Game 42 Thread: May 21 vs. Tigers, 7p

Chad Billingsley (4-2, 4.03) vs. Dontrelle Willis (1-1, 4.68).

It is a dark time for Los Angeles. Although the Padres have been vanquished, the Detroit Tigers have driven the Dodgers' starting lineup from their dugout and pursued them across the outfield grass.

Evading the dreaded Interleague Starfleet, a group of freedom fighters led by Dusty Skywalker has established a new secret base on the remote Top Deck of Dodger Stadium.

The evil lord Jim Leyland, obsessed with finding young Skywalker, has dispatched thousands of remote Dontrelle Willisbots into the far reaches of Chavez Ravine....

DARTH VADER
What is thy bidding, my master?

THE EMPEROR
There is a great disturbance in the Force.

VADER
    I have felt it.

EMPEROR
We have a new enemy -- Dusty Skywalker.

VADER
    Yes, my master.

EMPEROR
    He could destroy us.

VADER
He's just a boy. Jim Tracy can no longer help him.

EMPEROR
The Force is strong with him. The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.

VADER
    Um, I'm right here.

EMPEROR
Thought I'd refer to you in the third person. On account of your new identity and all.

VADER
    I don't know what you're talking about.

EMPEROR
That's right. You don't know what I'm talking about.

VADER
Jedi mind tricks don't work on Sith, dude.

EMPEROR
    Whatevs.

VADER
    Oh, and one more thing.

VADER & EMPEROR
(in unison)
    HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY, DUSTY!

Nicely played! Love it!

Cheers!

roy oswalt just asked to be traded from the 'stros. i propose oswalt for james mcdonald, straight up. seems totally fair.

Dusty Baker said...

I think you're onto something, Koufax. Also, Astros should pick up Oswalt's salary the next two years.

Even stephen!

I really want him as a Dodger so we can call him "Lee Harvey".

Dusty Baker said...

I love that this is Game #42.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Happy birthday, Dusty!

Dusty Baker said...

Thanks, MLASF!

Some interleague wins will be a welcome present.

It would be welcome anytime.

Happy Birthday to Mr. Dusty.

Piscos for the house.

Any chance that you can wander up to Loge seats tomorrow?

I need to look at where my seats will be.

Josh S. said...

I'll be doing my best Obi-wan impression tonight, smuggling a baby into the Ravine.

Dusty Baker said...

"This isn't the infant you're looking for." -Josh to security

Dusty Baker said...

^Not that there would be any fuckin ushers anyway.

Dusty Baker said...

Give me your coordinates for tomorrow when you have them so I can drop by if possible.

Steve Sax said...

Sorry I can't be there boys. I'm up north but not going to see Zito at Tarped-Over-Seats Field.

Steve Sax said...

Braves up on the Pirates 3-0.

Man, this interleague stuff ROCKS!

Steve Sax said...

BevMo's got this Cable Car Amber Ale, which I just picked up. Surprisingly good given the relatively cheap price; not too heavy or bitter.

Steve Sax said...

I'm looking forward to the pictures from tonight, guys. Please send them in!

A Delino said...

A Delino is fighting some kind of stomach bug. My presence tonight will be a gametime decision.

Dusty Baker said...

Cable Car Amber Ale? Sounds excellent and at the right price. But if it's not too heavy or bitter, it's nothing like me.

Dusty Baker said...

Fight it off, Delino! We don't want to see Nick Green starting in your place.

Eric Karros said...

Happy birthday DB!

karina said...

Happy Birthday Dusty! (again)

@Josh have a great time there!

and as Steve Sax, i'm so looking forward for tonight's pictures.

Happy B-Day on ESB-day!

MLB official Tweeter just said "May the force play be with you". I respect that.

Dusty Baker said...

Cheers, Mr. F!

Blogger is still working, right?

Dusty Baker said...

I believe so. *fingers crossed*

Dusty Baker said...

