Clayton Kershaw (3-2, 3.55) vs. Kevin Correia (4-3, 4.35).
Last time we had a Kershaw-Correia matchup — five days ago — the results were spectcular. In Kershaw's start before that, the results were pretty spectacular too. Before that? Not so spectacular. What we'd love today is another strong start to prevent the Dodgers' first series loss in their last five tries. We'd also like to get another winning streak started. Oh, and while we're at it, we'd like a pony. Pretty please?

No Manny again? Good Lord.
Vincent D'onofrio is on the Padres?
Joe Torre and Jessica Alba are, too.
What is Next Abe Vigoda in Center?
Purchased my Dodger tix for sat. Sec 46 row e and a cheap hotel via priceline. I will almost pay more in parking costs than for the tickets and hotel.
Blogger going to work? Chances are about as grim as an Ortiz start.
Just in case Blogger implodes again, I threw together a backup game thread on Wordpress. (You have to sign up with them to post.)
Feel free to use it, or don't.
Ick. Threaded replies.
Actually I like threaded replies.
Done and done, Josh.
Oh, wait, I guess you don't have to sign up to post. Nevermind.
I guess threaded replies are OK, but it's hard for me to follow the flow of the game that way. (See TBLA's game threads, for example.)
You have moderated comments turned on, J.
Up to "K" on project iPod reload. I went threw John Williams and Journey and Johnny cash and then was distracted listening to superman before I crashed out last night.
@Paul
So now you're on Kool Moe Dee?
Or would that be filed under "D"...
Yeah, I'm trying to figure out how to turn off moderation and keep comments from getting emailed to me.
In other words, Blogger better work tonight.
The Blogger Bug is pissing me off as well. It's really annoying. And since at least one of our readers is senior at Google, I've got him on the case.
In the meantime, thanks for soldiering through this. I was never crazy about the blogger commenting interface--I really wish they numbered individual comments rather than just a time/date stamp--but these bugs make it very difficult to tolerate the whole package.
I liked the old Toaster the best. Threaded replies are a bit difficult for me to follow multiple conversations at once (not like tangents ever happen here).
The Toaster only lives on in our hearts =X.
I turned off threaded comments and moderation.
I don't want to step on the Sons' toes. I just thought Twitter kind of sucked as a refuge last night.
On second thought, I agree re threaded replies. Unless we could just categorize separate threads into:
Star Wars tangents
Simpsons tangents
English Kings tangents
Neeebs' mother
Soccer/football tangents
Token Optimism
Beastie Boys tangents
Inane shit Dusty says that makes him giggle to himself
And so forth.
I want a t shirt tha says I am a blogger refugee
Can you imagine if our only means of communication during games were Twitter?
140 characters or fewer to capture our rage or ecstasy or horrible puns.
@Dusty - I take that as a challenge, re: twitter.
wordpress is way better for mobile viewing.
Man, that is a pretty, uh, not good lineup for the pads.
Clayton should have a good game.
@MLASF:
Hopefully not the pun part.
Just be glad saltalamacchia isn't a dodger
(re: character limits, that is)
@Sax
That statement had at least two contexts. I agree with it in both.
For tonight's game thread, all posts will be 140 characters or less.
* fewer
you can never set a limit on character for a SOSG gamethread.
Now lets booze it up.
Screw grammar. Screw it right in the face.
Don't disrespect grammar like that in front of us. Blasphemy!
Heading out again to DS, hopefully tonites game is faster-super pooped after last nights game.
What is grammar? A miserable little pile of secrets! But enough talk! Have at you!
Change of plans anyone want our tickets? Field level section 47 row B
Can't tonight. Thanks, though, Betsy.
@Betsy - If I could I would.
Go Blue!
Bummer, i'll try to give more notice next time.
Sax, I see you felt the need to correct MLASF's use of fewer vs less. We should be fewer concerned about pointing out grammar mistakes and more concerned about getting Orel his pony.
@EK
Note that I used it correctly above, thus sparing myself from Sax's admonishment.
DB - yes, but in the same sentence you used two 'or' clauses instead of separating the first two items with a comma.
Let's go Kershaw! Beat those lousy Pods! #Dodgers
Fewer filling! Tastes better!
@EK
Don't make me come over there! That was just my intended narrative style, like Kerouac on bennies and a typewriter.
Chris Meyers filling in for the pregame show?!
DOUCHE!!
only took meyers one segment to mention football.
Jocelyn Pierce > Jeanne Zelasko
Anyone see the epic new world cup nike ad?
Kobe cameo at the 2 minute mark.
Here
Psycho's mic was left up and there was an audible "Really?!" after the segment with the weird Taiwanese singer kid.
Random question. Is Princess Leia a princess because Amidala was a former queen?
MLASF's reaction was worth a little extra pedantry.
Her adoptive mom was also a queen, but that wasn't covered in Sith.
@MR. F
Presumably not, since having an alias would be less effective if one kept the royal title.
