Other NLDS Game 4 Scoreboard Watching (Part 2): Let's Go, Rockies!

Irrespective of which team you want to win the Phillies-Rockies NLDS, any sane Dodger fan would want the Rockies to win today's Game 4, forcing a Game 5 and using up a key starter on both squads.

It's the end of three innings, and the Phillies are up 1-0 thanks to a solo shot by Shane Don't Throw At My Head Victorino. The Rockies could better help themselves out here if they didn't waste two leadoff singles in the bottom of the first inning, and then watch Dexter Fowler GIDP in the third. But then, no lead is safe at Coors Field, so there's a lot more ball to play.

Cliff Lee, two hits and no runs through three innings; Ubaldo Jimenez, four hits and one run through four.

Let's go, Rockies! Win this game (or at least take it to the 17th inning)!

Let's get some shit going, Rox. Pretend like it's September.

Josh S. said...

Thank you for trying to liven the proceedings up, but watching this game on Gameday is one of the most painfully dull experiences of my life.

They could use it to quell rioters.

dsheridan88 said...

Couldn't disagree more. I want the Phillies....
1. Jim Tracy mojo
2. That dumb "Beat LA", which is ok in Frisco because they are the rival, but not from wannabe Arizona, San Diego, or Colorado.

Nostradamus said...

@Josh S

Do I wish they would put away their pitchforks and torches? Sure I do. If I keep talking like this, will they return quietly to their homes? We'll have to wait and see.

Steve Sax said...

@dsheridan, if you're not in favor of a Game 5 of this series, you're nuts (like Matt Holliday). It would mean one less day of rest, two more plane flights, and at least one lost starter (likely Cole Hamels / Aaron Cook, if not others).

I'm not saying the Rockies should win it all. I'm just saying they should exhaust each other in the process of getting to the end of their series.

Kyle Baker said...

Exactly, Sax.

Rox better hurry up and produce or else they'll run up against Phil' bullpen...oh, wait...maybe that's actually their game plan.

Steve Sax said...

two on, two out, and Carlos Gonzalez (Rockies' leadoff hitter) blows it, flying out to Werth.

1-0 Phils through 5.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

I still want to believe that everyone here looks like their avatar. That being the case, MC would be the most dashing dresser, by far. But that wouldn't be logical, would it?

And where the heck is Karina? I need to tell her something.

Kyle Baker said...

Haven't heard from Karina in some time, Neeebs.

Steve Sax said...

Werth HR. 2-0.

Kyle Baker said...

Werth makes it 2-0 with a HR.

Rocks- might want to go to plan B if plan A was don't score.

Kyle Baker said...

Why would I want a fuckin black taco? So the regular one is maybe, what, 49 cents? Or I can pay 89 cents for a black taco that has yet undetermined better qualities than the regular tacos at Taco Smell, other than their oddball coloring?

Steve Sax said...

1-out walk to Helton in the sixth, and Cliff Lee is at 87 pitches. Can you get something started here, Rockies???

Kyle Baker said...

Ask and ye shall receive, Sax!

Kyle Baker said...

I had time to read Anna Karenina in the time it took Helton to score from first.

koufax said...

in the past few games i've noticed that carlos ruiz often flattens out his right leg and rests on his left knee when catching (as you can see in this picture http://tinyurl.com/yz2wb26).

99% of the time when he does this the pitch is a fastball (ive only seen one slider thrown when he makes this position, because obviously if the pitch is in the dirt it would be difficult to stop). Maybe something to take advantage of...

Kyle Baker said...

I'm totally hearing you, Koufax. When I first started noticing it, it seemed to my admittedly less than scientific analysis that the leg flattening usually ended up being a pitch away and low (eg, let's try to get batter to swing at something outside the zone).

Kyle Baker said...

How many base runners have we seen get hung up b/t 2nd and 3rd the last few days?

Steve Sax said...

Hot damn, the Rox score a run on a Tulo double! And then proceeds to get doubled off of SECOND to end the inning.

Sigh.

2-1 Phils after six.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

spanked that dub...

Nostradamus said...

@neeebs,

I do find that I mentally substitute SOSGers avatars when I don't know their faces.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

@Mr. C - Hey, I look exactly like Andre.

Nostradamus said...

@MLASF

Sorry, for some reason my brain stuck you with your previous wild-eyed Ron Artest avi.

What can I say, it's a mysterious place up there.

Steve Sax said...

they've pulled everything they can out of Ubaldo: seven innings of two run ball, and he escapes the jam in the seventh.