Headed to the cantina for awhile. Will try to pipe in from there with some masterful insight.

Dusty Baker said...

Oh, for the record:

On tha sofa, Vinny!

Dusty Baker said...

Still cracking up over this line:

"He's just a boy. Jim Tracy can no longer help him."

karen said...

Happy Birthday Dusty! Enjoy!

David said...

That was a horrible start to the game.

karina said...

@David it's not how you start, it's how you finish

NicJ said...

Happy Birthday Dusty.

It looks like your present is Nick Green in the lineup.

Yay!

karen said...

Well said, karina

Neeebs said...

EPALE Y'ALL

NicJ said...

Inge tried to field the ball but it was all slippery from all the the MSB intangibles that carroll put on it.

karen said...

Our own little MSB making waves again

NicJ said...

lame inning.

NicJ said...

Holy hell, Colorado is getting whooped by KC.

NicJ said...

SD already has two runs on CLiff Lee in the first

NicJ said...

not really making willis work very hard tonight.

MR. F said...

Finally broke up the no-hitter.

karina said...

@Nic J I'll worry about it when everyone is at his second at bat

karen said...

I'm really not loving our line-up tonite

Josh S. said...

Here. The Empire stuff is neat.

But...forgot the camera and Luke is craaaaanky.

karina said...

@Neeebs just in case if your chilena doesn't know, Cerati is out of danger and stable :)

NicJ said...

@JOsh, he must sense a disturbance in the force.

karen said...

Is that Manny's bionic arm coming out of his left sleeve?

Spanky said...

Holy Womprats 3PO, Once I saw the script to the GT John Williams score erupted in my head.

Josh S. said...

Come to think of it, Luke Skywalker was cranky all the time too.

karina said...

@Josh is Luke's first time at Dodger Stadium?

Steve Sax said...

Get out of the lineup Green, you're no good back there

Steve Sax said...

Time for career HR #13?

NicJ said...

Sax, its sad when Green is still the worst hitter in THIS lineup.

Spanky said...

I know it is ESB day but looking at the pic of Carroll on gameday reminds me of Close Encounters.

Steve Sax said...

Nope.

1-0 Detroit through three.

Mr. Customer said...

...and a lovely evening to you all.

Happy Lap-Around-The-Sun Day DB!

Steve Sax said...

Spanky, Carroll has many names here, including "Wide Eyes" and "Admiral Ackbar". He's our MSB, too.

Mr. Customer said...

What an embarrassing effort

Steve Sax said...

Shit Chad, you had a two-pitch two-out inning and now it's two men on...

Spanky said...

@ Sax. He's like a chameleon. Everytime I see him it's something new. He looked like the Na'vi one time.

MR. F said...

Except... shorter, right?

Mr. Customer said...

Time for runs.

Steve Sax said...

Man that inning ended up being a lot harder than it had to be

Spanky said...

Exactamundo!

Steve Sax said...

Padres losing 7-2 in the third to SEA

giants losing 3-0 in the third to OAK

NicJ said...

Leblanc finally turns back into a pumpkin

Mr. Customer said...

Wow, that M's/Pads game turned in a hurry

Mr. Customer said...

Take a pitch every now and then, y'all

MR. F said...

And then THAT?!?

karina said...

this is getting interesting

Spanky said...

do I see a change in the force?

NicJ said...

bases loaded for Jar Jar Binks.

i mean green.

pray for a wild pitch.

MR. F said...

Good job Reed Johnson.

MR. F said...

WHOOO!! Take one for the team!!!

Mr. Customer said...

Woot!

NicJ said...

Spanky said...

The force is strong

NicJ said...

Nick Green to DL with toe injury.

NicJ said...

damn you ellis.

Mr. Customer said...

Well, tied is better than not.

karina said...

@Mr C it's a new game :)

Spanky said...

Young padewan. Still much to learn.

Steve Sax said...

At least it us tied. I'll take it

Spanky said...

