SoSG reader Tim Bozzone from Hillsborough, NJ, thinks inherited runner statistics might be underrated:
Recently a lot has been talked about the Dodgers Relief Pitchers, and I thought this might interest you. I have been researching why no major stats sites have the Inherited Runners and Inherited Runners Stranded Percentage as major Relief Pitcher stats. I can find no place that shows those stats, just on ESPN.com on the specific players page, and that is without percentages. Furthermore I didn't even know what was great and what was just "okay."
So Tim went ahead and crunched the numbers himself. Here's how the Dodgers are faring:
player | IR | IS | RST | RST% |
Ramon Troncoso | 19 |

So how do the Dodger relievers stack up against the rest of the majors? Tim crunched those numbers too:

Good job and thanks, Tim! Maybe we can get the media to pay more attention to inherited runner statistics. After all, if State Farm can sponsor insurance runs, why can't some law firm sponsor the inheritance of runners?

More proof that Mota stinks this year.
That's the reason why I didn't like Joe biemel last year he would come in and let his IR score and then get his outs. I really have always thought that ERA is a misleading stat for relief pitchers. Thanks for the info!
Side note, ohman has looked alot better in his aaa appearances so let's hope his early season troubles was a case of a late start.
Okay, I'll sponsor this. Where do I sign up?

I'm interested in what you guys think of this blog
haha, dont expect to get invited to any blogger nights at dodger stadium.
i have a feeling thats why firenedcollettinow.com changed names.
I am so happy you did some research on this. I hate looking at a guy's ERA and determing his success rate just based on that. WHIP + Inherited Runners Stranded REALLY tells you how a relief guy is doing.
