Game 37 Thread: May 16 @ Padres, 1p

Chad Billingsley (3-2, 4.82) vs. Wade LeBlanc (2-0, 1.61).

COMMENTS: As Josh S pointed out in yesterday's PGT, the Dodgers are now 5-0 in Vin Scully-covered road games, and 4-11 when they're on the road and Eric Collins is calling the games. Hmm.

Today Chad Billingsley has the opportunity to put the Dodgers two games back of first place and (more importantly) keep Vin's road streak alive. He'll need to be on since Jonathan Broxton, with saves in the last three games (over four days), is likely unavailable; also unavailable will be slugger Andre Ethier, out with a broken pinky. (You know who will be available, though? The MSB.)

LeBlanc is 1-2 with a 6.47 ERA against the Dodgers (in four appearances), but is obviously pitching a lot better this year. Let's let all those Dodger fans who have worn blue this weekend in Petco Park go home happy, okay, Chad?

Interesting lineup, to say the least.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Wouldn't it make more sense to have Green playing short and Carroll playing third?

Dusty Baker said...

I was sitting around waiting for the GT before I saw it Jere, buried under that other over there post above it.

Josh S. said...

Or Belliard third, Carroll second, Green short.

Mr. Customer said...

Well, at least we're trying to get all the run support we can for our struggling starter.

Dusty Baker said...

Let's hope Bills feeds off recent success/improvement of the other pitching staff.

Paul said...

Who wants to take side bets?

Who has more hits green, Johnson, or anderson?

Does kemp have more hits than the three combined?

Does Anderson or belliard strike out more in this game?

No word on Andre's replacement?

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

I think Joe's not too concerned with the outcome of this game. We have the series, what's one little Sunday afternoon loss?

I WANT TO WIN, DAMMIT

Steve Sax said...

Wouldn't two games back sound better than four games back?

Paul said...

All I am asking for is a Dodges win and an Astros win in 20 innings.

Paul said...

I missed that Brad Lidge is back!....on the DL.

Dusty Baker said...

Torre jus said Belly will play 3rd.

Paul said...

I have been informed I have been misquoting Antonio De Rivera Garcia Azul Falcon.

It is not "We party" it is "We make party".

I will make the proper adjustments before gametime.

Dusty Baker said...

On the 5, Vinny!

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

The camouflage unis. How I hate them.

Betsy said...

I hate those flippin uniforms, looks so idiotic.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

The Padres have had a long history of ugly clothing, starting with the stupid idea of brown and yellow.

Dusty Baker said...

Fans streaming into the park were wearing those hideous unis. Looked like tools. Glad I got the hell out when I did.

Steve Sax said...

I'm caught for the first half boys...hold down the fort for me!

Betsy said...

Hehe Little David - Love you Vin!

Dusty Baker said...

Bills made his debut 4 years ago against Pods, per Vin.

1 2 3 inning for Bills.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Nice first inning for Chad. I expect 6-7 more like them.

Dusty Baker said...

Bills made his debut 4 years ago against Pods, per Vin.

A Delino said...

Gentleman and Mademoiselles,

I will be doing a LIVE KFC Double Down broadcast soon.

Stay tuned.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

This might just be me, but I always remember Chad as being a Padre-killer. Even when they would kick our asses during 06 and 07 Chad would still get the win against them.

Dusty Baker said...

Little David. Vin really likes putting him in his tiny place.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

@Delino - Stupid question, but grilled or fried?

Dusty Baker said...

Will there by live video Delino?

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

I expect that Kemp would be running. We need guys in scoring position, because we won't have a lot of runners today.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

I don't know what the hell Belly2 was swinging at there.

Josh S. said...

Dr. Shin is a hand specialist?

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Ach.

Dusty Baker said...

Isn't Dr Chin Casey Blake's doc?

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Bills is starting to struggle.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Nice play by Loney.

rbnlaw (borracho no come dulce) said...

I can't see the Pod Rays when they're in the field.

rbnlaw (borracho no come dulce) said...

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the extent of Nick Green's power.

karina said...

