Chad Billingsley (11-8, 3.54) vs. Cory Luebke (0-1, 7.20).
Sure, San Francisco fans. You might think that your recent four-game win streak (two of which beat us; two of which are against minor snakes of the garden-type variety) was cause for celebration. But not against this 2010 Dodgers squad (now 10 games out of first place with a sub-.500 record); no, we're playing the spoiler, and even better, we're playing the spoiler against YOU now! A loss today would complete a Padres sweep and give division-leading San Diego a nice boost, rejuvenating the Padres after their disappointing ten-game losing streak. And Thursday, you roll into Petco Park for a four-game series. We're doing our part to make sure they have all the momentum!

MLSF:
Are you sure its not LINDSEY at first base instead of Mitchell? I thought Mitchell was a 3b.
And while I'm at it, anyone hankering for the return of Spock?
I got 1/4 of the all-bench lineup I asked for. Where's my John Lindsey? Where's my Trent Oj...Oe...Ol...Not gonna work here anymore, anyway.?
It is Mitchell.
I call Trent the Thunder Down Under.
And I do want Spock back. Regular Spock. Which in this case is evil Spock.
Ask and Ye Shall Receive.
So long Merken. You hung in there well.
Hooray for Spock!
Per my agent:
"Maybe the team doesn't want him around. He certainly feels unappreciated for all he's done so far."
See if you bench me after a loss again.
+++ WRASSLIN' NEWS +++
Jim 'The Anvil' Neidhart, Former Pro Wrestler, ARRESTED On Drug Trafficking
Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, a former wrestler in the then-World Wrestling Federation, was arrested on Sunday for "possession and trafficking in a controlled substance and burglary," according to Tampa Bay Online.
Neidhart was charged with "two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of trafficking in illegal drugs and one count of burglary and one count of grant theft."
According to the police, he caused a disturbance while pumping gas on Sunday and ingested "multiple pills that he dropped on the ground while inside the trunk of his vehicle."
At the gas station, police found him in possession of 55.6 grams of Oxycontin and 17.4 grams of methadone.
Neidhart was a wrestler in the WWF in the 1980s and 1990s.
It's all fake anyway.
It took me a second to realize that MLASF wasn't referring to the merkin.
I believe The Anvil had a cup of coffee in the NFL.
As long as we're migrating avatars, the cavalier ensemble needs a dry cleaning. The hat was getting that Eric Gagné sweat ring.
Mr. C going back to the broxton 3 pack.
New avi in effect. To the Penguin!
I think the Anvil was framed by the killer bees.
Bees....fuck bees.
Yeah, or the British Bulldogs.
The Iron Sheik?
Maybe Demolition.
I may be rooting for the Padres (to stay ahead of the Giants), but I still dislike MSB.
Man o Man
The Anvil on the pills. That doesn't fit the aging wrestler sterotype.
Where did all of my childhood heroes go wrong??
@SSS
That was my initial snarky reaction, too. Whoa, wait, another ex-wrassler dies from OD or is caught with hillbilly crack? Knock me over with a feather!
(You can get a feather from Hulk Hogan's boa.)
Also @SSS
Here's to Mid-South Wrasslin' 1970s and 1980s!
@ Dusty
Mid-South FTW!
Too bad there weren't any Rock n Roll express, Stagger Lee/JYD, or Freebird references.
Ah, the good ole days
We can use our cell phones to kill the bees.
I had the distinct pleasure of seeing JYD wrestle at TH Barton Coliseum in the early 80s. Also Jake the Snake, Steve "Dr Death" Williams, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, etc. Classic. Then a buncha them went on to WWF and got all sissy on me.
And look how I turned out.
Kamala, the Ugandian Giant wrestled in the main event at ASU-Beebe when I was a kid vs Ted Dibiase.
Kamala chased my brother and 2 of his friends all over the gym before the match. He was screaming "Eat you....Eat you"
It was awesome.
Long time no talk. Y'all are going down this week (this is the fantasy football game thread, right?)
Trying to make it out of Westlake alive, Vinny!
Is it trash-talk time already, El Profesor?
Have any of you noticed the list of Dodgers sponsors, when read on the radio, has both Caremore AND Budweiser ending their taglines with the same, "It's what we do."
Caremore: it's what we do. I get it.
Budweiser:...it's what we do.
WTF?
@Mr. C - Sure... what the heck else are we going to discuss?
Hello Everyone!!
@Sax...Love the GT
Well this is not a good start.
