Clayton Kershaw (0-0, -.--) vs. Adam Wainwright (0-0, -.--).
What, we don't even get to bask in the afterglow of the Dodgers' Game 1 victory for at least 24 hours? There's no reason to believe Adam Wainwright will be as ineffective as Chris Carpenter was last night, but there's also no reason to believe Clayton Kershaw can't be much more effective than Randy Wolf was. Although stranding more men than "Lost" can be frustrating, it beats the alternative: more whiffs than alumni of "Friends" and "Seinfeld" combined. (Note: SoSG is not a Nielsen blog.)
Matt Kemp's highlight blow last night makes it tempting to overlook his defensive lapses to begin and end the game (although the first-inning misplay was largely Ronnie Belliard's doing). Let's hope Gold Glove-Bison returns today. Also overlooked from last night: James Loney and Casey Blake, each 2-for-4 at the plate. With offense again being at a premium today, let's also hope the Dodgers can start a rally before getting two outs.
Does it sound like I'm complaining? Sorry, I don't mean to sound ungrateful. Guess a four-hour nail-biter will do that to you. Today's a new day; the sun will be out, the shadows will be looming. And the Dodgers have the momentum (for what it's worth).
GO BLUE!

Was hopping O-Dog would get the start. Hopefully Belly can bounce back.
Headed out to pick up my boss, get some ales in, and congregate around the Loge Lounge before settling into my seats.
You boys behave yourselves in the GT today, ok? None of this "Fight for Your Right (to Party)" video scenarios like what happened a couple of weeks ago! Orel is still trying to get the wine stains out of the white carpet.
Thank goodness for Slingbox
Getting all wound up. still have a a couple of hours to burn before I have to hit the road for the ravine, but productivity is definitely suffering.
Albert Pujols:
The Greatest Kickball Player in the Game
I think it was MTSI that made a case for belli2 starting because of way better numbers against Wainer (does he have a nickname?)
I'm sure o dog will get a start soon.
WainWRONG, amirite?
(I am right.)
Well played Josh, well played.
if belly 2.0 has a rough day at the plate, i am starting the free o-dog campaign.
Release the Hound?
trying out a new avatar tonight
Having a little carnitas michoacan before the game.
Productivity is definitely down here. Got my radio on and waiting to hear those golden tones of Vin Scully. Go Dodgers!
Now at the Loge Terrace downing a hefeweizen (3d base)
When the Dawg came in to pinch run last night, I couldn't help but notice his body language. He seemed a bit "miffed."
Need to come out aggressive and knock the Cards back into the deck.
Let's get this shit started!
Hey neeebs,
Where's Carnitas Michocan? Is it off Echo Park Blvd?
We can still lose today and be 1-1 going back to St. Louis for two. Today is just as important; Kershaw has got to be on.
Let's go, Dodgers!
@rbn
I have no idea. Its really close to the stadium. My wingman navigated me there.
OK, this is cool. I'm mapping out the route to St. Genevieve HS for my wife (the Saints of St. Anthony HS are taking on the dreaded Valliants of St. Genevieve in volleyball today) and I notice that her route will invariably take her past Dodger Stadium. As I zoom in to look at the stadium, certain "landmarks" pop up on the map. One was the Shortstop; the other El Compadre Mexican Restaurant.
I love modern technology.
Let's go let's go let's go let's go
Argh! It's the reptilian one, leading off for the Cards! AHHHHHHHHHH
It was great to be at the game last night. Never seen a Dodger post-season win in person before.
But tonight I've got SOSG game thread duties. Go Blue!
Geico?
Slash with the national anthem!
Vin Scully is talking to me. Life is good.
word to that, Q7!
Did Slash pull a Hendrix?
Siddown, Pornstache!
Great pitch Kersh!
On your feet, Dodger fans!
1-2-3 inning! Love it!
1-2-3 inning for Kershaw! 16 pitches!
1-2-3! Time to run Wainwirght just like his buddy Carpenter.
Three up three down for Kershaw! 0-0 after a half-inning.
Make that 17 pitches!
COL 5, PHI 4, bot 9
Phils have 2 on, 2 out
Shane Victorino up. Huston Street still pitching.