Epale, everyone!

@Paul 11:20 you're gonna be slightly difficult to please today

Astros 1-Jints 2

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Carroll BB.

Dusty Baker said...

Almost had something goig there. Like that we're getting Matt Le Blanc's pitch count up tho.

rbnlaw (borracho no come dulce) said...

I can't see the marines in right.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Cheapest HPB ever.

Mr. Customer said...

Must eckstein perpetually be on base?

Carlos Lee homered off Zito to tie the game.

It is the first HR Zito gives up this season

Dusty Baker said...

Hate that jolt that you get on radio when Vin transitions to Charley and Rick.

Dusty Baker said...

That Zito needed to be popped.

Dusty Baker said...

Nice Bills!

Josh S. said...

Thank you for your service, Marines. Please enjoy these shitty seats.

karina said...

Why LeBlanc has the Dodgers on No-No?

C-mon, let's win this game!

David said...

Two more innings till the promised land for Bills...

Steve Sax said...

Wow, Wade LeBlanc has a no-hitter through four! This guy is unstoppable! Surely he can go all the way!

karina said...

Those Padres "special uniforms" are ugly offensive, why do they keep wearing them?

David said...

@karina...You know a lineup's weak when Anderson's batting 6th.

Steve Sax said...

Just got home to turn on the tv.

Who is pitching the ball? It seems to be coming out of that wooded area on the mound.

Steve Sax said...

GA sporting the .140 average...whoops, popup to MSB means it's still plummeting south

Erin said...

Hello everyone. Just stopped by to say one thing...

NO-HITTER

Steve Sax said...

LeBlanc has a no-hitter through five!

A NO-HITTER!!!!

Wow! That's a low number-of-hits!

David said...

Ugh, ugh, ugh! Our offense is looking horrible.

NicJ said...

You know your lineups weak when Nick green has the two hardest hit balls.

Steve Sax said...

Meg Whitman, non-voter for 28 years

that would not give her a very high feedback rating on eBay

David said...

lol, everybody's trying to jinx it?

Steve Sax said...

Hey Erin! Is your trip getting more and more affordable each day, with the death-spiralling Euro?

Steve Sax said...

@David: jinx what?

Oh, you mean THE NO-HITTER?

Nah.

Erin said...

Hey, Sax. Yeah, the vacation portion of this trip, which starts in five days, is looking much nicer every day, thanks to the Greeks and whatever else has caused the plummet. I'll be happy as long as it stays where it is (or lower) for another three weeks.

Dusty Baker said...

Le Blanc: Noonan! Nnnnnnnnoooooooonnnnannnn.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

It's been that kind of game where a single for the pitcher warrants thunderous applause.

David said...

I hate pitchers that can hit. (If they don't play for us.)

Steve Sax said...

So here's the strategy, I suppose, from such a sorry lineup:

• if the Dodgers lose, it's not like Torre put out a real team anyway. So it's expected.

• if the Dodgers win, and sweep the Pods with this sorry lineup, it's like grinding so much salt into the wounds of those camouflaged nutjobs, they have to think twice. We'll be in their domes each time they take the field against us.

Dusty Baker said...

The pound is pretty favorable too these days, Erin. Expect the Euro to slide more when this whole thing implodes. *runs to buy gold*

Dusty Baker said...

DP!

Erin said...

VERY nice work, Chad.

Steve Sax said...

Okay Chad, hold on here

boom gidp for cabrera! 0-0 through five and Chad showed some mettle there.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Ah yes, the "Beat LA" chants. They are so appropriate for "man on first with a full count to the batter and one out" situations.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Don't forget British Petroleum. They're doing some damage of their own.

Dusty Baker said...

Stopping off at the in-laws in Buena Park so we can watch the rest of the game. I'll be RB land!

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

NO HITTER THROUGH FIVE

Steve Sax said...

@DB: yeah, both currencies are down but for different reasons. I'm watching the Euro closely, andim watching to see how many days the British coalition government holds on.

Dusty Baker said...

Nooooooooooonan!

Steve Sax said...