I'm still laughing at that Jar Jar reference. That was @!#$ed up.

NicJ said...

Bills finally got jackson out.

NicJ said...

WOW!!

what a catch!!

Mr. Customer said...

Nicely done

MR. F said...

Yay. Gold glove form.

Spanky said...

He looked like Meathead from Meatballs #2

Neeebs said...

@Karina 7.44

I was told that he was stable. La Chilena is following this closely.

Mr. Customer said...

Ok, that will work!

karina said...

I take this run.

MR. F said...

Yaya!

Mr. Customer said...

Goofy inning

karina said...

I'll take this run too!

Dusty Baker said...

D Train looks like it's coming off the tracks.

Spanky said...

It is all up to the Lord of the Thighs to hold the lead.

karina said...

Who's the guy with the Tigers hat on TV?

karina said...

Forget that, I know who they are :)

Steve Sax said...

3-1, helped out by a wild d-train! I like it!

Spanky said...

Damn. Chadley's on fire.

Steve Sax said...

Giants still trail 3-0 in the sixth

Pads down 10-4 in the fourth

karina said...

Is it me or is Yoda sitting right behind home plate?

Paul said...

Buenos Dias Amigos.

Feliz Cupleanos Dustinito! May birthdays rock!

Great tribute Sax.

Tonight we take our crown back. Tomorrow King Ely will be present.

Getting pumped about heading to the Ravine tomorrow.

Josh S. said...

I'll try to get a pic if they show it again, but they have our guys Photoshopped as different SW characters. Carroll is Yoda.

karina said...

@Josh obviously the guys behind that idea are not SoSG readers

Steve Sax said...

Yet ANOTHER missed call by Steiner, making radio fans all around think Casey's fly out was gone

Stop the madness Charley

Josh S. said...

I'll try to get a pic if they show it again, but they have our guys Photoshopped as different SW characters. Carroll is Yoda.

Jason said...

Report from Seattle: Pod Rays down 13 - 4 and it isn't as close as you might imagine from that score. The Mariners are crushing the ball which is freaking everyone out in this city.

karina said...

@Paul your birthday is next week, right? you commented it...or was Josh?

karina said...

@Neeebs i think half of the Latin American population between the ages of 20-50 is concerned about Cerati's health.

karina said...

A hit with eyes! Dodgers 4- Tigers 1

Mr. Customer said...

Death by 1000 cuts

Steve Sax said...

4-1 off an Ellis flare single. Two on, two out, dontrelle chased

karina said...

I'm watching the Tigers broadcast and they just did a nice collage of Sandy Koufax. Now, Vin is on camera.

I feel warm and fuzzy.

Paul said...

@Karina

yes big day is next week for me.

@Mr. C

did you pretend you were Penny when you devoured the msbs?

NicJ said...

why is steve nash singing GBA?

karina said...

Quick: Jay Leno or Conan O' Brien?

Paul said...

@Karina

I am watching the Tigers broadcast. They do a good job. Much better than the NL West homers especially the Rockies and Dbacks.

NicJ said...

Jay Leno sucks.

karina said...

Would someone please tell me why it is interesting that Brad Thomas is on the Dodger Stadium mound?

Spanky said...

I'll go with CoCo only because I hate ChinChin

NicJ said...

@karina, vin just said the first MLB game Thomas ever saw was when Gibson hit the HR at Dodger stadium in the world series.

Paul said...

A free James!

Mr. Customer said...

@Paul

No, but I developed an irrational dislike of Larry Bowa for a brief moment. It passed.

Steve Sax said...

Pads down 15-4 in the fifth; Giants still losing too. We gotta hold in here.

Chad has five Ks, one run through seven full

Mr. Customer said...

Conan by a mile

karina said...

@Paul i know the date because you said it and stuck on my mind because it's a day before my mom's birthday. I didn't know whose birthday it is, but I was sure Josh and you said you were both Gemini.

