Game 77 Thread: June 29 vs. Rockies, 7p

MANNYWATCH: 3 GAMES
DODGERS' RECORD WITHOUT MANNY: 27-20

Randy Wolf (3-3, 3.64) vs. Ubaldo Jimenez (6-7, 3.83).

COMMENTS:

Greetings, Dodger fans.

Remember me? I was top dog in the Dodger dugout four years ago, but Paul DePo basically gave me the heave-ho. I know he's history, but that whole situation still chaps my buns. Managing the Pirates was no cakewalk either, but now I'm back in the NL West, baby! And we're hotter than Satan's BBQ. We've won 20 of our last 23. You've lost four of your last five. Mo's on our side! Oh, and we miss Manny by one day. Jim Tracy's revenge on the Dodgers was a long time coming, but it'll be sweet. Enjoy eating our oysters!

Sincerely,
Jim Tracy

I'll be there again tonight, for my third game in a row. The Dodgers need to win, if only because it's my birthday. Come on!!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Happy B-Day, Erin!

Orel said...

Happy birthday, Erin! What better place to celebrate than Dodger Stadium?

MR.F said...

Would I have had a better time believing Jim Tracy made up that quote if it featured a trademark JT question-and-answer? I think I would.

Josh S. said...

Win it for Erin, boys!

The Rockies need to be reminded that they're the Rockies.

karina said...

Happy birthday again, Erin!

and for the Rockies...blue gnome is back! let's see if it brings some mojo...

Orel said...

Karina trying to start a new superstition. I like it!

MR.F said...

Happy Bday Erin!

StolenMonkey86 said...

Is today your birthday? Apparently it is. Are we going to wish you a happy birthday? Of course.

So, if we bring in a left handed pitcher to face Todd Helton, does Tracy pinch hit with Paul Phillips? We can only hope.

QuadSevens said...

Happy birthday Erin! And to anyone who doesn't know what a Rocky Mountain Oyster is, check out these links.

Feliz cumple anos, senorita Erin.

Bring us a win tonight.

Unknown said...

Jim Tracy can thank, primarily, two guys for this team's success. Brad Hawpe, who is better than Matt Holliday despite the hype and the reconstituted corpse of Todd Helton who seems to have remembered back when he was one of the best players in baseball.

Erin said...

Thanks everyone! And thanks so much for the email, Karina! Today I officially enter the last year of my 20s. Yikes.

Anyway, not sure how much in-game commenting I'll be doing (forgot to charge the phone), but if anything big happens, I'll come over and give you the first-hand account.

Go Dodgers!

Steve Sax said...

Happy Birthday, Erin!

Love, SoSG Sax

rbnlaw said...

Happy birfday, Erin. I remember being 29.

No I don't.

Pray for mojo.

Erin said...

I'm at the stadium now. Christine just said, "what colors are the Rockies?" I said, "purple and black," then watched as she looked down and grimaced.

I can't believe I didn't notice she left the house wearing a purple shirt. Well, more lavender, but still.

Steve Sax said...

Erin, all the more reason for Christine to go buy some Dodger Blue shirts.

I bet she looks great in blue!

Lineup:

Pierre LF
Furcal SS
Hudson 2B
Blake 3B
Loney 1B
Martin C
Ethier RF
Kemp CF
Wolf P

Giants up 4-0 in the 7th. Bleh.

NicJ said...

ugh, Lincecum is totally dominating the Cards. We need a win tonight.

NicJ said...

9-0 giants, we really need a win tonight.

MR.F said...

Dodger Thoughts has the line-up as:

Juan Pierre, LF
Rafael Furcal, SS
Orlando Hudson, 2B
Casey Blake, 3B
Andre Ethier, RF
Matt Kemp, CF
James Loney, 1B
Russell Martin, C
Randy Wolf, P

Kemp and Ethier hitting higher than Loney and Martin.

Unknown said...

Flop Martin and Furcal and I will be much happier.

Unknown said...

1 more thing. Matt Kemp is the best overall offensive player on the Dodgers right now. Hence, he should hit third.

MR.F said...

According to "The Book: Playing The Percentages In Baseball", the best offensive player should hit either 2nd or 4th.

Unknown said...

fanerman - We should leave aside the sabermetrics, as Torre is way too old school to go with that. Third is the traditional place for the best hitter and makes sense for a guy with Kemp's varied skills.

Unknown said...

BTW, the Gints are beating the tar out of the Cards, so no help there.

Unknown said...