Let's go Carroll

Steve Sax said...

Here's Vin with the Carroll propaganda campaign

look, he's done okay of late but we gotta calm this drooling down

David said...

Double play! HECK YES!!!!

As Steve Sax said, it's ok if the Dodgers lose the game. But I sure as heck want Bills to pitch into the 7th, at the very least.

Mr. Customer said...

Smallball time.

Steve Sax said...

Good eye Carroll: 0-2 count but draws the leadoff walk

no hitter still intact!!!!

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

At least Carroll knows how to work the walk.

David said...

C'mon Bills, settle this game right now with a nice, fat home run!

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Now we just need a wild pitch and a sac-fly and we have a lead without a hit.

David said...

That works too, I guess.

Steve Sax said...

Leblanc won't lose a nono to Chadley, right?

Nope; and a great sac bunt Chad!

Mr. Customer said...

Calling RBI single right here

Steve Sax said...

Can .260 Russ keep his hitting streak alive?

karina said...

Son, you don't really want a NO HITTER

Dusty Baker said...

Think how many more pints I could buy in London than I could have two weeks ago. #Chelsea

karina said...

If you can read this: EPALE, Erin!

NicJ said...

Weve got a MSB duel at second base.

Josh S. said...

Aw man, they switched it so Ely's going tomorrow instead.

Steve Sax said...

Pickoff play to Eckstein, to try and get Carroll, and suddenly the CF camera has to zoom way in to catch the action

Steve Sax said...

Nice eye there Russ

3-2 count

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

100

Josh S. said...

Jinx worked!

Mr. Customer said...

HA!

NicJ said...

Yay!

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

One run, one hit.

David said...

YES YES YES YES YES

Josh S. said...

Russ tried to take him out for good measure.

Steve Sax said...

Boom Russell!!!

No no-hitter!

No shutout!

No tie game!

Dusty Baker said...

Hell yeah!

Erin said...

Epale, Karina! I haven't spoken with you in so long!

karina said...

that's my son!

Steve Sax said...

1-0 Dodgers, two out and a man on first

David said...

This is one of those games where 1 run equals 3.

Dusty Baker said...

Glad Torrendidntbrest JMart.

Mr. Customer said...

It always freaks me out when that works

Steve Sax said...

Giants up on the hapless 'Stros, 4-2

Steve Sax said...

Come on FJL, connect here

NicJ said...

Man the c's/magic game doesn't even look competitive.

Mark Jackson already saying the lakers are too soft to beat a healthy celtics team

Steve Sax said...

Stop throwing to first Matt LeBlanc

Steve Sax said...

Vin, that's not Martin on first, it's Johnson

Josh S. said...

Did LeBlanc get the E on his jersey from Eckstein's jersey?

Steve Sax said...

FJL pop to MSB

1-0 Dodgers

MSB coming up

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Mark Jackson can bite me.

David said...

oh well, we scored

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

I really hate MSB.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Double play!

Steve Sax said...

Of course, MSB singles

David said...

It is destiny. Chad Bills will make it to the 7th inning.

Josh S. said...

Jesus, how does MSB not win the batting title every year?

Paul said...

Eckstein is like a fly buzzzing buzzing then you think he is gone an he comes back.

Gonzo dp!

David said...

Hell, Bills could pitch a shutout if his last three innings are very pitch-efficient.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Chad's at 80 pitches, so he might even be able to pitch the eighth.

Mr. Customer said...

You're the man, chadleigh.

NicJ said...

Alright I changed the channel and it's still a comercial. Did billingsley have a meltdown or was it a quick inning?

karina said...

Erin, i've missed you here!

Paul said...

Maybe next time. Belly with a hit.

David said...

Is it just me, or is Matt Kemp having a very similar year to Andre Ethier's 2009?

David said...

Great. 2 outs left in the inning, Anderson and Green up.

Mr. Customer said...

Nicj

6 pitches, 3 outs. Quick inning

Paul said...

Houstan we have a problem. Praying foe a giant bullpen melt down.

Paul said...

That was the ugliest hit an run attempt.

