Randy Wolf (1-1, 2.95, 33+ yrs) vs Jamie Moyer (3-2, 7.26, 46+ yrs).
COMMENTS: I'm not going to riff on Orel's brilliant "that's good / that's bad" Simpsons routine from yesterday, despite the fact that it was endless fun in a spirited GameThread, mostly because all of the things I'd say about last night's game would be followed with "That's bad." Like walking former Giant Pedro Feliz four times. (That's bad.) Or starting the game off with a run and three base hits, only to go the rest of the game with only two more runs, wasting the potential of an 11-hit night. (That's bad.) Or having Russell Martin throw the ball back to his pitcher while Jayson Werth is standing about twenty feet from home plate. (That's bad.) Or having Juan Pierre--whose 1-for-5 night was bested (worsted?) by Rafael Furcal's 0-for-4 outing--make the final out for something like the twentieth game in a row since Manny was suspended (it's only been five games, but you get the idea).
I have looked forward to this six-game road trip as a first test of the Dodgers' mettle, and it's come at a particularly tough time with their best player suspended. But while the media is running around pointing to our 1-4 record sans Manny, I'm looking only at the 0-1 record on this road trip, knowing that a win today at Citizens Bank Park could do a lot to exorcise the demons of playoff losses past (the Dodgers are 0-7 in Philly dating back to last year). And, as we've said each time we've had two losses (to good results, obviously): The Dodgers have not lost three in a row all year. Let's go, Blue! I want to write "That's good" again.

Same thing as Berman, Neeebs. The ball didn't look like it was going out, and the outfielder played it like he could catch it. It never really looked like a homer, and it barely landed two rows into the stands.
For the record, any infield pop up should be accompanied with the adjective "tragic"
Dammit, Sax!
lets see kemp steal some more bags
Moyer's big weakness is the gopher ball. Other than his home town connections to Philly, he really shouldn't pitch there.
I love how when a multiple of 100 comes up, we all go nuts and forget the game. It's kind of like the wave at Dodger Stadium.
Oooh, now that I think about it, I may stop doing the 100 multiple thing.
The only thing is just one person does the 100 multiples.
It is NOT the wave, Sax. Don't ruin this for me.
Getting a comment in at any multiple of 100 is a game of skill. That's how I will always look at it.
Matthew Ryan Kemp - Striking fear in the heart of 46 year old pitchers everywhere.
Casey Blake is still smarting from the Brian Wilson tear-in-eye curse: he hasn't had an extra base hit since "the gesture."
The Dodgers are no longer afraid of 80 mph fastballs.
But his face is intimidating, Sax.I think Brian Wilson should be more careful with his mouth.
Blake singles. Looks like Wilson isn't getting to him.
Casey went out to get that one.
Awesome slide from Kemp!!!
God, great bunt from Wolf to set that up.
I think that should be a steal of home.
Sweet!
Here is a question - Do you bunt Wolf here?
Randy answered that question!!
There's a Matt Kemp steal for you!
I'm going to say yes, Alireza.
Matt Kemp: showcasing his five tools in less than a half of the game.
What the hell just happened there?
That should really count as a steal
This is more like it. We've finally awoken.
It was a great bunt, by the way.
AND Blake goes to second, setting the table for Beast Mode.
Did Kemp pull a Reggie Willits and keep running?
someone please explain how a sac bunt scores Kemp from second. Gameday is wildly lame in times like these
Wolf laid down a great bunt, and almost got himself a single. On the throw, Kemp kept coming from second and ended up sliding in just before the tag at home. Great headfirst slide.
And then Pierre pretended to get hit at the plate.
Beast Mode should bunt too.
How does someone hit JP with a pitch?
Well, that shouldn't hurt that much.
Maybe Moyer is not aware that Pierre is now "The Beast"
The ball didn't touch Pierre. But, whatever. Furcal pops up.
Great inning from the Dodgers.
please please, someone explain me
I withdraw my 100-multiple-game-equals-wave comment.
And here I was hoping for Furkey to hit for the cycle.
Sax, Kemp left the base in the nanosecond the ball got off the bat and then, it was sweet baserunning.
Sweet 5-spot.
And just FYI, I nail the comment multiples of 177. Like every time.
Kemp just kept running. That's all there is to it.
Why didn't BEAST MODE rush the mound after getting hit?
I explained it, Sax. I think.
Sax - They did explain. Wolf put down a Juan Pierre-esque bunt and almost got a single. Kemp was going on the play and kept running.
I would love to see a fight between Beast Mode and Moyer. It would be like a cockfight.
You can't wear a shirt "BEAST MODE" and not rush the mound after a HBP.
Alireza, Erin, et al--thanks for the explanation. Sorry, the gameday makes me the frustrated sometimes.
Sax - Probably because Beast Mode didn't want to have his ass kicked by Geriatric Mode, much like when Ventura Mode, a much bigger guy than Beast Mode, got whooped by Express Mode.
