Manny makes rehab start at Triple-A (Dodgers.com)
It was an uneventful four innings for Manny in his first day as an Isotope, but his return to action is giving Dodger fans even more to look forward to. With the Dodgers going ten games over .500 during his suspension, his return coupled with the improved starting pitching should give the team a nice kick going into the All-Star break — especially since it means a three-day vacation for most of the team.

This assignment has given us all something to look forward to in the paper tomorrow!
Despite the fact that the team is 23 games over .500, Plaschke felt that the most appropriate use for his column was to once again tell us how horrible we all are for being complicit in the glorification of a DRUG OFFENDER.
Hey Amy, thanks for your comment. As you know, we're big Plaschke acolytes over here.
Look for the upcoming post, and thanks for the headsup.
nice to see that Bill is still taking the professional wrestling approach to journalism.
The most flamboyant get the attention.
C'mon you guys, it's not Plaschke's fault that he's a shrewd, red-assed jerk-off. Some kid probably forgot to get him his chai latte today and it got to him.
I heart Plaschke. At times I'm actually thankful I only get the Register.
why is everyone treating this like manny is getting special treatment. I didnt see all this outrage a few weeks back when JC romero was doing his Minor League stint.
Why isnt billy demanding that Mota is kicked off the team? Maybe because that wont get him on the TV.
The Anaheim Angels just took the lead against the Rockies. It's 4-3, in the bottom of the eighth. That means Fuentes will come in to face his former team.
id like to see the rockies lose tonight.
At least Manny has gotten Plaschke off Matt Kemp
first pitch fuentes hits a Batter, im glad this guy isnt on my team.
Fuentes just struck out Atkins. Two away.
Plaschke is the new Verducci.
Clint Barmes just struck out. The Angels beat the Rockies 4-3 and put a dent into their Wild-Card hopes.
Rex Hudler is still a douche.
So much hate tonight!
Manny is definitely the most high -profile player to be suspended under this policy. JC Romero is well-known among big baseball fans, but not really known to casual fans. That might explain why there wasn't any outrage with him. The media is just catering to what they think the public is thinking.
As for me, I can't help but agree that it's pretty stupid that anyone suspended for 50 games gets to play in the minor leagues before that 50 games is over. It should be a 50-game suspension from anything remotely related to MLB. Period. The argument that he needs to get back into baseball shape holds no water with me. He was suspended for doing something wrong. He can worry about getting back into shape when that suspension is officially over.
Of course, all of this is moot, but I'm all for the argument that 50 games means 50 games.
Oh, but I do hate Bill Plaschke.
I think the 10 game rehab rule is more for the baseball organization. They would essentially be paying him for 5+ games to not play while he was rehabbing and risking the chance of rushing him and getting injured. The point of the suspension is he does not get to compete In the MLB and gets no pay for 50 games. He still isn't getting any pay for those minor league games, it doesn't count towards his stats. Manny wasn't banned from each and every aspect of baseball he was banned from a specific company, the MiLB being a totally seperate entity. Manny did break the rules and now he is paying for it in the way the rules state. So why does everyone want to change them?
Manny should be able to rehab before his time is up because it was collectively bargained that way. I am sure Plaschke gets some perk bargained by his union that probably shouldn't be, but alas, it was collectively bargained.
To quote Walter from the Big Lebowski... "This is not 'Nam, Smokey, there are f'in rules."
