Clayton Kershaw (8-7, 2.91) vs. Adam Wainwright (14-7, 2.62).
COMMENTS: The Dodgers came tantalizingly close to beating St. Louis' ace on Monday; after beating up on their #5 starter yesterday, can they continue the rally and beat the Redbirds' second-aciest pitcher for the series win? A lot will have to go right for that to happen: Kershaw will have to shut down the likes of Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday, and the Dodger bats will have to stop leaving so many men on base. Yes, it'll take a lot of talent and a little luck — so don't buy any lottery tickets today, because the Dodgers need all the luck you can spare!

Don't tell me what to do.
SoSG Alex Cora will be at the game tonight, going for the Kemp bobblehead!
Let's whoop these [Kentucky state birds]!
Actually the Card**** is the state bird of seven different states, my research shows. What gives? Is it that badass of a bird? Multiple states shouldn't have the same state bird. This is an incredibly important issue of our time.
Off to the game!
Ill Be at the game tonight!!
Lets go Blue!!
The cardinal is sort of a state bird whore.
looks like we signed vincente padilla to a minor league deal.
correction vicente padilla
Is the Woodpecker a state bird?
is vicente going to be around long enough to aqquire a nickname, besides asshole.
I guess he is worth a shot for the price we are getting him at.
Better than Arroyo or Harang.
Padilla kinda is amphibian looking....
Orel: Your lotto ticket reveals that only one line is a quickpick. Therefore, the other lines have numbers that were specifically chosen. I will need to do an analysis of those numbers to determine how this relates to you.
I'll be back.
And, Hong was right.
Padilla looks a bit like Greedo.
I like Kemp in the 2-hole.
Kemp is playing?
I hope your talking about the lineup fanerman.
Line-ups I saw on Dodger Thoughts (quoting StolenMonkey86):
Per the Daily News:
CARDINALS
Ryan SS
Lugo 2B
Pujols 1B
Holliday LF
Ludwick RF
Derosa 3B
Molina C
Rasmus CF
Wainwright P
DODGERS
Furcal SS
Kemp CF
Ethier RF
Ramirez LF
Blake 3B
Loney 1B
Martin C
Hudson 2B
Kershaw P
Any double entendres were... intentional o_0.
Kemp 2nd
YES!
i would love to see the offense rough up a good starting pitcher. we battled against lincecum and carpenter, but i want to rock wainwright early tonight.
Take SOSG's advice today, but make sure to buy a Mega Millions ticket tomorrow. It's up to $207 million.
Reporting from the game for probably the only time, since my battery is low. The sellout crowd makes for a playoff-like atmosphere. People are very excited tonight.
The camera guy got a shot of a Matt Kemp bobblehead and then the girl who owned it accidentally knocked it over and broke its left arm. Hope that's not a bad sign.
Maybe breaking the arm it's the baseball equivalent of "break a leg"
Vin loves Holliday. He can't stop talking about that palm-tree homer.
A single, followed by a wild pitch. No outs. Let's cross fingers.
Excellent, KKershaw!
Mr. LASF: that's a great avatar.
Thank you, Karina. I was inspired by yesterday's thread.
I realized!. Looks many of us are at the stadium.
Lots o people here. Have my radio on and listening to vin. Life's good.
I know he is on the other team but how can you boo pujols. He seems like such a nice guy. That said I hope he strikes out.
@Alex Cora watching a baseball game at the stadium, listening to the radio, it's utter perfection.
Damn Pujols is too good.
Phew!
A perfect game for Wainwright
Wainwright is throwing a no hitter. JINX!
hi everybody, been a while since I could join a game thread. Pitcher's duels are fun, especially when we win
Wait, AC, you're here? Where?
Trivia Q: Gibson, Underwear and Carp?
I found my Think Blue rally towel in a box of stuff i was digging in earlier
Kershaw pitch count is starting to look ugly.
keep those pitches down, CK
Rally towel magic. I still have mine from game 3 of the nlds and game 3 of nlcs. And old one from the Lima win against these birds. I should bring it out now we need some luck.
i think that's where I got mine!
seems to be working better for the Cards though :/
jeez Clayton, you are putting us through the wringer too!
