Randy Wolf (6-6, 3.43) vs. Yusmeiro Petit (2-6, 5.87).
COMMENTS: Dodger fans have been on quite a roller coaster of late and things have gone more downhill most of this month. But today, they turn it around.
The Dodgers turn the ball over to Wolf, who has pitched more innings than anyone else on staff. He's going against a little guy (some call him Petit) who was pounced on in his last start vs. the Nationals. A win today would give the Dodgers a .500 roadtrip record before they come home for a tough series against the NL Central-leading Cardinals.
Let's go, Dodgers!

Come on, lads! We used AZ to turn around the season last year, and we can use them as a springboard today. Get the job done for Hiro!
Just changed my sidebar vote, FYI. Can't say I became more optimistic.
Wait, that's in stark contrast to what I just posted above.
I'm so conflicted! *slaps self* "Good god, man, calm down."
Dusty, you're talking to yourself again.
It's what I've been reduced to these lat few days of heartbreak.
This is a must-win game today. The Dodgers can't lose any more ground on the Rox, and they especially can't get swept by the D-Backs.
Giants lead 1-0 after 4-and-a-half.
FLA 7, COL 1, top 4 (game 1)
NYM 2, SF 1, top 7
Word on the street is that Kemp is leading off today.
Rockies are losing. My house clean. I was able to sleep in and I have my coffee to clear cobwebs from last nights 3 hour beer infested argument with a Yankee fan. I am ready for the dodgers to give Randy wolf run support for the second game in a row!!
Kemp, CF
Hudson, 2B
Ethier, RF
Manny, LF
Blake, 3B
Loney, 1B
Martin, C
Castro, SS
Wolf, P
FLA 7, COL 1, bot 6 (game 1)
SF 2, NYM 2, bot 8
Right now, the only thing worse than the Dodger bullpen is the Met bullpen.
This just in: Zambrano to start for the Cubbies next Saturday vs. the Dodgers. The news just keeps getting better and better.
Go Fish!
Also, Castro giving Forkal the day off. Me likey.
Mets win!
Vin says Kuroda is back in the clubhouse!
Torre's a genius (today)!
Bison leadoff double! And good baserunning!
That's a pretty good leadoff hit.
Can we end the game on that note? Just say we won on the day?
Vin says Kuroda called his wife while being loaded into the ambulance. "Honey, you may see something on TV...."
O-Dog single!
Hiroki wants to take his next start? That guy is nuts. I like it.
Respect for Kuroda...climbing.
Victorino probably thinks he's a robot.
Hey, I like THIS team.
DRE!!!!
Where was this shit yesterday!!!
Andre the Giant wallops Petit!
Torre: "I might stick with this lineup."
Man, can't we EVER have guys on for Manny?
I wake up and see Matt Kemp just hit a double. Then O-Dawg hits a single. Then Ethier hits a home run. Yes!
Manny, you suck!
Kidding.
Morning, Fanerman!
Wolf is going to get to the mound and not know what to dobwith himself.
"you mean I already get three runs?"
This is good. Everybody's making contact.
Petit is throwing out meat. It's only a matter of course that we break it open.
You can go back to sleep now, fanerman.
Big first inning! Feels like old times!
Jesus, even Loney can hit this guy.
Loney joins the hit parade.
Loney? This is a new day indeed.
Even loney gets a hit!
Loney's back(ish)!
Okay hopefully this doesn't screw up wolf
Blogger died for a second there.
@Josh: "Man, can't we EVER have guys on for Manny?"
Nice.
BISON SHOW!
I attribute our success thus far today to the fact that Mrs. Dusty brought home Mini Sirloin Burgers for lunch. Despite being bombarded with the ads for around 5 months now, I hadn't tried them until today. Good lil burgers (the kind Lil Matt would like!), and clearly turned some good mojo our way!
Bison looking fresh.
Blogger has been dodgy lately.
Bison roams free.
Wolf does not look good.
Sometimes Blogger gives me a "conflicting edits" error after I've typed in a masterfully insightful comment, and the comment is lost forever. Is this what happened to you, MLASF?
