Manny in the All-Star Hunt

From Michael Becker at the Press-Enterprise blog:

Suspended outfielder Manny Ramirez has received 442,763 fan votes for the 2009 All-Star game, good for fourth among NL outfielders. The top three vote getters are automatically chosen, with each team's manager rounding out the rest of the roster.

Additionally, the final roster spot will be voted on by the fans. [...]

Orlando Hudson ranks third among NL second basemen with 314,103 votes. Russell Martin ranks fourth among NL catchers (261,917 votes).

Will baseball fans play a big practical joke, à la the Mets Rickroll, and vote Manny an All-Star? If so, it would create yet another All-Star-related headache for Bud Selig, who might be tempted to cancel the All-Star Game for good.

Among serious Dodger candidates, Orlando Hudson and Chad Billingsley lead the pack. It will be interesting to see if the red-hot Juan Pierre gets consideration even after playing only sparingly over the first month of the season. A strong case could be made for Jonathan Broxton as well.

Get out there and vote!

I filled out a stack of ballots at each game I've been to this year. I voted for all the Dodgers including Manny on each ballot. I even voted for Manny for the HR Derby.

Pierre would have to get some serious write-in votes since he isn't on the physical ballots in stadiums.

We gotta vote in Manny.

I mean, the vote is fixed anyway by the mlb gods, but we sure as hell should try.

Pierre can still get the final roster spot vote, you don't neccesarily have to be on the opening day roster to be eligible in that vote.

Crap, Milwaukee fans are really stuffing the ballots.