Is there anything more frustrating than watching kershaw walk a 6'7 pitcher?
please no wild pitches, Clayton and Russ
Watching Kershaw give up more runs.
there is no excuse for that. walking the opposing pitcher is unacceptable in my book
crapshit
Your are right MLSF.
Lugo is a bum
I think vinny is getting bored.
put him away for chrissakes!
yeesh that was sad
maybe it was the swine flu....
The hook for Kershaw. J-Mart is in. I'll have to cross fingers again.
When was the last time mcdonald pitched these frustrating games are starting to mush together.
Man this could get ugly.
Paul, breathe...
This does not feel good.
Rancho Ardiendo for Holliday. I'm getting a headache.
yikes who's gonna get hit for us?
And exhale.
Go Bison!
ooh almost on the trivia!
Can we get a hit now please.
Vicente Padilla looks like the love spawn of Bobby Abreu and Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords
It's ridiculous Wainwright is throwing a perfect game so far, of course.
like the Dodger bats, my internet is barely working. Unlike the Dodger bats, I am giving up and going to bed. I expect some good at bats going forward, some walks followed by sharp hits leading to runs. So when I get up in the middle of the night to check the score, I see that we'll have won 5-2
This may top the Cole hamels complete game as the worst live game I've seen this year.
Four innings and the only thing we have in the linescore is an error.
This is frustrating.
Pujols just got J-Macked! Wow.
So perhaps a team with high aspirations would find the intestinal fortitude to pick up a gutty performance?
Is it bad that I hear...maybe a hitter for McDonald, and I hope it is Vicente Padilla?
A HIT!
Why does Juan Pierre ever swing at a 2-0 pitch?
Finally!
@Erin: if you're still reading this GT, I believe AC's seats are on the moon.
And thanks for posting your dates. I'll be there Sun Aug 23rd, field level, if you can meet.
Come on raffy get on and let's get Matt up.
Sac to advance runner to second doesn't help much when we're down by two, JP
Cone on Raffy, prove the doubters wrong
Sax - which side?
Dammit Raffy, when are you going to hit again?
We make good pitchers look great and great pitchers look unstoppable.
@Mr La sf, if you're referring to AC's seats tonight, I don't know
if you're referring to the 23rd, third base side
I was refering to the 23rd. I'll be at that game, but on the first-base side, stuck in the sun.
Do any of you get sick of this shit?
I mean we have faced 4 of the 5 or 6 best pitchers in the NL, but we have not done shit against these pitchers. It is some of the most gutless baseball I have seen in a while. We have no approach...we take hittable pitches early in the count and hack at crap late.
Hey, it's the seventh inning now! Maybe we can get >1 hit this inning!
For the people that complain about beachballs, the crowd is batting around a blowup doll.
Less than a hit? hahahahahahahaha
I'm *about* to give up this game.
"Do any of you get sick of this shit?"
It's a long season, and there are ups and downs.
At this time last year, the Dodgers were about to begin an 8-game losing streak. Things could be much better, but they could be much worse.
The shit that I'm sick of are these ridiculous mlb.tv commercials. NO. I DON'T want to go to umpiring school!!
Fanerman...I am more than a patient fan. I live on the east coast and have spent maaany o nights...albeit mostly good nights watching this team...but eventually don't we have to ask where we go against good pitching?
I hate to say it, but I agree with Andrew.
@Fanerman "It's a long season, and there are ups and downs."
I needed to listen to something like that.
0-2 before you know it for Kemp
On the other hand, mlb.tv means no "God Bless America." So there's that.
Andre brings hope!
Nice E!!
Baseball has taught me to believe in miracles. Go Dre!
Dre!!!!
Gonna swing Manny?
Anytime I get this down on the team we win. Forgive me.
CASEY!
hot damn!
Tied up baby!
BAM! It's a whole new ball game!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Optimism pays (thanks Fanerman)
There's joy in Mudville...for now.
The beard is back!!!
Down goes Wainwright, down goes Wainwright!
Ahhh when James does connect it is a pretty sight.
Two out madness!!!!!