Paul said...

Huge if bills can get us to the ninth with Brox presumably out of comission.

Steve Sax said...

Triple yesterday or not, GAARP sucks

Paul said...

No leadoff walks.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Nice catch by Reed!

Paul said...

Stretch Johnson!

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Another nice catch by Reed!

Josh S. said...

That was sweet, Reed.

And again!

Paul said...

Flying Johnson!

Steve Sax said...

Bills is at 6 2/3

Dusty Baker said...

"the omnipresent mr Johnson"

Paul said...

Bills is nails

Dodgers rolling.

David said...

Bwahaha no complete game for LeBlanc

Josh S. said...

That Mega Millions commercial confuses me. Some of the shots are clearly filmed at Dodger Stadium and some clearly are not. But in the shots that are filmed at DS, the seat colors are wrong.

Paul said...

Padre announcers referring to Carroll as a pesty fly.

karina said...

Hold the fort, gotta drive my mom to some baby shower.

Go Bills, go Blue!

Steve Sax said...

They're letting Chad pitch the eighth!

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Who closes if Chad can't go far?

Also, I'm out.

David said...

7 1/3 innings for Bills. I'm loving this.

Dusty Baker said...

I started to type a comment, Josh, but then realized I was thinking about a different commercial. They must film a lot there.

Mr. Customer said...

Speaking of guys I really dislike...

David said...

ugh, matt stairs

Dusty Baker said...

Damn Papa Joe, perpetuating the whole Matt Stairs phobia aren't we?

Paul said...

MLASF also can't pitch today?

So I say Kuo.

David said...

What? Why did they just pull Bills? He was pitching great, and he was only at 95 pitches!

Steve Sax said...

Pretty awesome outing for Chadley. Well done, Bills!

Paul said...

Oh kuo is out there already.

Steve Sax said...

Kuo nails down the eighth!

Mr. Customer said...

Kuo is money right now

Paul said...

Nice Kuo. Keep him out there in the 9th? Or belly?

David said...

Houston with runners at the corners, top of the 9th, down by 1, 2 out.

Josh S. said...

Get some Geico at Petco.

Dusty Baker said...

Broxton again available. Good thing he got so much rest the last few weeks.

Paul said...

Wow this lineup is bad. How are we winning?

Steve Sax said...

@Josh S 2:58p: yeah, I don't know why the lottery commercial would go through all that trouble to artificially color a couple of levels of the stadium.

Two out, FJL up

David said...

dang it, Houston lost.

David said...

Three outs away from a good Sunday afternoon mood for me.

Paul said...

Giants win. Astros are bad. We play them next!

Steve Sax said...

Tim Kurkjian just tweeted that Bills would have gone the complete game if he had been more pitch-efficient.

Steve Sax said...

Gosh, the Astros are worthless in the ninth

Steve Sax said...

Of course, MSB is up

broxton is apparently available after all, but can't find his mini sirloin strikezone

Paul said...

Casey has a slight beard!

Furless ewok up.

Josh S. said...

Hey, it's the unavailable Brox!

David said...

MSB again, oh lordy

Steve Sax said...

Eckstein flies out to right, one away

Josh S. said...

One to go. Hold on to your butts.

Steve Sax said...

Sweeeeeeeet play by FJL

Paul said...

Nice stop!!!!

One more out and we make party!!!!!

Mr. Customer said...

Loney on his toes, thankfully

Steve Sax said...

Here's Brox' most difficult out to get

Paul said...

One more strike Bubba.

David said...

1 more strike!

Steve Sax said...

Dodger fans alive at petco!

Josh S. said...

You can do it!

Josh S. said...

YES!!!!!

David said...

Wow, we won with our lineup of suck.

Steve Sax said...

Wow! Dodgers with sweep #2!!!

Mr. Customer said...

SWEEEEEEEEP

Paul said...

How Sweep it is!!!!!

Dusty Baker said...

How sweep it is!

Josh S. said...

One six-game stretch almost completely erases a disastrous April.

That's just one of the reasons I love baseball.