@Ditty
Um…
I'll have to get back to you on that.
Drive-by mattress fire bombing....
DIE DIE DIE
Sweet, snakes tied it up at 1
@Karina (where ever you are)
Portnoy just announced he's left Dream Theater.
That was Bison-esque
Kemp?
Hey, Kemp didn't strike out.
Rummitch K's with an RISP.
Today you are a dodger.
Mr. C - How 'bout this?
ESPN just showed a commercial for Resident Evil in 3D.
Who goes to these movies that it warrants sequels?
Russ Mitchell looks like Mitch Jones.
They made Step Up: 3D.
HOW IN THE HELL COULD THERE BE A STEP UP 2?
mitch jones looked a little more gooberish.
Step Up 2: The Streets.
the real question is who the hell goes to see the first one.
The 3-D thing works less than ideally for four-eyes such as myself. I do not feel that I am missing much.
Epale everyone!
I thought the thread below was the Game Thread,
@Neeebs I'm shocked, you?
It's like all those Leprechaun movies. Was In the Hood really so successful as to warrent Back 2 Tha Hood?
JAMES LABRIE IS THE FUTURE OF DREAM THEATER
@Karina:
Very surprised.
I was having a discussion recenly about what movie would be least appropriate for a 3D remake. We narrowed it down to either Network or 12 Angry Men.
If there's anything I want to see in 3D, it's Henry Fonda.
I'll have to go and look. I really enjoy that moment of realization.
Vin, on my bedroom!
:)
@MLASF
Yentl was right up there, as well.
@Professor Dittmore this is not smack talk, but the preview says my team is slightly better than yours!
I'm still traumatized by Jaws 3D
(sobs)
I haven't been bitten by the 3D movie bug.
How about John Ford's Grapes of Wrath w/Fonda in 3D? Does 3D work for black and white movies?
@Spanky
I have almost convinced myself that they intended Jaws 3D to be hilarious.
I'm looking forward to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I on 3D.
Dorks like me, who raised their beverage straws when the wizards raised their wands in the last movie, get a blast out of the 3D.
I'm still waiting for A Street Car Named Desire: 3D.
Ump's strikeout call is a mite excessive.
How about Bogart on 3D?
Durango hit that right on cue
Porky's Trilogy in 3D!!!!!!!
@Karina
That one will be pefectly appropriate for the 3D theme.
What I don't get is the notion I would somehow want to see a crappy movie more because it was filmed in 3D.
I would totally go to see Porky's in 3D, however.
@Karina - I didn't know ESPN was handicapping the games. FWIW that was the most polite smack talk I've ever heard.
When did Joe Torre morph into Karl Maulden?
@Mr C - You're telling me that you wouldn't want to see such films as Clash of the Titans, The Last Airbender, and Jackass even if they were just simple 2D?
San Diego is such a weenie of a baseball town, they're in the heat of a pennant race and they can't put butts in the seats at Petco
Fast Times at Ridgemount High in 3D.
My Dinner With Andre is hands down the least appropriate movie to make into 3D.
I would pay to see a three-dimensional Wallace Shawn.
@ Karen
they are all playing frisbee at the beach
@Karina
I'm right with you on HP. Can't wait.
Mrs Dusty needs to finish reading the book by then though.
WALLACE SHAWN IS THE FUTURE OF THE MOVIE BIZ
C'mon Bills
Bean him with your thighs
Rancho negativo!
@Mr C the key here is to have a good story. I'm sure the next Transformers will be on 3D but I won't bother to watch it ( as I have done with the other two in spite I loved the cartoons and played A LOT with the toys in my childhood)
@Professor Dittmore it wassn't smack talk, I was sure you were going to kick me in the butt :(
it was a real surprise
Transformers! More than meets the thighs!
#BillingsleyTransformersMashup
@karina
Exactly. The 3D glasses are still a problem for me, though.
Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil Decepticons. IN 3D!!!
Jose Offerman would have made that play
Based on the one time I saw a 3D movie in theaters, the glasses aren't really an issue. Plus, I enjoy the evolutionary benefits of having six eyes.
Epale Y'all!
I can see that I haven't missed much. At least where the game is concerned.
@Dusty Baker what chapter is she reading? you'll have to read to her if necessary.
I don't know about you, but I'll gonna be in the first function. Depending of the time of the baseball game, I might watch the movie twice that day.
November 19th is a holiday, there's gonna be Deathly Hallows and baseball game at the Luis Aparicio.
