Post-Game Thoughts with the D-Line*

*Please note: this is not an official Post-Game Thread. Just cause I got home before Orel and Sax doesn't mean I'm about to steal their thunder.

Still covered in sweat and Light Beer (courtesy of the sweat), I report from the comforts of the DeShields compound in lovely Burbank after one of the more thrilling games I've attended in my LA decade. Some Deep Thoughts...

1. Scott Road is the key to Dodgers happiness. More on that in a moment.

2. There is a line separating two parallel worlds. One liquid:

One not:3. Charlie Manuel did a fantastic job of beating Charlie Manuel, pulling a never-better Pedro in favor of the Four Faces of Suck (aka the Phillies bullpen). Pedro's stuff was nasty, tying the Dodgers up like fools. And the bullpen was a less ironic version of nasty. Just sad that Lidge wasn't in there - he's due for his next meltdown.

4. Chevy's still in business. And I have the Black Dodgers bag to prove it. All I had to do was give them SoSG's Sax personal info:

5. The word genius is thrown around too much nowadays. But for this gentleman, it's TOTALLY WARRANTED:

6.Padilla's proof that you can find gold in the junkyard. Like my couch in college (which was technically found on the streets of Philadelphia). Actually, we gave that couch back from where it came once its mysterious liquidy center started rising to the surface.

7.The covered seats in the Loge still get all sorts of hot on a day like this. Fortunately, the ice cream man provided me with a life-saving post-game Root Beer Float. Though I really wanted this...

8. Did I mention Scott Road is the key to my happiness? I walked out of the parking lot to my FREE spot, and about 15 minutes later I was on the 5 North. My Philly-loving homie "The Philly Cheese" called me from the Dodgers Parking lot... over 90 minutes after the game was over. He made it about ten feet, and was at a dead stop.

The myriad issues with the parking lot and transportation around Dodger Stadium is not new to readers of SoSG. After 80-plus games, you think the powers that be would figure it out. Though I have a theory. In the divorce, Frank McCourt got the entrances... while his ex-wife took the exits.

Looking forward to my Game Six tickets. Maybe by then Manuel will realize his bullpen is awful at best, and the ice cream man will restock those Hulk Hogan ice cream bars.

DD,

You ain't lying about Scott Rd. I've never failed to find a spot there or in Elysian Park, even in a sell out. It turns out I'll walk a hell of a long way not to pay for parking, and still get in and out faster.

"The Philly Cheese" was still stuck last I heard. Just f-ing ridiculous. Poor guy didn't even have the afterglow of a victory to keep him occupied.

Yup, pretty much the worst possible time for a game in LA.

Also, I'm hoping "The 4 Faces of Suck" catches on.

That traffic was pretty bad. Luckily we had rations and didn't die of dysentery a la Oregon Trail.

Wouldn't you rather have a Ric Flair Figure-Four Scoop Sundae?

Wooo!!!

I gotta try Scott Rd. one of these days. I can't believe I never have, considering I used to work a couple blocks from there.

Lot 4 rules the school if you gotta go the paid route.

Christine and I parked on Boylston St. for the last home series and game two of the NLDS. It was pretty sweet. Long (uphill) walk, but worth it because I'm not giving McCourt $15 extra for his divorce attorney fees.

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa.

Treehouse of Horror is airing BEFORE Halloween? That hasn't happened in a DECADE!

Free parking team, represent!

This is the last paragraph from the LA Times story. Thought you'd enjoy the shout out.

Figuring that the 5-foot-11, 193-pound Martinez was too slight and brittle to be a mainstay of their pitching staff, the Dodgers traded him to the Montreal Expos for Delino DeShields on Nov. 19, 1993. It has generally been regarded as one of the worst trades in baseball history. Martinez has won 219 games in his major league career.

I waited in the stadium and in the lot for an hour and a half before I even attempted leaving!

Game Two in the NLDS, I smoked a bog ole fat victory...cigar to while away the time. Security had us just sit there for about an hour and 15 mins before even recommending making a go for it.

Again, right down the street from me in Old Town Pasadena, there is some dude on bar stool who can control the Mars Rover with his iPhone. I KNOW we have the know-how and technology tp plan a better exit route out of Chavez Ravine after these early games that coincide with rush hour.

I think Josh is going to have a heart attack over this Simpsons thing.

Steve Sax said...

@Dusty Baker: are you talking about that Mars Rover that NAsA films out in the mojave desert?

Kyle Baker said...

The Simpsons thing is friggin' huge...don't misunderestimate its impact.

Kyle Baker said...

@Sax

I've worked at fairly high levels in the fed govt and seen a lot of strange shit, while at the same time being a huge conspiracy theorist, but I'm pretty bought into the Mars Rover bit being on the up and up.

Dodgers Parking has only become more awful, which I really didn't think that was possible.

I got one of the last spots near Scott Rd. Two minutes later, I would have been S.O.L.

It was one helluva game. One of the most exciting pitching duels I've seen. Manuel's gonna have some explaining to do.

And how about that cheese sauce?

Kyle Baker said...

DD-

Did you pierce the cheese sauce three times (or once with a fork)? Looked like it in the picture. If so, did it deflate when you did so?

Paul said...

I am still stuck in the parking lot from game 3 of the 2004 NLDS. But it is Lima Time!!

Kyle Baker said...

Paul-

Was that you leaving in 1988 when Gibby hit it out, and we see your break lights in the parking lot through the Pavilion? And you're still stuck?

Paul said...

"see I know my destination but I am just not there... On the streets...."

DB

that 1988 driver is frozen with a look of fear ala Randy Quaid in Kingpin.

Gentlemen,

I have read your blog for a season and a half now. Never have I been moved to comment. Until now...

There are some things in this world that should not be spoken of...EVER. Gentlemen, Scott Road is one of these. Please, comment freely on nacho cheese, DSBG, even the impending McCourt debacle, but speak NO MORE of Scott Road.

Thank you and God Bless.

PS Loved Mrs. Orel's take on Loretta's At-Bat, but does she really want to go by 'Mrs.Orel'?