Wolf's pitching with a lead.
bX-o65q48!!!!!
What the hell is that?
@MLASF:
Agree. The D-backs are hitting the ball hard, even the bunts.
Wolf is often shaky early then rights the ship. Hope that is the case today (the second part of that, I mean).
Giants lost; Rockies getting shelled 9-3 in the first game of a doubleheader. And, we're tracking toward 27 runs.
I LIKE IT!!!
The jinx is in from Vin.
I was afraid good Petit showed up today. It's true the Nats smashed him, but he was lights out in his two previous starts, including a no hitter that extended into the 8th at Pittsburg (you could argue it could have been a quality start against any other teman in the league, but still)
Use the force wolf!
1-2-3-4 inning for Wolf. 3-0 after one frame
I've been getting some kind of error page.
@ RB
"bX-o65q48"
I keep getting that same thing. What gives, Blogger? There is important shit to be liveblogged.
When Blogger acts up like this, and I've typed a particularly incisive comment (yeah right), I'll quickly copy it to my clipboard before posting. Just in case the bX-o65q48 monster raises its head.
Vin:
"Wolf leads the Dodgers in home runs given up with 18."
Then Reynolds K's. Should've said that last night when Broxton was pitching even though it would make no sense.
Looks like we've got a full house today on the GT. 64 comments through 1: let's keep it up.
Man, it is hot out here where I am.
BTW, anyone eaten at 25 degrees, the bar/restaurant at the Roosevelt Hotel? I gotta say, Burger #3 + Guinness Milkshake = Good Times.
Joe Beimel, doing mop-up duty (!), just gave up a RBI single to Cody Ross. 10-3 Florida.
Dodgers score early and it disrupts the whole Internet
@Orel "great minds think alike" (though my comments are hardly incisive)
I've been getting that error message too, guys. But if you yell really loud at your computer, it usually relents and just posts the comment.
Even Juan Castro is making contact.
Obviously Blogger has something against masterfully insightful comments about baseball games being played in Arizona.
Sax, don't they frown on yelling at your iPhone at the Roosevelt?
"Guinness Milkshake"
I am intrigued.
Whoa whoa whoa...I almost missed the "Guinness milkshake" comment. I didn't know such a wonderful concoction existed.
Even Wolf makes contact.
Even Wolf makes contact.
I like this kid hitting lead-off. He should go far.
I'm telling you, Guinness milkshake. Stroke of genius.
@Orel, so long as I'm not yelling at them, they're cool with me yelling
Bison looks hungry. Petit is throwing lamb chops.
Guinness milkshake?
We ain't got fancy shit like that in OC. Oh wait, they just opened a 25 Degrees in HB.
The only problem with the burger + milkshake play is the fact that it's settling in my stomach.
Suddenly...getting...sleepy (read comment as if you're Adam West as Batman at the end of a "cliffhanger" episode)
rbnlaw, just sent you an email, just as Kemp gets rung up on a checkswing.
Some said milkshake? Guiness?? I am buying.
That's okay, Bison. Stay aggressive.
Sax, quickly, use your Indigestion Remover Spray.
Sax said:
"Suddenly...getting...sleepy (read comment as if you're Adam West as Batman at the end of a "cliffhanger" episode)"
The funny (sad?) thing is, that's the way I was reading it before needing to be told.
I thought my last comment was particularly insightful.
Sax doesn't lie. The 25 Degrees really does serve a Guinness milkshake.
Ryal still feels bad; hits a nubber.
A Guinness milkshake sounds much better than a Budweiser milkshake; therefore, I am going to get a plain Budweiser from my fridge.
I guess one might say that a Guinness milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.
The Nissan Cube would sell better if they filled it with giant rodents.
HB has the GMS.
@Sax,
Which burger did you get? #1 looks outstanding. And, returned the e-mail.
Nein nein nein!
Oh yes yes yes!
You guys are so good at sticking songs in my head!
Orel wants to see Inglourious Basterds, I take it.
The Arizona channel has shown me that cartoon characters can even sell personal injury attorneys and make it look fun.
