Hiroki Kuroda (3-1, 2.70) vs. Edwin Jackson (1-4, 7.32).
COMMENTS: Edwin Jackson, Edwin Jackson; now why does that name ring a bell? Was he that 21-year-old that we dumped in January 2006 for Danys Baez and Lance Carter? Who posted a 14-11 record for the Rays in 2008, and a 13-9 record for the Tigers in 2009? Who has only faced the team that drafted him in 2001 and nursed him from infancy once before (winning 9-4 on June 24, 2007, marking his first win of that season after starting 0-8)? Who served as the answer to 2009 PCS Puzzle #13?
There are many who lament the departure of Jackson, and there are even more who lament the acquisition of Baez and Carter in his place. But in any event, here he is, with one win in seven starts this year and a ERA+ of 63, less than half of the ERA+ he sported his prior year with the Tigers. I have no doubt that Jackson is saltier than a slice of salami and will take the mound tonight firing bullets. I hope we didn't exhaust our offensive coffers with last night's breakout performance, which gave us our first road series victory of the season.
But as far as I'm concerned, any excuse we have to reference "Action Jackson" is a win in my book. So I guess the only question left is, "How do you like your ribs?"

Whoa, whoa, whoa. There's still plenty of offensive meat on that bone. Now you take this to Chase Field, shoot it past a diving infielder, add some stolen bases, a homer. Baby, you've got a stew going!

Ah Vanity (the woman, not the sin).
Best line of dialogue...
Craig T Nelson: "Give me one reason"
Vanity: "I'll give you two"
Cut to Vanity showing her two "reasons"
Classy, thought-provoking material.
Also thought-provoking, a news item I just encountered:
"NBC/WSJ poll: Six in 10 Americans favor more offshore drilling "
@Josh
What's with the pistachios reference on your Tweet?
@Dusty: Nothing too deep. I've never really liked pistachios, but there are some in this mix I'm eating. I tried them again and liked them. That's it.
The more you know...
*rainbow*
@Josh
I hear ya. I do not like pistachios but try them again every few years, just to be sure.
That's the way I was with avocado my whole life, until I was about 28. All of the sudden I LOVED avocado and now can't get enough.
But again, not so much with pistachios or their evil twin, pistachio ice cream.
Scandal of the day: Phillies bullpen coach caught stealing signs with binoculars. Since they were in Denver they didn't have their usual center field camera so they have to steal the signs some way, right?
"how do you like your ribs?". Action Jackson.
Carl Weathers is a genius and a great acting coach.
@ Jason They should stick a dude in the trees in CF. Get him a tree stand and camo! I can hook him up! I hate Philadelphia.
read this on the DT comments from Jon Weisman:
Tony Jackson
(6:41 PM)
Earl, I have it on good authority (NOT from Colletti, from others) that if anything, Ned UNDERSTATED the issues with Kemp. This kid is really full of himself, to the point that it is becoming an issue in the clubhouse. I'm not saying they WILL trade him. I still think there is less than a 50-percent chance that they will. I'm just saying that if they do trade one of their core young players, he probably will be the one, not only because of these issues but also because he would have the most value.
Oh no! A talented individual thinks highly of himself!
So I'm guessing Tony Jackson was a Jeff Kent fan.
It seems to me that Casey takes it upon himself to keep Mattie in check. Which is good.
Yeah. I don't think it's a big deal unless I hear more and more reports. But figured it'd be worth sharing.
A Martinez on ESPN radio has been alluding to that for a few years now.
But maybe kemp just doesn't like the media.
I mean there are a couple of things that kemp does in the field that bother me, but it's mainly nitpicking on my part.
Fanerman is our roving reporter.
Yeah, guys like Reggie Jackson, Nolan Ryan, and Rickey Henderson really hurt their careers with that inflated sense of self-importance.
I don't care much for the report or his attitude. But I hope he realizes that his base-running and defensive errors are significant, and unless he's hitting like a roided-up Barroid, he can't just take them for granted.
@MR.F
That's tough but fair.
@Jason 4:18p: thanks for the tip, we'll post on it tomorrow morning after seasoning it overnight in a dry rub of snark
The base stealing thing is pretty big especially when you have Maury Wills at your disposal.