I'm more concerned whether it is a continuity error when Luke asks Leia about her mother in ROTJ. Are we to assume she is referring to Bel's wife? That is a bit misleading, given the context.
Hm yeah. I guess Alderaan has a royal family and she's the adopted princess. Makes enough sense.
In RoTJ, I imagine it's a continuity error. I mostly think it's some force-induced vision she had.
Is Blogger down?
So far, so nothing.
I'm still seeing new comments, so I'm cautiously optimistic
Did Vin just say that Fall (the season) was about ten days ago?
Way to be optimistic Mr C. Karina would be proud!
Yes. Good work.
Oh man, the "Do you remember your mother?" debate. The way it's scripted, with Luke saying "your REAL mother", creates the hypothesis that Leia knew she was adopted and has memories of her birth mother. If that's the case, Lucas screwed up in RotS.
To make Sith jive with Jedi, one has to interpret the scene as Leia remembering her adoptive mother who also died when she was very young. (Using only what happens in the films as canon.)
And of course, if one does that, the scene loses its poignancy.
I'm proud of Mr. C! way to go!
I really need the Mets-Nats game ends soon, after that game I'll get to watch the Dodgers game on TV
Yeah, until the prequels came along, I just assumed Leia was at least partially raised by their birth mother, hence Luke's sadness in the scene.
1-0!
We have more runs than our opponents!
Whew, now that karina is here, I can go back to my grouchy self!
@Josh S
Yeah, it's not provably incorrect, just crappily strung together by Sith.
So can we declare Casey Blake's beard the official team mascot already?
Epale everyone! (btw)
MSB is a great nick!
Freakin' Venable.
but MSB couldn't be his usual annoying self.
That was fast.
Is everyone quiet or Blogger isn't working again tonight?
Blogger seems OK.
padres play the M's we play tigers.
that seems a little unfair.
I've been quiet.
scared to type after the grammar police came out?
No, just feeling tired tonight.
just like the dodger bats.
Ramon Ortiz: Momentum Killer.
Where can I get one of them "In Beard We Trust" shirts?
DFA GAARP already.
Correia is rolling now.
@Nic J i'm looking forward to those games, because of all the venezuelan players in Detroit.
I know they won't hit anything against the mighty Dodgers pitching
I'm drinking! Yay, beer!!
The Pods are blistering the ball tonight.
Re: quiet time
I'm saving my strength for Saturday. Two footy matches to consume, and now going to the game. Early matches are brutal and I'm concerned that I need to limber up my liver if (ha) beer will be consumed as well.
Just noticed that DB used my spelling of Padres. Tip o' the cap.
Mr.C,
Playing in Madrid on Saturday?
Oh, and Floyd Landis is a punk.
@rb
Don't I wish.
Soccer-Soccer-Live Baseballmis the schedule.
@Mr C when i started reading your last comment, i thought you were going to play a couple of soccer games :)
@ Free rbnlaw I got mine @ lfp.com. More than reasonable price and super fast shipping :D
Bollocks! That was a total swing...
clayton looked so mad about that check swing he almost said "darn"
got the makeup call on the high slider though.
Hey, a freakin strike out.
@rb/karina
Sorry, unclear wording. The only limb getting a workout will be my drinkin' arm.
Venezuelans don't have anything against Dodgers pitching.
@Mr C are you a righty or a lefty?
Kershaw's thrown a reasonable 81 pitches in 5 innings.
Correia's thrown 51 in 4.
Thanks, Betsy.
I need to replace my Juanpierrewood shirt.
Mr. C,
I played soccer last week, and my hammies are still sore. I was brilliant, though. Raced a much younger person to the corner whilst on defense. Arrived at the same time.
I then rested.
I honestly have no clue what Mr. C is talking about.
@karina
Switch hitter, if necessary.
Mad props to Minotaur for muscling out of the fifth inning after two on, none out
dodgers hitting the ball hard, right at padres.
I'm with you, Mr. F. This soccer talk is gibberish to me.
How's Blogger holding up?
@Karina, Mr.C
I did too
JMart take us to the promised land!! Totally diggin the beard on everyone tonight...makes me almost wish i could grow one.
everytime i see Nick Green in the dugout i think to myself who the hell is that?
Lame
@MR.F
I get that a lot.
Translation - There are two European Soccer matches that I was planning to watch Saturday. One at seven and one at eleven. I am now going to Dodger Stadium to view baseball live and in person.
Sports overload will doubtless ensue.
@Mr C there's no such a thing as "sports overload"
Either that or I have a problem
Betsy, you need to Photoshop a picture of a beard onto a picture of yourself and make that your avatar.
Anyone else going tomorrow night?
@RB
Love your Pod Rays comment the other day so decided to adopt it.
@Mr C
What is the other football match I'm forgetting?
@Karen & karina
If I did play two in a row, I would probably die of exhaustion minutes into the second match.
Nekkid eye said runner was safe but replay shows he could have easily been called out.
Remarkable, astonishing, effort by Carroll. Let's all applaud him.
clayton with another pickoff
Impressive.