Sax, I understand. It's what I deal with every other night.
Love that divot in center.
I don't like them comparing Matt Kemp to Bernie Williams.
Steve, i understand you too.
Kemp made that play look effortlessly.
Raul gave that one a ride.
That will always be Ventura Mode's defining moment.
Why not, Erin? because Bernie Williams was/is a beloved yankee?
Random Thought, SORRY.
I have four bobbleheads in my office:
Greedo, Capt. Kirk (because Spock was sold out, Count Chocula, and James Loney
What does that say about me?
Exactly, Karina.
Erin - Complete agreement, though it shows how stupid they are.
Bernie was great, but he never had any of Kemp's tools. Especially that pop gun arm.
Yeah, in reality it's not just that he was a Yankee. I just really think Kemp has more than Williams ever had. It's just a matter if Kemp can get it all together and play well for as long as Williams did.
I almost went to see Bernie Williams play (guitar) a few weeks ago.
Bernie Williams was great but maybe i'm biased because i was conceived and raised by a great yankee fan.
Getting Pedro Feliz to K looking is impressive.
O-Dog doubles!
265!
O-Dawg comin' around. This is feeling like a "get well" game.
Berman doesn't really know how to read the ball off the bat, I guess.
That Hudson ball was obviously going to be a hit, but that seemed to surprise Berman.
And thanks, Sutcliffe, for telling us that the Dodgers aren't this great, but it's just that Moyer is that bad.
Yeah, Moyer had to know Hudson would eat that alive.
I have THREE bobble heads...Steve Garvey, Ron Cey and Pete Rose. What does that say about ME?
Yep, I'm the same age as Jaime Moyer.
I'm stuck with Gameday and radio, but the descriptions of Sutcliffe don't make me envious.
Sutcliffe is an ass.
Thankfully, ATT blacked out the ESPN broadcast.
I'm forced to watch Prime Ticket, but it's better than Boomer and the Bum.
Julie: It says that you were absent on Davey Lopes and Bill Russell days, and that you are conflicted by having a Pete Rose Bobble.
Ethier isn't showing us much.
And don't worry Julie. I'm a fellow 62'er.
Andre is a little flat.
Nice hit by Martin. Runners at the corners with one out, and they're pulling Moyer.
Yeah, ESPN 360's broadcast is blackedout in LA.
No slagging off Russ for pulling that. He did exactly what was necessary.
280!
281!
Loney getting all set up for another three-run homer
Or a GIDP, that is
The only bobblehead I owned looked like all the other bobbleheads, but it had Sandy Koufax's number.
Bought it at the stadium when I was 8 or 9 (about 39 years ago).
Don't have it anymore.
Bail bonds commercials on TV. Didn't used to have those.
Sax - Here's hoping. Happ, oddly, has much more success against RHB than LHB.
Orel - Sure they did. Always some nice, clean looking woman worried about her husband.
I give most of my bobble heads to my dad. He loves them. So far, "I" have a bobblehead of: Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, Luke Walton, Chris Mihm, Karl Malone, Cesar Izturis, Jeff Kent, Paul Lo Duca, Russell Martin, and Mickey Mouse.
Can I get a J.A. Happ for my iPhone?
How about a double steal to rub it back into the Phills' faces.
Hey, Bowa shaved the goatee.
Erin, going back to 5:24p--now i feel your gameday pain.
that's it, I'm going to the other side.
rbnlaw: that would make YOU older than every active player in baseball.
I've still got Jamie Moyer ahead of me. (He's napping now...)
Mr LASF, hopefully the Jeff Kent bobblehead isn't pissing the rest of the crew off
Sutcliffe knows nothing about this team. NOTHING.
I am James Loney
I hit a HR so now I will swing at every pitch
I heard the LoDuca bobblehead is much smaller these days.
except #5
300
300
300.
Loney with the RBI!
second time's the charm
Damn you, Sax.
Loney getting untracked.
Four RBI for Loney. That has to help the confidence.
Ja-ames Loney. Da da da da da.
Ja-ames Loney. Da da da da da.
Ok folks, I'm outta here at least for now -
Julie,
Thanks for reminding me. I'm also older than everyone on my softball team.
I still run for most of them.
Bases juiced for Casey "Suck it Brian Wilson" Blake
Have fun, EK.
Rancho Ardiendo for Blake.
313
Kemp walking, Loney hitting homers. This is role reversal day.
Steal home Russ!
Good baserunning from Martin to give us our seventh run on a foul pop-up. I'm loving this game so far.
Martin showing off his speed. Dodgers 7-Phillies 1
Another theft of home! 7-1 Dodgers!
Happ was living dangerously with those fastballs down the pipe.
Things older than Moyer:
America
Jupiter
Um, can't think of anything else.
We have created a group number-grabbing monsters!
The Phils aren't Phighting.
The guy on ESPN says he's surprised because Russell Martin doesn't have any speed. Has he paid any attention for the Dodgers in 3 seasons?