Also, I'm watching the Tigers broadcast, with the Fox Sports Mexico narrators.

@NicJ and Spanky you mean Conan, right. So it's gonna be Conan, thank you very much.

Paul said...

I am sure you didn't share the msbs with Ali Milano.

Paul said...

Wow these are fox sports mexico broadcasters? They sound like Detroit guys!

Mr. Customer said...

@Paul

Not that I wouldn't have...

NicJ said...

Wow, Leblanc's ERA went up almost two runs tonight.

NicJ said...

haha, Leylands pissed.

Paul said...

Going the other way Johnson!

Spanky said...

My B-Day is in a week and a half. Gemeni's rock like DIO, just like everyone in the SOSG familia. @ Karina, Conan!

Paul said...

Is that Nic Green or the guy who played shaggy on the scooby doo movie? Not the actual shaggy (Jeff W.)

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Hey, we're winning! What a change of pace!

karina said...

@Paul I'm watching Fox Sports Latin America and they are using the Tigers broadcast. Last season I was able to change language but I'm not allowed to do that this season, that's how I've been missing Vinny.

By the way, when they said Latin America is more "Mexico-Argentina" than Latin America, just as ESPN says it's "the worldwide leader in sports"

Paul said...

@Mr. C

I haven't seen Ali's fingers if she is missing some fingers we know she tried to share with Penny.

Spanky said...

The guy from Serial Mom Ha Ha

A Delino said...

I lost the good fight. Can't even keep salad down.

Hope someone else there wore a Wato mask and got in a scuffle with anyone dressed like Bib Fortuna.

Paul said...

Crap I wanted insurance.

A Delino said...

You're all clear kid. Now let's blow this thing and go home

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

I really love that line by Martin.

"You gotta run through me, and you ain't doin' it."

Spanky said...

Jedi Loney is not

Paul said...

@Delino

did you have a bad ewok burger?

Paul said...

Jonathan the Hut! Close this baby down bubba

NicJ said...

the slider fooled ellis too.

A Delino said...

Nice work there.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Ah yes. Brandon Inge. He of the zero homers in the Derby.

NicJ said...

man this ump is squeezing brox.

A Delino said...

"which of these buttons calls your parents to pick you up"

Spanky said...

Delino must have ate that slop Yoda made.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

There's nothing greater than Triumph, Delino. One of the things that made Conan great.

Paul said...

Your all clear kid now let's blow this thing and go home!!

Mr. Customer said...

Looks like I'll be watching a 1st place club tomorrow!

A Delino said...

@ PAul = my stomach's been not unlike the Sarlacc Pit

NicJ said...

tied for first place!!

pending NL west losses.

A Delino said...

Which Ewok song will they play for the victory?

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

WW

Paul said...

I love L.A.!!!

Sunday squad wins on Friday!

Elymania in the red.

NicJ said...

Cliff Lee 6.1IP 7 ER. yuck

karina said...

This win was beautiful, between the unlikely B lineup, awesome Bills performance and bullpen, they won over an AL team...just great!

Spanky said...

Off to the left: Annakin Skywalker. In the middle: Yoda. To the right:Obi-Wan. Cue the Ewoks singing the numb-nuts song. My bad that was Jedi.

Steve Sax said...

Dodgers could be in first place by the time we finish our next round of Dungeons and Dragons! Holy icosahedrons!

Steve Sax said...

Giants in the top of the ninth down 6-1: Zito melted down as usual when facing his former team.

Padres down 15-8 in the middle of the seventh, so they only have six outs left with which to play (in Seattle).

Paul said...

Time to celebrate with a beer in a hoth glass!

I would put it in one of my empire strikes back burger king glasses but that would seem weird and i don't want to break those or ingest lead.

Spanky said...

I am off to watch "Empire" . May the force be with you all.

MR. F said...

Dodger game ends with a W. ESB begins!

Steve Sax said...

(Hopefully First-Place) Post-Game Thread Up!