This girl is going to fall asleep that day with a big smile on her face
I have spent more than my fair share of time transforming optimus prime from truck to autobot and back for my 5-year-old. I'm well versed in the need to protect the allspark.
@MLASF
You've only seen one movie in 3D?
In a way, I respect that. It's just that you're pretty much cutting edge on the entertainment tip, so I figured you had seen a lot of modern movies, many of which are 3D.
In another way, you're a luddite.
Respect either way.
@Karina
I don't know where she is. I keep taunting her about being behind. The problem is she has to read a lot of books, children's books, scripts, treatments, etc. for her job, so that has to come first.
@Dusty - I have seen 0 movies in 3D (not even Toy Story 3). What does that make me?
@P Ditty
"transforming optimus prime from truck to autobot and back"
Is that what the kids call it these days?
@P Ditty
An Arkansan.
@Mr LASF is also a four eyes!. Well, I suppose neither of you wear contacts.
@Mr C maybe there's something wrong when you put the 3D glasses over your regular frames.
I only saw Avatar. Unless 3D can truly enhance the movie-going experience, I have no real reason to fork down the extra money.
@Dusty Baker I suspect she hasn't opened it.If she doesn't know a thing, she's gonna devour it. It took me 11 hours to read it, counting the time I lost looking for words in the dictionary.
I always wear glasses, and I have never had a problem with wearing a 3D glasses contraption. The newer models (e.g., the last 5-6 years) are very amenable to people who wear glasses. They are so complicated (they don't use the same old 1950s colored plastic lenses technology) that the glasses are actually large and therefore fit over one's glasses; it;s like wearing ski goggles almost.
@Dusty
"Is that what the kids call it these days?"
No... it is what 40-something dads with a PhD call a frustrating $5 toy.
You're a discerning man, MLASF.
@Karina
Do you read the proper UK version or the watered down Americanized crap? (Not that I have an opinion either way.)
@Karina
The comfort of frames are the issue, which may also have to do with my giant cranium. I don't roll contacts. They didn't make them for my prescription until well after I'd gotten used to wearing glasses. I hate sticking my damn finger in my eye, too.
Scholastic is what I got and I wasn't going to complain.
I mean to read my beloved Harry Potter in both UK and USA versions, but I will when I move because, sadly I'll have to leave my books behind :( (at first, when I have an address, I'm so making my parents to send me those)
@dusty
UK version is vastly superior, as you well know.
@Steve Dittmore don't get frustrated! from what I learned from the kids around me, their toys get more and more complicated.
Most of our toys were lame by comparison (but we need to be more imaginative)
^needed
I'm with you Mr C. My stepdad is an optometrist and I have access to all the contacts I could desire, but I still refuse. Always seems like I have toast crumbs in my eyes when i try to wear them. Finally the old man said some people's eyes just aren't made for them (or vice versa I guess).
I dig the guy with the mustache and the retro jersey
@Karina
You mean Paul?
Middle of the fifth, and I have had absolutely nothing to say about this ballgame.
Wait, there's a game on?
@Mr C @Dusty Baker I have contacts since I'm 13, just a week after I had my first glasses. I got them because I was a dancer and I couldn't dance with my glasses on. That and I don't to look nerdy (I am but the world doesn't have to know about it)
Dusty's stepfather is right but if you get the right state of mind and the patience, you adjust quickly. My younger brother went into lasik surgery to find out a couple of years later, he needed glasses again. He just started wearing them.
However, you have to be very careful, serious accidents can happen.
Blake DeWitt would have made that play.
anyone happen to notice the angels are still playing a game that started at 4?
suckers.
@Dusty Baker hahahahaha, I think Paul said he has a beard right now,
If it wasn't for Vinny, I'd change the channel to Harry Potter and the Half Blood prince
hey, the snakes are up 3-1!
@sax
No baseball talk in the Gamethread!
BEAT LA!!
Karina, is Harry Potter airing 24/7 over there?
@Mr C this is Sax's blog, it's his party and he can cry if he wants to!
No scoring! gracias panita!
Just caught up with the GT. Guys, if we were going to obsess about 3D, why didn't you jump in in this PGT?
@MC:
If you want, I'll stick my finger in your eye. Both eyes even.
@karina
Patience, you say?
@Mr F hahahaha, no. It seems, like Star Wars and Indiana Jones. I'd wish it was the case.
Terms of Endearment 3D
Lorenzo's Oil 3D
Dead Man Walking 3D
@karina, sax
That was offered with tounge firmly planted in cheek.
