Eric Stults (2-1, 5.50) vs. Doug Davis (2-3, 2.91).
COMMENTS: Fresh off of the euphoria of a four game slamdown on the division rival Padres, the Dodgers have rolled to a perfect 10*-0 home start to break the franchise record for consecutive home wins to start a season, tying the NL record in the process (with three other teams). It's going so well, we can start a lineup with four second-stringers and see three of them produce at the plate (the only one to go hitless, the 0-for-3 Mark Loretta, is still batting .391 on the year).
So what better way to jinx the streak than to have SoSG's own Alex Cora and Steve Sax show up to the Stadium in person? (Third base side, field level--please comment in the thread if you'll be at the game, and we can arrange a time to grab a beer, assuming they've restored wireless service to the Ravine.) Perhaps having a greater impact on the outcome of the game will be our starter, Stults, who got rocked in his last outing in SF (5 ER in 2.2IP, with 2BB and 1K). Stults will need to rebound well (kind of like that other LA team playing tonight in Game 1 of their own series). And I've always dug Davis get it?, who is coming off of a strong start of (0ER over 7IPs with 7Ks) pitched against the Cubs. Either Stults or Davis might have a slightly bigger impact on the outcome of tonight's game. But the guys who will be getting into Mark Reynolds' dome all night (ARI 3B Reynolds has 5HR but 26Ks and bats .268)? Yeah, that will be AC and me.
*Yes, I know I could have used a myriad of other references for the accompanying "perfect 10" picture. I'm trying to keep us somewhat respectable. For once.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 430 Newer› Newest»Kemp has really gotten some range in CF this year!
Is there a lefty in the d-backs' lineup? I haven't noticed any.
Stults still doing well with the pitch count (at least by comparison)
bynums looking better at least.
wow dodger stadium is empty.
Lakers are getting more physical.
nobody likes AM radios i guess.
Kemp's contacts may have helped him in the field even more than at the plate.
@Nic_j:
lets hope bynum stays in the game! he had a sweet little dream shake (something like one) in the beginning.
Lakers stink from 3-point range.
way to fight that one off mattie.
just wait it out! sasha's hair needs to get a lil slicker. then he'll start raining treys.
The Bison's on
could of used that one last time around casey.
nice hit though.
now they're rollin!
Sax - Lopez is a switch hitter. Otherwise, no. Tracy is horrible against lefties, so no go with him. They have 2 lefties (Tracy and Montero) and 2 switch hitters (Clark and Ojeda) on the pine.
CB! woot woot.
two on for Stults. Will he swing or bunt?
GET THE BUNT DOWN.
steal for the bison.
WHOO!!!!! beauty.
Just thought of something. With that cutter, Davis must be tough to bunt.
That is why you run the Bison.
please excuse my noobness.. explain bison.
Haha. Does Davis really think Blake will steal?
Don Sutton referred to Kemp as a Bison due to his size and speed.
gCHOW:
http://tinyurl.com/cmrxms
he looks like a bison lumbering around the bases.
Re Bison Kemp - Sutton actually said "he looks like a big buffalo running the bases." Since Bison is both more accurate and cooler sounding, the name stuck.
he'll probably think manny will steal a base too.
thanks. i will know acknowledge kemp as THE bison too.
STULTS!
Nic - Lumbering wouldn't be the term, given Kemp's speed.
hopefully kobe can remember that shot for the second half.
Stultsy. Sacrificing like a man, not a pitcher.
Dougie is pitching on the edge.
Kobe's foot was just on the line. Lakers enter halftime down by three.
lake show down by three at the half. considering how crappy they have been playing this is great. now stick an IV in kobe and have him ready for the 2nd half!!
Raffy walks. Two on for the O-Dog.
O-Dog needs a walk. I want Manny up with the bases juiced.
bring on man-ny!!!
bring on man-ny!!!
Davis is done if he doesn't get O-Dog
i hate seeing gibby in red.
juiced 4 the man! go Manny!
And they are juiced!
I would love to see Manny break Gehrig's record in Blue.
bring that big freak Rauch on!
So long Doug.
Rauch would do better with the Suns, not the D-Backs.
Manny's first at-bat with the bases loaded.
MLSF - I think Hendrickson was better in the NBA than with the Dodgers.
Argh, almost.
it seems like he alwasy flies out to the warning track with bases loaded. oh well its still a run.
soooooo close, holy shit!
he drove that run in!
think cubs loney.
Now it's the bases juiced for Loney.
