Just read that "Nearly 50 at-bats into his White Sox career, Manny Ramirez had zero extra-base hits and zero RBIs."
We'll always have Bobbleslam, I suppose.
Scooby-Doo threads fully in effect for a Friday morning.
Surly factor of about +6.28 also in effect.
I am a card-carrying heterosexual male that does not get the appeal of Marisa Miller.
With bobbleslam and schadenfreude, how can we be depressed?
Easy. This team went from being a perennial contender to being the 2008, 2009 San Diego Pod Rays in the span of 3 months.
I do think a change in leadership might help Kemp. I also think a season free of hand injuries will help Ethier. I also think nothing will help Russell Martin or James Loney.
My only caution is to not give up on Loney, lest he becomes Paul Konerko once he's traded.
@DB: SEE?! We didn't need Manny!
*cries into his Starbucks cup*
Using the same (nearly) 50 at-bat timeframe:
Matt Kemp: 2 XBH (0 HR), 0 RBI in 50 AB
Andre Ethier: 4 XBH (2 HR), 4 RBI in 48 AB
James Loney: 8 XBH (1 HR), 7 RBI in 49 AB
Casey Blake: 2 XBH (1 HR), 2 RBI in 49 AB
Oof.
Yeah, we kinda suck.
Loney looks pretty good...in that context, at least.
Hey, our Tragic Number is now 5! I was worried it wasn't going down fast enough, because I just want this over already. Thankfully, last night's disaster shaved 2 games off the number.
Josh,
Waaay too much time on your hands, but your work is appreciated. Perhaps if I showed some of that grit, MLASF would put me back in the starting lineup.
@rbn:
a) It's Friday.
b) The system I do the bulk of my work on is down.
c) I'm a fucking gamer.
Josh,
Can't argue with that. Watch out for those pesky plantar fascists.
@rbnlaw from last night's thread: I didn't lose my positivism. Last night it rained a lot around here and the connection didn't work so I fell asleep.
I woke up at 4 am, thinking: the game, the game! what's the score?. Then I found out the game was over.
Couldn't get back to sleep *sigh*
good news is that my day started with an early workout.
More grit is always appreciated, Rbn.
I couldn't stand my son and the King gone at the same time :(
I can understand when someone has given up on my son, but I think Loney deserves the benefit of the doubt.
@Mr LASF I wish I can make it to the next starting lineup
Surliness level climbing to 8.85. This may call for a liquid lunch.
Good research, Josh (re Manny vs Dodgers). Great perspective. Loney, what a stud!
*cries in his frappe*
To tell you all how shitty I feel about the team, tonight I will be going to the game, participating in the pre-game ceremony, recognized by the PA announcer before the crowd, and stand along the first base while the camera pans and displays on the Dodgervision my and other faces who are participating in the ceremony...and I don't want to go!
I did this two years ago and it was the thrill of a lifetime. Now it's like, ok, I'll do it then leave right afterward so I can be on the sofa, Vinny.
Today's tentative lineup:
Rbnlaw 4
Josh S. 6
Karina 2
Dusty Baker 9
Fred's Brim 5
Neeebs 8
Jason 3
el montero 7
Karen 1
I'monna tear a mofo up tonight hitting cleanup. Or at least have more XBH than Manny.
@DB: The Dodgers are honoring "Surly Drunks Among Us?" Awesome.
Benched! If you need some one to strike out with RISP in the late innings, I'm here for ya, skip.
"This Is My Town: Town Drunks"
I'm so in.
Batting 7th? Plenty of time to get drunk before I play my first baseman part and put up a GIDP.
GIDP=Gladly Imbibing Double Pilsners
It was tough to put Spanky on the bench. But el montero deserves a start.
@Jason - Don't worry. It's not like anyone is going to get on base for you to DP.
I feel happy that I have assembled the first female battery, even if it's all just make-believe.
*pouts in dugout*
*refuses to speak to reporters*
Take heart, Spanky. Twitter is on fire with people complaining about your benching.
STOOPID MLASF NO MAKE SAME LINEUP TWO STRAIGHT DAYS
Just remember Spanky: I'm not coming to you. You have to come to me.
@Mr LASF did you forget "A League of their Own"?.Karen and I can do a decent work (for the record, I'm not saying we're gonna win)
Also, there's no crying in baseball
Press Release from Scott Sore-Ass,Spanky's Agent:
My clients recent benching is another classic case of Ego driven, mindless decisions infecting this team. We feel if our services are not needed here then maybe it will somewhere else. My client is not asking for a trade but if his talent is not needed here then so be it.
it's everywhere on Twitter: Torre is stepping down and we have Donnie baseball as manager next season.
Torre's out but Mattingly's in.
WE'RE DOOMED
@Spanky
We were already doomed.
@Spanky @Dusty Baker for the love of God, don't start dooming 2011! don't send negative vibes into a season that hasn't even started.
I can't say I'll be pleased if it is true, but the better Mattingly does, the better the Dodgers do, so he has my full support.
It is confirmed, Donnie Baseball is the new manager, it's on dodgers.com
TIM WALLACH IS THE FUTURE MANAGER OF THE SEATTLE MARINERS
I meant doomed in general, not because of D. Baseball. I'm absolutely open minded about him and willing to give him a chance. Hopefully he will surprise the naysayers.
@RBN
We're a few games below mediocrity right now.
I just think you don't give a passenger a key to the car if they have never driven.
But what do I know I'm bench material
*shrugs shoulders Manny styles*
DB,
That's whats left of my optimism.
Good point Spankster. Maybe you need some of my grit.
A bunch of random thoughts on the Mattingly move:
-He's REALLY inexperienced, so that scares me.
-It means he won't be hitting coach anymore, so that's good.
-Hopefully we'll get some fresh blood at Pitching Coach, Bench Coach, and Third Base Coach. (Mariano seems harmless enough.)
-I'm not as up-in-arms about Tim Wallach being overlooked because I never seriously thought he'd get the job. I bet he didn't either.
-There's probably at least another year of divorce drama, so if he can steer through that, he's good enough for me.
@ rbn
Only if that grit comes with some shrimp on the side
Spanks,
It's that good gulf shrimp from Louisiana.
Kind of oily; not as much grit(s).
If Donnie Ballgame is the next skipper, there's reason for hope. He took time off for his own divorce; maybe he can advise Frank to take a permanent vacation and settle his.
I really do think his divorce experience could be a benefit.
*crosses fingers*
Sorry I was a no show last night. I will be sitting on the bench with Spanky if you need backup tonight.
