Post-Game 109 Thread: Time To Step Up (In 3D)

PADRES 5, DODGERS 0

On a night where the Giants and Rockies both lost, the Dodgers wasted a golden opportunity by flailing around with RISP (despite nine hits--as many as the Padres had for the game--the Dodgers go 0-for-8 with RISP), dropping the game 5-0 and allowing San Diego to escape with a series tie and eight game lead over the fourth-place Dodgers. James Loney goes 0-for-4 and is the final AB in two innings; Matt Kemp goes 1-for-4 and sees his average dip to .264; and AJ Ellis is batting a Garret Anderson-like .192 with his 0-for-3 performance tonight (including a GIDP).

Adding to the insult was a ninth-inning, two-run inside-the-park HR from Chris Denorfia, which Scott Podsednik played so badly out there I flashed back years back to Juan Pierre (or weeks back to Garret Anderson). This not only rubbed salt in the wound but poured boiling sulfuric acid along with it. 53 games to play, gentlemen, and eight games to make up (six if you're counting the WC). Time to step up, in 3D no less.

Is that guy in the poster trying to strangle the girl? And what's with hoodie boy with the jazz hands in the back? I am clearly not in this demo.

We'll probably be swept by the Nats, just to solidify the fact that we really are out of it.

At least if we get swept by the Nats, I can semi-cheer for my 2nd team.

@Dusty: but now they're throwing in 4 bobbleheads as well.

Kyle Baker said...

Maybe they'll throw in another Loney bobble to make up for the one I just pulled out of the box last night to reveal that the head is broked off and the brim of the hat broken off, too. Thanks for nothing, asshole McCourts! Spent $40 on that ticket. Go park my fuckin car and then get out of LA.

I just watched the inside-the-park HR again. What the fuck, Pods? And if I hear anyone ever complain about Manny Ramirez' fielding in left, I will remind them of this nadir.

the chicken has come to take the season.

Just noticed that if one looks very closely, one can see an ancient baseball card under the cellophane packaging. It's a Gary Carter 3D card from 1976 - the first baseball card I ever owned.

only 53 games left of this crap.

I spent part of my childhood in San Diego, and I remember the sportscaster on one of the stations there would change the graphic on the scores depending on who won. If the hometeam came out on top, they were "My Padres." If they lost, they were "Your Padres." I think I may adopt that nomenclature for L.A., as in "Your Dodgers really sucked tonight."

Your Dodgers haven't won a pennant in a looooong time.

Great, I fell asleep and they get a 2-run inside the park HR.

In any case, I'm not ready to quit on MY Dodgers.

So what can we do with the next two months to make this as positive as possible?

1. Can we flip Lilly and Dotel to some other teams before Sept 1?
2. Can we get something out of Manny?
3. Would anybody be desperate enough to take Belli2 or Breezy? For cash?
4. Can we please dump dead weight like GAAARP?
5. Are there kids we can bring up to get them used to real but low-pressure ballgames? The Elys, the Lindbloms, the Xs, etc
6. Can we be proactive about the manager situation, like allow Joe the chance to "retire"?
7. Can we position ourselves financially so we can do something, anything, in the offseason?
8. Can we secretly sabotage Padilla and Kuroda over their next several starts so it won't require Randy Wolf-like contracts to sign them in the offseason? Maybe that's what Joe's been doing all along with his bullpen choices

I am hoping we go .500 the rest of the way with players developing and giving us some hope for next year, and taking down the Giants while we do it

So how are we doing with that collection to buy the team?
