imagine if that had been a fan of another team - those people would have just walked on past....

hey DB (any anybody else who would like to answer this)

My buddy and I were having a conversation over some pops the other night. This came out of attending a Mets game a few months back. I saw a guy sitting a couple of rows ahead of us wearing a Len Dykstra jersey and carrying some beers. I said to myself first, and then out loud to my buddy, "oh shit - watch out for that asshole". My buddy's a lifelong Mets fan and concurred wholeheartedly that a dude wearing a Dykstra jersey is to be avoided. We got talking the other night about that Dykstra guy and who were the equivalent Dykstra guys for other teams. We came up with a few, like the fact that Dykstra would probably be the same for a Philly fan.

We also realized it took a very local knowledge about the local fanbase and team. For instance, he said that if you saw a guy wearing a Mark Gastineau jersey at a Jets game, there was a good chance he was gonna toss a beer on somebody that day. I don't think everybody would assume Mark Gastineau would be that guy

So who is that guy for the Dodgers? I made a guess at the time, but I am not confident in it.

@FB,
Just based on the fan base, I'd say anyone who wears a Kevin Brown jersey is trouble.

Steve Sax said...

@FB: Milton Bradley, to be sure.

As previosuly commented on, Bradley and Brown have to be right up there. I'd also throw in Raul Mondesi.

On a semi-related topic, what is up with people wearing Penny t-shirts to the Yard this past season? Were they cheap? Did they still harbor some love for the guy despite how he left and what he said? It's one thing when a player like Nomar moves on, but Penny?

Fred's Brim said...

thanks guys - Mondesi was my guess, but I could definitely see Kevin Brown. Was Milton that popular?

Fred's Brim said...

I would wear a Penny shirt for the comedy effect

Penny shirts make it easier to eat Dodger Dogs, in case some of the ketchup or mustard slips out and leaves a stain.

Glad we're on the same wavelength with Mondesi, FB!

I used to love that guy until I realized he would never get really get better than his first few years. I was sure when he ended up with the Yankees, he would do something amazing that would make me hate him, but luckily he didnt. I can still have my decent memories of him

Why can't the Spankees go back to those days of questionable signings?
Raul Mondesi
Dante Bichette
Jose Canseco
Kevin Brown
It was like they wanted chinks in the armor.
