Game 31 Thread: May 9 vs. Rockies, 1p

Clayton Kershaw (1-2, 4.99) vs. Ubaldo Jimenez (6-0, 0.87).

COMMENTS: Despite what Accuscore says (only a 54% chance of a Rockies victory?), I can't find a way to get excited about the Dodgers' chances in this game. Kershaw is coming off the worst start of his career, and Jimenez has only thrown a no-hitter this season and is generally having a Cy Young-caliber season. Sure, Manny's back (1-for-4 last night), but after getting shut down by Jhoulys Chacin, the Dodgers' offense isn't exactly primed and ready.

Sorry, I'm kind of in a negative mood. It's been that kind of season.

Actually, Orel, the post is fairly mild all things considered. No too negative. You want to see Negative? See last night's game comments. The crowd's getting ugly out there.

Josh S. said...

Look, I know we're awful and Ubaldo is baseball Jesus or whatever, but he wasn't exactly great against the Dodgers last year. (5.25 ERA, Rockies only won 1 of his four starts.)

I'm going with a logic-defying rout of the Rox today.

Good on the blues, even Didier and his ridiculous hair.

Can you guys spare a Russian petro-billionaire for a guy down on his luck?

Neeebs (The Original) said...

All we can spare is Alexander II.

I know, these GTs can get pretty down. But I try to balance things out for our optimistic lurkers.

Hey moms: Check the main page.

Epale everyone!(Happy Mother's Day to all your beloved moms in your lives)

hold on the fort, electricity shortage is coming up for me in a couple of minutes, so: they can win this game, yesterday it was only a minor setback, not a lost war.

Go Blue!

Orel said...

Epale, Karina! Thanks for our daily dose of sunshine.

And The Kid gets out of it

rbnlaw said...

Happy Muddah's Day to all you muddah's. Taking mom for a nice Mexican food lunch and the wife out later.

Meanwhile, how about that first inning, huh? No runs!

DB: Good on yer Blues. A healthy squad for the Gunners next year should produce one of two things: Silverware, or Wenger's undoing.

Steve Sax said...

Win one for our moms, Dodgers!

rbnlaw said...

Look at that Ethier kid, taking pitches.

rbnlaw said...

Mr. C: As soon as Liverpool settles its off-the-field problems, they should be in contention once again.
Maybe you can buy Tevez from Man City. He seems restless again.

NicJ said...

Damn. Ubaldo is just unfair.

rbnlaw said...

Dodgers propose starting games with the third inning from now on.
MLB says, "Maybe."

Steve Sax said...

Still scoreless through two, which I'm taking as a victory

MR.F said...

Bunt fail. Oh well.

Jason said...

I know I'm late to the game, but how and why did Manny get caught stealing? Busted hit and run? Someone leave his pregnancy test on 2nd?

MR.F said...

OMG. COME ON!!!

NicJ said...

Man we really know how to let a pitcher off the hook.

karina said...

Light's back and guess what: Dodgers game on TV and i get to listen to Vinny all alone! no distracting Spanish commentary. It's a pitcher's duel and my heart can't ask for a better situation.

Nostradamus said...

This game's moving right along

karina said...

KKKKKKKKershaw!, including two Ks for Dodgers killer Todd Helton

Nostradamus said...

I know I've said it before, but I still really don't understand this team.

Nostradamus said...

Every A's fan watching ESPN just screamed at their TV. Apparently they don't believe in jinxes.

Nostradamus said...

3 outs to go for Dallas Braden now.

MR.F said...

It would have been nice if Kershaw could call it a day after 7, but with our pen...

Nostradamus said...

Leaving Clayton in?

Steve Sax said...

This is one hell of a performance by Minotaur. 1-0 LA, top 8

Nostradamus said...

Old friend Willy Aybar, 1st out of the ninth

2 outs for Braden

Nostradamus said...

Old friend Navarro out, too.

Uno mas.

Perfect game in Oakland!

Nostradamus said...

Perfect game in Oakland!

NicJ said...

I wonder if that is the lowest attendance for a perfect game.

I guess i dont feel so bad getting owned by him last year

NicJ said...

GEICO MARTIN!!!!!

Nostradamus said...

Martin with the insurance.

NicJ said...

I guess A-Rod better stay off Braden's effin' mound from now on.

Nostradamus said...

Looks like a 3 game series btw the Cavs and Boston now.

NicJ said...

thats good for the magic.

Nostradamus said...

It's all you, big fella.

MR.F said...

Not feeling good about Clayton's 117 pitches. I wish we had a bullpen we could trust.

NicJ said...

broxton IS the bullpen.

Nostradamus said...

Nothing to see here, move along.

NicJ said...

Fred's Brim said...

Yessir! Great win!

NicJ said...

there were only 12,228 in attendance at that perfect game.

NicJ said...

and the last two perfect games were against the Rays.

Unknown said...