I'm liking this so far. When I see Wolf throw a 68 MPH curve and follow up with a 91 MPH fastball, I am a happy man.

Unknown said...

Wow, only a 7 pitch AB from Helton. That is a good limit

NicJ said...

down goes the brawny man, nice easy inning.
I like.

PS Happy B-day Erin.

MR.F said...

If you're talking about where Torre should have Kemp hit, it probably should be 2nd or 4th. Who the manager is ought to be irrelevant. If you're talking about where Torre would actually bat Kemp, it's still not going to be 3rd anytime soon, so that's a moot point.

But it's not a huge deal. As long as he's moving up.

karina said...

Orel, you know me too well.

I'm watching the game on TV. Shame i'm not getting Vinny.

NicJ said...

bad bunt.

karina said...

Kemp's career numbers against Jimenez:

8-18, HR, HBP, so maybe Torre is putting him 6th so he can drive more runs.

karina said...

I also have the impression the Dodgers do well against Jimenez when he pitches at Dodger Stadium, anyone has the numbers?

NicJ said...

i dont like this umps zone.

Unknown said...

2 things: O-Chien needs a day off and we are dead if Jimenez' command is as on as it was in those last 2 ABs.

NicJ said...

wolf is on tonight, now lets get some hits.

Unknown said...

Wolf is nasty tonight.

The Dodgers have the second best OPS of any team against Ubaldo, ad .890. Even better at Chavez Ravine, where the OPS against is 1.163

Nic - The Ump's zone was fine with the Blake AB. Jimenez just made three insane pitches.

Unknown said...

Ubaldo is getting sick movement. This guy is something special. I would love to see him in the rotation between Bills and Kershaw.

Josh S. said...

Sorry about the misleading lineup. Site I got it from either had it wrong or it got updated at the last minute.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

That's it, guys. Just lull Jimenez into a false sense of security.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Wolf is on tonight.

NicJ said...

the whole team gets embarrassed there. haha

Erin said...

Okay, did the guys forget how many outs there were?

NicJ said...

they even fooled me.

karina said...

The numbers are with us, Erin's birthday and she's in the stadium, this game is winnable.

Alireza, thanks for looking up the numbers.

Erin said...

Fooled me, too, and I'm 100 feet from Casey Blake.

Unknown said...

Wolf is seriously nasty when he is on. It is no wonder he Ks a lot of guys despite his average velocity. I just love that super slow curve he throws.

NicJ said...

manny got a base hit.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

If Martin's gonna get out, he might as well take some pitches.

Unknown said...

MLSF - I actually like Martin's AB. It was an inside fastball in the zone and he pulled it well. He needs to swing more.

Too bad they broke up Randy's perfect game.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Wolf's in trouble.

Unknown said...

Come on Randy. You should have gotten Helton.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Way to go, Beard!

NicJ said...

nice play by blake!

Unknown said...

Lets see some 6-4-3

Unknown said...

I think we should rename him Casey Blake DeWitt with the way he is playing defense this year.

PenosCabell said...

Did Vin just say " The Old Atom-Ball"?

NicJ said...

it looks like he is throwing a whiffle ball.

Unknown said...

That last pitch was not a fastball. Gameday is lame sometimes.

Orel said...

Scoreless through three? I wasn't expecting that.

Unknown said...

Take a good, long look at Jimenez. He is basically what Steven Strasburg is going to be.

NicJ said...

hitting it hard, but right at guys.

Orel said...

"Did Vin just say 'The Old Atom-Ball'?"

"Up and atom!"

"Up and at them!"

"Up and atom!"

"Up and at them!"

PenosCabell said...

This game will be over by 9:00

PenosCabell said...

Thanks Orel. I get it. I never heard that before.

NicJ said...

another lead off hit

Orel said...

Nothing like B-list celebrities at the Dodger game.

NicJ said...

"Nothing like B-list celebrities at the Dodger game."

you are being a little generous is some of those cases.

PenosCabell said...

The celebrities are better than at a Clippers game.

Unknown said...

Hawpe is a man possessed this year.

NicJ said...

are you saying David Faustino isnt a good celebrty?! im sure if he could afford internet access right now he would give you a talking to.

NicJ said...

ouch

NicJ said...

well, that was bound to happen.

PenosCabell said...

wonderful

Unknown said...

Damn it.

Unknown said...

Randy needs to learn that his change sucks. It would be much better for him to throw that curve that breaks into the dirt to a RHB.

NicJ said...

and now a double.

Unknown said...