Two on, two out for the Phillies in the bottom of the ninth
I'm pulling for the Rockies here.
Vin droppin Dubya-Dubya-Two knowledge!
That almost hit Furcal.
Street really burying balls in the dirt. Nice saves by Yorvit.
@Orel. Same here. I hope those two beat each others brains out in a full 5 game series.
Line drive to Barmes! Rox win!
Rockies win.
Way to work it, Raffy.
Furcal 7-pitch AB. Moral victory?
Kemp Ks. Tough curve.
Wainwright touching 95 mph.
Andre just looked at two straight 95-mph fastballs.
Three. Caught looking. Why?
hmm, okay. 2Ks for wainwright in the first. 0-0.
Wainwright is on. No shock there. It's a long game.
Maybe we can steal first.
SHIT
dammit
DAMNIT!
Damn. Well they scored 1st last night too.
Feh.
This happening last night would have been way worse, though.
i can't stand Holliday
Holliday homers on a 73-mph curveball.
Keep them to solo HRs, Clayton.
cmon guys
Blake can't barehande the slow bouncer by Ludwick. Not a great inning so far.
Where is Mary Hart?
settle down, Clayton, we'll be fine...
Jam shot bloop single for Molina.
more trash
A bloop!?!
Well, now the triple play is in order.
Exactly the type of inning that could unnerve a young pitcher. C'mon, Kershaw!
Okay, we saw one of those frickin' bloopers in the first inning last night, too.
Double play ball right here...
Vin has so far referred to Ryan Ludwick as both "Vern Ludwick" and "Ludwig".
Oh for crap's sake, catch these bloops!
KKershaw! Now lets turn two.
K.
Okay, now we can get the double play.
DeRosa Ks on a 82-mph...slider? One out.
Hola, SOSG peeps! Looking forward to another great game today...hopefully the boys will settle down here.
Woot DP!
6-4-3!
yessir! let get this back!
Way to go Kersh! Now lets get that run back.
Anyone else think showing these sexy women, then saying "Black taco" is a little......odd.
BOOM There's the double play we wanted!
Loney HR, you heard it here first
Vin is waxing poetic on the shadows
cmon guys, let's break the seal
Oh well, so much for that HR thought. Next AB, then.
We haven't hit the ball out of the infield yet, in two innings.
Way to have the shades on, Ethier.
looks like we're going to need that bullpen early again today. 8 pitches to wainwright?
ugh not Lugo - that guy is a bum
i hate that iguana
Ladies and gentlemen: Julio Lugo with a double, ensuring Pujols will bat this inning. Shee-it.
Cardinals 3-for-15 with RISP so far
Orel, Lugo could get doubled off of second. Or picked off.
Nice block by Russell.
That is true, Sax. And Manny could hit a HR.
Kershaw already at 50 pitches. Garland will be in next.
come on, clayton
2 out. Now the battle begins......or an IBB.
do we IBB pujols?
5-3. Lugo stays at second. Time to IBB Pujols.
Cards now 3-for-16 with RISP
ugh i dont like this
Albert looks unimpressed.
Okay, IBB it is.
Way to wriggle out of it, Kershaw! Still 1-0 Cards!
All right!
In play, out(s)
Great job Kersh!
I like walking PooHoles.
I don't like facing a Mad HollyDay.
3-for-17 with RISP
Whew. . .
let's get some MO
(not you, Rick)
Off to the other side. Switching to radio.
yes! and Pujols and Holliday are gone until the next time through the lineup
let's get somebody on base
This "bend, don't break" defense of the Dodgers reminds me of the old UCLA defense.
See you on the other side, Orel.
Positive omen: the radio lead-in song here is Hall and Oates' "Out of Touch".
We're going to score. Hall and Oates will make it so.
Oh lame.
well at least Belli2 hit it out of the infield
dammitall!
we aren't very lucky today so far
wow, nice catch (unfortunately)
Ugh. I think the Dawg's wrist must be bothering him more than we're being lead to believe.
But then, Torre is not one to mislead.
Wainwrong on his way to a CG.
russell martin, continuing to be toothless...sigh.
we've cleared the pitcher at least
but that's what happens when the opposing pitcher is perfect through 3
Wainwright makes quick work of us the first pass through the lineup. Only 40 pitches, too.
