Game 134 Thread: September 1 vs. Phillies, 12n

Clayton Kershaw (11-8, 3.01) vs. Roy Oswalt (9-13, 3.12).

As we turn the corner into the Dodgers' final month (save a stub series against fellow NL West cellar dweller Arizona in October), our team doesn't have a lot for which to play. But driving the Phillies batty by beating their pair of Roys (ace Halladay, bested by Kuroda on Monday; and rented ace Oswalt, who takes the mound today) would indeed be sweet. It ain't much, but at this stage, minor victories still count for something.

SoSG Sax will be sneaking out of work today to catch the businessperson's special, baking to death in the field level. Look for the guy sweating to death but insisting on another $12 beer for hydration.

Back then they were albums. Gee, we are showing our age : )

karina said...

@Neeebs did you have to enjoy Cerati's record yet? did you like it?

Mr. Customer said...

@karina

Damn, that's not good! What's winter ball without las √°guilas?!

Josh S. said...

Based on record alone, here's how this year compares to the previous 6 of the McCourt Era.

After 134 games, 68-66.

Better than:
2008 (65-69)
2005 (61-73)

Worse than:
2009 (79-55)
2007 (70-64)
2006 (72-62)
2004 (78-56)

What does this mean? Nothing, other than I need to stop looking at B-R and get back to work.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

What's this about hockey tickets?

Mr. Customer said...

@Josh

Yes, but what rhymes with "Lampreys"?

Damn you and Carl Linnaeus both.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

ROB DIBBLE WAS FIRED!!!! LET US DANCE IN THE STREETS NAKED!!!

Mr. Customer said...

Now THAT news brightens my day.

Mr. Customer said...

I mean the fired part. The naked part, too, but to a lesser extent.

karina said...

@Mr C the solution is to move home games to Ciudad Bolivar. Do you know what's close to Ciudad Bolivar? the part of the venezuelan Amazon forest. Ten hours from there? the frontier with Brazil. I was there, we couldn't reach the frontier because stoopid centennial tree fell into the road and we got stuck for hours.

We're delighted because this situation is mostly fault of the Chavez government and other part, it's responsibility of the team. I'm tempted to demand a refund of my season tickets

karina said...

Mr C what do you mean with "the naked part, to a lesser extent"?

Mr. Customer said...

That's terrible, K! I hope they get everything in game shape before the season kicks off.

Neeebs said...

@Karina:

I like Cerati's CD, but its much mellower than his Soda Stereo stuff. A good listen, though. However, La Chilena hijacked the CD and I haven't seen it since.

@MC: Naked huh? I think I'm going blind.

Mr. Customer said...

@karina

I have no mixed feelings about Rob Dibble going to the curb.

I definitely have mixed feelings about there being naked in the streets as MLASF suggests. Let's face it, not all naked dancing is created equal.

...not naming any names.

...except Neeebs.

Mr. Customer said...

^there's supposed to be another "dancing" in there.

MR. F said...

Bahahahaha Rob Dibble.

We'll always have schadenfreude.

MR. F said...

Damn you people who get to leave work at approximately 5 pm.

Mr. Customer said...

No such luck here, Mr. F.

Though I'm not sure I would qualify what I've been doing today as "work", per se.

MR. F said...

Ahh.

The downside of day games: there's like no activity afterwards.

karina said...

@Mr F do you feel like commenting Colorado-Arizona?

karina said...

@Neeebs the more I know about La Chilena, the more I like her :)

@Mr LASF direct and indirect followers, when you, Dusty and Josh stopped following him, I lost track :)

karina said...

I have to share this:

watching Jints-Rockies, they were talking about a charity Zito has. Point is there was this girl who couldn't believe they could order garlic fries whenever they want.

Girl was in the cabin and they brought garlic fries so she could believe it.

neat, right?

We're lucky to have Vinny

MR. F said...

It's okay Karina. I have a fantasy football draft in half an hour or so (my friend's league that I was suckered into joining). Plus I still have work to do.

Catching up on top chef. I need to tune my guitar.

Wow I didn't know the 2008 record was that bad at this point. The division was horrid that year.

karina said...

Pods have lost 7 in a row, the Giants can't be the leaders of the division

Fred's Brim said...

why isn't Matt Kemp as good as CarGo?

Paul said...

Why can't Matt Kemp be as good as Matt Kemp?

Steve Sax said...

Rox may have just let this pitchers' duel get away. Wild pitch by Ubaldo with a runner on second, added by a throwing error by catcher Miguel Olivo, scores Darren Ford (who?) from second. Giants take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 8th.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

The Dodgers are likely to call up Justin Sellers on Friday, according to Tony Jackson.