I come back to find that Kershaw has outdueled Jimenez and has pitched the finest game of his career? Am I freaking dreaming?

Josh S. said...

I stand by my prediction. 2-0 is a rout, the way the team has been playing lately.

Steve Sax said...

Down goes Jiminez! Down goes Jiminez!

First loss of the year for You-Baldo

Steve Sax said...

Clayton's win will be overshadowed by Braden, unfortunately

Josh S. said...

Actual conversation between me and Mrs. S, while I was playing with Luke in his room.

Me: What's the score?
Her: Still 1-0. One out.
Me: Who's batting?
Her: Garret Anderson.
Me: Was he the one out?
Her: No, he's still batting.
Me: Oh, then it's two outs.
(beat)
Her: Yep. Two outs.
(beat)
Her: Home run!
Me: Huh??!!

NicJ said...

Maybe Sax, the media does love Ubaldo so hopefully our little clayton out-dueling him for his first loss will get a little play.

NicJ said...

That settles it Josh, playing with little Luke is a rally charm. You know what you have to do.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Saw Iron Man. Missed game. Disappointed.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Figures the one guy I put as not being a walking-K (or walking anything) would strike out three times.

Fred's Brim said...

went to the VaGiants game today vs the Mets. I did my best to screw Timmy Hashpipe out of a win, but couldn't keep the Mets bullpen from gagging on the lead.
It was windy and freezing there again today, almost as bad as our games there.
I talked to a Giants fan (who was wearing a fancy scarf) for a second, until he was distracted, literally, by a hot dog stand. "Ooh a hot dog stand!" was his comment and he scurried off

Fred's Brim said...

We won 6 of 10 on the homestand. Not great but i'll take it. I am shooting for 4 of 6 on the next trip vs Az and SD

Nostradamus said...

Yeah, road trip competence is definitely overdue.

Kyle Baker said...

"Timmy Hashpipe"

Nice, FB.

I have taken to referring to marijuana as "the Lincecum weed."

Steve Sax said...

@FB: we'll get five of six.

Steve Sax said...

Red sox and Yankees ? Who are they?

Unknown said...

Dodgers have left the NL West cellar.

Steve Sax said...

I can't bear ruining my Sunday listening to Joe Morgan. Sorry, ESPN.

NicJ said...

crap, im going to have to cut a finger off my avatar.

Fourth place baby!!

NicJ said...

Are the suns really this good or are the spurs just really old?

Does any of this matter because the lakers are a good matchup for the suns?

NicJ said...

WOW, big shot by George Hill.

Kyle Baker said...

@Nic

Do you think we (Lakers) match up better against Suns or Spurs? I realize it's decide now but just wondering your take.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I'd say Suns merely because of the slower PG.

NicJ said...

I think i was more worried about going up against the spurs.

The suns are just too small and the lakers defend the 3pt very well.

I think im more worried about them just because they tossed the spurs aside so easily but it could be that the spurs just ran out of gas.

Nostradamus said...

@Neeebs 11:01a

If it must be a Csar, I must demand Boris Gudonov, at the very least.

Can't believe that sneaked on past me.

Paul said...

After Charlie Haeger's first inning yesterday I think I went into shock for 24 hours.

What happened today?

Paul said...

Is Russian Standard Vodka any good? I think a Tsar left me some when I was on my spiritual walk this weekend.

Tastes fine to me.

Paul said...

Great now I am hearing I might not be the next supreme court justice...not a good way to start off the week.

Nostradamus said...

@Paul

Vodka isn't my first vector choice, but Russian Standard is at least a match for Stoli for my taste.

Nostradamus said...

Maybe Ginsburg will put in a good word for you when she decides to step down.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

At least they're thinking the ranks of justices I can never remember. I'm stuck at Scalia, Ginsburg, Roberts, Sotomayor, and Alito.

Nostradamus said...

@MLASF

At least you have a plurality. Kennedy, Breyer, Thomas, and Stevens (for the moment) vote to hold you in contempt.

Paul said...

Bushrod Washington has to be the best supreme court name of all time.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar makes it a close second.

Paul said...

I didn't know the Yankees and Sox are rivals! Thanks ESPN.

Paul said...

Yeah that one might be 1b of names. I just wish old Bushrod would have been around long enough to write an opinion on obscenity and the first amendment.

Steve Sax said...

@Paul 9:49p: Yes, Russian Standard vodka is pretty good stuff. I actually had it for the first time in Moscow, when I was told it was coming to the states and we should be ready. It's my bloody mary mix of choice right now (though I do have Goose on hand for picky guests; Russian Standard is the only vodka in my freezer, however).

Go for the Russian Standard Platinum.

Nostradamus said...

Felix Frankfurter has got to be up there, too.

Steve Sax said...

PGT up, about eight hours late

Kyle Baker said...

I swear I don't remember us defending the 3-pointer very well.
