Dodgers / Phillies NLCS: It Is ON

PHILLIES 5, ROCKIES 4

Colorado scored three in the bottom of the eighth to give them a 4-2 lead, but then the Phillies started Taking It To The Street, bombing Huston for three runs right back. Scott Eyre and Brad Lidge combine to work the ninth inning--Lidge only pushed into service begrudgingly after Eyre left two on with two out--and the Phillies win another squeaker, 5-4, in Denver. Cliff Lee threw 117 pitches in the effort.

Bring on the Phillies, starting Thursday!

jesus hates the phillies

Chris Berman just told me that Columbus discovered America. *sigh*

Kyle Baker said...

I thought jesus hated the yankees?

Paul said...

Plenty of Jesus hate to go around.

I am kind of glad it is the phils. No one will pick us to win again.

Kyle Baker said...

Now Bills might get another chance to throw at Victorino, thereby putting that controversy to bed. If not, Kuroda is available to fill in!

Jim Tracy is a goddamned moron. Ryan Howard hits .207/.298/.356 against left-handed pitching. After his closer gives up a single and walks the tying run aboard, he leaves him in to face the league's leading RBI man? With Joe Beimel available?

I am soooo glad he's not managing the Dodgers anymore. Seriously.

Kyle Baker said...

Rob, you had me at "Jim Tracy is a goddamned moron."

Eckersley just picked Philadelphia to win...Lets party like its 1988

Kyle Baker said...

GLG:

I love that snap judgment by Eckersly. Let's see...starting pitching for Phils - sketchy past Lee, who won't even go until game 2 or 3. Horrible bullpen. Bats mostly quiet. Or Dodgers - lights out pitching so far, best bullpen, offense clicking, beat two of top three Cy Young candidates. Yeah, let's go with Phils.

Throw us that backdoor slider, Eck, I dare ya *points to right field pavilion*

NicJ said...

Eck made his prediction while smugly polishing his 1988 world series ring, oh wait....

Paul said...

Well as Rick Flair said to be the man you gotta beat the man.

Steve Sax said...

Jim Tracy on the postgame show is so nonplussed, if I was a Rox fan, I'd be pissed

MR.F said...

True dat, MRLASF

Kyle Baker said...

"Well as Rick Flair said to be the man you gotta beat the man."

Wouldn't he say "To be the man you gotta beat the man, woooooo!"

Paul said...

Dusty

I was hanging that slider so you would knock it out.

Wooooooooo!

Kyle Baker said...

TBS announcing crew for the NLCS: Chip Caray, Ron Darling and Buck Martinez.

*hangs self*

Paul said...

I would rather hear gorilla monsoon and lord Alfred Hayes

Kyle Baker said...

That had me laughing, Paul.

I think Eckersley hasn't been able to adjust his jaw since that cool October night when it was left gaping for two hours.

Paul said...

Anyone know when official gametimes come out?

I hope pandemonium breaks out at the ravine on Thursday!

Kyle Baker said...

I want this to be as rowdy as the World Quidditch Cup. It's ON like D.K.

Don't know re game times past the first announced one.

NicJ said...

I hope Ethier can figure out how to hit a lefty by thursday.

Paul said...

Nic

Will it count if it he can hit a righty nicknamed lefty?

@Dusty

At least it isn't Joe Buck and Tim McCarver again so we can hear both of them go on every 5 minutes about how Manny was chased out of Boston and that he was suspended for 50 games this year

Nostradamus said...

Ugh, looks like more Vin simulcast. Chip Carey is intolerable.

NicJ said...

well i just went to go see actually how poor the phils do against left handed pitching. They rank second in the league, that is not at all comforting. We ranked third.

NicJ said...

that stat was OPS by the way.

JuanLove said...

Prime Ticket right now

Matt Kemp is being interviewed during the Clippers broadcast

JuanLove said...

eh, nothing much said.

Said he watched the Phils/Rox game. Said he's ready for them. blah blah blah

Then they talk about bball. They're teasing him for being a Laker fan instead of a Clipper fan.

Said he's got muscles after being told that basketball players think baseball players dont have muscles.

so there you go

The ESPN pundits are in. Neel turned his back on us!

Josh S. said...

All the Dodgers have to do is repeat what they did during the regular season, taking 4 of 7 from the Phils.

Oh, and what happened at the end of that 4th win?

Sure, they have Lee and Pedro now, but don't you think Manny is telling the guys everything he knows about Pedro?

NicJ said...

And we played all those games minus manny.

Hopefully Hamels won't dominate us as per usual.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Purple Row fans really don't like us. One even compared us to (gag) the Yankees.

NicJ said...

Well i guess 6 World Series Titles seem like 26 when you have ZERO.

So much for the NL West unity.

I hope the Lakers kick the Nuggets ass again in the playoffs.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Buster Olney: I'm in love with Brad Lidge. His 1.1 scoreless innings in the playoffs really indicates he is turning around. He probably is the best closer in the playoffs, and I say this even though there are plenty of other closers whom I am ignoring right now.

Dave Winfield: I too am in love with Lidge. He truly has returned to championship form after striking out the clearly uneasy Troy Tulowitzki, even though he has a WHIP of 2.00 in the playoffs.

Nostradamus said...

@MLASF

Re purple row. Little brother syndrome. The Dodgers and Jints get the history and the big rivalry, the rest of the west gets hand-me-downs. San Diego gets similarly bent, especially when LA fans don't care.

Nostradamus said...

Shit, that was kind of a Yankee fan thing to say.

We have met the enemy and he is us.

Heard someone on the radio today say the perfect motto for this series:

Revenge is a dish best served Blue.

Josh S. said...

I love that both LC series are East vs. West. How very old school.

From Tommy's twitter:

"The Phillies win reminds me of what I've told people for years: Pennants, playoffs and the Wolrd Series are won and lost in the bullpen."

If Tommy's right (and he always is), edge us!

Not sure if anyone posted this yet, but the schedule right now is:

All times pacific
Game 1: 5:07, Hamels vs. Wolf
Game 2: 1:37, TBA vs. TBA
Game 3: 5:07, TBA vs. TBA

the pitching match ups seem to be pretty even in games 2 and 3.

Oh, another thing I heard on the radio today. This one courtesy of ESPN.

DYK- The Angels were just the 3rd team in playoff history to comeback from a deficit of 2+ runs, with the bases empty, and two out in the 9th inning.

The other two teams: the 1986 Red Sox, and the 1997 Dodgers

Fucking morons.

NicJ said...

Ah yes 1997, i remember it like it was yesterday.

Yesterday was thursday right?

ESPN says it was so it must be true.