I do not know who he is.

Paul said...

He is the future of this organization?

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Also, Bill Shaikin reports that the McCourts initially considered selling naming rights to Dodger Stadium in addition to slashing payroll to maximize revenue.

Is it just me, or is Shaikin becoming one of the three crack reporters on the divorce (DodgerDivorce and Molly Knight being the other two). He was the guy to break the Shpunt story, afterall.

Steve Sax said...

Rox down to their final out, none on

karina said...

Meh.Jints won :(

Steve Sax said...

SF wins, stays 1.5 GB Philly in the NL WC

MR. F said...

Fantasy football question:
After a few picks, would it be best to draft based on need or should I keep drafting who I think is the best player available, even if say, he's a RB and I already have 2/2 RB starters?

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

@Mr F - That depends on your willingness to trade. If you do have a surplus of top-tier RBs, you could potentially flip one for a better player that wouldn't be available, especially if the team is strapped at that position. I would recommend drafting the best possible for the first few rounds, then go by need.

Fred's Brim said...

can we have another baseball strike please? This season is boiling down to a dripping sack of shit. I might throw myself off a cliff if I have to watch the Giants, Phillies, Yankees, Padres, Reds and/or Braves playing meaningful games in September and October

Fred's Brim said...

I just realized I hate every other team in baseball

Paul said...

I don't hate the padres but if they don't start winning I might start.

karina said...

@Fred's Brim nah, you only hate half of the NL and the Yankees.

I'd rather have the Padres on playoffs than the Giants

Paul said...

The National league is so fucked up all we needed was one decent 10 game strech to be in this thing.

That is how bad it has been for us.

The AG investigating the McCourts? Man how much more can happen.

karina said...

AG?

Paul said...

State Attorney General. Investigating improper money transactions.

MR. F said...

Should I draft a kicker? What about a backup QB?

MR. F said...

I suppose I should draft a kicker, even if it's with the last pick.

NicJ said...

haha, damn Nyjer Morgan got fucked up tonight

NicJ said...

its nice to see the Pads losing so much. They need to get their shit together and keep the gints out of the playoffs though.

NicJ said...

MR F, Yes you need a kicker. and a back up QB would probably be helpful in case your QB goes down for a stretch and because of bye weeks.

MR. F said...

I drafted a kicker at the end. Then I dropped some scrub WR for Mark Sanchez. I don't know who the kicker and scrub WR are.

NicJ said...

what the kickers name?

Josh S. said...

So the Dodgers aren't sellers, but Sellers is a Dodger?

MR. F said...

Lawrence Tynes.

NicJ said...

stealing material from TBLA, josh?

thats ok i steal material from Don Rickles.

Ya hockey puck!!

NicJ said...

Tynes should be decent. Ive heard the wind in the new stadium might be worse than it was before but im sure you'll be fine.

MR. F said...

Oh I just realized that everybody is on waivers right now. I canceled my claim on Mark Sanchez. Hopefully I can just pick him up on Monday. And hopefully Aaron Rodgers does okay.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Aaron Rodgers is probably the second best fantasy QB out there.

NicJ said...

yeah, you will be more than happy with rodgers.

Josh S. said...

I didn't intend to steal from TBLA. It was a pretty obvious gag.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Ray Parker didn't intend to steal from Huey Lewis.

NicJ said...

Parker stole from Lewis?

Thats news to me...

Dusty Baker said...

Mr F you shirked our fantasy league but got suckered into another, different one? We feel shunned! Was it something we said?

Yeah, it was in all likelihood something I said.

MR. F said...

It sure was DB!

I actually do not like football very much, but my friend needed one more player for his league. So I reluctantly agreed. When the SoSG league formed, I figured since I was doing a league already, I could do another one. So I offered to join if you guys were in need of a spot, but it turns out you weren't. So I'm only in one league.

NicJ said...

looks like all the young arms in the back of the SD bullpen are starting to tire out.

I love being right but they are collapsing too early. Dont let the gints take the division!!

I could support the Padres in the post-season, but only if they hold off these Giants.

I need to go find my camo outfits (underneath my flannel shirts, I assume).

Dusty Baker said...

I don't hate Bud Black.

NicJ said...

i still hate the pads, but i hate the gints more.

MR. F said...

When my friends ask me who my most hated MLB team is, I say: "The Padres. The giants are beneath professional baseball."

Paul said...

I still can't get over the fact we have a better record at this point than in 2008.

God the Cubs suck.
