Post-Game 120 Thread: We Can Beat Your #5 Starter

DODGERS 7, CARDINALS 3

This is one of those games you love to see in person (as I did): the Dodgers open up a big lead early; unlikely bats spring forth (Russell Martin goes 2-for-4 with an RBI, raising his average to .263); unlikely starters do fine (Juan Pierre, subbing for a flu-ridden Matt Kemp in centerfield, goes 1-for-5 with a screaming double into the left-center gap and plates later); starters with lingering questions perform admirably (Chad Billingsley goes six innings with 2 ER and 1 RBI, putting to rest doubts about his hamstring injury); and closers seal the deal (Jonathan Broxton goes 1.1 innings and mows down Matt Holliday to earn the save). Heck, even James Loney legged out a Martin double to score from first on a balls-out head-first slide that narrowly evaded the tag. Cardinals starter Mitchell Boggs goes 4.0 IP with 5 ER to take the loss.

Big win for the Dodgers, who face Adam Wainwright in tomorrow's sold-out Matt Kemp Bobblehead Night rubber match. Let's get ready to rumble!

(Sorry this is posting so late; traffic out of the Stadium was brutal!)

Chad was awesome. Only had 77 pitches when he was pulled

Word on the pre-game was Kemp had "a touch of the flu." Could this preempt his appearance on his bobblehead night?

Had a great time at the game. One complaint; concession lines on the reserve level blow like the Santa Anas in October. Would it kill management to open a few more stands?

How about another drink express?

On the bright side, the Shortstop is still the coolest and El Compadre has great food.

Rbnlaw, sorry I missed you! Glad you made the game though...

Is it officially a sell out tomorrow?

Sorry to hear about your Lot K blues. I tried to park in Lot F but was chased out to B on the other side of the park. Good thing. We got out in record time, even after waiting to see the final out.

Why did Bills only pitch 6 innings if he was under 80 pitches?

Ken said...

you think it was bad tonight, wait until the traffic for the bobblehead night!

bills wasnt gonna pitch past the sixth, as torre prolly didnt want him to exert himself on his return to the rotation.

see y'all tomorrow night! i will be in mannywood once again

Wow, 7-0 at the stadium. Nice work Sax.

@LL, I'm telling you, the Dodgers should pay me to attend.

Or at least pay for my beer.

I'm at the Yard tonight. Will be @ Shortstop pre-game.

Rockin' an old Brooklyn cap for those scoring at home.

@Sax or both. At least when they are on a rough patch.

I'm a Lot 4 man all the way. I've almost never had problems getting out of there. The one exception was Bobblebeard night.

@DB:
Don't you love the Shortstop? Cheap PBR, Dodger fans everywhere, so dark you can't see your hand in front of your face.

El Compadre across the street ain't bad either for a quick pre-game meal.

One tip: If you have the urge to buy a Shortstop T-shirt, ask if they have a selection of colors. I got a light blue one but would've preferred black or a darker color. If anyone picks up am XL in a dark color, shoot me an e-mail; I'll arrange a trade.

@rb

You had me at cheap PBR!

Thx for the tip on the t-shirt action.

You guys have me convinced I need to make the pilgrimage to the Shortstop, so I will stop by on Friday before the game.

About the SS: Parking is tough, but worth it. Cool music on the Juke as well.

Paul said...

Thanks for the heads up on the parking rbn.

I hope I have good parking karma on that day.

Erin said...

I'll be there tonight, field level, third base side. Getting there extra early so I can be sure to get a bobblehead.

Kyle Baker said...

Where IS the best parking for SS?

Heh - don't tell me in the stadium and a walk down!

rbnlaw said...

@DB:
Naw, park along the street above the SS or across Sunset and beat the cars while crossing. If you're lucky, you can get one of the 5 spots in their lot like I did. Otherwise, park up the hill on Quintero and hike down.

Another tip: Portia goes through to Scott, so you don't have to go all the way back to Echo Park BL. to get to Scott, to get to Stadium Way, to get to Elysian Park, to the gate.