Think wolf can bean Matt Williams all the way up in the press box?
O-Dog's gotta stop doing that jacknife thing. It's not fooling anyone.
Dre keeps it going. This must be a contract year.
Bee-Eye-Pee tickess. Make i' eazy.
Manny seems like he is pressing again.
@MLASF: "Orel wants to see Inglourious Basterds, I take it."
Actually, not really. I wouldn't mind seeing it, but I'm not dying to.
@MLASF:
Belee it
Manny will get his before the day is done.
Rockies lose!
The Beard needs to heat up a bit.
Way to go Fish!
Oh boy baseball tips from Matt Williams
Naturally, I forgot that Etheir signed a one-year deal to avoid arbitration, worth $3.1 mil.
I think, after career highs in HR's and RBI, he's going to get a slight raise for the next few years.
Just got off the phone with my father-in-law. Whole conversation went like this:
Jorge: curse word curse curse curse *&^%#%* curse Broxton fat curse word curse (*&%^ pinhead hate closer *(&^%$^&* curse curse curse. Ok, talk to you later.
Bee-Eye-Pee tickess has de ticket to everyting dat happen en LA.
So, I checked those tickets and a good thing. They're for Tuesday.
1. I would've looked pretty foolish showing up on Monday with tickets for Tuesday.
2. I get to see Bills return to the mound.
@DB:
You have to love "family time."
STEAL OF A DEAL
Thurs vs. Cardinals, 7:10PM
Dodgers.com/steal
PROMO CODE: 76GAS
DB, does your F-I-L post on the Dodgers.com message boards?
@dusty
that is the exact conversatio. I have with my dad every night. Except he adds f$&@); giants!
@rb
Yeah, it was a very touching moment, bringing the family ever closer. I have a feeling he had been ranting all night, then decided to call, and is still ranting as we speak, so that I kinda just got a peek at his stream of conscious Broxton rage.
Ugh. Have to go to a 5 y-o birthday party with no TV and no beer.
Got to power another Bud before I leave.
Wolf solid so far.
@ Orel
Nope, he's not into what us kiddos call "technology." Although he calls me several times a day to look up info for him on the internets (e.g., who was that pitcher in 1967 who blah blah blah).
No TV and no beer make Rbn go....
That's funny, DB. Must be good bonding time for you two.
@ Paul
I guess it's universal.
Even Russ can hit this guy!
Almost go time at Casa de RBN. Bud #2 in the tank.
@Orel:
. . .nucking futs!
Wolf Power!!!
Petit sucks!
WOLF! Awwwwoooooo!!! (<== That's a howl)
WOLF HR!!!
beware of the force! Wolf 2 RBI HR!
Bison + Wolf = a menagerie of runs
Wolf: You want to pitch me down and in.
Petit: I'm going to pitch you down and in.
Wolf: This one's going out.
Petit: This one's going out.
@Karina: "beware of the force!"
Very nice! I approve!
Two home runs, both not from Manny.
Russ better start cranking out some bombs. The pitching staff Is catching up to him. 2-3
Not gonna get him!
@RBN
I feel your pain, brother. Can you put a Bud in a go cup and at least get 3 in before the kiddie pool gig?
O-POWER!
Cover me, going for Bud #3.
No GMS's in sight.
O-Dog leaves the yard!!
A dog joins the zoo!
Yep, the MSBs turned this thing around!!!
Now this is the kind of two out madness I can get used too.
@DB
I might. The party is at the Anaheim Community Center. They'll never know.
I feel comfortabl with this. I will now spend my time creating a transcript of Manny's VIP Tickets commercial.
Is Ohman in the dugout? Sis-in-law thinks she saw him.
@MLASF
. . .I mean, Mannnnywood.
Ohman has been at the spring training facility rehabbing in AZ so it might be him. He is supposed to start a rehab assignment soon.
Let's play the game no one mentions they have to save runs for other games, in order to avoid a jinx.
@rb
I like the way Manny was supposed to pause in that commercial, but he just keeps reading and says the "I mean Mannywood" line. It's so poorly delivered but I still like it, even though I'm a Stub Hub man, myself.
