wow what a difference a meaningless game makes. I know Vicente looked good on Sunday but if he had been regular Vicente (5 or 6 innings, 2-3 runs, in and out of trouble), I would wonder if he would have been on the playoff roster at all

Chad's simulated game must not have gone well

No Hudson for game 1...is he hurt or sitting because mini-Manny is playing that much better?

There's an article on the simulated game on dodgers.com, but all it says is that he made 82 pitches over 5 innings.

Rumor has it that Odoggy is 1-15 against Carpenter/Wainright this year.

Wow, riding the Belliard train.

Hudson's absence is pretty huge; TBLA did a good job laying out its surprise as well about O-Dog's O-Mission. Hmm.

Dusty- I disagree with it, think it's an absurd choice, but am I shocked Torre did something I consider insane, stupid, wrong, and detrimental to the team's best chance at success? No.

I hope Padilla pitches well, and I can't wait to see Chad pitch at some point in the playoffs.

Again, I think it's a ridiculous choice, but what do I know, right?

Curious decision from our vantage point, but since none of us (that I know of) has any perspective from the coaches on this (yet), we're left to opine.

Belliard for O-dawg is a no-brainer. MSTI reported that earlier. He can't hit Carpenter. In the mean time, I think most of us were expecting Bills to flip the play-off switch and bring it vs. the Cards. We'll have to wait until the "if necessary" game to find out.

Let's put it simply, if we were to lose 1 and 2, do we really want Padilla in 3?

@KK:

Do you really think we stand a chance at all if we lose the first two games at home. At that point it wouldn't really matter.

"Let's put it simply, if we were to lose 1 and 2, do we really want Padilla in 3?"

No, I'd want Kuroda (and a STIFF drink), but I'm fine with Padilla. I want Chad to be awesome Chad, but he's clearly not at the moment. And basically, no one has time to wait for him to find himself. It's sad, but thems the brakes.

Josh S. said...

Sorry...them's the breaks.

Anyone have a reference to how Bills pitched in the simulated game yesterday? I know his overall stats have been mentioned, but is there anything out there about how well he did (or didn't) specifically?

Maybe it just came down to if we need to throw at someone's head, we know VPad will but Bills won't. (<==that was a joke, for the record)

If we're down 0-2, then I'm ready to concede the series. I think Padilla's got enough in him anyway to really be effective if it became a do-or-die start. He's cold-blooded.

You know, listening to all of these pundits talk about how the Rockies gave the Dodgers all they wanted in the division is funny, because they never bring up the reason why the Rockies didn't win the division...they lost 14 of 18 to the Dodgers...14 of 18!!! I mean has a playoff team been so owned?

JuanLove said...

speaking of the Rockies, I dont want to be mean and laugh, but their game 3 starter is gonna be Jason Hamel

Cliff Lee to get ball for Phils in Game 1. De La Rosa out for NLDS.

I am a bit surprised that Torre decided to go with Belly 2.0 instead of O-Dog. Torre is usually the kind of guy that sticks with the guy he brought to the dance. Not that I'm complaining. Even with a bad groin Belly 2.0 can get a hit.

Lineup looks good to me. Glad Chad is getting a chance in the playoffs, got a gut feeling he'll come through for us.

Catchers: Martin, Ausmus

Starters: Wolf, Kershaw, Padilla, Bills

Relievers: Broxton, Sherrill, Kuo, Beilisario, Troncoso

The main problem with Thome is that if he is to get on base, you have to burn a backup to pinch-run for him. I guess that puts extra pressure on him to homer :)

Neeebs (The Original) said...

I would have swapped EyeChart for Thome for the reasons stated by MLSF.

chexxum said...

It's probably a good thing Thome doesn't get on base very often then.

(BA-ZINGA!)

Kyle Baker said...

Definitely would have gone w Eye Chart, in my opinion. He showed in the last game (exhibition as it may have been) that he could not only field but also hit. More than Thome can say on both accounts. Then, if (I mean when!) we get to the WS, Thome comes into play as DH perhaps.

rbnlaw said...

I fully agree with the sentiments regarding Eye Chart. Can hit, can run, can field, has a ton of playoff and WS experience.

Kyle Baker said...

Right-o, RB. And it this point it's about versatility, mainly, for this kind of roster spot. Thome can do one thing, Eye Chart can do many. Same on the pitching side with Weaver.

Fred's Brim said...

How about Eye Chart over Loretta? Or do we need that right handed bat?
