Post-Game 110 Thread: No Relief

BRAVES 9, DODGERS 5 (12)

Chad Billingsley went six strong, but came out with a hamstring issue. Usual reliables Hong-Chih Kuo and Jonathan Broxton allowed the tying runs, and Ramon Troncoso and Scott Elbert gave up the losing runs. A Casey Blake three-run home run in the fifth inning went to waste, and apparently some yahoo ran on the field. See you tomorrow.

I'm off to go shoot some beer bottle empties on the back porch and blow off some steam.

such a great magical season has been steadily turned bad. The Reds have a miracle win on a night Linc is pitching and we fail to capitalize on a game we were winning in the 9th.

went 0-5 with 3 K's... I guess I gotta hate on someone though the bullpenn (or Torre) is to blame.

wasn't our bullpen supposed to be the strong suit after the sherrill pickup?

so much for that idea of having that strong bullpen to bail us out of short starting pitching outings.

If Torre goes to Sherrill in the 7th instead of going to Kuo on back-to-back nights, then this would have been a win. All the mistakes after that one are irrelevant.

Kyle Baker said...

Yep, Josh. Magnified by the fact that Kuo wasn't warmed up and ready.

Good thing Manny was replaced by Juan's gold glove. We didn't need manny much after that anyways

Whoa! There's an alternate version of that Norm's commercial where the couple waiting for the other guy to order are DEAD?!

re Norm's

And, ironically, their logo is "Where Life Happens."

Bills just said it was his left hamstring - opposite of the one it was in ATL.

Bills sounds a little broken. He's having a rough couple months.

It's kinda tough to finger Torre on this one. How would he know Bills couldn't pitch the 7th until he told him during the warmup?

Kershaw: Question mark still. Who will show up?

Bills: Possible hammy issue likely to be worse than the previous cramping issue.

Wolf: Staff ace?

Kuroda: See Kershaw above.

[Fifth Starter]: ???

I really need some positive news before I go to bed...

Dusty - J-Mac looked really good.

I would even drink some of that Don Ramon tequila right now I'm so down.

Thanks, MLASF. You are correct. Young Mc freaking rocked. It was like he did some Freaky Friday thing in the hallway with Koufax.

it's been pretty awkward lately having the best record in the majors. finally been surpassed. Yanks own it now. not that it matters, just saying

I think its a little unfair to call Kershaw a question mark. He has been our most dominate starter for the past month and a half. One bad start shouldnt shake your faith, ill expect a win out of him tomorrow.

Bills injury is the most worrying, just a coule of hours ago we were worrying about having to fill the fifth spot in our rotation and now we might have to fill another one.

If Jmac can pitch like that i would love to see him get another start, thats a big if though. Im not sure what they are going to do about elberts spot now. They could push his start back to monday but i think a kid making his first career start in SF to kick off a three game series might be setting him up for failure.

Well, at least the east coast sports machine will consider that all is right with the world.

NicJ said...

I will settle for best in the NL, best in the majors means nothing. Just ask last years angels.

Kershaw is on balance much better than a question mark. I'm just assessing the here and now. He has been great, then he had a bad start. Which is my point that it will depend which Kershaw shows up tomorrow night - the Kershaw of the last month +, or the Kershaw of his last start. I have faith, and I'll be out to check the scene in person.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Kershaw has progressed incredibly, but that one outing really looms large. His age really puts his performance up in the air. At least Weaver will be available.

JuanLove said...

hopefully he neagtes all those lefty's, and chipper doesnt play

NicJ said...

weavers been a little wobbly since the allstar break.

It's one game guys, chill.

Dusty Baker- Wolf has never been, is not, and will never be an ace, or the the "ace" of the staff he's on. At his best, he's (sometimes) solid but mostly unspectacular, or a # 3.

Mr. LA Sports Fan - Weaver should not be counted on for anything. When rosters expand I expect him to only pitch when we're up by 10 or losing by 10.

Greg Zakwin said...

Nic j- Love your pic. I plan on using it one day soon.

Kyle Baker said...

KK-

I think you misread my Wolf take. It was, um, tongue in cheek for the most part. As solid as Wolf has been - wins or no wins - he's still of course not the staff ace. And if he were to be, that would be saying something, too.

sarcasm does not show well in print.

We need an emoticon that rolls its eyes.

Greg Zakwin said...

Dusty Baker- Sorry, didn't pick up the sarcasm. As Nic j said, let's blame the internet.

Nic j- I've seen that at other sites.
