Clearly, The Bigelow Tea Is Working

Joe Torre was kicking back yesterday, during his between-series break (or at least as much as one could believe Mike Scioscia is calm, as the article describes both as "laid-back" and I can't imagine the latter being calm at all):

LOS ANGELES — Dodgers Manager Joe Torre looked laid-back late Tuesday afternoon as he sat down at a news conference at Dodger Stadium. Torre, dressed in blue jeans, an untucked dress shirt and a baseball cap from a Hawaiian golf resort, seemed as relaxed as ever.

Apparently, he wanted to make sure his players stayed that way, too, before their National League Championship Series against the Philadelphia Phillies begins here Thursday.

The Dodgers, after clinching their first-round series in St. Louis on Saturday, flew back to Los Angeles on Sunday and had Monday off. Their brief workout Tuesday was closed to the news media. It was the team’s longest break since the All-Star break.

I sense Jeff Weaver's "influence".

MLB.com is comparing the two teams, position by position, and they give us the edge in catcher, 3B, outfield, starting pitching(!), middle relief, closer, bench, and manager.

The one that irks me though, is Philly having the edge in FANS. What?!

Clearly the Bigelow wasn't working for Captain Lou Albano, who died at age 76. RIP, Capt Lou!

Don't know if I should pour some out or, more appropriately, shoot a rubber band.

MLB.com: Come to my house and you'll get a fistful of Blue.

Fan edge? FUCK THAT. Phiwws have a ton of enthusiastic phans, I won't deny that. But it's not as if we don't. And we have home field advantage. Why is this even a consideration? How was it measured? Fuckabunchathat.

oh no!

*ties black rubber band into beard*

I always liked that Captain Lou song on that WWF album

"Capn Lou, Capn Lou, Capn Lou!"

FB, drink for making me think of that WWF album!

If it's the same one I'm think of, it had Hillbilly Jim singing "Grab Them Cakes."

My childhood was misspent.

and Mean Gene did a version of Tutti Fruti!

uhoh here's another time waster

i am gonna have to find that album somewhere...

I was so wrong - JYD did "Grab Them Cakes." Shoot me!

FB, I'm going to get fired now that you showed that site to me.

Except that I'm home telecommuting, watching the England match.

My god. The genius that was the WWF. I cannot get my son to understand just how great the awesomeness of the WWF was.
Jesse The Body? Rowdy Roddy? Jimmy freakin Superfly Snuka? I still remember when Piper smashed a coconut on Snuka's head during an interview.

Classic.

And who could forget Tito Santana?

My favorite was, and still is, from WCW; Nature Boy Ric Flair. . .WHOOOOO!

RB, stylin and profilin'.

Oh, and no one is mentioning the effect Bee Eye Pee Tickess is having on Manny.

A couple of months ago I went to my friend's house to have a few beers and watch the Saturday Night Main Event DVDs.

The plan was to watch a few matches then head out to some local pubs. We were so nostalgic about the stupid matches we never left and wasted 2 1/2 hours watching old school WWF. Those guys were living cartoon characters.

No one should ever give the fan edge to a team that is from Philly, those fans will turn on you quicker than Macho Man will hit you with a steel chair.

oooooh yea dig it!

Paul, that sounds like good clean fun! I can't remember the grocery list Mrs. Dusty told me this morning, but I can remember Wrestlemania I like it was yesterday.

Did you see any matches with Jake the Snake? I used to love him when he was in Mid-South Wrestling before he went big time with WWF, then got all christian of all things later in life. Maybe he felt he needed redemption for all the DDTs he had put on people.

Dusty,

Yes Jake the Snake was in the mix. They showed the match when he DDT'd Steamboat on the concrete.

He was a baaaad dude.

Kyle Baker said...

Steamboat was one of my least favorite guys out there. How you gonna be badass with a name like "Ricky"? Way too forced. I'm glad Jake pounded his face into the concrete.

My favorite Jake the Snake moment was when he came back for a Royal Rumble, carrying a large sack over his shoulder.

We all know what was in the sack (that's what she said).

JtS enters the ring and walks to the center unbothered. He flips the sack open and out comes the biggest yellow python I've ever seen, wriggling about the ring. The funniest thing was watching all the other guys in the ring jump out (but not over the ropes). Funnier still were their expressions.

I believe Vader was in the mix. It looked like he was shitting his pants.

Kyle Baker said...

Big Van Vader? No! Totally forgot about him until you mentioned that, Dr. Geek.

It's time! It's time! It's Vader time!

Gawd I remember Ricky Steamboat. Another one of those muscled Pacific Islanders you thought could never lose, yet always found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I remember reading about the Iron Sheik being arrested for drunk and disorderly in some backwater burgh. He had been drinking with some other wrassler who was supposed to be his enemy (name slips me). The biggest shock was finding out the guy had a Hispanic surname. I couldn't believe he wasn't Middle Eastern.

I wasn't that young, but apparently I was gullible.

Kyle Baker said...

Maybe they were enemies, but in a drinking contest like the one at the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

But hey...heeeeeey....if these guys were all enemies, how did they all get together to make a nice wrestling album? Wouldn't there be fights? Something doesn't add up here.

Wrestling is fake, Dusty!