I don't like being alone in my hotel room during a rainstorm and seeing a trailer for a stupid horror movie.
You are not alone, you're watching the game and talking here.
Sutcliffe, Van Gundy, it's like ESPN doesn't know how to hire color guys.
I guess I shouldn't mention the movie 1408 then.
Thanks, DDS.
Reflecting on this season so far, I just wonder when exactly this whole hitting thing clicked for the O-Dog. He wasn't much in Toronto.
Hey, there's our liability in left field. Beast Mode, indeed.
Just how close was that to a homer?
O-Dog was a Dodger killer in AZ.
It wasn't that close. It was over Pierre's head, but it looked like he just didn't get a good read on the ball. I thought it was catchable.
Thanks, Karina.
Dodgers/Phils - the road to Game Thread 1000!
Pierre's defense makes me to miss Manny's defense. It's that bad.
Nicely done, Wolf. What's his pitch count?
Wow, Wolf did well to get out of that jam.
And I thought Wolf was finished. Way to hold.
Wolf still has another inning in him
Charlie Manuel said the success of the Phillies stealing is pretty much Davey Lopes's credit.
So he joins Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino on the list of Phillies who broke my heart.
At least, that's what Guillermo Celis said.
Think of it this way: Lopes is with Philly, but Bowa is with us.
ex-Giant Jack Taschner
Beast Mode!
Beast Mode!
Bowa is definitely more exciting.
A nice hit the other way off the bat of Juan Pierre. Please steal, Juan! Let's score some more!
Taschner has just allowed 2 runs in 19 career appearances against the Dodgers.
JP with a single, and a stolen base. I smell a steal cycle.
Dammit Orel.
Beast Steal!
That was funny, Beast.
There we go. Pierre slid over the bag and pulled it out of the ground. If it had come all the way out and he was left holding it two feet away, would he still be out if he were tagged? I mean, he would still be on the bag.
And Furcal back to his old ways with a groundout.
BEAST MODE!!!
And he steals third!
Do it, Juan. Show them we can do it, too.
Yes Pierre! Now he only needs home!
BEAST MODE
BEAST MODE is just doing this for fun now.
The O-Dog walks. He better steal so Andre doesn't GIDP
Erin, your theory of retaliation is coming true.
Berman seems to be sort of in love with this "Cindy" person he keeps throwing to for updates on other scores.
Oh I like his chances now.
Huddy has speed. Lets see a double.
363
Come on, Andre.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Tachner is pissing his pants.
Are we going for palindromic numbers in the comments now?
Wow. That pitch had a ton of movement.
Just watched this at the commercial break.
http://www.youtube.com:80/watch?v=R6H0i1RAdHk
Lets pile on.
Damn it, Andre.
Oh c'mon Ethier, what are you doing up there!?
Crap. I was really hoping for a steal of home.
rbnlaw, that's hilarious.
"In contrast, and despite the lack of legitimate evidence, I believe you to have been involved in a fair amount of homosexual activities."
Wolf has lost some velocity.
Mr. LASF is much more complex than that:
Jimmy Rollins was the heart and soul of the last Aguilas championship, 9 years ago. It was a team many analysts forecast as last in the standings and he literally carried the team on his shoulders. His performance was electric and fascinating.
Shane Victorino also played with Aguilas. The team didn't make the playoffs but watching him play was so extraordinary, i skipped classes just to see him play, along with Pete Orr. In fact, he's now a Philly because the Dodgers didn't protect him and he was taken by the Phillies on the rule V, so it was very hard in the last NLCS.
Randy - If the hook is getting over, why not throw it?
Thanks Erin. I blame my good friend in SF for that.
Wolf at 110+ pitches. Two out, 2-2 count.
Ibanez keeps fouling them off!
Nice, nice job from Wolf tonight. Eight strikeouts, one earned run over six innings.
Yoga Walk!
Namaste, Fanerman.
Okay, guys. I'm off to get some work in tonight. I hope the Dodgers can hold this lead.
Wolf has the munchies! Wonder what he's eating.
See ya, Erin.
#385
Go Troncoso!
It's been a great game
We need three innings of relief. Think we'll see Broxton? Hope not.
6 run lead. Lets just pray we don't see Guillermo Mota.
Ugh. Tron walks Ruiz.
That Randy Wolf strikes out so many guys throwing 89 is really impressive.
Furcal playing it safe on the potential DP.
Ramon Troncoso - Worm Killer.
I'm muting Collins/Lyons.
It's not speed, it's location and how you mix your stuff.
Its too bad Kuroda isn't healthy to throw at Victorino.
Good leather this inning! Six more outs to go!
Good inning, let's pour it on in the eighth
Impressive game for Loney.
Karina - I get that for a guy who pitches to contact and gets a lot of weak grounders and popups like Maddux, but Wolf has a flame thrower's K rate.
400!
Ok Slappy. A dunker into LF would be nice.