I think we'll break through second time through the order. (Been thinking that since the 1st inning, but I was holding out hope for the bottom half of the lineup).
time for a coke and some cheez-its
Wainwrong sucks.
what happened to all of those Dodger base runners from last night?
DIE, LUDWICK, DIE!
Which of course is German for "The, Ludwick, The"
Please stop talking about the shadows.
gawd - the tension just jumps off the scale when Steiner and Monday check in
did Ronald Bellisario pitch that inning?
Clayton settling down. This is our inning.
Not to perpetuate the conversation, but I'm with you Josh.
1-2-3, nine-pitch inning. Way to go, Clayton!
Did I mention I also hate Matt Holliday?
The shadows comment was aimed at the announcers, not anyone here, btw.
I have perfect TV/radio sync today, if anyone cares.
I care, Josh. I care.
Everytime I hear something about the shadows I think of this
I think of Kaz Ishii getting his forehead cracked. Ugly.
Wow, Adam Wainwright has a no-hitter going!
A NO-HITTER!
Imagine that?
DRE!!!!!
YOU DID IT SAX!
ANDRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!
YEAH ANDRE
NO MORE NO HITTER!!!
Nice going, Sax!!!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
DREDAD!!!!!
I think Steve Sax gets credit for breaking the no-hitter.
Dre rocks Wainwright!
Epale, everyone!
Now it's time to take a trip to Mannywood.
Nice job, Sax!
Now that's what I call a moon shot!
A wet diaper made me miss Dre's homer!
My son's diaper, not mine.
I mean, uh...nevermind.
The Ethier Strikes Back
Black boots, black pants, Black taco? ewwww...
hi karina! nice timing!
Had to rewind the DVR and get my Zombie Nation on.
cmon Clayton - these are the bums of their lineup. Get them out!
When did a World Series celebration become more than just giving the pitcher a pat on the back?
Man on second, one out. Come on, Clayton!
Runner in scoring position, thank god, now the Cards will start getting out.
K the lizard, Kershaw!
that's the Lugo i love
Come on, Kershaw, keep it coming
Nice, PB. Nice.
now get Ryan and deal with Pujols next inning
Okay kids, let's get this GT to the next page.
yes I like it!
SIDDOWN, STIRRUPS
YES! New tactic. Walk the first batter, throw a wild pitch to get him the 2nd. Then getting the next 3 guys will be easy.
Si se puede! We goin' all da weigh dis yeer!
3-for-19 with RISP! Clayton's second K makes sure that Rasmus's leadoff single doesn't come around to score!
1-1, middle 5
it's Beard time
@Fred's Brim i just got home, i was desperate and traffic didn't help the cause (i didn't pick up my season tickets because i was late for the game, i'll pick up them very first thing in the morning).
@Mr LASF si se puede! si se puede!
karina, is the first game tomorrow?
C'mon, Belly 2.0, redeem yourself.
In honor of Rick Monday, I'm enjoying time off from a good union job.
This is a big inning for Kershaw. Come on Clayton.
did they let us hit that inning? i sneezed a couple of times and the inning was over
agreed PB - he's gotta be tough
OK, I'm back from the Blue Screen of Death scare.
What'd I miss?
DOH!
Need a shut down sixth.
Time to wipe out PooHoles.
If they are patient they are in an 0-2 hole instantly. I guess hope for extra innings.
@Fred's Brim yes, it is, which means i have to wake up at 4 am, so i can make to the game early, traffic gets unbelievable heavy and it could take a couple of hours to be there...when most of the time, i can get to the game in 30 minutes from my house.
Well, that could've gone worse. Ok Kersh, lets get a DP.
Argh^2
Still hasn't homered. That's good.
FJL has gotten a hit in every post-season game he's started (nine total). So he's due...too bad it wasn't in the fifth inning.
Charley's been watching the National Parks documentary on PBS
That's not going to get out of here.
Keep it coming, Clayton!
hehe karina - better set your alarm now!
haha thanks, MLASF
@ Josh S 4.34p: LOL. Nice.
I hope that you have your peanuts at the ballpark where they belong; not in your paycheck.
