Doh.......Fanerman said the "J" word.
Just?
Fanerman, the prospect of extending the eight-game streak lies in your hands.
Russ looks like he's gonna slip Dusty the tongue.
Anyways, I can't wait for 5:00. The offense should have a fun time. Hopefully Clayton gets that first win.
There are indeed benefits to an early start time...fire up the grill in the backyard!
Steve Sax - The Laker game will be starting just before the Dodger game ends. It was tough flipping between games on Sunday.
I forgot about my personal crusade against Russ Ortiz... which was only a little less harsh than Ali's attacks against Frazier. It was a simpler time back then, before the recession - now, I reserve that kind of venom only for my mortgage broker. (Look soon for my new punching bag: Chien Ming Wang and his 34 ERA)
But I designed this post for you, Delino!
Furcal, SS
Hudson, 2B
Ramirez, LF
Ethier, RF
Loney, 1B
Martin, C
Kemp, CF
Blake, 3B
Kershaw, P
Hitting Kemp 7th with Blake behind him is actually a really solid move. He has Manny/Ethier/Loney/Russ setting the table for him and has a power hitter behind him.
I hate how Joe Torre looks like a genius manager because he manages teams that are "Super Talents". He really doesn't get any flack for the crap he pulls because the teams he manages are so talented it doesn't make a huge difference. Except when guys like Wade, Kuo, Proctor, etc go to the DL. Though, Proctor on the DL is good for everyone.
Fanerman, before the game actually starts, i want you to know that my heart also secretly desires a Pavement reunion... my consolation about that matter is the first solo album by Stephen Malkmus...
Sorry for my random post.
I knew we had a lot.. but when was the last time we, or any team for that matter, had 6 (six!) left handed pitchers on their staff?
Hey Karina, I agree with the need for a Pavement reunion.
Interesting piece on Kim Ng showing on ESPN right now.
Good luck to Eric Collins tonight. Big shoes to fill
Actually, I heard Vin's only a size 9
My gods, the first pitch can't come soon enough...
Who knows, Eric Collins may only be 4'8". I've never seen him.
I hate Minute Maid Park. Are we going to an amusement park or a ballgame?
Almost there Sax
Low and behold, Russ Ortiz walked someone. ;-)
Did I mention that Russ Ortiz walked someone?
How this guy got away with having such crap control all these years is beyond me.
In play, run(s)
So far, he's thrown 14 pitches, only 4 of them have been strikes.
and away we go. . .
Why does Gameday register the coaching visits after pitches have been thrown?
Karina: Speaking of CDs, have you heard the new Gustavo Cerati yet? I can't wait to hear it myself.
are they booing yet?
Man Ram with the RBI
20 pitches and no outs.
Ethier grounds out on a close play, men on 2nd and 3rd.
Gotta love the move on the 3-2 to stay out of the DP
Ortiz looked like he was going to drop to his knees and cry if they didn't make that play.
I will say that Ortiz has lost some weight. Hasn't helped his control.
Break this open James
Man. Manny just missed crushing that ball.
My Loney bobblehead says Yes.
Groundout, but Hudson scores Dodgers 2-0.
In play, run(s)
Come on Russell, swing the bat.
Yeah! Russ with the RBI single. Smacked it. Nice.
Russ swung the bat!
R. Martin, in play (runs) !!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone watching, how's the new play by play guy sound?
Nice lead for Kershaw before he takes the mound.
I do love me the Ortiz.
Hey, I know Kemp is going to have a pretty set table batting seventh behind Ramirez Ethier Loney Martin. But why are we giving fewer at bats to Kemp when he's smoking hot and batting .383?
Wow. Matt must be fooled by the fact that Ortiz is actually throwing strikes.
So far, Eric Collins is doing fine and seems to work well with Steve Lyons.
Matt fooled badly. K. But Dodgers 3-0. Oh and a Wolverine commercial - like we haven't seen enough of these.
Neeebs, are you talking about Ahi vamos?
If so, i adored it!, but i'm a sucker for Cerati, i can't help it, it's bigger than me.
Collins is ok, he is talking a lot though. I thought that was what the color guy was for...
Kemp foul tips out for out #3. See, we should have him batting earlier.
Over/Under on Clayton's K's?
Sax- Don't get ahead of yourself brother. Matt is smoking hot and hitting .383. No need to mess with success.
So I'm just noticing that, on mlb gameday, these in-game video highlights, which we had last year and we've got right now during the preview period, are going to cost $20 for the rest of the season:"Last season's In-Game Video Highlights is now part of Gameday Premium package. Complete game viewing experience with video highlights of selected key plays delivered within minutes."Well, that sucks.
