Dodger Red

About those red Dodger hats:

Orlando Hudson applies a late tag to Dexter Fowler in the first inning of today's game.

Eric Stults in the first inning.

All MLB teams are wearing red caps with flag-embossed logos in observance of Memorial Day. The caps are meant as a show of support for the Welcome Back Veterans Foundation. From the product description:

Welcome Back Veterans is an initiative launched by Major League Baseball and the McCormick Foundation to raise public awareness about issues facing today's veterans, and to raise funds to support programs and services that these returning soldiers need to repair and restore their lives.

According to True Blue LA, the red hats will return on July 4 and September 11.

At the risk of sounding insensitive...barf...why not find another way to commemerate veterans, like throw back uniforms that have some sort of continuity.

Is that the new Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim cap?

Andrew - Agreed. The hats stick out like a sore thumb. The blue hats were fine.

Why couldn't they just have blue hats with a memorial day logo-ized "LA"? I'm not the most patriotic person you'll find, but I understand the sentiment. But do it right at least...

Here is an interesting take on the military/holiday tributes from Uni Watch on ESPN.

And I'm sure these hats were being sold at all the stadiums too. This is just there way of trying to get more money out of people. I thought the blue hats were great and was looking forward to them continuing that tradition this year, but it looks like someone thought up to make them red this year so they could get every idiot that buys the new hat to now buy another hat. MLB is all about money and how they can grab as much as they can. It's unfortunate.