Hmm, leaving a pitcher in waaaaaay too long? Yep, that's the Jim Tracy I know.

Kyle Baker said...

Hey Ladies: I look like a cross between Matt Kemp and Ethier.

Kyle Baker said...

Yeah, I liked that crazed Artest .avi from a ways back, MLASF.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

Does anyone know the game temp?

sanfrandodgerfan said...

White hankies...hahaha...

Steve Sax said...

Seth Smith is aboard in the seventh, with one out for the Rox

Nostradamus said...

SFDF

45F per gameday.

Steve Sax said...

fielding error puts smith at second with one out

@sf dodger fan: it was 48 degrees at first pitch in Colorado

Steve Sax said...

Barmes flies to center, so two away in the bottom of the seventh

sanfrandodgerfan said...

Thx for the temps...Splibourgh is hated up here by gnatters,,,feared too...

I look like Gibson...the Kirk variety...

Nostradamus said...

It's getting down to "When do pitchers and catchers report?" time for the Rox.

Steve Sax said...

Cliff Lee, 105 pitches through seven, and he gets out of the jam in the seventh.

Ubaldo is out having pitched 126 pitches over seven innings, and leaving with a 2-1 deficit.

Steve Sax said...

I look like Gibson...the Mel variety. Or the guitar variety.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

"Blogger Steve Sax said...

I look like Gibson...the Mel variety. Or the guitar variety."...

funny...

Nostradamus said...

@sax

Now I'm stuck with a mental image of Mel Gibson with a disproportionately long neck and giant ass, thanks.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

Good eye hero...

Kyle Baker said...

Sax-

You mean you don't take after your dad?

Related: I hear now that Steve Lyons is also going on that Steve Garvey Cougar Cruise.

Steve Sax said...

one out and Frankln Morales cannot find the strike zone. Bases juiced. Will Tracy make a move? I don't know. Will he ask himself this exact question in his mind? Probably.

Steve Sax said...

Natasha Betancourt gets Pedro Feliz to pop foul out. Two out, bases still rancho ardiendoing

Kyle Baker said...

Rancho nothing came of it.

Now come on, Rox! I don't want to have to go three days with no baseball to watch.

Steve Sax said...

Betancourt gets out of Morales' jam! 2-1 going to the bottom of the eighth.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

Near enough to call it 'do or die'...

Steve Sax said...

cliff lee is still going!!!

115 pitches, just walked Dexter Fowler with one out, up 2-1 still in the bottom of the eighth.

Come on, Rox, get to the Phils' pen!

Erin said...

Holy cow. Fowler just jumped over Utley! That was crazy.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

How tall is Fowler?...like 6-8?...

Kyle Baker said...

Rancho almost ardiendo! Madsen comes in to blow it (I hope).

Erin said...

He's got SUPER long legs. I mentioned that to Christine more than once during the last series of the season.

Kyle Baker said...

He really just jumped over/around the left knee of Utley. I could do that (if I weren't all Kirk Gibsoned up now)

Erin said...

Yahoo Sports says he's 6'4".

Erin said...

Well, he ended up jumping over/around his knee, but he was high enough to clear a bent over Utley. It was pretty athletic to do that and not even glance Utley's uniform.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

Tracy Mac leaping ability...

Steve Sax said...

I don't know what just happened there in the Helton AB, but now there's two on with still one out. And Ryan Madson just replaced Cliffy Lee.

Erin said...

Wow. Giant catch there in left field. Thought it was dropping for sure.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

Rox are doing their usual pressure thing but great catch by Francisco...

Steve Sax said...

Tulo swings at a pitch not even NEAR the strike zone to get the second out. Thanks, Troy!

Kyle Baker said...

Ben Francisco pulled an anti-Matt Holliday.

Steve Sax said...

Is Giambi still juicing?

We're about to find out.

Kyle Baker said...

Porn 'stache!

sanfrandodgerfan said...

HELL YES!...

Erin said...

I don't think they got Giambi to hit singles, but I guess that works.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

@ Dusty Baker...GAY porn 'stache...

Kyle Baker said...

I think Giambi probably hits ON singles.

Kyle Baker said...

4 to fucking 2!

Erin said...

There we go!

Kyle Baker said...

@SFDF:

I stand corrected!

sanfrandodgerfan said...

I'm not buying the 'Tracy mojo' thing...too cold in Roxland maybe...but...LA owns these guys this year...

Erin said...

