Announcing the 19th MLB Perfect Game Winner

Wade McGilberry just did the unthinkable--pitched MLB's 19th ever perfect game.

What, you've never heard of McGilberry? Maybe it's because the MLB game was actually on MLB 2K10, the videogame:

The 23-year-old from Mobile, Ala., accomplished the feat in just an hour and a half, becoming the first to pitch a perfect game in Take-Two Interactive Software Inc.'s "Major League Baseball 2K10." He and his wife, Katy, plan to pay off their mortgage and start a family with the winnings.

"We are trying to be responsible with it. We are simple people," said Katy McGilberry, also 23.

It wasn't supposed to be that easy. In fact Wade has not been able to duplicate his feat since March 2, the day he bought the game at its midnight launch and played it after coming home from his job as a records keeper for 401(k) retirement plans.

Take-Two offered the $1 million prize to the first person to pitch a perfect game.

According to kotaku, perfect game claims were rolling in two days after the title shelved. It took 2KSports over a month to figure out who was the first, however, and award the $1M.

No news as of yet as to the teams he used to pull off this feat. I'm still guessing it was the Nationals, but it could possibly be the Orioles?

My work firewall is doing something new that is having weird effects on Blogger, one of which is the "Edit Post" button showing up for me on the main page. Don't worry, it doesn't go anywhere. I can't go back and make myself the winner of March Madness or anything.

Main page of SoSG, I mean.

FWIW, it was reported that he used the immortal Kenshin Kawakami to pitch the perfect game. Not sure who it was against.

I just read he faced the Mets.

We know it wasn't Kershaw.

He won it the very first day he bought the game. Doesn't sound like a very realistic game.

I know this will make me seem 97yrsold, but I was in Target last weekend (NOT using a scale to measure baseball cards!) and ended up watching a kid play MLB 2K10 (I almost sound cool saying that) on the demo PS3. It was incredible. The graphics and gameplay just blew me away. I saw the batter try to check his swing, then the computer catcher immediately appealed to the 1st base ump to see if the batter went around. Amazing stuff. If I ever bought one of those, I'd never leave the house.

Not a bad return at all.

@DB: I'm a fan of the MLB10 The Show franchise, rather than the MLB2K10 franchise. Go check out the reviews--if you're impressed by the latter, you may really like the former.

The "road to the show" function is incredible. You can build a player and slowly develop attributes toward your player becoming a HOFer.

Alas, our own GM seemingly can't even do that.

@Sax

What is the difference in the two? I've always been afraid to ask for fear of ridicule.

Until now *rips off mask*

Between the 2 games? They're just made by different companies. So they feel a little different, play a little different, that kinda thing. "The Show" is only available on Playstation, but historically it has been more highly rated than the 2k series.