Maybe his personal life is starting to affect his ego. I mean, seriously, how would you act if you started dating Rihanna?
Maybe it's time to start a #BlameRihanna Twitter tag?
Strasburg has held his opponent to less than 1 hit thru 6 IP. Eric Stephen says it is on MLB Network. Few minutes old, this info is.
Jason,
I'm surprised it doesn't exist yet.
Holding someone to less than a hit. Is that a way of saying no hitter to avoid the jinx?
Matt Kemp has a big head?
Kemp's bobble head is flipping off Ned in that shot.
Vin Bot!
Let's play ball!
I have a feeling we're going to make Jackson look like Roy Halladay.
Why we are safe tonight.
Jackson is on my fantasy team.
That's a guarantee for no action.
One two three out for la
A four-pitch walk to start the game. Not the greatest precursor.
Chicks and dudes,
Hola from exile. I'll check in from time to time to share my witty insights and charming banter.
Do like this new roll the team's on.
Kaiser?
That foul out is as good as a sac
That foul out is as good as a sac
I wonder if the are going to do a post of that catch by Casey on the Mets blog.
Long inning for hiro
KKuroda
It took a while, but at least the inning is over.
Hmm…
Nothing doing yet.
Called strike at DeWitt's toes.
DeHit!
Pretty good contact for Kuroda.
More crushing disappointment at the hands of a former Dodgers.
Eh, they didn't do squat first time through the lineup yesterday either.
At least the Big K has settled down.
C'mon Andre, homer here so you can finally pass that prick Kelly Johnson.
Insufferable, ego-driven base hit.
What a mensch.
MLASF wins.
TAKE THAT, KELLY JOHNSON!!!
When MLASF wins, we all win!
According to my math, Andre is on pace to hit 52 home runs, with 176 RBI's.
Freakishly good.
Aw crap.
Took the words out of my mouth, MLASF
The current MLB wins leader makes me lol. Not Halladay, not Jimenez...
Has blogger glitched again or did everybody just leave?
Epale everyone!
If i don't feel particularly optimistic, should i stay outside this GT?
C'mon Matt, get on base so Mr.-better-than-Pujols can have his hacks.
Or that. That works too, Kemp!
Awesome Dre, you only took 2 pitches
Matt's first RBI since Ned-gate?
Argh, Blogger's screwy again.
Actually, Josh, Matt had that RBI triple against the Rockies on Friday.
Don't they know an arrogant bastard with talent or money is called eccentric.
Just like an ugly bastard with talent or money is called rugged.
I want my blogger back!!!!
I forgot about the triple. Though, 2 RBI in as many weeks is far from memorable.
Jamey Carroll has actually been downright decent today.
I don't know how they can let Jackson keep going. Their bullpen must really be that bad.
WOW, an intentional walk to Either to face Ramirez? He's at Bonds status now, lol
Andre's so good that they have to walk him to get to Manny.
I feel like I'm a Denny's.
"I'll have the Mannyslam, please."
Oh how the game has changed.
He. . .was. . .thatclosetoit.
Manny ripped that thing.
"That ball wouldn't be out in a lot of parks."
"Name one."
"Yellowstone."
It was a Mannyslam, hold the Manny.
That's what you get when you intentionally walk Andre the Awesome.
I have no argument with a 3-run double, however.
Dodgers ask MLB to allow them to hit against D-Back pitching whenever they play another team.
MLB says, "We'll take it under consideration."
@rb/db
How bout those Bluebirds today? Suppose they can take Blackpool?
Chad and Clayton, take note. Hiroki throws 20 pitches in the first inning, and still manages to go seven innings.
@MLASF...Clayton threw 30 pitches in his first inning, and still managed to go 8 innings
@MLASF
Possibly most important, also walks just one.
@David - It's still a recurring problem for both of them.
The bearded sombrero.
What is up with tequila companies getting so aggresive with their marketing behin homeplate?
I miss last year when they just made really bad commercials.
Mr. C
I for one am pulling for Cardiff. Good for the city, good for the country to have a Welsh team in the EPL.
Think they could get Bale away from Spurs?