I kind of hate Rockies' fans. I feel a little sick being happy right now. But I just have to remind myself that I'm not rooting for the Rockies; I'm just rooting for the best possible outcome for the Dodgers.

Kyle Baker said...

Thome: Do what Giambi just did.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

Dusty...I live in SF...I see that stuff all the time...West Hollywood has nothing on The Castro or Tenderloin...

Steve Sax said...

4-2 Rox! WOW!

Kyle Baker said...

Erin: The baseball gods understand your predicament. Don't worry about it. It was like us "rooting" for Jints down the stretch.

Kyle Baker said...

The Madson/Lidge competition for suckiness continues.

Steve Sax said...

@Erin, I totally hear you on h ow difficult it is to root for the Rockies. If they actually pull this win out, we're going to have to put up new Scoreboard Watching threads for every lead change tomorrow.

Steve Sax said...

"how" should really be one word, not two. my bad

Steve Sax said...

4-2 it is, going to the ninth...

Kyle Baker said...

Come on and close this down, not-Phils!*

*That's another approach you might use, Erin.

Erin said...

Good one, DB.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

Steve Sax, Your 6:09 Yoda-like...

Steve Sax said...

Huston with a K on Dobbs. One out

Kyle Baker said...

Cook v. Hamels if this goes to the 5th game.

Erin said...

Shouldn't we be hoping for extra innings? I mean, that's the ideal situation.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

So if the Phils win, we see Pedro?..

Kyle Baker said...

Man, those white towels are really distracting.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

I cannot wait for TBS to out of the picture...terrible commentary...

Nostradamus said...

In liking the way this is looking. Can we post a generic "go rox/go phils, boo phils/boo rox thread" tomorrow?

Kyle Baker said...

Horrible out pitch, Street. Your prize: Howard.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

walk him...

sanfrandodgerfan said...

WALK THIS GUY!!!...

Kyle Baker said...

He's about to walk him the old fashioned way.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Ouch.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

I won't say it...

Kyle Baker said...

Rancho looking like extra innings!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

OUCH

Erin said...

I'll take the blame for this one. Not exactly what I wanted when I was hoping for extra innings.

Kyle Baker said...

Takin' it to the Street, indeed.

Kyle Baker said...

Does my bullpen suck? It most certainly does.

JuanLove said...

Tracy is stupid

why have Street, who's looked bad, face Werth who's been hot, when you can face Stairs or Cairo?

hindsight is 20/20 I know, but whatever

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Scott Eyre to close it out? The bullpen really does stink.

Kyle Baker said...

Announcers gave a reason for not using Lidge, but I'm not buying it.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

Liner to the ankle...

sanfrandodgerfan said...

NOT!...

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I'm prepared for a Philly victory, and a loss!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

The Colorado season rests on the shoulders of Todd Helton.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

And now Tulo.

JuanLove said...

Culowitzki

Kyle Baker said...

Can I change avatars since it's between NLDS and NLCS? My current one served us well, but I'm feeling outdated.

Josh S. said...

Lidge to pitch to Tulo?

Walk-off.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Looks like we have a Game 5 on our hands.

Kyle Baker said...

A blown save here would just blow this bullpen apart for the rest of the Phils' post-season.

Josh S. said...

Tujols.

JuanLove said...

dusty, i'm wondering the same

i havent shaved since the colorado series
i'm feeling dirty

my beard is worse than Kershaw's lol

Steve Sax said...

Yikes, this game is craaaaaazy

Steve Sax said...

deuces wild...

JuanLove said...

K coming up
Tulo blows

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Ouchie! Rematch!

Josh S. said...

Damn.

But...

BRING IT.

Erin said...

And now I'm officially nervous.

Kyle Baker said...

JL, you have one of the strongest avatars out there.

My playoff beard is coming in ok. Haven't shaved since day before our NLDS started. My father in law immediately said nice playoff beard when he saw it, but my mother in law was scared by it. So it's working on that level, too.

JuanLove said...

yup

Steve Sax said...

shoot. Well, that's all she wrote for the Rockies.

Phillies vs. Dodgers.

JuanLove said...

Hamels game 1
Happ/Pedro/Blanton game 2
Lee game 3
Happ/Pedro/Blanton game 3

but I guess Lee might go game 2 on 3 days rest

NicJ said...

Meh it's not like lidge was blowing him away. That was a crappy at bat by tulo

MR.F said...

And that's that...

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I am this arrogant.

Kyle Baker said...

Lee might go on short rest, but I'm guessing he doesn't. He's made a lot of pitches in post-season so far, incl. tonight.
