behind the plate is rockin' the collared-shirt-under-a-sweatshirt look. We might need a ruling from the Fashion Police on that.
No doubt, Orel.
Nice puzzle yesterday. Of course, any puzzle I can solve is a nice one.
J. Martin Koop?
I was at one of the losing games during the sweep last year...embarrassing.
Is there a team bet to see who can hit it to guzman the most?
@DB "Does anyone ever find themselves arguing balls/strikes based on the GameDay graphics?"
Rage Against the Machine!
Is Leave-On working that fast, or is Gameday ahead of the pace? Seems like a quick one so far.
Is the team growing beards?
Thanks, Rbn. It's a relief when you, as the puzzle maker, don't hear "I don't get it"...too much.
great pickup by Casey for the first out
@Nic "Is there a team bet to see who can hit it to guzman the most?"
Perhaps the Dodgers are playing Dugout Bingo.
Livan is working fast.
The KCAL camera angle makes the field look huge.
Collins & Lyons are complaining about being up so high.
The Bison roams!
"Collins & Lyons are complaining about being up so high."
kind of going against the Marley theme.
Matty is looking quite beardy these days
@ Orel
I think there's a Ghost in the Machine on some of those called strikes.
@Dusty Does anyone ever find themselves arguing balls/strikes based on the GameDay graphics?
it's news if the fight comes in verbal terms.
This is one of the those almost hopeless games. Sigh.
Will they play "Get Up, Stand Up" for 7th inning stretch?
@Nic j "kind of going against the Marley theme."
very well played, Sir.
Jeez, this thread is jammed pack. I have no room to make witty comments.
"This is one of the those almost hopeless games. Sigh."
KARINA! Did someone drop you a pessimism roofie?!?
Did the Chevy people see the Ford "man step" and go, "We are going to have a field day with this!"
Nice, Nic.
There's always room for smartassery, MLASF!
I love how a Saturday afternoon game will yield 108 GT comments, but schedule a game in the afternoon of a workday and you'll get 345 GT comments.
Is there a way to get that Dodgers Star Wars T-shirt without buying a ticket?
@Orel - What I find funny about that is Ford sponsors the FOX NFL Sunday pregame show.
Haha they made him get down from that step so hopelessly.
Procrastination is a strong force, Dusty.
@MLASF:
There's always room for MLASF.
And Jell-O
Guzman's not getting that one!
Jimmy Carter put on weight
@ Orel
"Procrastination is a strong force, Dusty."
Then the Force is strong in me...
Really, MLASF? I guess Howie Long just closes his eyes during those commercials.
Forkal in scoring position.
The hitting zone? What's is that a softball term, Collins?
Raffy doubles, go Blue!
Yeah, the Man Step thing is just *this* close to just say "You pansy-ass bitches."
The Dodger lineup is looking rather beardly. It would be funny if Casey shaved his off.
Guzman is getting ri-goddamn-diculous.
Steiner says we're 62-22 when we score first. It's not going to matter, though, if we strand Furcals' ass out there on second.
Man our risp avg is already horrible.
@Dusty i'm through a very hard day and a spectacular headache.
Howie says "man step" with barely contained contempt. Give that man an Oscar.
Sorry to hear it, Karina. May the Dodgers provide some relief.
@ Karina
Then watching this game may not be the best remedy for what ills ya. Or hanging out with this crew. ;-)
Karina can make even a headache sound positive.
Gotta love the opposite views expressed in the last comments Orel and I made.
I defer to him.
@rbnlaw 4:48p: Love the "always room for Jello" comment. Remember when Kevin and Bean had Ralph say that line every frickin' day for like a year? Good times.
Come on, Manny.
MANNY!!! We're on the board!
Manny RBI double down the third-base line! 1-0 Dodgers!
1-0 Dodgers! Manny RBI Double
You see, they were just waiting for me to join the GT.
2-out lightning!!
Now for some Loney magic.
@Sax.
back when they were funny sometimes. I haven't listened to them in over a year thanks to Adam Carolla, then satellite radio.
MAN-EEE!!! We score.
kempy nubs one, so all we get is one.
Mr LA SF, Loney magic will have to wait until next inning
unless he pulls off some sparkling defense, that is
Looks like Manny has tightened his dreads.
@rbn, you actually PAY for radio? I don't know anyone who does that. Interesting.
What was the thinking there, I'm curious? I mean, I hate commercials, but I don't think I'd pay for satellite radio. And given how poorly XM/Sirius stock has performed, I'm thinking I'm not the only one.
Orel, you're a lucky man to be watching this game
Manny got his dreads fix up in conjunction with this GT theme.
KKKKuroda
Day off, Sax. But it means I'll be working this weekend.
XM/Sirius has MLB Homeplate (baseball talk radio) and every damned game that ever happens, live. Enough said. Sometimes I sit in my car and listen.
