Dodgers sign pitcher Russ Ortiz and outfielder Michael Restovich to Minor League contracts.

I know it's fun to jump on here and go ballistic about a player, but Ortiz has been injured since 2005. He had successful Tommy John surgery in August of 2007, and pitched well for the Astros last year until July. Then he hit the wall that most pitchers who are in their first season after Tommy John surgery run into. Many post-Tommy John surgery pitchers experience a bounce-back season in year 2, so perhaps Ortiz will, too. He pitched well with the Yankees triple A affiliate, pitching 2 shutouts in his 3 starts. He chose to leave because he wasn't added to the roster in time to be on the post-season roster. He's been an MLB Roberto Clemente Award nominee several times, so his 113 major league wins have made him a good major league pitcher, and an excellent hitting pitcher. He helped fuel some of the good offenses he played for by not being an automatic out like most pitchers, thus keeping scoring rallies alive. He's a great character guy, and could help a team in the locker room as well.