Loney is 1-for-4 with the BL.
aw man, Loney's got nothing today
i think loney needs to be downgraded from king.
Wow. 2 Ks in one game for Loney. Rare.
Anyone can have a bad night, Nic j
Loney's K was paaaaaaaainful.
But 4-1 means we're in line for burgers!
i love loney, but i dont think he exibits enough power for a first basemen. thats just me though.
that being said i love how he uses all parts of the field.
Stults is cruising.
hmmm, i think were gonna need more runs.
that ball is cruising.
OK never mind.
Hack Reynolds did his thing.
He crushed that.
I'm out for now. I'll be back though.
I think Stults can get through this inning, but is anyone warming up in the 'pen?
Nevermind.
lakers heating up!
I guess everyone left to go watch basketball. Good thing I hate the Lakers, so I can devote my full attention to the Dodgers.
you hate the lakers?
With a passion.
batting .1000 tonight Erin.
its tough to be the best.
its tough to be the best.
Aren't you watching the Red Sox-Yankees game? i am.
Yep, I don't like Martin, and I hate the Lakers. Those who were around here last season would have already known that, but I guess it's time to make sure the newcomers know who I am.
I am watching the Sox/Yankees game, and praying against a late-inning comeback from the Evil Empire here.
sweet, love it!
nice hustle russ.
nice hit. the boys are really banging it tonight!
Martin scored from first? Nice job.
good bit of hitting by Kemp
he put in that extra effort to try to win you over erin.
Was Kemp's hit off the wall in left center?
I think he might have, Nic. He heard my complaining. I appreciate that he went the extra mile (or 90 feet, in this case).
Off the wall in left center. It was a line drive. He missed a HR by a couple of feet.
Esmerling is a very interesting name.
I think Kobe is about to go off
Lakers down 70-67 at end of 3rd
E-3? or E-6?
Gameday has no idea.
Now it says E-3.
Whew, back from the Lakers. What'd I miss?
Not much, Mr. People are concentrating on basketball, understandably.
Mota is being a nice guy and trying to let the Diamondbacks get back in the game.
Tony Clark, another basketball player for the D-Backs
Wilson doubled. One out.
The bottom third of a terrible lineup like this should be much easier than Mota is making it look.
And right as I say that, he strikes out Tony Clark. So, two down with one on, and back to the top of the order.
Clark ends in K.
Wade on regular form!
K for Wade.
Cory Wade is back.
watching 24. bauer trumps blue tonight. rauch stinking up d-backs like he stunk up my fantasy team last year.
Sorry, Delino.
Do you still want comment #227?
yao looks hurt.
Anybody see that HBP? Where'd it hit Manny?
HBP. Ouch
Ethier singles.
tony almeida... so evil.
in the buttocks
With Yao out, maybe Kobe takes it the hole more. He's taken too many jumpshots
The Lakers need to go to the basket, not settle for jumpers.
Battier has played Kobe well tonight.
Manny runnin' like a youngin'!
Statistics shine for King James Loney
Not this time. Ugh.
The Red Sox are giving me a heart attack right now.
Meanwhile, a grand slam gave the Rockies the win over the Padres in San Diego.
i want comment 302 - delaware area code.
shoot. missed that one too.
i'll gun for number 411.
If Loney ever develops power he'll be something else.
Erin, Papelbon got himself into Rancho Ardiendo
argh, bad calls from the refs, lakers down by eight
Yeah, Karina, I'm sweating while watching him try to get out of it.
erin - got the sox up on gameday.
don't worry. paplebon only gets better at 30 pitches!
Lakers looked rusty tonight. The crowd was out of it.
Power is not everything. Maybe it's me, but i prefer close score games, i adore a well made bunt, a squeeze play, a great defensive play, an strike hit nicely to the other side in the field. Maybe i'm just a romantic.
Epale, everybody! This is from earlier in the game:
"You come to Dodger Stadium these days, you never know what you're going to see....
"Seen a couple of triple plays and saw one that could have been unassisted. It was a Giant-Dodger game on the Polo Grounds, and the shortstop for the Giants, Alvin Dark, same story, runners going, and he stepped on second, could have tagged the runner coming from first, but lobbed a throw to first." —Vin
the refs are killing them
wow, these calls are pretty lopsided.
Hell yeah. Just woke up Christine by cheering when Cano struck out there. Oops.
Red Sox won. May the Dodgers have the same result.
See!
Go Sox.
