Post-Game 65 Thread: A Bison Walks Off

DODGERS 5, A's 4 (10)

  • Clayton Kershaw got off to a shaky start, but recovered to throw 105 pitches over 5 2/3 innings.
  • Nomar Garciaparra made a pinch-hit appearance in the sixth inning. "Probably 75% cheers" for Nomar by the Dodger Stadium crowd, according to SoSG reader-in-attendance Nic j.
  • Nice moment: In the seventh, 31-year-old rookie Mitch Jones got his first major-league at-bat (oddly announced as such by the Dodger Stadium P.A. announcer). The crowd was totally into it — maybe because of this column* (via Diamond)? Sadly, Jones struck out on a Michael Wuertz changeup.
  • Ramon Troncoso finally became human, giving up four runs on two homers in the eighth. But Cory Wade, Jonathan Broxton and Guillermo Mota picked him up.
  • Casey Blake had two clutch RBIs, one in the sixth and one in the eighth.
  • Dodgers are now a season-high 21 games over .500 and 4-3 in interleague play this season.
  • Hero of the game? See above.

*Probably not — it's a year old.

As soon as bison hit that single I turned, pointed straight at that A's fan and pumped my fist. It felt great. Those guys were out of the stadium so fast one forgot his A's hat and someone threw it over the balcony, classless I know but funny as hell

Fist pump Kirk Gibson style, of course?

Of course. I even limped a little.

i was at the game too, i wanted to cheer for nomar when he came up, but the situation made it a little bit harder. the boos were pretty loud, i wish we could have given him a better ovation.

We really need to get Kemp, Hudson and Blake in the All Star game. I can't believe Soriano is way ahead of Kemp. The team with the best record in the Majors need opening spots on that game.

Watching Kemp celebrate after that hit was great! I loved the way he tried to fake out his teammates like a running back! Nice picture of Frank congratulating Kemp too.

". . .and Guillermo Mota picked him up."
Ask me a month ago who in the pen should be optioned or given his outright release, and I'm saying Mota.
In the past few weeks, the guy has been filthy. Even with Tron's stumble, this is the best pen going right now. The starters are getting dialed in, and the hitting is coming around. Should be a fun summer.

Tron wasn't nearly as bad as it looked. Giambi went Vlad Guerrero on that pitch he hit for the home run. It was a good 4 inches off the outside corner.