Anne of Green Gables 3D
@Mr C ah?
No one respected my My Dinner with Andre 3D comment?
Tough crowd, tough crowd.
Space Jam in 3D! who's with me?
@Neeebs
Turnabout is fair play, and no doubt I deserve it.
@Mr C, what kind of cheek?
I said I wanted to see 3D Wallace Shawn!
@Steve Sax coherence in conversation is not one of the strong points, I suppose.
My Dinner with Andre 3D was pretty sweet; however, the comment was benched tonight.
^our
@Karina & Dusty...You guys are making me want to run out and buy a Harry Potter book. I've neither read any of the books nor seen any of the movies. I feel like I'm really missing out!!
There's not much game in these game threads lately.
@Dusty
No, that was strong. I was going to offer my congratulations, but I got distracted by some shiny bits of metal.
@Steve Sax I want to think Mr C means the cheeks in our faces.
theriot is 18-for-27 in SB attempts this year
I just saw Pretty Woman in 3D.
Julia Roberts' mouth was even scarier.
@sax
The left one…on my face.
Princess Bride in 3D?
Inconceivable!
@karen go! get it from a library, wherever you can, you might not become a fan but it's a truly enjoyable read and it's incredibly well written. It's so full of details you actually feel you live in that world.
It doesn't have to be soon, but when you read them, you'll be beyond entertained.
@MLASF
There also not much game in the Dodgers recently, either.
@rbnlaw who's up to sign an online petition for Princess Bride on 3D?
poor chad. low run support is gonna screw him again
why the Dodgers seem to always receive good bunts?
Andy Warhol's "Sleep 3D"
@karen. Go read them! They really bring out your inner child!
@karina, bad teams tend to make other teams look good.
There might not be much game in our SoSG fantasy football league. According to ESPN predictions I am about to get my ass severely kicked by Paul. What do they know, my team has heart and soul!
Sherrill is up.
I hope he doesn't have a printed contract for 2011.
you suck, Pods fans (not the guy with the mustache)
Oh, fer fucks sake.
IBB so they can get to Mark Reynolds with two on and one out in the bottom of the eighth in AZ
They loaded the bases on that? We really are cursed this season.
(sad trombone)
Rancho Ardiendo, the bad kind.
@Sax:
poor [insert Dodger starter name here]. low run support is gonna screw him again
BEAT LA!!!
Kramer vs. Kramer: 3D
shit, that ended up being a good call; Reynolds and his .210 average GIDP to end the inning.
Last chance for SF, down two runs in the ninth
meanwhile, we're down 3-0 now. with none out and two on.
i'm switching back to the giants-snakes game. at least there I can get happy
Guffaw.
DIVE DIVE
AOOGA AOOGA
Why didn't they release Machete on 3D?
I'm dying to see that film, Danny Trejo FTW!
hahaha, well at least we hurt someone.
I like this Mitchell guy already!
Russ Mitchell is 0-for-2 with a K and now an error in his major league debut.
Sigh.
@NicJ right :(
@Meaniebreanie if you have heart and soul, nothing can stop you
Giants get a leadoff double in the ninth, down two runs. This isn't good.
@Mr.F - quote from Don Henley
"I would like to find your inner child and kick its little ass"
I don't consider that an error, plunking the shit out of an opposing player. Sticker for his helmet, in my book.
finally, one out!
it was a productive out, forget it :(
It's only 4 runs, folks. We'll get 'em ba....
(cries)
Renteria Ks on a full count for out #1
Hey you can take other lyrics from Don's song and put it into context with the Dodger's.
You're makin' the most of your losin' streak
Some call it sick, but I call it weak
You drag it around like a ball and chain
You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain
You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown
Got your mind in the gutter, bringin' everybody down
Complain about the present and blame it on the past
I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little ass
Sofia Vergara is attractive.
IT AIN'T OVER 'TILL IT'S OVER
faith, boys and girls, muggles, wizards and squibs alike :)
juan uribe fouls out to the catcher for out #2
uribe doesnt hit a HR!!!
@MeanieBreanie:
Frank and Jamie McCourt trial = Dirty Laundry
Giants lose!
this is more over than parachute pants.
kemp / broxton / loney / ethier / martin: the end of the innocence
(except for the "open up your best defenses" part)
giants lose!!!
Even Vinny is rooting for the Padres.
This Modern Family show is very funny. I can't believe I've never watched it before.
Taiwan will touch your heart!