You were right, Delino.
And now Rancho Ardiendo for the Dodgers.
Congrats Erin.
Is Christine a child, dog, or evil car?
Just me or is this an incredibly long game?
d'oh.
Christine is my fiancé. Or, I guess, technically, "domestic partner," but that sounds dumb.
This is a long game.
Oh, Kemp. Not the best outcome there.
crap, now I'm depressed
Delino - wow were you wrong!
An inning and a half left, and this game has already eclipsed the 3 hour mark.
there goes homecourt.
lakers came out really flat though.
MR LA SPORTS FAN - very depressing
incredibly long yes...
Feels extra long when you're watching it in the eastern time zone, too.
Although I suppose it doesn't feel that long to me since I just watched a nearly four-hour Sox/Yankees game, and that's about normal for those.
Cory Wade has gotten four outs on eleven pitches. Not bad.
Mazol Tov Erin. Fiance's got more zing. Domestic partner sounds too bureaucratic.
Back when she was pregnant, I took to calling my wife my "host body." That didn't go over well :-)
Hopefully the Lakers now know what to focus on. I doubt Houston could take all three in Texas, it's still in the Lakers' favor.
Yeah, we were stupid and missed the chance to do the whole legal marriage thing after an official engagement (at Dodger Stadium) last year. So we've settled for the domestic partnership thing for now, even though it really doesn't mean much.
You think they leave Wade in for the top of the ninth?
Hehe, host body!, it is like a Being John Malcovich reference
nope pierre is batting.
damn lakers, i should be excited about 11-0
Apparently eleven pitches for Wade was too much, and it's best to use another pitcher tonight. Perfectly sensible.
Patience, Nic j. Maybe he gets the accustomed infield single.
Let's get Manny one more AB here.
at least Broxton isn't needed.
I like "host body." When friends or relatives of mine have been pregnant, I have referred to their fetuses (feti?) as parasites. All in good fun, of course.
This lineup's starting to remind me of the Yankees of the late 90s.
minus the media coverage
Vin failed to mention how Barry Bonds is craaaaazy. Kuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.
The crowd gets its wish!
There will be a very half-hearted rendition of "I Love LA" tonight.
Hope I can still say that by Memorial Day
Manny should use red, white & blue bunting in his dreads.
I'd like to think the people at the Dodgers game will be fully into the "I Love L.A." (assuming we get there), realizing that the Lakers only lost one game in a best-of-seven series.
People are fully aware of the Lakers in Chavez Ravine, trust me. I just hope they can be as optimistic as you believe. Nice hit by Manny.
... and the irony that Bonds supposedly wants back into the game, but advocated his old team replacing him with Manny. Maybe he's just defending a compatriot "misunderstood" LFer.
He makes it look too easy.
Manny turns junk into gold!
LA fans panic, me included.
M. Ramirez, in play (runs)!!!!
To be perfectly honest, I don't want anymore hits or runs. This is just too long.
I think Manny and 2B dude were talking about Wolverine (which was a big letdown, FYI)
It's 1:37am. I'd like to go to sleep.
Best of all, runners in scoring position and Ethier is up.
Phil will get them back on track. They were definitely rusty.
I'm working all night long, so game is the best stimulant ever.
Hey Leach is warming up. That brings a smile to my face. I like seeing the young guys make their debuts.
DDDDDAAAAAAMMMMMNNNNNNIIIIIITTTTTTTTTT
Delino - agred on Wolverine.
I think all fans panic everywhere. I just want the Dodgers to get the credit they deserve, without the Lakers ruining it. But I guess if the posts about Dodger Stadium being empty tonight are true, there won't be many people singing anyway.
so anyone still think the lakers can take it in five,
sorry about all the lakers talk non-laker fans.
I love the Dodgers. But this is definitely a Laker town.
I love the Dodgers. But this is definitely a Laker town.
This is Laker town. I love the Dodgers, but the Lakers command attention. You don't see any blue flags in October.
I think the Dodgers actuallu benefit from the Lakers winning, they are sort of (and i mean SORT of) flying under the radar. less pressure.
No Torre, don't put Broxton in, I wanna see Leach.
Good to see Brox get some work.
Why in the world would Broxton be in this game?
Broxton needs the work.
yeah its a lakertown, in part because of the Fox ownership and the angels getting betting, turncoats.
thats why i think manny is so loved here, he made the team relevant again.
How about this: For L.A., the Lakers are a passion. The Dodgers are a hobby.