Like I said. Stop throwing that crap change.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Damn Spillborghs.

NicJ said...

damn raffy almost threw that one away.

Unknown said...

MLSF has a point there too. Spilborghs plays in the spirit of Jim Eisenreich almost as much as Kevin Kouzmanoff.

Unknown said...

Nic - That is why James Loney was put on this Earth. To save throws from Rafael Furcal.

Unknown said...

Bison Kemp = Bat Speed

karina said...

Kemp singles, c-mon, King James.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

A lomer (Loney homer) would be great here.

Unknown said...

Fear the Bison.

karina said...

"That is why James Loney was put on this Earth. To save throws from Rafael Furcal."

Agreed. He'll be a Gold Glove sometime on his career.

Unknown said...

I'd take a Bison steal and a Loney gapper.

Unknown said...

Karina - I agree, but for some reason UZR doesn't like him. I think he makes it look too easy for them.

NicJ said...

damn, almost doubled him up.

karina said...

It could have been a DP. Why the awesomeness of the contact of King James is only reserved for the road?

Unknown said...

Wow. If Jimenez hadn't thrown a 97 MPH fastball on the pitch before, Loney probably crushes that, because it was a hanger. Ubaldo got away with one.

Unknown said...

Russ made an adjustment there. He grounded out on that same first pitch last time.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Nice steal for Bison.

NicJ said...

phew, a bad pitch pitchout

Unknown said...

I love it. Kemp beat the pitchout.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

They're gonna IBB Martin to get to Wolf.

Unknown said...

MLSF - Here's hoping Randy shows some of his hitting chops.

Fred's Brim said...

hi everybody - sorry i'm late, i've been busy breaking my hand playing basketball

100

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

BALK!

NicJ said...

a balk!

Unknown said...

One more please.

NicJ said...

trying out your tomahawk jam, FB?

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

C'mon Wolf, take advantage.

NicJ said...

YES!

Unknown said...

Ubaldo is throwing pure cheddar tonight. I love this guy's arm.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

WOLF, YOU CRAFTY BASTARD!

karina said...

A tied game is a new game!

Fred's Brim said...

oowwooooooo!
(a wolf call)

NicJ said...

wolf wants his ND

Unknown said...

What did Randy do?

Josh S. said...

I *heart* Randy.

NicJ said...

a nice single to right.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Who wants to resurrect the Wolf Pack? Anyone?

Fred's Brim said...

haha i wish it was even remotely cool - I got caught on the bad end of a 2-1 break. my stellar defense put me on the floor while they scored and came down on my hand

Erin said...

Christine just took an elbow to the throat while trying to get that foul off Pierre's bat.

Unknown said...

Was it a trick hit or something? He did wait for the right pitch. He got an 82 MPH breaking ball in the zone. Ubaldo's best move there was probably to gas him. I'm happy that didn't happen.

BTW, Beast Mode is looking more and more like himself lately.

NicJ said...

damn, would of liked to keep the rally going while jimenez was rattled. hopefully it continues over.

karina said...

Is she all right?

Josh S. said...

Randy's gotta be brimming with confidence now. He's in his ND comfort zone!

Fred's Brim said...

i watched Fred throw that nono from the living room of my aunt and uncle in Salinas. they are giants fans

Fred's Brim said...

are you serious, james?

Erin said...

She was fine once she got her breath back. The ball ended up closer than I thought it would. I didn't even try because I thought it was landing a few rows back. It ended up
in the row behind us, I think.

Wow, Loney. How about some fundamental baseball?

NicJ said...

loney buckner.

Josh S. said...

Alright, who said Loney's gonna get a Gold Glove?

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

So much for Loney's Gold Glove.

NicJ said...

he brought the bronze one today.

Unknown said...

After all that talk about Geoffrey's fielding.

NicJ said...

eff

Josh S. said...

Frak.

Unknown said...

James needs to make up for it with a diving stop and a 3-6-3

Fred's Brim said...

christ guys, tighten it up. you got a couple of gifts last inning, dont give it right back to them

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Ugh

Unknown said...

Randy's best pitch, by far, is the curve tonight.

Orel said...

Did the ump gift us our two RBIs or did Wolf just pull off a tricky one there?

NicJ said...

alright that at least takes the sacrifice out. No WP's please.

Unknown said...

92 mph, I like that.

Josh S. said...

Orel, I don't think anything Randy did was intentional. Ubaldo just misread his hand motions and we benefited from his goof.

Unknown said...

