A big tip o' the fitted cap to Erin at Robots Took My Medicine for those kickass buttons pictured above, as well as her piece, "A Home Away from Home", which could also be called "Your Guide to SoSG Game Threads."
Vicente Padilla (0-0, 1.23) vs. Cole Hamels (1-0, 6.75).
What? Another Game Thread? That's right, the season didn't end Monday night — it just felt like it. There's at least nine more innings of baseball left in the Dodgers' season, and so SoSG presents:
NINE REASONS DODGER FANS SHOULDN'T STOP BELIEVIN' 1. The "Don't Stop Believin' " Guy hasn't stopped believing. Hence his name. |
2. This could be the last time. It's Splitsville for Mom & Dad. Kim Ng could be hitting the 5 South. Donnie Baseball could be headed to Cleveland or D.C. O-Dog and the Wolfman will probably be signing long-term deals elsewhere. If you like this year's edition of the Dodgers, you'll want to watch every moment they have left together.
|
3. If you don't watch, then the Phillie Phanatic will have won. And then Tommy would be sad.
|
4. We still have to hold up our end of the Freeway Series. Screw the TV ratings. Another East Coast World Series? Yawn.
|
5. Who has Game 6 tickets? 'Nuff said.
|
6. It's another chance to listen to Vin. Keep delaying that radio feed, KABC!
|
7. Everybody hurts. Especially Jonathan Broxton. Whatever you feel about him — and there's a lot of feelings about him out there — he needs the support of Dodger fans as long as there's still baseball to play (see Holliday, Matt).
|
8. What else are you going to do? Work? Spend time with the family? You're not going to check TBS just once? You're going to stay away from Gameday altogether? Yeah right.
|
9. Sí, se puede! Remember 1988? Get in on the ground floor. Remember the 4+1 game? Don't be the guy in his car way in the background whose taillights light up after the rally starts. Don't be that guy.

GO DODGERS!

«Oldest ‹Older 401 – 600 of 775 Newer› Newest»I'm guessing by the strike zone that the umpires get paid the same ammount no matter how long the series goes.
The citizens in Citizens are quiet.
@orel, nic
I have faith that the Yanks will eventually collapse under the weight of all that evil.
Perhaps not in the next dozen games, though.
We have two on.
one more DP from Dre?
I think the umps get a bonus for crappy calls.
sorry - i shouldn't type everything I think
Dre. You must do this. You can do this.
Fail.
After the walk, Ethier swings at the first pitch. MAKES PERFECT SENSE
Manny-demption?!
There is that Ethier temper again!
Come on Manny. This is why we got you.
@nic
Perhaps they are, but I just watch Raffy's ABs a lot more.
Furcal would probably see an offensive uptick if he played 82 in CBP.
do your voodoo, manny.
Hey, Manny's down 0-2. How unlike him.
Surprised Durbin isn't coming back right at him.
Accidental hit. A perfect summation of this NLCS.
Shyte
At least plaschke has his article written for tomorrow.
Manny should've walked in that at-bat. Pathetic. Wish it was a mutual option on him, not just a player option.
Okay Kershaw. Get a couple good innings.
Off to a...typical start.
BS.
Charlie and Rick are talking about the sorry state of umpiring.
Come on guys! Are we getting to 1000 posts or not?
Not
Come on Kershaw. Don't go all Ankiel on us.
Good job Kershaw!
I wonder what the team is going to look like next year.
@fanerman
Half of the posters in the 1253 thread have probably jumped from the vincent thomas bridge by now, so I'm gonna say no.
what is it with Manny and those inside pitches? It has to be an ego thing, where everybody says he can't hit the inside pitch (and maybe it's true), but he thinks he has to try
every mistake has hurt us so far. what will happen now?
Phew.
hey! a Clayton WP doesnt kill us!
Another K and we're out of the inning. It's a 3-run game. We're in the bullpen.
lets get a couple back this inning! who can hit us a 2-run solo homer? Thome?