Ah, that makes sense, Nic. Thx.
@Orel "Very nice! I approve!"
glad you like it :)
Vinny, why do you know that Beltre never wore a cup at 3rd base when he played for LA?
Parra: you're not allowed to hit anything today, even with a 7-run difference. You broke my heart yesterday, so you should suck for the rest of the game.
If Beltre had put a batting helmet down his pants, he'd be fine.
Typed it, he struck out (as long as he doesn't do it often in the winter)
I'm baaack. Hi, my name ees Manny Ramirez. I luv LA, I luv de beesh, the fan, Hollywoo', wait, I mean Mannywoo'. Bee-Eye-Pee Tickess haz de ticke' to everyting dat happen een LA. Com to see me, Manny, een som da best seet in da house. Bee-Eye-Pee Tickess, make i' eezy. Bee-Eye-Pee Tickess haz been 'part o' de communidy fo' 28 yeerz, da onlee ticke' brocker dat I wood yooz. Beleev it.
That made my day, MLASF!
Wolf is rollin'.
5 in a row for Wolf! He's howlin'!
COL 1, FLA 0, bot 1
KKKKKKKK
Wolf is cruising.
And only at 62 pitches.
QUIT HITTING IT TO PEOPLE RUSSELL.
Damn, Russell robbed by J.D.'s brother.
Col and Fla already playing again? Wow. They didn't wait long to get that second one under way.
MLB website current headline:
"D-backs have reeling Dodgers in their sights"
Down 7-0 - just where we want 'em!
Wolf is a one-man wrecking machine!
Mets' David Wright DL'd.
Wolf takes it off the leg. Doesn't even flinch.
@DB "Mets' David Wright DL'd."
Makes total sense. Pointless to trot him out there when their season is essentially over.
COL up 3-0 early.
Yeah, makes sense w/ D Wright. I know the injuries aren't exactly the same, but wonder if we'll follow suit with Hiro? We need him more than Mets need Wright (given your point re Mets being out of it), but obviously his future health is the most important thing.
Chase Field piping in NKOTB. They deserve to lose.
Torre has already said he'll skip Kuroda's next start. Maybe they'll skip his next two and put him on the DL?
I should also pt out re Kuroda that his mental situation is important, too. Coming off this kind of hit, pitchers often struggle with fear afterward (as anyone would). nd some just aren't the same (Ishii).
So we'll essentially have 3 SPs and ?? for the next few weeks. Colletti, you watching?
Manny 0-4. Thought he as out of that slump, but I dunno...
@Orel "Chase Field piping in NKOTB. They deserve to lose."
The Dodgers have Nickelback. Maybe that's the reason they haven't performed very well lately.
@ karina
Yeah, but we've got Snoop, too. That should equal out Nickleback.
Russell Martin-
I'll stop posting derogatory things about you if you jack one out here w bases loaded.*
*For today.
Son Martin, you break my heart.
Strikes out on three pitches.
Yup that's Russ
Alright, Russ. I'll hold up my side of the deal:
What the fuck is wrong with you, man? Jesus shit. Get it together already. Your hitting is now a big liability going into the heat of the pennant drive. Now I have to hear my father-in-law ranting about your hitting in addition to the usual Broxton rant.
@Dusty Baker point there.
KKKKKKKKKK
Wolf: 83 pitches, 10 K, 2 RBI HR. WOW!
Wolf at 83 pitches through seven.
The poster who said this early on was eerily prescient; a real genius:
"Wolf is often shaky early then rights the ship."
"You talk about 'cry wolf,' Wolf is making 'em cry in Arizona." —Vin
Rox up 4-0 in their second game
Very nice, DB.
I went to sleep when it was 3-0. what did I miss to make it 7-0?
I'm going to out on a limb and say that Wolf is the Player of the Game (that's Man of the Match for you folks following in the UK).
Wolf with his third hit and third RBI!
Randy almost hit for a cycle?
What the hell is going on?
Wolf & O-Dog each with two-run HRs.
The Force is strong on this one (at least in this game)