In the Blogger insanity last night, did anyone make a reference to the fact that two people named Ramon really stank it up for us? Mrs Dusty in law just derisively referred to them as The Ramones.
@Rbnlaw 8:31 pm that's called "moment of greatness". It's better to feel exhaustion than not feeling tired and lacking greatness.
@dusty
Bluebirds/B'pool!
For the motherland!
@Dusty Baker that's a great nickname!
Let's get it started in here! #Kemp
Okay. Stay in business people!
@ Mr C
Duh! Of course, Bluebirds. See how discombobulated I am?
Mercifully have the day off tomorrow to rejuvenate.
@dusty
When they pitched, I wanted to be sedated.
Pardon me if this has been asked and answered, Rb, but how does one pronounce Rbnlaw?
In my head, it comes out Robin Law, but I suppose it could also be Ribbon Law or Arby-in-law.
Almost Ardiendo with 0 outs! Beard Mode will get it done.
There we go!
In my head, I say "ar-bin-law"
@Josh
"Arby-in-law" is how I saw it, like I was related by marriage to some roast beef with horsey sauce.
ill take a take here as long as it gets a runner in.
No K
DP here i meant
New Avi!!!
Mr. C,
Go Bluebirds!
Sheeit
crap, strike out and now SMHGA is up.
Beard has failed =/.
Beard didn't fail. This was part of his long term plan that we'll see unfold later on.
GAARP kinda did something sort of!
i guess thats what i get for doubting GA's ability to make an out.
Ok, that's a prime "I'll take it" situation.
What does SMHGA stand for?
Anderson RBI, Loney is at 2nd!
GAARP not completely useless. Just mostly.
Yay. GAARP gets a run-in. All while still hurting his OPS.
walking dewitt to get to an MSB?
dangerous
@DB,
Damn I hate drawn out, convoluted plots.
GAARP's worst crime today:
Breaking up the Casey Blake DeWitt batting order.
shake my head, garret anderson.
its usually what i do when he comes up to bat.
what did i say. dont mess with an MSB.
AN MSB OF OUR VERY OWN!
I knew that was gonna backfire.
Non-sarcastic praise for Jamey!
Admiral Ackbar avoids the trap!
Yippee-aye-yay mini sirloin burgers!
Yippee-aye-ohh mini sirloin burgers!
I <3 Carroll and his awesomeness. Yay 4-1 rocks..
yay!! one more on the wild pitch!!
Charley just likened Jamey Carroll to Eckstein.
Is Carroll our own MSB?!?!
@Arby
I guess you don't watch LOST then!
Two out madness is bee-youtiful when it's ours
I hate the Yankees
I hate the MSBs
I hate Bond's noggin
And Sweeney 0-for-3's
--Mr C
Frisco up 7-5 in the seventh
Timmeh's line:
5 IP
5 H
5 R
5 ER
5 BB
6 SO
1 HR allowed
If I have to eat my words, at least I'm getting MSBs
I've never had an MSB. Are they still around?
Mr F said:
"Breaking up the Casey Blake DeWitt batting order."
I know! It pained me to even break the news.
@MR. F
Yeah, they're around. They're more amusing thanq delicious.
@ Mr F
Sadly, they were only there for a limited time.
They were actually very good.
Whoa, am I that far off base? I thought MSBs were done. My bad.
I hate when people say "it's surprising the Dodgers are doing well without Manny, Furcal and Ethier"
Are you getting paid to narrate the game and aren't paying attention?
While they say that, I can hear Vinny in the background.
p.s they discussed the Kemp and Rihanna earlier *sigh*
Kogi sliders > MSBs
^than
Switching to landscape iPad orientation for fat fingers
The mini burger fad is over, but no one told Eckstein and Carroll.
I'd be perfectly willing to try an MSB. Maybe if Carroll does something extraordinary.
Jmart just ate up that hanging slider.
J-MART!
MR C, you just caused a flash crash in the Nikkei with that fat finger.
@dusty
I saw them err, three weeks ago @ lincoln/SM JiTB, I think
Oh no you DIH-unt, Nic!
great piece of situational hitting by paul.
terrible situational hitting by kemp.
@Mr C
Excellent to know. I swear I thought they went the way of the McDLT.
Kemp just isn't stepping up. Maybe he thinks he'll trip and get injured if he tries to.
two backwards K's by loney.
That will teach him not to shave.
OH COME ON!
This pitcher's jersey says "Russell 55" and it's freaking Mrs Dusty out vis-a-vis Russell Martin being number 55.
Don't take my word for it. I'll have to head home that way tomorrow and document the evidence.
I might have been having flashbacks
Ump having a really bad night. Calling it poorly both ways, if that's any consolation.
well we are winning so i wont complain about bad umpiring.
Ill save that for tomorrow.
Arizona just tied it at 7 w Gnats.
Kershaw gives up a hit and stays in. this is new.
200
oh wait nevermind.
this is not new.
Standing ovation for Public Enemy Number One.