Belliard fucks up another DP. Somewhere Hudson is smiling.
Nice to see that Happy Pete is returning to form.
Now if only the bullpen would do the same.
Let's see if Kemp can not K here.
Damnit.
Who has been our steadiest hitter this season? Seems like everyone has been mired in some horrible slump at some point in the season.
And Charley with the answer: James Loney.
that was pretty nasty, but it has to look like "take" coming out of his hand
ugh, Orel, I didnt need to hear that
Come on Dodgers! At least try!
Martin sucks.
POS
Quick survey:
I turned off my TV in disgust when Sherrill had the HBP. When I turned it back on, O-Dog had homered and Raffy was on 2nd.
Now, since I've had it on. Ethier and Manny failed, Clay was shaky...and...we just went down 123.
Turn it off again: Yes or no?
Do what's best for the team, Josh S.
Josh
hit the SAP button. Whereever that is
@josh s
Your discretion. It'll take more that superstition to get back in this.
Not feeling this.
thank you Ruiz
A first strike to Ruiz!!!!??! Now two balls
scouting report must have been Ruiz will swing at everything in the first four pitches.
i really miss wins :(
At least kemp isn't really helping his arbitration case.
@orel
Nor am I, but I'm a stubborn SOB.
ahh another chance at the (Chan) Ho (Park)!
Charley with another heart-attack call.
godDAMMIT! stop hitting batters! how does this happen so often???
Of course. Of course.
Fuck you, Shane.
time for some headhunting
I hate these guys. I really hate these guys.
We are getting Yankeed.
Man our pitching staff just completely fell apart.
UGH.
then the walking home? cmon now...
Walk. Walk. HR.
HBP. HR.
That was a 4SFB straight down the pike. It deserved to be crushed.
If I were Rick Honeycutt, I might be worrying about my job right now.
Shane Victorino, you are a mustard stain on the tie of life.
Wow we got bitched slapped in the NLCS.
for the second year in a row
the walking home together was bush league
Yeah, were all done here but the cryin'.
The game 5 give up without a fight caps it off.
TWO YEARS IN A ROW
They're Phillies. They're from Philadelphia. What do you expect? They're bastards.
Please put up a fight. Please. We need something. Anything.
Vin misspoke. He said "shins" when he obviously meant "nuts."
Funny this is the first three game sweep of the season. I know it's not technically a sweep but three straight games in the same venue is close enough.
Blake has really disappeared. Wonder if he's still hurt.
To be honest, I did sort of expect us to shrink like George Costanza in the pool.
Disappointing.
True, Nic J.
For a second, I felt with Chan Ho about to come in to defend a 3-run lead. i am such a fool
Orlando forever, Casey next season.
This game is such a kick in the Hollidays.
Cue the "start Pierre" crowd.
Somebody needs to do something. We need a jolt. One last stand. Even if it comes short, just one last stand.
So who do you guys like in the starting pitcher pool this offseason? Aside from Lackey, there's not much. Maybe Pineiro, or Marquis.
Thank you Juanny! You did a lot for us this year when nobody, except probably you, expected anything from you.
Well, turning it back off didn't help.
You know, I may just go ahead and hit Victorino with a baseball if none of our guys will do it.
ugh MLASF is that all there is?
Isn't it funny how JP has become a cult hero? Doesn't anyone remember all the ground outs and popups?
Either Rollins or Victorino deserve a ball in the ribcage. They were walking home 3 feet apart after that homer. One or both of them had to be admiring that for a little too long
Lackey is too much of a goober to be a dodger. He gets hurt alot too.
There is really not too much
out there, sadly.
Nic, I remember the strikeouts
Aside from retaining Wolf, yeah. There's a lot of high-risk, high-reward guys like Eric Bedard and Rich Harden, but Marquis, Lackey, and Pineiro are probably the most stable of all the pitchers available.