[And no, I don't do so while watching kids come out for recess, or with a shotgun on my lap.]
eeep
Wow, the rare non-throwing error by Furcal.
I knew furcal was gonna goof that one, it's always the easy ones.
I'm gonna hafta get going now. If the Dodgers lose, you can blame me. Or Furcal. Whoever.
damn Raffy
Wow, that was crushed by Dunn. 2-1 Nats.
ugh that was a meatball
Damn furcal
Blame Furcal.
Well that inning sucked.
Don't worry. King James is gonna show he's better than that Dunn guy.
A bold call by Karina.
But ultimately correct! King James singles!
It's the third inning gentlemen, can you say gentler things?. It's a rough game, not an impossible one.
By the way, Orel and Dusty, thanks for the get well wishes.
@Sax.
I can't find much I like on terrestrial radio these days. Yes, no commercials are worth it. DB is right, MLB homeplate is the shnizzle along with about 5 rock stations I rotate through regularly.
As for the stock, I bought 200 shares when it was dirt cheap on the day they announced the refinancing of their debt. I've made about $140 so far.
I completely forgot the game had started!
I can say Gentile things. Who wants bacon?
Back to back singles; something's cooking.
Single by the Real Beard!
Here comes the game tying run.
More singles than Speed Dating!
attaboy Bellitoo! tell Guzman to cram it!
Will the Real Beard please stand up, please stand up, please stand up?
the IBB to Russ to get to Hiro!
Belli in the Yard with the RBI.
RANCHO ARDIENDO...for Kuroda. Don't swing, Hiroki!
Gotta check out peeps. Soccer practice beckons my rugrats. I'll be watching at the gym whilst they toil.
Nats' pitching coach is named McCatty. Meow!
agreed Orel - take 6 pitches and see what happens!
RANCHO CUCAMONGA!!
Had to add that for DB before I flee.
I think it is because i put on my favorite Dodgers shirt
I love how Rbnlaw is always driving his kids to sports activities :)
If Kuroda hits a grand slam, does he flip his bat?
Never mind.
Josh S. will be like Rbnlaw in a few years.
Wow, how nice to see Raffy deliver in the clutch! 4-2 Dodgers!
yay Raffy!
i am sorry for cursing you earlier!
By the way, I like "Bellitoo," FB.
Ethier ground-out RBI. 5-2 Dodgers.
Dre gets Russ in with a slow grounder
5-2 good guys!
That;s what i call the power of redemption.
Redemption Song, indeed.
Bison RBI #2! 6-2 Dodgers!
Nice, DB. Credit to Karina for forecasting sunny skies.
Kemp comes through!
Funny, Loney appears clean-shaven.
Loney RBI XBH! 8-2 good guys!
score til they bleed!
Does Elias keep beard vs. non-beard stats?
JLo continues his resurgence! And his away form.
FJL and CBB with their 2nd ABs this inning
Collins & Lyons seem more comfortable together.
"Don't worry. King James is gonna show he's better than that Dunn guy."
9/22/2009 5:08 PM
Well done, King James. That's why you're a royal!
@DB "Does Elias keep beard vs. non-beard stats?"
Ha, nice. I for one would like to know James Loney's NBBABIP.
Boy did I miss an inning.
If we load the bases again (high probability), we should call it Three Little Birds instead of Rancho Ardiendo (for this game only).
@Orel awwwww, thanks, but i'm not playing , i'm just sending positive vibes so they win.
@Dusty Baker how about Tres Pajaritos?
@ karina
Tres Pajaritos! Perfect.
NBBABIP
Hmmm. Something about bearding into a double play?
Alright game over, everyone just lay down bunts and we can end this game in 2 1/2 hours.

O dog is such a great guy.
Manny's never yanked one out of the Yard in Washington (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/event_hr.cgi?n1=ramirma02&t=b). Tomorrow would be a good time to do so. Not today because we need to bank some run karma.
This is very unscientific, but there's a bounce in Furcal's step which suggests he's feeling pretty chipper.
MVP!
Kidding.
that's why you look a runner back
Willie Harris: When you're down by six, you might not want to get in a rundown between third and home.
Great Lucas picture, Josh! You realize we're going to track his growth via the evolution of his Dodger clothing.
Orel, I think that science is air tight.
Josh, can you do a time lapse photography thing of Luke's entire childhood expressed through his lil dodger togs?
SD already tied on a couple in Colorado.
I wish I'd already tied on a couple.
@Dusty
It's nearly 6! I expected you to be more punctual with your alcohol consumption.
Mr. C-
Still at work. Times is hard. Still have the long jaunt from mid-town to Pasadena to go, too. I'll struggle through...the 8 runs has given me an extra, Furcal-like spring in my step.
heh Hiro doesnt like facing Dunn does he?
4 straight balls?
Casey turns two!