Going Carrolling
Oh, and see what Fulham got for resting the first team?
Dang it!
Admiral Ackbar has had a good night.
No traps!
Who's the bullpen guy pitching the 8th?
@rb
Bale to Cardiff would be a win-win. I have a feeling this is going to be a chaotic summer for the EPL.
Go Blue!
Jesus christyou suck Belly1.
Damn I missed some Coca-Cola League/EPL talk. Sorry guys!
MrC/RB
I want to send a shoutout to Mr Gareth Bale for making my fantasy EPL season a reasonably successful one. I bought him for two and change, held all year, and consistently scored a jackload of points off of him.
I also missed innings 6-7.5. Damn you, dodgy Tivo.
Well our bullpen sucks.
Good freakin god, can a reliever throw remotely near the plate? WTF?
That was freakish to see Brox warming up in the pen.
I think kemp forgot how many outs there were.
At least the Arizona bullpen has a good chance of giving us a run or two in the ninth.
I always have to adjust the sound when that freakin coors light train comes around.
Homerun time you cocky sob.
At least brox has a save opportunity now.
Ethier might have reached a new level of respect tonight
Andre should really think about using an ankle guard.
If they win, i think i'll be optimistic again.
Ugh. This won't be easy AGAIN.
By the way Dusty, i have your back too.
I forgot I was about 10 seconds behind. Fast forward to the present.
Right now, NBC and Versus are probably committing suicide now that Syd the Kid is out of the playoffs. No Syd, no Ovi, no ratings.
Don't. Walk. Him.
Ethier is a Trending Topic in the LA area
oh no.
Oh it is never easy. The highway is jammed with broken down heros on a last chance powerdrive.
One more out and we party!
Oy. This is never easy.
Sweeeeeeeeeeet.
Sweeeeeeeeep.
We're back at .500! Oh my gosh!
.500!!!
Hey, we're 500!
@Mr LASF it's not easy but if you think this is a sweep makes the suffering worthwhile
The dodgers record has a very eastern philosophy look to it now.
Charter = my cable "provider"
@paul
Full disclosure, I finally caved and bought an iPad, so i'm a bit distracted.
Hah! Dead even! Take that, Anaheim!
Walking E to pitch to Manny. Wow. E has arrived, officially. And Manny made them pay! Love it!
.500! Woooo!
@Paul i wanna hear about it.
@Mr C succumbed to the Ipad, now the question remains: @Josh S will or will not?
Mr. C
Oh no. Now much like Darth Vader you are more machine than man.
You did, Mr C? Man, I'm jealous.
The question is will Josh or Dusty cave first, Karina?
I think Mr C may have set in place a chain reaction.
@Dusty i thought you already owned it.The watch begins!
@Karina
No, I have an iPhone but not the iPad.
Not gonna cave, at least this year. Gotta start saving for preschool.
And I need money for Luke to go to school too.
Gorrammit.
OK, I fixed it so if I'm accidentally logged into my other Google account, I'll still be me.
Nice wordplay above, Josh.
@Josh S you have made my night!
Karina
The Dodgers win and loss number are complementary opposites of each other in terms of the positive number and the negative number and thus they create balance.
balance is nice for an outlook a life philosophy
Baseball isn't a life philosophy, it is much more important than that. So lets get a positive off balance feel from here on out.
Time to head south on the 5 and restore order to the baseball universe.
I'm feelin' it.
Was this the first-ever sweep at Dbags?
I firmly believe that if the Dodgers got Schmidt a win last year, they can get Ramon Ortiz a win.
Verdict: awesome.
Rest, then we feast on Taco Bell.
Dusty according to Vinny it was the first sweep.
We left them high and dry.
@Mr. C: Didja get the three-gee?
Uhhh...Chase isn't a band-box, Patrick O'Neal. Did you SEE Manny's double?
If Vin said it, it must be true.
@Josh
Yup, tree gee all the way. Mobile is a bit iffy for video, but browsing etc. works great. The video over wifi is really nice , tho
Can you hook up the ipad to a printer?
Sorry I'm late. PGT up!
@Paul thanks and +10 for the Radiohead reference
@Karina 10:36p
This is what you get, when you mess with us.