Randy Wolf? John Garland? Vicente Padilla?
@MLASF
I so don't want to talk hot stove yet. At least until the beating we just took heals up a bit.
Ben sheets is out there lurking somewhere.
There's an option on Garland, but it's sky-high. Padilla is a possibility.
Nic J, all I remember are groundouts and popouts. And BEAST MODE t-shirts. Nothing like a beastly out.
I'd support that, Josh S.
Hot stove heals all wounds Mr C
I like Lackey and think he would dominate in the NL. But he's going to cost A LOT.
I haven't stopped Believing, but it's gotten a lot harder.
I hate to say it, but getting drubbed feels like a formality. This series ended Monday night.
Yankees-Phillies should make for a highly entertaining World Series.
So can we have a freeway series for third place? Just for fun.
Great idea, Nic! I would love that.
Lackey is one of my favorite pitchers. I always liked his style. But yeah, he's going to cost major buckage. Maybe they go for a cheapie, incentive-laiden deal with Harden, but that's all I can think of.
Apparently this ump doesn't have enough drama in his life, because he's making it up with his strike calls.
Now that Ricciardi is gone, maybe Halladay can be had.
For most of life, my feelings for the Phillies have been indifference to mild dislike (after the comeback game in 1991 and the shitty-but-good 1993 team). After last year, they moved into Reds and Mets territory, where in down years I hate them but don't pay them any mind, but in good years I hate them and hate them good. After this year they are in Giants/Yankees/UNC Tar Heels territory, where from now on, I will always enjoy their losses, no matter how bad they may get
Lackeys mouth breathing bugs the hell out of me.
Wow. Just wow.
One year left is definitely cheaper than at mid-season for Halladay, but I still think it would take a few key minor-leaguers to create something.
Jayson Werth. I hate you.
This game sucks balls.
The pitching staff is taking one for Broxton.
All that son of a bitch gave us were injuries up the wazoo.
I guess Billingsley has much less value now.
Vin: "they're getting their brains handed to them."
Sounds about right.
You just know Werth is saying fuck you every time he does something like that. I mean, wouldn't you?
I think Billingsley will be fine with rest.
I hope a champaign cork hits Jayson in that glass wrist of his.
I am very sad.
Partly because of the score and partly because the internets went down
No. But then again, I'm not the embodiment of pure evil.
I actually think Rollins and Howard are the most tolerable of the Phillies. I hate Werth because he was always fucked up with us. I hate Victorino because he's been a little SOB since last year. I hate Utley because that fucking backstabber left us for UCLA. I hate Hamels because he turned his back on the southland. I hate Lidge for...well...I just hate Lidge so damn much.
i thought the day off after the meltdown would help us mentally (it did for me). maybe we lose 20-0 if game 5 is yesterday
@fanerman
Hopefully someone will hand Kemp his hitting brain.
At least the offseason can help Manny recharge (though not in a way that might get him suspended again)
I think manny will be better next season, it's a contract year after all.
does Manny's post-suspension performance drop his value enough so that he has to pick up his option?
I'm in a walk year so my comments should get better next season.
@FB - Boras may be a greedy little imp, but he's no moron.
Hey guys, figured I'd make a rare appearance on a game thread given that the season appears to only have a couple innings left, and I have no one to commiserate with at the moment. Maybe it will spark a miracle.
Well kids, that's it for me. I have officially turned it off. I' m going to grab some dinner, spend some time with rhe wife and son, watch some Glee, and reflect on what was an amazing season.
Thank you Mr. Belliard. Let's cash this in.
@ FB re Manny-
Absolutely it does. Also his late season dive and his post-season blah-ness send it that direction.
Bellitoo starts the seven-run inning!
I think these Phillies are In for a rude awakening in the next round.
I'd settle for one run, but even that might be a little optimistic.
yep, that was me with a different account... could anything go right today? please?
Josh-
What is this "wife" you speak of? Is that what is called family? I have heard tell of such. Must check that out after the 9th inning.