Karina:
No its the new one soon to be released. Check out his website for the video.
Too bad its not new Soda.
Bugs Bunny time.
See you on the flip side. Gotta pick up baby neeebs.
Yeesh Clayton.
Clayton. Just throw Tejada 3 hooks and he will eat some pine.
Wow, the SoSG bar is packed tonight. Great to have you all here.
I'm running to the other side, albeit not to pick up baby neeebs.
I saw that on his website, can't hardly wait!
Unfortunately, it's more likely a Pavement reunion than a Soda Stereo reunion (excepting on a tour that they already did)
Loney Fan, you're my kind of person.
Does Berkman look like he uses eyeliner??
Alex Cora - Kind of.
Uh; oh Kershaw with the breaking ball the berkman hits for a RBI single.
Karina - right back at you.
Sounds like the two of you are bigger fans than I
I think Kershaw should have been throwing more dangerous pitches from the beginning with the big lead to see if he could have gotten strikeouts right from the beginning.
Kershaw kind of hung that bender to Berkman. He should have pulled the string instead.
BTW. Blake DeWitt catches that shot from Berkman.
Kershaw got him swinging at a ball as high as the batters head
Loney Fan - Not too hard to do that with Pence. He can hit, but he swings WAY too freely.
Kershaw is working more than he should with Michaels.
The Whiff.
28 pitches for Kershaw, but we are still up by 2. At least the bullpen is rested and hopefully Hong Chi has worked it out of his system.
When you have the lead and no one on base, pitch to contact. Keep your pitch count down, make it through the seventh and get K's when you need them.
That's my philosophy... not that its correct or anything.
ESPN Gamecast said he needed 31 pitches to get through the first.
Lets hope Kershaw pulls a 9 pitch inning with 2 Ks in the next frame.
Dusto - I don't know if Kershaw's stuff plays that way. His GB rate was decent last year, but he throws a bit hard to try and pitch to contact. This is especially true against a lineup with good FB hitters like Houston has.
C'mon Russ. Walk Kershaw.
Bwahahahahahaha. Ortiz walked Kershaw on 4 pitches.
Dusto, you're a traditionalist.
That's sad, the kid is only 21. He can't hit!
Loney Fan - Kershaw crushed a homer in ST.
The funny thing is, just about the only thing Ortiz does decently anymore is hit.
Clayton's mom and gf want him to shave the chinstrap, acc to charley and rick
Keep pitching inside Clayton. Only good things will follow.
He got Pudge on three strikes!.
2 outs with 5 pitches is more like it.
Of course Ortiz would put together the best AB.
Right, but Ortiz keeps him overworking.
This just in. Russ Ortiz walks Manny.
Andre into the DP DOh!
Big game James in front of the local fans.
What nice about Eric Collins is that he's fairly straightforward, which is keeping Steve Lyons' mugging to a minimum.
I aqree Orel. I think Collins could do the game without Lyons.
Loney hit it hard, but lined out.
Another game with the same feeling that we should be leading by a lot more.
Well, at least James got some lift on a pitch.
Lets see Kershaw go Sean Casey on these guys.
100!
Hello Erin!
I wanted to see a sort of batting practice.
Hi Karina!
Yeah, we should be killing Ortiz already. Let's hope the bats wake up in the next few innings.
Egad Clayton. Should have saved something for this one.
Why are we losing?
Oh no! That was DEEEEP
That's not good.
My dream of being comment 227 continues!
El Caballo 2-run Hr. This is bad.
Seriously. Just gas Michaels and move forward.
Hey, guess who's in line for the win now, Delino?
4-3 stros. Kershaw is a mess tonight.
Well, that helps at least
Well, nice to see Kershaw pull a Mark Langston and pick his way out of trouble.
At least, the Dodgers showed good defense...was that play as good as it reads on Gameday?
Sax, what could be better? getting MLB on Blackberry or paying for the premium Gameday?
Gameday is screwed up.
When Steve Lyons won't shut the hell up about things like the number of balls that Johnny Bench can hold in one hand (7). Eric Collins is trying to move on and get back to baseball.
In the eight-game streak, the dodgers have trailed a total of six innings.
They trail now, 4-3.
Kemp slams it to the asinine mound in center field
I do like the three-base-hit
Help your own cause Clayton.
Sounds like kemp crushed that ball. Men at the corners, one out.
Hey Karina! I'm not going to pay for mlb premium, that's for sure. I'll miss the video highlights, but the extra dials and bells and whistles aren't valuable for me.
Come on Kershaw, get the bunt down!
Argh. They should have just let him swing the bat.