Since i threatened to dismiss King James royal title, he's been improving!
James does have one sweet swing.
This Dodger team and this Dodger offense has given me the confidence that no game is over until the box score says so.
@Fanerman i'd hug you if i could, Way to talk, fellow Gryffindor!
Russ "the rally-killer" Martin.
New game though.
I just want to clear up that I posted my last comment BEFORE Blake hit his HR...still, let's win this game!
Sax, let's definitely meet on Sunday. I'll be on third base side of field level, too.
In other news, that seventh inning was one of the best times I've had at Dodger Stadium this season. I've seen two Andre walkoffs. Wouldn't mind another one tonight.
Thanks Karina!
Once again I agree with andrew
Damn stirrups
Damn.
Lugo just got K-OU'd.
Excellent.
Hopefully Matty K gets a chance to knock in a go ahead run.
If we can pull this out, this is the type of come from behind magic that we had earlier in the season.
We need to find that magic again.
So come on you gryphendorfs, bring on the magic.
@Erin, let's meet on the 23rd. Email me or post a comment when you get there.
@Mr LA SF, we'll ALL be in the sun on the 23rd. It's a 1.10p game. We're going to bake like a Taco Bell chalupa under a heatlamp for 3 hours. But if you're willing to make the long hard trek over to the 3rd base side, I'm up for a quick beer.
Come on Raffy, prove the doubters and haters wrong
Rox and Gnats both won
I'm in the cheap seats. Loge level, to be exact.
Bobblehead magic?
Dammit Raffy, you're batting .260 and you're 0-for-4 tonight, four ground outs.
It's mid-August, what the heck are you waiting for? We have been without a leadoff hitter for too long now.
Sax
when is raffy, Martin and loney going to show up?
Loney is coming back...
Fucking crap.
I suppose we have not figured out this whole throw it down to second schtick yet.
crap in a bucket
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Damnit! Come on guys! Broxton really hasn't been himself.
This sucks.
Martin and Broxton are driving me frickin nuts
Martin, if you're not going to bat, at least play defense well
The Giants have won, the Rockies have won and the Dodgers have just woken up from a slumber. Do they know where they are?
Man I am sick to my stomach.
Perhaps this would be an appropriate inning for Journe...err they already blew that load.
Retaliation.
Oh my god the red birds have brought in a real bobblehead! Well there he goes after one pitch.
Too bad we dont have a bench deep enough to keep Pierre for pinch running situations like this.
As good as a sacrifice.
It all rests on James Loney.
They are a much better team right now
Gods damnit.
Another game another loss. Nice going broxton, you fat piece of shit
Hey Joe, GEORGE SHERRILL.USE HIM. FACK
Another crappy throw by Martin costs us the game. Seriously, it's bad enough this guy is not coming through in the clutch but he continues to make stupid mistakes behind the plate.
I don't think this loss goes on Broxton that much. He did walk Pujols, but it was Martin's throw that let him take third.
Now this is re-god-damn-diculous.
I don't know what the question was, but Vicente Padilla was not the answer.
Kershaw was obviously not at 100% as was Kemp on his BBH night. Still, when our pitching limits a potent offense to 3 measly runs, it should hold up. It may not be time to panic, but this team is scrapping.
Thank Gawd the Cubbies are coming to town. Sounds like tonic to me.
Hey DB,
If you see this, hope the tips helped for a cool trip to the Shortstop and then on to the stadium.
Sorry about the crappy result there. My only tip regarding that is for FJL: quit taking the fastball down the middle for strike 2. That freaking pitch could have won the game. Someone check to see if Victor Martinez can be kidnapped.
Blech.
More later. Riding home in the backseat listening to post-game.
To repeat: blech.
@rb
Thanks for advice. I think I may go back when SS opens tomorrow morning!
i'm not blaming the slump on manny completely. it's been everybody.
but we're paying him how much?
c;mon manny, be a superstar.
that damn option for next year is making me sick
Post-Game Thread is up. MFPGT, indeed.
This "lull the Rockies and Giants into a false sense of security, then thwomp everyone in September" strategy is working FLAWLESSLY.
Mwahahaha!!!