Yeah, we're stuck with Manny next season. And Pierre.
What is this conflicting edits page?
have a good night Josh
2 people commenting at the same time?
Thank you Andre. Come on Manny!!
This rally would have meant something if we hadn't given three dozen home runs.
"given up"
@MLASF
Honestly, I don't find the Phils all that personally distasteful, with the exception of Victorino, the human paraquat.
Chan Ho Park, still a Dodger after all.
I am going to go shower.
I'm not cheering until it's a technical save situation.
I really can't see Manny leaving. How could he get $20MM? I can't imagine it, but what do I know. I'm the one making random posts just to pad the collective postcount.
Take care Josh S, looking forward to some good puzzle competition from you next year.
I'm not even watching, I'm just here for the excellent conversation.
And the breadsticks....
rbragg...ubragg...who do you think you are, Dr(.) Geek?
something in me can see Manny bolting for some crappy but arrogant AL team, like Chicago, for $5 mil less
Sup Ubragg?
Nite Josh.
Fanerman, sometimes Blogger farts when two people hit the PUBLISH button at the same time. And Dusty Baker gets enraged because he's lost another brilliantly worded diatribe.
Geoffrey: "You fool! As if it matters how a man falls down."
Richard: "When the fall is all that's left, it matters a great deal."
so I figure I may as well ask this since distractions can only help the mood... what is the recommended way to participate in a game thread -- do you sit here hitting refresh, or is there some real time tool you can use to see posts as they come in?
No way, FB.
Nice to see ya, Ubragg!
Orel, do you have the Monday April 5 2010 GameThread, or do you want me to take it?
I hope Billingsley stays away from ice patches this offseason
So if Manny were to take off, and Pierre is locked in, then we'd either have to play Pierre in LF and look for TWO power bats to fit in SOMEWHERE, or keep sitting Pierre and go for a power bat for LF. Or somehow offload JP.
This is not a slight on JP, just realism given that we currently need ANOTHER power bat somewhere, and if we lose Manny we'd need TWO.
Again, I'm horrible at math but I can work that part out ok.
F5 is your friend, Ubragg.
@Ubragg - Unfortunately, it's refresh.
Hey MC. Figured I try something different in an act of desperation for the season. Seems to be working ok so far...
Will "Pockets in" be the style next season?
I refresh. Or I just make a pointless post. At least we'll get to 600. Maybe 700.
The Phillies owe us a HBP.
Remember when Manny drew what seemed like 2 walks a game? yeah me neither
Sax, I'll take the Camelback Ranch retrospective.
F5 it is, thanks guys.
Rancho Bisoniendo
There's one, Manny.
RANCHO FUCKTHISNOISEINDO
Orel is right. I've lost several versions of my magnum opus to the dread conflicting edits monster. Society, really, has been the loser.
Okay, here's your moral victory situation, Fanerman.!
First-pitch swinging.
you know, if i play with the color setting on my TV, and squint really hard maybe i can turn the red phillies unis blue and i can pretend the dodgers are celebrating a victory.
I thought comments get through that vile beast of the abode that I call Conflicting Edits.
HOORAY FOR RUNS!
Five-run lead! TAKE THAT PHILLY
There we go Matt! Little victories. Minor redemptions. Let's at least cleanse the palate somewhat.
now kemp starts hitting, hopefully that carries over to spring training.
You might need some chemical assistance for that, Nic.
Let's take a hit off a Doobie...
instructed batter.
Are they coming back just to dash my dreams even harder against the rocks? Or is this something?
Some comments elude the CE Beast, MLASF. Most don't.
ok, so it looks like I need to keep asking noobie questions for some reason. how do you keep it from scrolling back up to the top each time you refresh?
The former, DB.
You can't, Ubragg.
Fuck you, Loney.
WHY ALL THIS FIRST-PITCH SWINGING???
one run is our max per inning.