Furcal fouls one back to the press box, and Charley Steiner almost wets his pants
Lyons has been making a good argument since the bunt that Kemp could have easily scored when Pudge threw to second but he was not sneaking down third base line far enough.
Really? Did they really waste Kemp's triple?
On a 3-2 count, Furcal grounds out. Who else feels frustrated?
so, Steve, neither?
Come on Kershaw. Keep it to 4 runs and eat 6 innings. And stop allowing crap hitters to get on.
Ivan Rodriguez and his leadoff single.Bah.
This is giving me a headache.
I am slightly less excited now than I was after the top of the first inning.
Now throw a down and away change.
One away, one to go
For the love of Pete, don't throw Tejada another fastball.
AAAAHHHH!!!
What just happened?
Well, that Gameday line is ugly, even if Andre plowed Tejada at 2B
Karina, I'm pissed we had a one-out triple and wasted it, but I'm more concerned about the minotaur...
Did Ortiz really just K Manny looking?
Ortiz struck out Manny.
Steve, i'm afraid he can't pitch 10 k's in each game.
And with everything going on Lyons would like to talk about the odds that the Dodgers have never before faced pitchers on back to back nights with the initials R.O. as we will do tomorrow.
Somebody tell me what is up--im caught with no radio...
King James should get a hit in his hometown!
Writing it, jinxed him. Boo me, it's my fault.
GOTTA BE KIDDING ME
Loney goes down easily and the inning is over.
I am not happy. How the hell do the Dodgers beat Peavy and not Ortiz?
Hey everyone.
What the heck is going on here? I thought the Dodgers would be up by ten by now.
That's it for Kershaw. Looks like it is time for Mota.
Good outing for Mota. Time for some late inning runs. We have been doing it all season so far.
Ortiz in line for the win. My brain can't handle this.
Russ goes down on a check swing.
Delino: it ain't over 'till it's over, right?
Kemp gets us on base with a drive to left fields and I immediately feel like we are going to score a run in this inning.
"Casey Blake already has three home-runs on the season and that left field wall is calling" - Lyons
I can't say I'm completely surprised. It seemsnlike the dodgers struggle against "bad" pitchers. Remeber what happened in San diego against the dish washer? Either that or I blame Eric Collins.
Left field wall calling, Casey Blake has the TV too loud and can't hear it. Inning ending double play on a ground ball to the third baseman.
Ball bounces over center field wall for a double, followed by a bunt where the runner moves over and the bunter is safe.
At least we beat Silva Nic.
At least the ball did not go up the hill in center field. I hate that hill. Brings a whole new meaning to the term "level playing field"
who else is tired of guillermo mota?
Mota slams Keppinger with a fastball after an 0-2 pitch. VERY BAD pitch
Bases loaded, 0 outs and Mota STAYS IN THE GAME! I think Torre is giving up on this one
Almost a double play. But at least one out.
O-Dog still sees a chance.
Mota walks in a run and ...
I know it's his first game. But I'm not really feeling collins. He reminds me of a playoff announcer. Maybe I'm just spoiled with vinny.
Finally Mota is taken out of the game.
Double switch. Loretta in for Blake, and Troncoso in for Mota
Troncoso gets out number two with a check swing on a slider down and away.
why did we sign Mota again?
good to see Troncoso doing decently... lets keep it going.
Berkman with a 3-2 count, 2 outs, bases loaded.
See what I mean about jinxing? Schadenfreude guys. Schadenfreude.
atta-boy Tron!
lets get those bats heated up!
Ug, had to step out, but come back to this!?! At least Ramon stopped the bleeding.
Berkman grounds out to get us out of the inning.
Is this life outside the NL West? Or just life on the road?
Can't believe we let Ortiz off the hook.
NL West was pretty nice
Laker time.
Hudson singles. C'mon, Manny.
Two out rally?
Manny 0-2. This isn't happening
Beautiful!!
MANNY! 7-5 Astros! And Collins' first HR call!
MANNY DOES IT! HAMMERED!! 2 RUN SHOT
WOw, Manny crushed that ball
It ain't over yet
MANNY!!!!!!!
ManRam HR!
Dodgers 5, Astros 7
Aye, Manolo!
That was beautiful.
We all could use a little optimism. ALWAYS.
Pitcher's shaken.
Ethier walk! Tying run at the plate.
NL Player of the Week, Andre Ethier, takes ball four on five pitches and keeps the inning going.
Collins says Manny's was a 437-ft HR.
Loney having a bad night grounds out
and Loney groundsout... again!
Damn, Loney. Guess James doesn't like home cooking.
If anyone is interested, Lakers off to a crushing start of 20-9
wow way to go manny. i think me watching the laker game instead of the dodger game is good luck.