Randy is probably done after this inning. Looks like more Belly abuse.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

That inning took a toll on Wolf. I hope he can go into the 7th.

NicJ said...

lets get some runs, maybe randy can actually get a win tonight,

Unknown said...

MLSF - The 7th is wishful thinking. I think he goes out for the 6th and they see how quickly he gets outs.

Fred's Brim said...

just catching up with the thread - happy birthday, Erin!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Hey, Erin, guess what.

You share a birthday with Rick Honeycutt.

NicJ said...

looks like Jimenez has recovered, damn.

Unknown said...

Orlando needs a day off. Badly.

Fred's Brim said...

stupid wave

NicJ said...

123 and wolf gets the ND, probably,

Fred's Brim said...

i hope he finishes the next inning - it'd be nice for him to get another good game under his belt. the last few must have been frustrating

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Wolf will get the ND. DUI-Mode is in now.

Fred's Brim said...

oh it's Belli - nevermind

cmon Belli! drinks are on me if you keep them at 2!

Fred's Brim said...

Ali was that a strike?

Fred's Brim said...

hehe mlasf, well done

Unknown said...

FB - Which pitch?

NicJ said...

belly is mowing down batters like they were the neighbors fence after a nightcap.

Unknown said...

Ease up on Belly. The reports suggest that he might have gotten stitched up by the cop in this case.

Fred's Brim said...

Ali, the one before the K pitch on the first batter

Fred's Brim said...

She dressed appropriately - thank you!

NicJ said...

2 K's for manny tonight

Fred's Brim said...

haha Nic

Ali, you are right, but that's pretty funny

Unknown said...

FB - Borderline, but leaning ball.

Unknown said...

This is true FB

Unknown said...

Fangraphs compared Ethier to Dunn today. Interesting argument, but I think Andre's contact rates go back up after Manny returns.

Unknown said...

Now THAT was a ball.

Fred's Brim said...

how is dunn doing this year compared to career averages? he seems to be doing well whenever I see Nats highlights

NicJ said...

we need to get into the rox pen.

Unknown said...

Kemp should have walked by now.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Loney provides hope.

karina said...

Now it's up to Martin.

Unknown said...

FB - Donkey projects to almost exactly his career averages this year and I wouldn't be surprised if he hits exactly 40 HR again.

NicJ said...

russ is hitting .187 in june, and then he gets a gapper. nice.

Fred's Brim said...

big cutoff by Speelborgs

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Martin keeps hope alive.

Damn Spillborghs

karina said...

Who's pinch-hitting?

Unknown said...

Beautiful hitting by Russ.

Orel said...

More two-out goodness.

Fred's Brim said...

hehe Donkey

Steve Sax said...

Men at the corners!

Vin extols Spilborgh's virtues yet again. But men are still at the corners, two away in the bottom of the seventh.

Apodaca apodaca apodaca.

NicJ said...

colorado pen is up too!

Steve Sax said...

BTW, hello everybody. Dinner, was good.

Orel said...

Atkins and Tulo sure look like they're having fun in that mound meeting.

NicJ said...

you know the rockies have gotten better because we dont hear Vin say Apodaca as much.

Steve Sax said...

0-2 to Loretta, two out, FJL just 90 feet away.

Unknown said...

Looks like Russ has his bat speed back. That was a 97 MPH fastball on the outer half of the plate.

Pinch hitting Loretta is f'ing dumb. If Tracy is smart, he will tell Iannetta to drop 3 number 1s and watch Loretta's bat swing through each one.

Steve Sax said...

wow, pretty sparse attendance tonight.

Wonder how it will be for July 2nd's Fourth of July Fireworks night (if I heard that commercial correctly).

2-2 count.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Dammit.

NicJ said...

damn,

Fred's Brim said...

rats

Unknown said...

The best to hope for with Loretta up there is for Ubaldo to get wild and walk him.

Steve Sax said...

Alireza calls it, Loretta grounds out to third, and Vin once again talks about Ryan Spilborghs.

Steve Sax said...

damn rats.

Unknown said...

Epic Fail. Mitch Jones was the guy to pinch hit there.

Fred's Brim said...

what did you have, Saxy? MSBs?

Steve Sax said...

Are the Ford Flexes all that?

Steve Sax said...

No MSBs tonight. Chicken with soy sauce and scallions, over a bed of rice with a cauliflower side.

And a Stella.

Orel said...

Jimenez looks pretty happy for a guy who's going to get a ND.

Steve Sax said...

Artois, that is.

Steve Sax said...
