More Disses Of The Dodgers

Fox Sports.com ranks the Dodgers seventh among all postseason teams. Just to calibrate, that's one notch above a non-existent team in the eighth spot, who is still waiting to find out if they can occupy the last playoff role and the honor of playing the Yankees by qualifying with the worst playoff-eligible record in the major leagues (a 86-76 record, as currently owned by both the Tigers and Twins (hence the 163rd game), would place them two games behind the Giants):

There are just too many rotation issues and offensive woes to trust the Dodgers. They're arguably playing the worst of any team, regardless of league, going into the playoffs. Manny Ramirez can immediately change that if he gets hot, but his performance over the final week doesn't lend confidence to that happening. The rotation is very unsettled and doesn't stack up well to the Cardinals' and Phillies'. At their core, the Dodgers are a very talented team, but they're just not playing well enough in any one facet to think they'll get more than two wins this postseason.

Not included in the litany of Dodger insults are the facts that we don't wash behind the ears, we forget to put the seat down sometimes, and we refuse to throw away or stop wearing that lucky t-shirt that we wear to all Dodger games, despite the fact that it has holes in the front panel and it smells like it's been dragged behind a New Orleans garbage truck.

I think I understand the logic here. Let me see if I can summarize.

1. The Yankees and the Red Sox are the best teams. This has always been so.

2. The Yankees and Red Sox are both in the American League. Thus the American league is the best league.

3. The Angels are also in the American League. They sometimes beat the Yankees, even though they are far inferior, because they are scrappy and cunning.

4. The Cardinals and Phillies recently beat obviously superior American League teams in the World Series. Clearly, they are the best of the inferior National League.

5. The Rockies once won a bunch of games in a row to get the honor of being a doormat for the Red Sox.

6. The Dodgers have not recently appeared in a post-season series versus the Yankees or Red Sox. Thus they are inferior.

7. The Twins and Tigers are having a playoff to decide who will lose to the Yankees.

Luckily they forgot to mention our cooties.

There's evil afoot. EEEEVILLLLL.

Do garbage trucks in New Orleans really smell that bad? I've never been.

Steve Sax said...

@rbnlaw: to be fair, I'm usually too hung over to tell how bad they smell. And I probably smelled a lot worse.

@RB

Yes, they do smell that bad. That is some stuh-HAY-ank.

MC: What section you sitting in?

I'm going to Game 2 as well, on the Loge Level.

Nostradamus said...

@neeebs,

I'm also in loge. Third base side, I believe (I'll have to check the section #.)

Kyle Baker said...

I'm going to game 1. Loge level section 111.

Mr. C-

Have we always been at war with Oceania?

Neeebs (The Original) said...

DB:

We were never at war with Oceania. We are at peace with Oceania.

War is Peace.

Keep it down, you two. Do you want *them* to haul you off to room 101?

Kyle Baker said...

Oh, right. Got it now, Neeebs.

Winston Smith's job would have been so much easier with blog because he could have just deleted his comments and re-posted with "updated" information.

Kyle Baker said...

Sorry, Mr. C.

Watching MLB Network piece on Cardinals just now. Makes me want to have Two Minutes Hate.

Nostradamus said...

Now that I think about it, Room 101 is almost exactly like the set of "Baseball Tonight"

Under the spreading chesnut tree, I sold you and you sold me.

Orwellian references in a Dodger blog. In a Tigers blog, I would have expected this. But a Dodgers blog?

Careful, as Cardinals fans don't think we're very literate.

Steve Sax said...

Neeebs: thanks for the idea. See 9am tomorrow.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

@Sax;

At least I inspired someone today.

Kyle Baker said...

Cardinals fans and others don't think we're very literate? Oh, so we're education underdogs as well. Great, let them think that; we'll use that as a rallying cry as we say more intellignet things and make more obscure literary references than they do.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

DB: all things being equal, I'd prefer the standard retort of, F**k You, over the "our OPS is better than yours."

Kyle Baker said...

Totally agree, Neeebs. A good *big middle finger* says all that is needed, clearly and concisely.

I couldn't get Loge or Field. I'm in Club, far left corner, on top of Manny. But first row. Game 2.

Kyle Baker said...

All you game 2 folks...I'm feeling left out.

Hell, I think I see myself in Dusty's pic.

Get used to being dissed, remember last year, all but one ESPN expert picked the Cubs...then when we won, joined the bandwagon and picked us vs the Phils. Back then, we didn't have the record...now we have the record, but not the glamour.

Whatever.

The Dodgers need to remember the '88 Bob Costas incident.
